We are staying 3 nights in a tent at the fort Welikit camp ground and I just had to leave a review on day 2. literally no complaints at all. Steve is SO nice, our stay is very cheap! the campground is very well maintained and clean, bathrooms and showers are very very clean, very beautiful view. Lots of room options ; tent camp, tv, tipi, wagon, cabin, camping keg! The highway wasn't an issue at all, still very quiet from the site. All and all 10/10 for this place. This place deserves 10 stars. This is some place you will want to spend more than one night at. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. They have laundry, pavilion, playground, 2 dog parks and lots of games. They can fill your propane for you. The sites are so nice and are so clean. The store even has adult beverages. It's close to so many beautiful sites that are a must see. Rushmore, CrazyHorse, Custer State Park, Bear Country USA, Mt Roosevelt, and too many to list. read more

Beautiful campground lots of space very clean met some very nice people and enjoyed our stay there for 6 days.

I stayed in the covered wagon and it's definitely for those on a budget a bit more adventurous. Brought a sleeping bag and pillow, but it's hard so I recommend bringing an air mattress to use inside. It holds up well to the rain as I got hard thunderstorms the two nights I stayed there. The wagon also shook wildly with the accompanying wind storm. Definitely worth the experience! One thing to note, is that there were lots of spiders in the wagon - small ones and daddy long legs. If you're not about the spiders, you'll want to skip this one. The campground is very quiet and the bathrooms are individual ones which is great for showering and having a bit of privacy. Highly recommend this campground. Tip: Bring sleeping bag, pillow, lamp and air mattress if staying in the covered wagon. read more

I canceled my reservation due to my camper breaking down. I followed all policy procedures when canceling and was still charged for my dates after I received the cancellation email. The campground is now refusing to reimburse me AFTER they charged my card for the full stay. I also know my spot was used during my dates as my party went on to camp. read more

Close to all the interesting things around Custer. Well run and organized business. Only negative is no noise restrictions between 8am and 10 pm - so if you get a neighbor with three barking dogs and a big Bluetooth speaker- you just have to accept it. They said they would enforce the 10 pm to 8am quiet time. read more

Spent 7 days exploring the Black Hills. Very clean and quiet Campground. Great area for the kids to play. Sites were graveled with full hookups. No issue with leveling the fifth wheel. Utilized the general store and clean laundromat, no more expensive than a convenience store. Staff resides on site and are available should something arise, very polite and accommodating. Would definitely book here again. read more

Made a reservation for 4 days apparently during sturgis week. Didn't know and didn't care. Wasn't going there for sturgis week. Anyway, I cancelled my reservation via email 7 days before my reservation. My RV had an issue and needed to go in the shop, so I had to cancel. Their cancellation policy is horrible toward the customer. I ended up paying them well over $300 for this reservation that I could not even use with them refusing any refund. I know they will turn around and book my spot now and get double paid on this spot. Had I known that I would have no showed them so they wouldn't get double paid. I called them and the man was so non-chalant about telling me "well you signed the policy". I realize that man, is what I wanted to say, but they don't care about your problem or reason for cancelling. It's all about the money to them. Go ahead and respond with "I'm sorry you don't know how to follow the cancellation policy" crap. Go ahead and treat your customers like that, good for you. However, this is the last money you will ever see from me, and I travel through SD quite often (not for sturgis). Enjoy the last money you get from me Fort I-dont-lik-it! read more

AVOID at all costs. The service staff was super rude to me after some crazy guest of theirs threatened to shoot the dog at the site next door to me and I heard the whole thing and confronted the woman about walking around threatening to shoot dogs. The campground playground was flooded with sewage and stunk so bad and we couldn't let our kids go near it. The tent site we got had no power and a stupid fire pit that wasn't big enough for any kind of a fire. Wifi was garbage at best. I'll find another spot in the Black Hills worthy of my money. read more

Great campground with big spaces and super dog friendly! WiFi was good and cell reception was great (I have Verizon). They have a dog park to unleash your pups and I seen deer everyday while we there. The only bad thing about this place is the pollen from the pine trees (it is extremely bad and covers everything in a matter of an hour -FYI we were here in late May so the pollen may not be as bad other times of the year). The HEAVY pollen covering our trailer, truck, and pretty much everything that we put outside is the main reason I'd try to stay elsewhere next time. read more

We wanted tall as the sky pine trees and that's what we got here. Camp grounds are well kept. Staff are really friendly. The location is perfect for the state park, the cute town of Custer, and Crazy horse. A little bit of a drive to Rushmore. All of our fellow campers were super friendly. We had a really great time. Very pet friendly; no runs or anything, but ample place to walk them and let them romp. Beware that spots near the 50's are close to Welikit's neighbor who has a barbed wire fence. So, those with pets, be aware because there is lots of fun wildlife on the otherside of the barbed wire which pups will like to chase (we found this out the hard way...see my review on the great vet in town.......) Stay here. The owners are really wonderful and really care about the quality of your stay :) read more

We had a pretty good stay here in the tent campground. The showers were clean with three sets of combination shower and stool and sink combos plus another shower house on Rv other side of campground. The staff was nice. The largest downfalls for us were that the tent camping spot we had on no. 87 was not level nor were several of the others. There was some road noise but the camp was pretty quiet and had pine trees for shade. There was a playground for kids and a little dog park with dig duty bags provided. The deer here are pretty tame. Great Campground. Felt like you were out of town, but were really a few minutes outside of Custer! Would visit again.

This campground is terrible, it is extremely hilly and it requires a cardio workout to go to the restroom. Speaking of restrooms, they are not the cleanest and I wouldn't count on using your own personal showers (if you have a trailer) due to the extremely poor water pressure. Don't be surprised if you can't open your trailer up all the way due to tight spaces, I said that I have a 32ft trailer and they put me in a spot for a 25ft rig. Do not get site 25!! It is completely on a hill and if you have a fire in the pit you are likely to fall in it. I would not stay here again, there are plenty of great campgrounds in the Black Hills that are much nicer. read more

Sites are within pine trees which was nice but really close together (online map very misleading). I booked a pull-through site for six days. They changed my site reservation twice after my original booking AND split it up between two sites. The owner/manager was totally rude and basically said "too bad". Said they were booked solid and couldn't accommodate a single site for 6 days. They were at full capacity one night while we were there. During the week they were at 30% capacity. Additionally, website states free WiFi which was very important for us as we were working from our camper during the week. The WiFi rarely worked. Finally, we mentioned on day two we were struggling with water pressure at our site. The manager said he'd come check it out. Never saw him. Pressure never improved. read more

Enjoyed camping here for three nights in July. The staff were friendly and the campground was in great shape. You can't beat the location as it's between Rushmore, crazy horse, Custer State Park, and Sylvan Lake. Great place. We had 2 RV's and rented a cabin. Property is beautiful. Lots of trees and space. Kids played on playground. Bathrooms clean. Laundry nice too. Easy access to Custer and right by the coolest Rock Store too where the kids panned for gems! This campground is located perfectly where it's quiet, you can hear the birds chirp, and wind through the trees. A must stay! Owner Steve is great and is always around to help and make sure our stay was good. We will be back! read more

Wonderful campground for couples and families surrounded by the beautiful pine trees and the Black Hills. Steve the owner was very friendly and very accommodating to our needs especially when we needed to extend our stay due to a spring storm. The sites were very clean and level which made for an easy set-up of our fifth wheel. The bathroom rooms and laundry facility were well cared for as well. The location of the campground is perfect for seeing all the attractions in the area. We look forward to returning to Fort Welikit next year!! read more

This campground is located in a densely wooded area of the Black Hills. We saw 2-3 deer at our camp site every night. The sites were all shaded and level. Gravel roads were in good condition. Each of 4 spacious bathrooms had a locking door with a shower, sink and toilet included. Office personnel were very friendly and helpful. There was a small camp store and plenty of information available about things to see and do. There was plenty of room to walk the dogs. The campground is very close to Crazy Horse monument (10 minute drive) and about a 30 minute or 20 mile drive from Rushmore. It was very quiet and peaceful even though we were there during a peak summer period. The campground is well maintained, family owned and well run. The advance reservation process was very professional. read more
