Was going to this Vet for my dog. Many problems of price but also competence. 1. Went to pick up her monthly flea and tick medication and it was just handed to me as she was young without weighing her. I asked if he would like to weigh her then realized he was about to sell me the wrong dosage. No apology and I don't think even realized the problem with what he did even was. 2. Was quoted about $875 to get her spayed. Then when it was time . They tacked on A) $225 as she was just over a year old B) Hundreds more for blood test never spoken about previously before the general anesthesia. C) was informed after surgery that if she develops diarrhea to immediately bring her back. She did later on and I brought her in immediately. Over $800 more for medications and special food, stool sample, hydration. The whole time it was just her shaking off the general anesthesia. She was fine a few hours later without taking any of the medication. Realizing how taken advantage off I got I asked for the office manager to call, never did until other requests weeks later basically saying too bad. They called with the stool sample results sure enough saying she was fine the whole time. Getting her spayed cost me over $2500. I've met 2 vet technician's who worked there previously at dog parks. They said that their post surgery instructions used to be that diarrhea an be expected sometimes after surgery and give it some time before bringing them back in. Adding that they left as the culture became a "how many blood tests did you sell this month type mentality" They try and explain the multiples higher costs by saying they are the "Gold Standard" but all the visits I've had were just the vet asking me if I noticed any change. Then petted her a bit and left. $225+ per. A combination of incompetence, horrible pricing and overall lack of interest in many employees is a tough combination to find but here it is. I brought all this and more up to office manager who appeared to not worry about any of it. Didn't ask who was selling me the wrong dosage. I was shocked at the lack of management overall as well as staff. Many I'm sorry's but long after the money is in the bank. Couldn't suggest avoiding this place for any others more. I also would not recommend this place for pocket pets. The Vet that we had was Dr. Harnett, who was incompetent and did not care for our pet. Using the stethoscope on her was the closest she got. We spent over 2&1/2 hours there, empty waiting room and maybe 10 minutes total with Vet. Completely agree with everything that Paul F. said and this was a horrible experience for us and our helpless, adorable pet Joey! I would never recommend going here, especially for exotics. Truly terrible experience bringing my rat Joey here. 275$ for incompetent care and they deprived us of valuable time that would have been spent getting proper care somewhere else. Joey is now dead from this completely inadequate care and time it wasted. The vet I saw was Dr. Elizabeth Harnett. Expect to wait at least an hour to be seen even if the clinic is empty and then an hour on top of that sitting in the exam room alone in awful chairs. Dr. Harnett had very limited knowledge on proper treatments for common rat diseases. Merely gave additional antibiotics to a rat with severe neurological issues as a failure in differential diagnosis in her unfounded belief it was an ear infection. Joey had already been on antibiotics and prednisone (for upper respiratory infection) for several days before developing circling and she presented with no head tilt making ear infection extremely unlikely. In addition she told me to discontinue prednisone and switch to Meloxicam, which is insane in the case of increased intracranial pressure and inflammation present in PT. Discontinue the only medication that is helping and instead use a much less effective one. The next day I pleaded for her to adminster dexamethasone, but I found out from the reception staff that she only adminstered 0.1mg/kg. The standard dosage range for pituitary gland tumour is 5-20 times that, and even that was like pulling teeth to have them do. When I brought this up as an issue she said that because we didn't do an incredibly expensive MRI (in Ottawa) they claimed we couldn't really be sure it was a pituitary tumour and therefore she wasn't comfortable giving the proper dose, despite consistent behavioural signs and the risk benefit analysis strongly favouring treatment given the frequency of pituitary tumour in rats (~20% of female rats die from it), the large therapeutic index of dexamethasone in rats, and the low chance of differential diagnosis. When it was clear I wasn't happy with the care provided I was removed as a client from the clinic, told I was too confident, lied to, and down 275$ for an incompetent checkup and antibiotics, and the medicine I was waiting for (cabergoline) was cancelled, without them informing me of that fact until I called the next day. Her actions and words were very inconsistent. Since she had committed to specially order Cabergoline it meant she was willing to provide standard treatment for pituitary tumour, but then for some reason not give the proper dose of dexamethasone. Whenever she failed to provide proper care she hid behind not being an exotic vet, but then when I provided her with resources that delineate proper care she refused to learn and implement that care, instead hiding behind her self-perceived authority as a vet to claim any information I could offer was useless. They delay ordering special medicines from compounding pharmacies until Thursdays and medicines aren't delivered over the weekend which means any less common lifesaving medicines are delayed in arrival by ~1 week, completely insufficient in emergency scenarios. Joey was euthanized several days later at Thousand Islands veterinary hospital because by that time she was doing too poorly to justify the suffering that extensive care, that would likely not have been enough to help, by that point. read more

Horrible place, will perform unnecessary tests and procedures just to get money out of you. Went in to have my dog tested for a very specific condition, they charged me over 700 dollars only to inform me the next day that I needed to pay another $300 for the test I wanted done!! The $700 worth of blood work was just to see if it was worth doing the $300 test. The vet even tried to tell me that they were trying to save me money by first doing the $700 worth of bloodwork to see if it was worth doing the $300 test!!!!!! Unbelievable!!!! read more

The service is bad. Don't take your old dog to the Princess Animal Hospital. They will let your old dog die. Our dog was 17 years old. She had breathing issues whenever we went to the Princess Animal Hospital. The Princess Animal Hospital never offered our dog oxygen. The Princess Animal Hospital never offered us a referral to an emergency hospital, even when we asked. Our dog had an infection in her foot and was in pain which made the breathing worse. The Princess Animal Hospital did not take a culture of the foot and did not clean the foot on our first visit. The Princess Animal Hospital did not take a culture of the foot on our second visit during the same week for the same issue. They prescribed more of the same antibiotics even though the medication was not working. The Princess Animal Hospital never offered us pain medication until almost 2 weeks later after I had taken our dog to an emergency clinic in Toronto for the foot and only because I sent the Princess Animal Hospital our Toronto invoice which showed that the emergency clinic had given our dog pain medication. The Princess Animal Hospital says that your dog "could" have this and "might" have that without any diagnostics such as biopsies, and airway assessments and tells you that your dog is going to soon die. They discourage you from getting help and encourage you to perform euthanasia. The Princess Animal Hospital discriminates against old dogs. The Princess Animal Hospital took away from me all hope for my old dog. "Self-fulfilling prophecy, also known as interpersonal expectancy effect, refers to the phenomenon whereby a person's or a group's expectation for the behavior of another person or group serves actually to bring about the prophesied or expected behavior." You will end up killing your dog or allowing it to die because that is what the Princess Animal Hospital wants. read more

We needed to access the Urgent Care side of this vet practice as our own vet had no availability for weeks and our situation was urgent. The process was well explained by the staff (come in/wait/no promises about how long, etc.) but thankfully we were seen quite quickly. Unfortunately the very caring vet (Dr. Flynn) confirmed our worst fears and our beloved pet was euthanized the next day. All of the staff (especially Annabelle) were so kind and compassionate. We are so fortunate to have this service here. read more

This is a place you take your loved pet, and they will work hard to take as much money as they can from you - they're not even bothered if they can fix the problem or not. Misdiagnosis, rude behaviour from the 'so called manager', a lady called Monica - and unprofessional and aggressive service from their vets (a young vet called JP in particular needs some 'training'. We've complained externally to the College of Veterinarians of Ontario about this practice - and we're not the only ones. My almost 16 year old dog went into severe respiratory distress on a weekend and my regular ver was closed. I am so very thankful for Princess Animal Hospital for taking him in immediately and looking after both him and us with dignity and respect. we took our toy poodle in after she got hit by a van and we rushed her in to the vet and she was crying and we knew something had happened. we got in and they felt around her legs and around her body but said nothing was wrong and said that she was being overly dramatic. we took their word and went home, a few weeks later she would start screaming out of no where we took her to our go to vet and they said her two back legs were failing her and she needed surgery. a month later our dog had lost all her weight and would not eat or she would throw it all up. she starting making some sort of deal noises and we took her to a different vet and they said all of her insides had moved into her chest she had a diagram hernia, scar tissue in her chest cavity. collapsing her lungs so she couldn't breathe. so thanks a lot you just bc you wouldn't do a xray bc you said it wasn't needed. you couldve saved our dog. she isn't here anymore because we took your word. she had to have a breathing tube shoved in her mouth just to keep her alive. not happy read more

I've read a lot of reviews on this place. I'd say 100% of them commend them for their great service. However, all the negative reviews complain about the same thing, and that's the cost. Had a quote for my dog to get his teeth cleaned and it was much higher than I anticipated. Got a second opinion and was a much better price. I could care less how fantastic the service is, if you over charge me I'm going somewhere else. However, Monica at Princess Animal Hospital seen my google review and because we essentially paid for blood work twice, she offered my a refund on the blood work that they charged. I must say that even though their prices are higher their customer service is great. If you don't mind paying more, they are good to work with. read more

BEWARE! Over priced and money hungry. I went in for an emergency visit with my dog and I felt like I was over sold a lot of things that were not necessary. I felt as if I was taken advantage of due to my fragile state by Dr. Latimer. They do not consider the well being of your pet, they see dollar signs in their eyes. You will end up paying 75% more than any other vet. read more

We took our beloved Maddy Rat there today. Unfortunately she had to be put down...the staff was beyond kind. They were very knowledgeable about small critters and gave us no b.s. or sale tactics. They are a bit expensive BUT I've taken my animals to every team in town and have always been disappointed with the care and compassion. Dr. Lang is awesome and the lovely vet tech was beyond compare. We can not thank them enough and continue to take our fur babies there. read more
