The staff are great. Especially the lady tonight. Wish I could recall her name. Went above to be more than helpful. Helped guide me, and find stuff or pointed me to items. Explained the sales and why there are differences with online promotions. The corporation is favoring / incentifying online transactions thus the promotions are richer there. Also accommodated me towards closing time, so so pleasant. Store is orderly and get the job done. I do like the look, feel and bit more selection at the Clemmons location. But the location at Thruway Shoping Center (Historic) iis so convenient to other businesses and activities. Ate at Chik-Fil-A just before as was so hungry. And wanted to see how that business was since it had relaunched in a newer bigger building at the same site. Back to Pet Supermarket we love shopping on the last Tuesday of the month with 10% off for either Military or Seniors. Experience always positive. Lots of choices here for pets! Tons of toys, treats and a variety of brands, including foods that are natural & grain free. They also have a rewards program which will earn you free food after so many purchases. There are products for cats, dogs, birds, fish, reptiles, hamsters, etc. You name it, they got it! I have been going to this store for a few yrs now. I am always treated politely and the sales people always come up and pet my dog and offer a treat to her. They are helpful staff. The prices are competitive and many times beat petsmart. They have a loyalty program you can join that allows special discounts by text and you get a free bag of your fave dog food when ever you buy a certain number over time. A little gem among the high dollar warehouse stores with a personal touch. read more

I went to 4 other stores and there was nothing that compared to Pet Supermarket. Ear wash galore when the 4 other stores had none. Plus the expertise and input from the employee's. This is in the Thruway Shopping center. It is a bit on the smaller side if you are comparing it to the bigger chains stores in the area like PetSmart. There always seems to be an abundance of employees working here. One day you go in and no one wants to look at you and other days the employees are nothing but friendly and helpful. The more I have visited the more I am noticing that things are quite a few dollars cheaper than other stores. Instead of paying $13.99 for bully sticks they are only a little over $9 here, the same goes for the toys. From what I have seen of the food the prices are about the same as other places. The one downside is they do not have a very large selection of all natural dog treats. I like to be able to go in and have a lot of options when it comes to treats. Overall worth the stop! read more

There are a lot of choices for chain pet stores in Winston-Salem so it is interesting to find one which is customer unfriendly. Caveat emptor. My wife bought a leash here for a dog on may 30th. Turns out the dog was adopted out sooner than we thought so she went to return the leash today (inside of 3 weeks) only to find out the store return policy is 10 days. Really? That seems very restrictive in this day and age. And no exception was made for our lack of understanding of the policy. So we got a couple of boxes of cat litter instead and will take our business elsewhere. If every pet store in town has a 10 day return policy they can all get 2 star reviews from me. read more

Not only was I profiled by an employee and embarrassed before Christmas at this store that I have been frequenting since this chain took over the pet store site, but customer service never responded to the complaint and apparently my negative review and commentary was passed on to all the rest of the employees! Imagine my surprise when an employee double charged me AND quoted my complaint to me, implying she targeted and overcharged me $40 on purpose? Be very careful of these employees! I went to the store today to purchase a bird, particularly a parakeet. The man at the register was assisting me and when I asked questions he could not answer, he asked Caleb. Caleb knew about parakeets and helped me select 2 of them that were the most tame birds. (Prior to coming to the store, I had researched is 2 parakeets better than one and the answer was 2 due to socialization.) Rather than up sale me on products, Caleb showed me different options and recommendations. Now I have 2 little birds in my office snoozing, waiting to go home to their new home. I know my daughter will be so happy to have these two as birthday presents. read more

I absolutely love this store! I have gotten a new puppy last week and needed help as I am a first time young puppy owner. Ellie was so helpful and walked me around the store showing me things my baby would need and enjoy. She was not only very up to date on her information about the products she had shown me, but she connects with her customers as if we were her best friends! I loved hearing about her journey with her dog and what lies in the future for her and her fur ones. She kept saying that my pet is their pet and it makes me feel so much better that they care more about my boy than they do the profit they make off of my purchases. It made me feel very welcomed! This store is never a pleasant experience. I have been coming here since I moved to Winston Salem and have noticed a continuing issue in each of my visits. Every time I bring my items up to the register to pay, I am hassled by the employees about the products I am buying. This has happened for everything that I buy including dog food, treats, bully sticks, and even pill pockets. My dog has a sensitive stomach and allergies and is on a special type of food and is required to take meds daily. The food he eats is vet recommended, and is one of the most well known and healthy brands of dog food available on the market. The employees always try to switch me over to THEIR form of a generic brand of whatever product I am buying. I always respond kindly by saying "thank you, but I am sticking with what my vet has prescribed." My response is ALWAYS followed by a 5 minute lecture about why my vet (a licensed medical individual that has been practicing veterinary services for over 30 years) is wrong. Dear pet supermarket--please just allow customers to come in and shop without lecturing them about why your generic brand is better than other products. If someone asks for advice, please give it to them. However, it is rude and inconsiderate for you to criticize other products when you are not asked for advice. You have lost me as a customer due to your consistent method of shaming me as a dog owner for not using the "best" (which is really your generic brand) products for my dog. I love to support local businesses, however, you are the SOLE reason that I will shop for my dog on amazon. read more

I just wanted to say how I could not believe how some stores can be so customer friendly and some are just down right unfriendly. while I was in need of a certain dog food, I found this particular store on the manufacturers website as a store that regularly carried the items I needed. I got to the store 15 minutes before closing. Yeah, you guessed it... they were unhappy. I really tried to get there in time but the hours online were different than those on the front door. I could not find what I was looking for so I went in search of an employee. After not finding one, I went to the register where I waited for 6 mins before I was finally acknowledged. I was patient up to this point but the employee could not find the item and fetched the manager. She was definitely not manager material. She told me that they did not carry the item anymore and that just because it's online does not make it so. She was also referring to the hours of the store. I just really could not believe her attitude and the fact that she did not have the patience or time to help me find something else that would be similar to what I was using. I contacted the corporate office and was told that they did carry the item and went back the next morning and purchased it. It seems that the manager just did not want to look for the item. It was closing time by the time she came to the register and even then she did NOT come to help me. I really do not think she even knew I was there by the way she acted when she saw me. read more

The live pets in this location are healthy and well maintained. The bird and small animal cages are always immaculate. I recently purchased a parakeet and I was pleased to have many excellent choices of vibrant active birds. The bird supplies are top quality and the store offers food and seed without artificial dyes and colors. The fish tanks are clean and clear. While the fish selection is smaller than some area stores, the quality of fish is beyond compare. Notable is their offering of fancy guppy pairs which always feature interesting and healthy varieties. A wide variety of dog foods and treats are available with a customer loyalty discount program. The store also partners with a local animal rescue agency and often has available cats to meet on site. A low cost vaccination service is offered on select Saturday afternoons. I'm withholding five stars because the other reviews are correct that customer service runs hot and cold. I've seen improvement in the past months but was recently checked out by a very rude salesperson. The general manager is terrific and is often present to receive feedback. read more

I have shopped at this store for the past 4+ years. The staff has always been kind and helpful, even during the renovation process. If not for my experience tonight, I would have given a high rating to this business. I called the store this evening because I thought I took 6 cans of dog food to the counter and arrived home with 4. I spoke with a clerk who was receptive and attempted to determine what had happened. In the background, however, I heard someone telling her in a rude and loud tone that I didn't have proof that I bought the dog food. When told that she was the assistant manager, I asked to speak with her. Tiffany, the assistant manager, took the phone and proceeded to raise her voice at me. When I protested, she informed me that she could loose her job if she gave me the dog food without proof. At this point, it was so NOT about the two cans of food. When I patronize a business, it is my expectation that the workers, and especially management, will behave in a professional manner. I later called back to inform Tiffany that I was writing a review on Yelp. I thanked her for letting me know that she had researched the transaction and that I had paid for four cans of food, exactly what I received. It is my hope that in the future Tiffany will adopt a more professional manner of speech when addressing patrons and fellow employees. read more
