An authentic old B&B that's kept clean and up-to-date. I selected Fort Conde because all the other hotels in downtown Mobile are priced out of the range of government per diem rates. Well, talk about a great deal. Normally B&Bs are _more_ expensive than traditional hotels. Okay, you don't get a pool here. But you get a rustic room with all the amenities - TV, fridge, kitchenette, chairs, closets, wall-mounted ductless A/C - these are way nicer than your typical hotel. Heck, my room even has a fireplace! (We are specifically told not to light fires. Makes sense.) I love that my room is cooler and drier than Alabama summer. I love that the front desk is responsive, showed me my room, answered my questions up front. There is a ready supply of water in the main building. There is free* breakfast even. * With a mandatory $3 tip, you can eat at the sister restaurant they own. I did not partake since it's just a basic breakfast and my conference offered similar. But it's there if you'd like. A very pleasant experience, good nights' sleep. I don't mind walking a few blocks for lower cost and, overall, my kind of place - quiet, isolated, where I can unwind from a long day. Would absolutely stay here again and again. read more

I took at five-night trip to New Orleans, Louisiana, Biloxi, Mississippi, and Mobile, Alabama, and I stayed at four different places, all very beautiful and unique. Out of those four places, Fort Conde Inn wins for my most comfortable, unique, and lovely stay. Fort Conde Inn is a stunning and historic property in a charming neighborhood called Fort Conde Village. This hotel consists of several old homes from the 19th century, converted into old fashioned yet luxurious rooms and suites. We stayed in The Antunez Royal Suite, and our stay was amazing. The suite had high ceilings, Persian carpets, and gorgeous furniture and drapery. The king-size bed was the most comfortable bed I slept in during my entire six-day trip. I absolutely LOVED deep whirlpool bathtub! While we did not use the fireplaces, I enjoyed having them for ambiance. The linens and towels were luxurious, and I was impressed by the fact that we were given L'Occitane bath products. The living room couch was beautiful and comfortable, as were the chairs. Attention to detail with historic style furniture and artwork captured another time in history. Our stay included vouchers for daily $3.00 breakfasts at the local restaurant, Bistro St. Emanuel. It was a lovely bacon and egg breakfast with potatoes, toast, and choice of coffee or juice. The main house also offered us a serve-yourself drink at their "honor bar," which I really enjoyed. You make your own cocktail -- I made a Jack Daniels and Coke -- and then write down your beverage and leave the slip in a jar. What a lovely touch! Forte Conde Inn is an easy walk to restaurants downtown, and we passed artistic statues and a park along the way. Hospitality was superb. I appreciated the friendliness and efficiency of the inn's staff. I have only two minor complaints that could be easily rectified by ownership: 1. The toilet paper holder is attached to the wall next to the toilet, and it is VERY far back -- I had to do a full-body twist to reach it, which was not comfortable. A standing pedestal that holds the toilet paper would be a much better choice, much easier to reach, and could look very elegant and historical. 2. The bathmat that I was given was very tiny and insufficient. It was approximately 18x24 inches. It was TINY, which was difficult for getting out of the tub and then getting over to the vanity. For having such luxurious, oversized towels, I was surprised at the insufficient and tiny bathmat. I wound up asking the staff for extra towels, so iI could use one as a bigger bathmat. Again, this could be very easily rectified by ownership --a large, oversized, fluffy bathmat seems appropriate for such a stunning boutique inn of this caliber. The Fort Conde Inn is a unique and charming boutique hotel, and I am so happy that I came across it while researching accommodations for my trip to Alabama. My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Fort Condé Inn. The property is absolutely beautiful, with very well-kept grounds that make the whole experience feel special. The staff were extremely kind and welcoming, which really stood out during my visit. One of my favorite touches was that the room had an actual key instead of a magnetic key card it gave the stay a unique, historic charm. The room was huge and beautiful. The bathroom was just as beautiful. The only complaint I would have is there is too much light coming thought the windows. Really hard to sleep, well I might be a vampire too, lol. A little too bright for me . Breakfast is offered and it is definitely something you don't want to miss. The food was fabulous, and the presentation was just as impressive. Pretty good place to stay in downtown Mobile, Alabama. The atmosphere is good. Very vintage and historical feelings to it.

Fort Conde is my go-to lodging when I'm driving across the state. The breakfast is AMAZING each and every time I go. The main house is stunning (I haven't stayed in any of the other buildings) and you can feel that you are literally steeped in history. That being said, of course, some of the comforts of a modern hotel may be lacking, due to the fact that the structure is a couple of hundred years old, and you won't find modern architectural components such as plentiful outlets. But the management of Fort Conde has a Keurig in each room, jets in the updated bathtubs, and towels and sheets so fantastic you'll go home and buy the same brand for yourself (I actually did this). Did I mention the breakfast? No matter how early you wanted to get on the road, it would be a veritable t-r-a-g-e-d-y to miss the breakfast. read more

Was recently in Mobile on some business just passing through and I decided to stay here for the night pretty worn out on the drive so my girlfriend and I decided to pop in and look for room. They didn't have any, but they did come up with something for us that was a spare room I guess on the manager docket so we stayed for the night. It wasn't bad at all. It wasn't a bad area of town I think The parking wasn't the easiest to get but overall the place was very clean. I understand it wasn't a room that was normally available more like a back up room in case there was maybe something wrong with the room and they were packed. I don't know. It didn't feel like it was a room that was utilized very often kind of smelled musty, but everybody was courteous and I was happy to have a place to stay for the night. I don't know that I'd go back here again intentionally I don't know if I would do anything in Mobile to be frankly honest, but if you must you may, if you must you may. read more

I recently booked for one night (5/28) through Booking.com and am writing to request a possible partial or full refund due to some issues we experienced. First, and not on your property, but more so Booking.com, your property is depicted as a regular hotel, not a B & B, which we did not realize until arrival obviously. Second, and again perhaps more in Booking.com, no instructions were received on how to check in once we arrived, and no one was around upon our arrival. We waited for approximately 20 minutes, when finally a young lady came to the "check in" desk. This young lady was also not full of information, however had me sign a rule form, walked us across the street to our building, handed us the keys and left. She seemed annoyed, almost as if we had disturbed her and she was welcome or friendly at all. Despite being sidelined with the property not being what we expected, we checked out the room anyway and were still not satisfied. Therefore, I went back to the check in desk to return the key and let the young lady we would not be staying. I explained that we had been under the impression due to Booking.com that the property was a hotel and we weren't comfortable with the space. The more I apologized for having to check us in for no reason and waste her time, the ruder she got with me. She had a very poor attitude, was not friendly at all and again, very unwelcoming. She also stated she "personally wouldn't even consider a refund for me" (even though I didn't even ask), but would be speaking with her manager and getting back to me later that evening. However, it has now been almost 24 hours, 2 messages sent to the property, and nothing. I would appreciate some sort of response, just out of common courtesy. 6/5/23: RESPONSE FROM PROPERTY "You will not be receiving a refund and we do not appreciate your 1 star review. The south's not too darn good on following any type of government recommendations, never have been, but setting that aside we did love this place. I came for a wedding. The lady at the front desk took us to our room and that was it. Nothing was told to us about the area, where the ice machine was, where the food or amenities were. Absolutely nothing!!! No package to greet us with the exception of a doc they were quick to ask me to sign when I checked in to tell me what they would charge me if I didn't follow certain rules. No conversation as we were walking to the room regarding the bed and breakfast or anything. It was NOT a good bed a breakfast experience. It was just a room. Nothing more at all. Truly the Mary Poppins of BnB stays - Fort Conde Inn is practically perfect in every way. In fact, if I could think of one way Fort Conde could improve I'd include it here just to construct a less sappy, gushingly glowing review, but truly, this is a southern inn dreams are made of. The style is southern chic with original wooden floors, enormous oriental rugs, period chandlers and furniture. But the modern amenities are totally luxurious with incredibly comfortable beds, linens, towels, robes, L'Occitane toiletries and deep jetted soaking tubs. Wifi is fast and free (as it should be) and Keurig coffee makers in every room. Each morning there's a cooked-to-order breakfast at a communal kitchen table from 7:30-9am - today's offerings were waffles and ice cream, omelets, french toast or a seafood benedict with crab and crawfish over asparagus and an english muffin. My bene was easily the best dish I had in Mobile, and trust me, I ate very well here, so certainly not be default. So how about this: if you only enjoy hotels with minimalist Nordic design and modern urban industrial stylings, Fort Conde isn't for you. But if you're interested in soaking up some serious southern charm and hospitality in a historic home with all of the modern amenities, book immediately. read more

This hotel is amazing, I found it on hotels.com and it's really a B&B, with all the amazing amenities you find at high end resorts. It's quaint and really warm and friendly. I can't say enough about Taylor Giles, the General Manager. He went out of his way to make my stay comfortable - helping with my late arrival and explaining how breakfast works and offering suggestions for nearby visits for food and attractions. I stayed in the Carriage House area and on the ground floor, so there were a few stairs, but it was easily accessed. I was there for business and the only slight concern was the slow wifi for working in the room, but it wasn't consistent - a couple times it was slower and the rest of the time it was fine. There were really fluffy towels, and the bathrobe was huge and the kitchen was nice to have...fridge, sink, microwave, etc. The pillows and bedding were wonderful! I think the cats stole the show and breakfast was divine. That chef is so nice and accommodating. What a lovely break from the traditionally boring hotel. THANK YOU I'll be back! read more

Just completed my fourth visit over the past two years or so. Guess what? This inn is outstanding! From the first time I checked in, Ashli has been the best hostess. I recommend the Margaret suite but have stayed in another. Clean, roomy and the bathroom is beyond roomy. The linens and towels are first class. There is so much value received at the Fort Condee Inn it almost defies belief. Breakfast included? Robbie is an excellent chef. Not cook, chef. My wife and I stayed at Fort Conde Inn for the first time December 2021. Our son is in the film industry and told us that it is a special place to stay for a unique feel in the middle of a city, kind of a hidden gem. Upon check in the staff could not have been more disinterested. We were shown to our room and that was it, no information, or interest in telling us about this very neat area of Mobile. The room was big and a bit run down but that really would not have mattered if we had felt more welcome in the Inn. Maybe we caught them on a bad night. read more

This hotel consists of several houses, and I've been only in the main building, but it is something unbelievable. Feels like they allowed you to spend a night in museum. Reminded me of Mendelssohn-Haus in Leipzig. Comfortable bed, absolutely delicious breakfast (small selection isn't a problem if everything is good), properly adjusted air conditioner, premium toiletries. And location is awesome too. While I really liked everything in this hotel, there are several things that worth mentioning: - There is no elevator in the main building (kind of expected in two hundred years old building), and luxury rooms are on the second floor, so you'll have to carry your luggage upstairs (wasn't a problem for me). They have rooms on first floor in other houses - Sarah (room #4) is a small one. It doesn't feel uncomfortable because of the 12' ceiling, but just in case - other rooms are bigger - Sink has wide border but with small angle, so if you put something on it, it may slip into the sink. Not a problem though cause they have several shelves right next to the sink - There's only one shared table in the breakfast area, but there is another room with dining table right across the corridor, and also several small tables in the backyard Oh, and my wife said bacon was too sweet, but I don't eat bacon, so I don't care :) read more

My partner and I were only here for one night, but we really enjoyed our stay. It seemed like sort of a hybrid between a hotel and a B&B. There are more rooms than a B&B and they're more standard, but oh boy are they plush. Nice furniture, nice fixtures, niiiiiiiice bed and shower. This is the kind of place you can stay at and relax. I appreciated that very much. And the inn manager was very accommodating. We were first given a room that had a non-flushing toilet. When I pointed it out to the manager, he immediately upgraded us to a King suite. Great customer service. The breakfast was alright, but in my opinion there was a little too much emphasis on quantity versus quality. For breakfast I was given a fruit cup, a biscuit, a muffin, coffee, OJ, bacon, sausage, and three giant pieces of bananas foster French toast. Entirely too much food for one person!! And the French toast was a little bland. I'm commenting on that because I was surprised given the rest of the stay. One thing to be aware of before you stay is that the inn is close to the train tracks, so if a train goes by, you WILL hear it. read more

Sam and I wanted a place to stay downtown for last night. I called Alan Waugh, and he made sure that we were taken care of very well. We stayed in The Antunez Royal Suite better known as The Honeymoon Suite. We were looking for a weekend vacation close to New Orleans. Found this place on line. Great experience. Beautifully renovated "second oldest home in Mobile." Very well appointed and (contrary to Valerie's review) well supplied. We had a K-cup coffee brewer, 2 bottles of wine, a microwave oven, a mini-fridge plus all the little bottles of shampoo, conditioner and lotion. And we were provided with copies of the Wall Street Journal and the local paper. The location is a little off the beaten path in downtown Mobile, near the interstate and the Fort, but still an easy walk to a number of restaurants and bars. And, despite being close to the interstate, the location is quiet. Alan, the manager, was very friendly and helpful as Connie points out. And the breakfast was equal to any found in New Orleans. Fresh fruit, fresh-squeezed OJ, freshly baked coffee cake and a choice of several delicious main courses. The chef (whose name I forget) was very accommodating. And very good. One nice detail of this place is that it will accept one-night stays on the weekend. All the other B&Bs in the area we found on-line required two night stays. My wife and I had a lovely time there and look forward to making a return soon. Highly recommended! read more

We booked this on short notice and they accepted us anyway. The staff was extremely helpful and very nice. The room was awesome. Soft music on the TV welcomes us as we came into the room. The hostess gave us a tour and made sure we had everything we needed. The bed was very soft and comfy. It was very hard getting my wife out of that nice jetted tub. Everything was picture perfect during the night. Then came the breakfast. Another home run by the staff. We ate with other traveling people and enjoyed getting to meet them. Stayed here for one night with my wife on our move from Rhode Island to Texas. Located very easy from the highway it is close to all the dining and activities of the city. The room we had was Very nice. Huge bedroom and sitting area. The linens were among the best i have ever seen. The towels in the bathroom were so wonderful that my wife purchased some for out new house. The area the inn is located in was very quiet and out of the way. The staff handled a booking glitch with the utmost care and professionalism. The breakfast in the morning was superb. Classy, tasty and with wonderful company. While we usually don't stay in B&Bs, I'm SO glad we decided to take advantage of Fort Conde Inn...it was just perfect! We stayed in a carriage house room and from the comfortable beds to the super fluffy towels, it was wonderful. The breakfast was just amazing (my husband's omelette was exactly the way he likes it). It was within walking distance of both the Charlotte Conde House and the Mobile Museum, both of which we enjoyed. Had an amazing time at Fort Conde Inn! I found it on Living Social and came here with the beau for a romantic southern getaway. Although it was our first time in charming Mobile, the room we stayed in was so nice we hardly saw any of the city. Alan was super friendly and helpful, which made the experience 10x better. Taylor worked with me to insure that we got checked in, and David stayed up very late to let us in. The rooms are very nice.
