I had a wonderful experience with the Forsyth Humane Society! I filled out an application online to foster months ago! I finally went and am so glad I did! Once you are approved, you can fill out your preferences and set a date a couple of days in advance to take a dog out. I loved the "Doggy Day Out" idea and had a blast! There are t-shirts you can purchase as well to wear...the idea is to get others to see the dog and ask questions in case they are interested to adopt them! I had this dog, Kingsley, for about five hours one day. We went on a long walk and then watched some TV for a while! He loved it! If you want to keep the dog overnight you can as well. They provide you with a fanny pack with some poop bags, treats, and a collapsible water bowl. Overall I had a wonderful experience and would come again! read more

I can't speak to how Forsyth Humane Society operated in the past, but my experience as someone who has both adopted from FHS and who is a frequent kitten/cat foster with them (since Fall 2022) has been a positive one. The foster team is incredibly on top of their game. Lighting-fast communication, organized, and they really keep things moving to get all of these sweet fur babies into places where they can stay safe while waiting to be adopted. When issues arise during fostering, they are quick to handle everything. I was fostering three kittens around Christmas and they all became sick after a few days. The vet team saw them immediately, got them on some medications, walked me through how to care for them step-by-step, and within a week or so they were back to their happy, adorable selves and were adopted by their forever families not long afterwards. The very first cat I fostered ended up being a foster fail. The team helped me navigate the adoption process (which was incredibly easy). I also expressed concern about the cat's eye, and they immediately got him scheduled for an appointment with the team at Oakes Animal Hospital. When they said he needed to have surgery on his eye, FHS paid for the surgery prior to me adopting him. A situation that could have been a pain in the ass to navigate was handled quickly, professionally, and with a great deal of care. When FCHS can start being a better neighbor, and community advocate for Duke's restaurant, I may give them my future business. All of the "strict towing enforced" for anyone who dares to park in any of those EMPTY spaces, particularly patrons who have parked there for YEARS to eat at Duke's, is nothing but a money-grab on behalf of FCHS. I get continual emails from FCHS asking for monetary donations, have donated in the past, and have adopted twice. The cat center was actually done as an Eagle Scout project by one of our Scouts; but, I now have to walk a country mile if Duke's (very limited) parking is full (which I will gladly do). Seems that a business who benefits from the benevolence of others in the community isn't willing to reciprocate. It's pretty infuriating as I see, again, all the EMPTY spaces that FCHS wants to charge Duke's for their patrons to utilize. I get it, it's your property and you can do with it what you will; however, just because you can doesn't mean you should. I feel the same way about future adoptions from your facility-just because I can, doesn't mean I should. read more

Amazing experience all around! We visited the Country Club Road location more than a dozen times looking for the "perfect" dog for our family. The location is beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. Every staff member and volunteer that I came into contact with was kind, compassionate, and helpful. We are head-over-heels about our new dog, Fester! We adopted him about three weeks ago. He is a happy and healthy 2 year old mixed breed that fits in great with our family. This facility is amazing how hard they work to get every animal a home! In December of 2022. I went to adopt a dog friend for a dog I already own. The person asked me what kind of dog was I looking for? I said I want the dog that has the most energy. WOW, did I get what I asked for! My puppy had been returned as he did not work out with his former owner. I named him Nitro because he is incredibly fast. He and his new friend Sarge are always into something. They have a huge yard to play in and Nitro taught Sarge how to dig holes. They sleep with me in my king size bed plus they have two more beds and a sofa. Nitro is a joy and was a perfect match!!! read more

they gave my roommate a sick kitten AND now she's paying over $2K in medicinal bills from their NEGLIGENCE - she didn't even have the cat for two months and our current vet isn't even sure he'll make it now. this is heart breaking. WHY ARE THEY GIVING ANIMALS THAT ARE SICK! He had a cold that developed into a skin infection. She went back to them and they gave her 3 month old kitten ADULT AMOUNT prescriptions that destroyed his kidneys!!! our current vet had explained that that medication is not used often for the reason i named above. i do not recommend a shelter that will give sick animals away and then kills them with medication. DISGUSTING!! DESPICABLE!! this place should be ashamed of themselves. read more

They ARE a KILL SHELTER! I took my 5 yr.old deaf cat in. He was deprived of any sensory activity that would have helped him. 5 days later they were talking about PUTTING him down. You would crawl to the back of the cage also....if...you you put in a BOX...were deaf. Couldn't SEE. No VET AVAILABLE @ all....NO volunteers!!!My beautiful 5 yr. old deaf cat...was put to sleep within a week because of their incompetence. It's really run by ANIMAL CONTROL! PLEASE....don't surrender your pet here. If your pet doesn't adapt quickly they WILL EUTHANIZE THEM!!! read more

I volenteered here this weekend and had a great time. The staff who works here does a great job and is very knowlageable. I helped with cleaning the rover van. I also got to meet sevral dogs. I wish I could have take one home with me. I look forward to their new facility opening soon. read more

Many people forget that the Humane Society is a nonprofit organization that is staffed mostly by volunteers. They do a great deal with very little. I would suggest that if you see things that you feel need improving, get involved, volunteer, and contribute. I got two cats from them 16 years ago, one an older cat, and the other a kitten. The kitten is still with us. I recently visited their two locations. Amazing progress. read more

I am so disappointed in my experience with this business. My sister had a friend that was fostering a mother cat and her kittens. I had just lost my baby so she showed me some pictures and I fell in love with a beautiful orange female kitten named Autumn. The next day I emailed the humane society and got a response from Annette. She responded with, " If you are wanting to adopt just fill out the application. When is she having surgery?" I explained that I did not have any information as she was not on their website. Annette proceeded to tell me her info and that she had to be 2 lbs to get spayed. I asked what I needed to do since she was not in their system for adoption yet and she responded with, " Send me all your information. Your address, phone number, email address and I will put a memo in her file that you are adopting her and then you will have a profile in our system." I started my communication with Annette on May 22nd. I continued to email and call to check on her. On July 12th I emailed Annette and asked about Autumn, she tells me she has been spayed and is ready for adoption. I asked her could I do anything online as I live over an hour away. She said, "we do not hold animals". I immediately reached out and asked my sister to go and adopt her for me. I emailed Annette on July 12 @ 10:43am and told her my sister would be coming to get her. My sister arrived at 4:45 and she had been adopted. Annette would not look my sister in the eye and tell her that autumn had been adopted. My sister kept asking for someone to talk to her and everyone acted like she wasn't there. When Annette was told I emailed her she said she never saw my email. Finally, Chase came out to apologize for what happened. My sister FaceTimed me and I ended up with a different kitten that I love and they waived the adoption fee. But how disappointing when you have been waiting almost two months for a kitten thinking someone would honor their word to let you know she was ready for adoption or give you the day to get there. The Forsyth Humane Society is an amazing organization! The staff is really friendly and very knowledgeable of the animals in the shelter. Considering the organization gives all the pets up-to-date shots, the price for adoption is very reasonable. Have yet to find my perfect pet, but coming back in the future to see! read more

We adopted both of our fur babies from here! They were both found abandoned as kittens at 6 weeks old. One is male and the other is female. Cosmo is the male and he is truly a character! He loves to play and has a personality like no other! Ria is our pretty girl and she is very laid back and loves to cuddle. I love that you can view animals online and also visit them in independent rooms before making a decision which may fit your needs and lifestyle best. These two have become family to us and I thank the Humane Society for this. The staff keeps the facility very clean and also very helpful to inform you of each animal's past as well. read more

I am absolutely FURIOUS with the Humane Society and FC Animal Control. ALL animals are to be licensed every year. Just received my "fees notice" and they have not updated MY ANIMAL's rabies vaccination. It appears I do NOT do right by my animals!! YOU WERE FAXED THE VACCINATION RECORD of 12/14/18 on 12/17/18, which was in advance of expiration on 12/21/18! I HANDLE my business, now do your job! It is NOT that hard to key in an update when you were provided the record via fax. I have PROOF via fax receipt showing it was received! SMH! read more

I have had a consistently bad experience with FHS. A few years ago we adopted the sweetest dog (whom we have totally spoiled). No problems with that. So when we decided to try fostering, we thought it would be the same awesome experience we had with the adoption. What a supreme let down. The foster coordinator, Blake, doesn't seem to be very concerned with ensuring that people who are willing to foster and kept in the loop during the process, and is not very communicative at all. The foster program seems to be very...mosaic. Not a very coordinated, well-planned operation. I almost felt as though I was (as a potential foster) more trouble that I was worth. Perhaps I will have a more positive experience with a different county. It's a shame, really. There are so many animals in need in Forsyth County. Maybe if as much devotion to fostering was shown as is the devotion to fund raising, things would be different. As it is, it is clear where their focus is...and where it is not. read more

Unfortunately, I've had a very bad experience with Forsyth Humane Society. At first, it seemed like a great place to adopt from, yet for me personally, it's becoming a nightmare. I adopted a dog and carefully read the paperwork that I was filling out. I had her for a total of 4 days and things were going down hill and fast. She was starting to put herself in danger, she completely destroyed the cage I got her; I could not contain her anymore. I understood that finding a trainer to help ease the situation is the way they wanted us to go, but we did not have the time for that. I mentioned to them that I would be returning her, they mentioned that the next day would be fine. As soon as I get home to get her ready to go today, I find out that she had completely destroyed the restroom. I know pits are destructive, but I was not expecting this. I knew she was doing damage, I didn't think to this point... Yet, they wanted me to get a trainer which I wouldn't have a home by the time we started calming her down... Anyways, I take her back and ask them about the adoption fee. They said they do not refund them... So I ask if they charge the next person to adopt the same dog, and they said yes. That, that is WRONG. When you sign it says that you are paying for the neutering/spaying and treatment and what not, yet I had to pay that and now someone else is going to have to? I guess this is how they're getting their money which is completely upsetting. Aside from no refund, which no where did it say we CANNOT get it back, some of the staff is unpleasant. For someone that is new to the location that just wants some information, I'd think they'd be more willing to talk and answer any questions -- turns out they don't care. I know that this is just my experience, but I would've preferred someone telling this before I signed or at least to know what to expect. I also know that the Humane Society will most likely not appreciate my commentary, but they need to know what's going on and how they are affecting us. Time is time, and money is money which no one can just get or afford to loose. I personally will never be going back, and unfortunately, they have changed my mind of considering adopting again. I hope this is helpful to those that take the time to read this, and I hope this helps change the direction which the Humane Society is taking. For now, thank you for an experience that I cannot forgive, yet I hope I forget. read more

DO NOT adopt here. "Our mission is to promote and provide for the humane treatment of cats and dogs in Forsyth County." -- this is BS! The one located off Country Club Rd ---- From the moment you adopt the animal it is your problem and they provide zero support, if you get a response at all. NO after hours support post adoption or contact information on the vet provided. We adopted a dog here and it was an unimaginably terrible experience. The dog was released and in less than 24 hours had to be taken to an emergency vet twice costing close to $1000. This was due to the dog being released with an infected spay site that fully opened up within 12 hours of leaving the shelter. She was given antibiotics, steroids, and a cone. The manager, Ian Martin, responded a few days later by pointing out that any financial burden was that of the new owner, "you signed a contract" and "if you want to return the dog now you can." He was evasive and refused to respond to the primary question as to why they discharged this dog with a potentially fatal infection with no special care instructions. He didn't ask if the dog was okay. He didn't apologize or offer any form of an explanation as to why the shelter and vet there would discharge this dog with an infected spay site. SHAMEFUL! The Director was completely non-responsive. It's disgraceful that these people are running a rescue for animals and clearly have no caring for the animals they take in. Do NOT leave your dog or cat with these people. They are safer running the streets. There's a place in Lexington called Recycled Paws and they're a true rescue. Contact them or another rescue to take in your pet if needed. Do NOT leave your animal at this so-called rescue. read more

It seems like the communication between staff isn't that great. Called about a particular dog and even though I was told the dog was available, when I arrived the dog was already adopted. This has happened twice. Checked on another dog that was listed as adoptable only to be told that he wasn't ready and to keep checking back. After days of calling and checking, I was told they decided the foster family was keeping him. If he never was available for adoption, he shouldn't have been put up as adoptable. I won't be checking back with them anymore. read more

**My Weekend Adventure -Starring The Forsyth Humane Society** I began speaking to an adoption counselor about a specific dog at 4:55 on Friday afternoon. She did the hard-sell on me, advising that this particular pup could go home TODAY and how easy it now is to adopt, as they have streamlined the adoption process into a brief counseling session. I said that I wanted this dog, so let's start the process. She then noticed the time and said, "oh, we don't begin any adoptions after 5pm, so you'll have to come back tomorrow." I looked at my watch and said "It's only 5:02, and I've been talking to you for almost 10 minutes." She wouldn't even go ask the Exec Director for permission to do this, as she was afraid to ask. I couldn't believe it. I asked her again and included a volunteer, but both were unwilling to approach the lady in charge. The counselor only offered that they would reopen at 11am and to come early, as there is sometimes a line. On the way out, I bumped into the Exec. Director and told her about the situation. She asked me which dog, as if she might make an exception. When I told her which pup, she backed off and said they would reopen at 11am. Both she and the counselor said I couldn't place a "hold" on the dog. It was only 5:15 and they didn't close, until 6:00. Whatever I thought, I'll be sure to show up early on Saturday. The next morning, I was the first in line, behind a grandmother and her granddaughter, but they had no interest in adopting anything that day. It was 10:30am, and the center opened at 11:00. Suddenly at around 10:45, the front-desk girl walked out the front door, right past us, and waved her arms at someone in a car in the parking lot. I said, "Are you guys open?" She said "No we're not, but these people {the people in the parked car} have been here waiting to begin the adoption on a dog, and I want to get it started." I asked "Which one?" and the lady from the car named the same dog I was there to adopt. NO!! Oh yes. We complained and finally the director lady came out and would do nothing more than say she was so sorry and everything was new there and this other person had already engaged with an employee about that particular dog, before we arrived. She recalled speaking to me about the dog the day before, but she had no resolution other than to say there was nothing she could do. We said soooooo... I ENGAGED with your employee and you starting prior to 5pm yesterday, but since it was 5:02, before I said the magic words, you wouldn't let me adopt or place a hold on the dog **ALL DURING OFFICIAL HOURS OF OPERATION**, but when I do as you said - show up early, get in line and wait, it's ok for someone to essentially place the dog on hold, go sit in their car, wait for the high sign from an employee, and then begin the adoption process **BEFORE OFFICIAL HOURS OF OPERATION**??? Where is your integrity? Nepotism much?? Operate by the rules you set. read more
