I can't say enough good things about Gardiners Road Animal Hospital. My family's beloved senior cat…read moredeclined very quickly to the point we thought she may be palliative. She was a brand-new patient and needed quick action. The wonderful team and Dr. Farooq accommodated her in a timely fashion, made her feel comfortable and gave her a rigorous physical examination. She was able to have an x-ray immediately, which detected that her digestive system had stopped working. After more review by a radiologist and testing, Dr. Farooq had a hunch that it may be a reversible condition despite not showing the full suite of symptoms. He was right. An additional test proved it and she improved immediately after great treatment and monitoring. He also caught a treatable painful spinal condition that we assumed was just aging. She will be more comfortable during her remaining years. My family feels fortunate we went to GRAH because the outcome could have been very different without the diagnosis. In addition to great care and diagnostics, Dr. Farooq thoroughly explained the costs and took care to limit any unnecessary costly procedures. Thank you GRAH team!

When we arrived, we signed in and the receptionist explained what was going to happen and asked me some questions. We were shown into a room where they examined my cat, Buster, and the vet discussed some options with us as to what may be wrong. One of her hypotheses ended up being right when he was later diagnosed with a fatal disease, but she gave us a few options and some treatment options as well. They did bloodwork quickly and Buster was back with me shortly thereafter. While they weren't able to help Buster in the long-term, they did help to provide me with a lot of useful information to take away and instructions for what to do should the issues get worse. I would recommend this clinic to anyone who cannot get to their regular clinic. Beware, the prices are steep but for the well being of your pet, its well worth it!

We found another vet for 1/3 of the cost and they spoke to this vet, lied and blocked the transfer. Wheb we gave the approval to proceed with the overpriced surgery they did more tests and came up with a new diagnosis. Then they went back to recommending tests and surgery. We took our dog to another vet and didn't tell them where we were going. everything resolved including surgery, 2 night stay and a month of food, for less than 4K. we spent 6k at AEC and all they did was tests. When I raised the issue of blocking the transfer the management refused to consider any wrong doing. this place is owned by Vet strategy who sets their pricing and is impossible to reach. I'm in the process of filing a formal complaint with the college of vets of Ontario

I had the worst experience this past Sunday when I took my sweet girl Sam in to be euthanized…read morebecause she was so sick with diabetes and internal complications. She stopped eating and drinking for 4 days, and she was telling me it was her time. As hard of a decision is for any pet owner to make, it should never be amplified by the indignity of being treated the way we were treated on that day. We had an appointment, but had to wait for a room for about 15 minutes in general waiting area. We were told it was to make the room "comfy", room number 3. Well for my two sons and myself, a comfy room in their terms was a small blanket on a hard cold floor and one rather uncomfortable chair. We sat on the floor with our girl Sam for 2 hrs and 15 mins before my eldest son walked out to reception to complain that no one had come in to see us yet. Looking into my dogs eyes for that duration was so painful, knowing was was coming, trying to be cheerful as she could read my every emotion. Reception was surprised we were in there and another girl was surprised no one had come in, they had forgotten about us. Another 15 mins went by before a vet Dr Jacklyn Chow entered the room to tell us this wasn't on her schedule but she will "fit us in". She didn't review my dogs chart, didn't sound compassionate at all or let us ask any questions, no apologies but moved us to another room after being in room 3 for 2.5 hours, this room was supposed to be the "grieving room" and more comfortable. Ok, maybe but still a blanket on the floor and a 2 seater couch, bright fluorescent lights and loud noises from the back door where the vet techs work. Immediately she told me she would not come into the room and would have to work from the door, with the door open if I didn't put on my mask. The last thing I wanted my dog to see was my covered face..plus she accused me of having Covid because my throat was hoarse and my nose was running, well do you think that could be contributed to me crying for 3 days about my dog, and also, my boyfriends father passed the day before, so lots of emotions going on,? No, I had cover and she wouldn't perform the procedure without me putting on my mask, otherwise it would be done with a long hose from the hallway, with loud noises, people running back and forth and bright lights, like that is supposed to put my dog to ease? or us? I put my mask on, asked her to come into the room and shut the lights off and close the door, I really should have run... taken my dog and run.. the next minutes were awful, she administered the first fluid, and I couldn't stop crying once her head laid down, she told me I had 2 - 7 minutes... 2-7 minutes for what? what did that mean? This woman showed no compassion, no empathy, no apologies.. just "go out the back door" and we will bring your dog in a bag! WTF! what type of bag? a garbage bag? that is how we felt.. I wish I had run out the door and taken my sweet baby with me..I wish I had let her die at home, where she wasn't just treated like a credit card transaction, which oh, by the way, they came in with the debit machine prior to the procedure to make me "pay up front". That was the most tasteless act of human unkindness I have ever witnessed.. Do not take your pets here.. I am haunted by the whole experience and blaming myself for not running out the door! Plus this place charges so much more money than any other vet around.. you and your pet are nothing but transactions, and they are running a heartless business!

Was going to this Vet for my dog. Many problems of price but also competence…read more 1. Went to pick up her monthly flea and tick medication and it was just handed to me as she was young without weighing her. I asked if he would like to weigh her then realized he was about to sell me the wrong dosage. No apology and I don't think even realized the problem with what he did even was. 2. Was quoted about $875 to get her spayed. Then when it was time . They tacked on A) $225 as she was just over a year old B) Hundreds more for blood test never spoken about previously before the general anesthesia. C) was informed after surgery that if she develops diarrhea to immediately bring her back. She did later on and I brought her in immediately. Over $800 more for medications and special food, stool sample, hydration. The whole time it was just her shaking off the general anesthesia. She was fine a few hours later without taking any of the medication. Realizing how taken advantage off I got I asked for the office manager to call, never did until other requests weeks later basically saying too bad. They called with the stool sample results sure enough saying she was fine the whole time. Getting her spayed cost me over $2500. I've met 2 vet technician's who worked there previously at dog parks. They said that their post surgery instructions used to be that diarrhea an be expected sometimes after surgery and give it some time before bringing them back in. Adding that they left as the culture became a "how many blood tests did you sell this month type mentality" They try and explain the multiples higher costs by saying they are the "Gold Standard" but all the visits I've had were just the vet asking me if I noticed any change. Then petted her a bit and left. $225+ per. A combination of incompetence, horrible pricing and overall lack of interest in many employees is a tough combination to find but here it is. I brought all this and more up to office manager who appeared to not worry about any of it. Didn't ask who was selling me the wrong dosage. I was shocked at the lack of management overall as well as staff. Many I'm sorry's but long after the money is in the bank. Couldn't suggest avoiding this place for any others more. For care and pricing try somewhere else.

Hang on to your wallet Not a good place for your pet especially if you don't have $$$. They are part of a consortium, apparently tied into many of the local Vets who are now, coincidentally, closed Saturdays as well as Sundays, leaving a pet owner no other choice but to go to the Kawartha Emergency Clinic. Be prepared to shell out at minimum $1000.00 since walking through the front door will cost you $185.00 for a short meeting with the Vet, if there's one available, or a technician. Thank God for the emergency services offered by Port Hope animal Hospital on Dale road who we just discovered recently. They do not mark up costs for emergency services.
