Firefly Dentistry has NOT been in practice for "over thirty years". Dr. Barry Baumann, my former…read moredentist, was the owner of the practice before Firefly Dentistry bought the current office. I'm sad to say that Firefly Dentistry is not a worthy successor to Dr. Baumann's legacy. I had initial misgivings when I first visited Dr. Sandberg. However, I thought it might be due to seeing a new dentist after the fact that Dr. Baumann was my dentist for so very many years. Dr. Sandberg did a few fillings, two root canals, three crowns, and routine cleanings. I felt pain in two of the crowns with root canals and kept telling him this. He said that I couldn't feel pain, "those teeth have root canals". But the pain continued. I also began to notice he wasn't as attentive, in my opinion. He seemed disinterested. Just a gut feeling, but I've learned to pay attention to gut feelings. I also wondered at a remark of his, "I really want to get a crown on that one tooth!" Then, at my final visit, I was scheduled to see Dr. Sandberg. The hygienist came in and gave my teeth a very cursory cleaning. All the while, she was talking with a new dentist. Then, to my surprise, the new dentist did my exam. I asked why Dr. Sandberg didn't perform the exam and was told "He's busy." The hygienist and dentist talked all during the exam, speaking of "all the new tricks Dr. Sandberg's bringing in, zoom whitening" and other such things. When the COVID-19 pandemic came, I decided I wasn't going back. After I got vaccinated and the restrictions were loosening a bit, I found a dentist with better recommendations. I came to find out that the crowns with root canals that have been hurting me were infected, with bone loss. I had to have them treated by an endodontist. He doesn't *think* I'll need implants. Needless to say, I'm furious. I DO NOT recommend Firefly Dentistry. Stay away!

But my last two experiences were very bad. Last time I went here I was waiting (I think over 30min?) even though I made an appt. Fine, it happens. I got in the chair they took x-rays (great!) then sent a hygienist over and she did very, very, very little. They usually use a color coded probe to measure your gumline to see how much its receded, that was not done. They also de-calcify your teeth with a scaler/ultrasonic scaler (the scrapey part no one likes) she only did it on a few front teeth. Then she opened the prophy paste to "clean" the teeth and all she did was tap my four front teeth. That's it. That's all folks. Then they RUSH RUSH RUSHED me out the door. No one was that friendly either...busy I guess? Whatever. All in all very poor experience. They sure did bill my insurance though, of course! I thought maybe a fluke, one off? So I sent my husband in with tooth pan (cracked tooth.) I made him an appointment and everything. He waited FOR AN HOUR still and they looked at it, took a x-ray and sent him on his way. To be fair he didn't have my HSA card for payment so I get that. The real problem is (besides the ridiculous wait time) when I asked him about the experience he said "I didn't feel welcome there." and "They rushed me out so quickly." and "I just didn't feel like they wanted me there." Before anyone slaps back, yes I have very healthy teeth. I still don't see this an excuse to not perform certain tasks; and I do know what I am talking about. Ordered a panoramic xray with out getting pre authorization even though I had one done the year before. After the xray expressed great concern with the blockage in my sinus. I was able to get an emergency appointment with an ENT doctor at Summit. he looked at the xray pictures i took with my phone and laughed. "I really dislike when inexperienced dentist do this! This is common in 25% of population and poses no threat what so ever." I called Delafield dentist immediately after my appointment to tell them of the doctors opinion. It was like deaf ears! Dental insurance would not cover the xray. Said it was a medical claim. Medical would not cover the $275.00 saying it was unauthorized and/or not pre-authorized. After 18 months of this with them, they sent me to collections. I have shared all the details with two of the accounts receivable team. Both were sympathetic to what happened and neither felt I should have to incur this cost. On top of that...they wanted me to book a deep cleaning for 2 teeth. I mad an appointment for it and my follow up for 6 months. Two weeks before the deep cleaning appointment I had to cancel it due to overseas travel. I received a voicemail that they would cancel it and my next scheduled cleaning. I was told for legal reasons they could not clean my teeth before the I had the deep cleaning! I called when I got back. Obviously my cleaning appointment was gone, i needed to wait another 4 months past my scheduled cleaning to get a new appointment. Then was told they WILL NOT schedule it until after the 2 tooth deep cleaning was completed. I found a new dentist! What a shame to treat a client like that. For this reason I can not recommend this dentist and practice to anyone.

I called three months in advance specifically to secure surgery during a pre-approved week off in January. I was explicitly told there was availability, with the only requirement being a pre-op appointment. I completely understand this needed pre- appt. I drove in from Chicago at 5AM for that appointment, and was told my X-rays from 12 months prior were "too old." While frustrating, I understood and agreed to repeat imaging, paying $450 that day. After the exam, I was sent to reception to pay and "schedule surgery," only to then be told I would need yet another appointment before surgery could even be scheduled -- something that was never disclosed minutes earlier in the room. After explaining that I had already made a lengthy trip and that this was not what had been communicated to me, the staff briefly conferred and suddenly said they could perform the cone beam scan that same day for an additional $350. Wanting to avoid yet another trip and finally move forward, I agreed and paid on the spot. After completing the scan, I was once again sent to reception, where I was then told they actually could not accommodate surgery during the very week they had originally promised. At that point, I had paid roughly $800 for appointments day of and scans based entirely on their assurances, only to be told they could not deliver what had been guaranteed. I remained polite, rescheduled for my next available time off (cancelling my personal VACATION) in March, and clearly explained that this would be my only window until June. I also emphasized that I am in significant pain and that the delay was severely impacting my quality of life. The response was largely dismissive. I left defeated and disappointed, but understood that things happen. I received a call last week (Feb.9th from Allie) informing me that they could not perform my surgery at all because Dr. Kimmel would be "busy." It is baffling that I was scheduled in the first place if this was the case. At this point, I politely requested copies of my receipts, X-rays, and cone beam scan so I could seek care elsewhere. The tone immediately shifted, and I was met with impatience, dismissiveness, and clear irritation simply for asking for records I had paid for. When the emailed records did not include the $350 cone beam scan, I followed up and again encountered attitude questioning why I would need it despite the fact that I personally funded it. It was eventually mailed to me on a CD. This entire experience felt disorganized, misleading, and profoundly unprofessional. My family has spent tens of thousands of dollars here over the years as uninsured, cash-paying patients, which makes this level of disregard even more disappointing. It is clear to me the dismissive communication here demonstrates a serious lack of respect for patients' time, finances, and well-being. To say I am disappointed in the level of care and professionalism would be an understatement. This is not how you treat loyal, paying patients. I hope this is a "one-off" situation for this office because Dr. Kimmel himself was incredibly kind and thorough with explaining my surgery that I unfortunately, will not be having here.

There was a short time where I had to go to a different dentist due to an insurance change. They told me I needed quite a bit of dental work. I got a second opinion at the Dentists on Bluemound was told it was not necessary. One of my daughters also had a similar experience when she moved out of the area. This is an awesome dental office. I highly recommend them!
