It's never fun to have to leave a 1 star review, but we simply cannot recommend Foster Ravenswood Self Storage. One, they don't have a secure way to take Credit Card information. You have to write down the full Credit Card number, the expiration date, and even the CVV on what looks like a badly photocopied piece of paper. When we had to change the card on file, we had to actually go to the office and complete another dodgy looking form, rather do it online, securely, through a website or an app. Surely having to write down your entire Credit Card number with expiration date and CVV is not PCI compliant (and yet I did it anyway). Two, they raised our rate immediately after signing up and then they raised it again shortly after that. We hadn't even had the unit for one year. Our original rate was $47/month when we joined in May, in July it was raised to $59/month, and then in November it was $65/month. Three, we attempted to access our storage unit outside of office hours a few times but the pin pad to get into the building was broken more often than it worked. The last time we went, our car was full of stuff but couldn't get in (again). This was deal breaker for us. Other things that were annoying: there is no dedicated parking, only street parking. The office and lobby area wreak of cigarette smoke. The storage unit itself was fine, but the floor was unfinished. When we went to say we were moving out, there were no questions asked. Just a "what is your unit number?" and "sign here" and "here's your move out receipt". Like ok, bye? read more

RENTERS BEWARE! We rented a storage unit for 5 mos during a move. We had mattresses (one Tempur-pedic, one Leesa totaling $3100) in the unit. When we went to get our mattresses, rainwater had seeped into our unit completely destroying both mattresses. The front desk person was evasive about what the management would cover. After my constant follow up's, management covered only the rental amount for the months we rented. The push back from the organization was "you needed to get the insurance". Well, that would have been acceptable if the damage was caused by my own doing or my property. However, the damage was caused by their facility not being sealed properly. They advertise "climate control". Well, this is completely inaccurate. Sadly.... renter beware. Rent at your own risk. read more

So I just received a letter in the mail from the manager " Sinada" who really should not be working here. She treats employees like crap, hounds customers, and uses her power of being a manager to be-little and show favoritism to customers she likes and treat people that she doesn't like, like crap. So I have a 12 month lease as of March 2018 to pay $39.00 per month. I just received a letter from the manager "Sinada" stating that I now have to pay $48.00 per month??????? The lease clearly states I am locked in at $39.00 per month for 12 months, this manager is breaking the leasing agreement. It also makes me feel a little weird that when I had decided to come here, all the other employees have been more than helpful but I find this manager to be aggressive and hostile. And when asking to speak to another manager or someone above her - she claims that this person does not exists?!?!? I believe from other storage units in the area the owner's name might be Pete? In any case, this needs to get resolved, and I hope that by posting my honest and true experience someone from the company will hear this and correct the situation also take this into consideration when finding a new manager for this location! read more

Pam is amazing and hilarious! Unit was clean and climate was comfortable. In building parking was safe, password protected, and made loading and unloading very easy. Only downside is that Hours are limited. We got a month or so free on sign up which made for an affordable summer storage term. read more

The female manager makes this place the most unpleasant place to do business. From the outset, she worked tirelessly to make each encounter I had the most difficult it could possibly be. All of my requests were simple in-and-out types of engagements i.e. visit the storage unit, access to the building, removing items. On the final day, she insisted the truck with 9-ft clearance would not fit in the 14-foot clearance bay. She forced me to park on the sidewalk, for reasons unbeknownst to anyone involved, including she, who did not follow up on the $60 ticket issued to the truck she demanded be parked on the sidewalk. Took no responsibility for any of her actions. A victim, everything and anyone else is to blame. In short, I'm sure the facility is fine, but if you don't have the energy to fight with someone anytime you want to access your unit, don't bother with Foster-Ravenswood Self Storage. Okay. Left a negative review with a 1 star & now I'm changing it!!! Here's my story: I'm getting a great deal at another "chain" location for my storage. But I'm moving for 4 months & will 2 blocks away from Ravenswood Self-Storage. (The current location is about 25 minutes away, if traffic is nice. This is huge bc i need to go into my unit every other day!) At first when I called & talked to the female manage/worker....it didn't go too well. But I don't blame her. She probably sensed that i was frustrated she couldn't match my deal. I hung up. She called back, still trying to get me to come in. I was rude (bc I was soooo convinced SHE was rude) & said Nope! Hung up again. I immediately left a negative review. & then an hour later it sunk in! I was being a stubborn bia. I realistically know this lady was probably just doing her job and it prob has to be so annoying dealing with people, like me, who have to hear how much another monthly bill is going to cost them. THEN I called other places in the area....and it sunk in more. I just was rude to a local business (I LOVE SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESSES!) who was giving me a great deal for the area and it was super convenient. So what did I do? I swallowed my pride & immediately called her back to apologize. I explained to her how frustrated I was knowing I'd probably have to pay more, but wasn't looking at the bigger picture. I live in the area and we ran out of space in our condo so we decided to try this place out since it is close and less expensive than most other places. I arrived when they opened and the lady was to the point, showed my the storage unit, went over the rules, and ensured my code worked. I read the other reviews and I can see where other people may think the staff is curt but it's a storage unit facility, she was respectful and to the point, that's about all you need, this is not a restaurant or some retail store where you expect the store workers to go above and beyond. Expect the workers to be show you the unit, go over the rules, and be respectful, that's all you need for a storage unit place. Did not give 5 stars because the hours are limited, some other storage unit places allow customers to come in during off hours even if the office is not open, this place should do the same. read more

UPDATED from a one star review - I was able to find the owner via LinkedIn. I messaged them and he called me that same afternoon. He apologized for the manager's behavior and sent me my refund which I received this weekend. I appreciate the prompt attention once I was able to find the right person. This would have been a five star review until today due to the female manager - Ms Hernandez. I had a unit for several years and moved out at the end of March, 2017. I was told when I moved out that I was due a refund - it was minimal (around $10) but the manager was out on short term disability so it would be 6-8 weeks before I would be refunded. On Friday, July 28, I finally got around to calling as no refund had ever been processed. I was asked for my phone number and unit number and the manager would call me back. On Tuesday, August 1, I still had yet to receive a call so I placed another call. Pam answered and was trying to be helpful. I could hear in the background another person asking if I could call back tomorrow. I suggested that they have the manager call me back tomorrow and Pam started to take my number. The person in the background, who turned out to be the manager - Seneida - began talking loudly that I was not going to be given a refund, that I moved out after the 10th and that I was not due anything. This was the first I had heard this and it was not even to me directly. It was all being yelled at me while I was on the phone with Pam. Instead of politely getting on the phone with me - or ever calling me back - she chose to yell and complain about me and then left the room. I am guessing I will never get a refund or even a polite phone call that explains anything or actually doing what they said they would do originally because it is the right thing to do and it is a minimal amount. My only recourse is to try to reach out via social media and reviews if I ever expect to hear from anyone and do the right thing. After looking through other reviews, my guess is this manager is unpleasant to everyone which is too bad for their employees and the people who rent units. read more

Moving is stressful, but these self storage people make it even more difficult. I regret that I didn't go with another chain storage place, although I like to support local businesses. One of my pet peeves is when the person who is supposed to be helping you is rude and gives you attitude. It is obvious to me that the people who work here do not want to work here. Here's my story: I was moving out of state, and wanted to put my stuff in storage in the midst of the transition. I ended up booking this storage locker and went to go look at in late September. The woman I dealt with showed me the storage locker, I paid the rent and she gave me a login password and code so I can get into the storage parking bay on move in day. Day of move: I get there, and the password doesn't work. I try it several times, my mover tries it, nothing. I go to office, and the woman tells me to try again, and if doesn't work, she will buzz me in. Doesn't work, and she finally buzzes me in. At this point, I just want to get the move over with. I go to the office, and she tells me I probably didn't pay which is why it doesn't work. I am confused because I didn't know that was an option. I tell her I did pay, and she looks me up, and finds that the original manager did not activate my passcode. I tell her that this needs to work, and then she says "don't get an attitude with me", I look at her aghast. How do I have an attitude when I just want to park my van so I can unload my stuff? I tell her I don't have an attitude, and she says "it is my birthday, and I want to have a good day". Ok....I wish her a happy birthday, but the covert implication is that she is not happy to be working on her birthday, and I better be nice. I am sorry you have to work on your birthday, but that is life. I finally get to my storage locker, and it looks like it is locked, so I go down to ask her about it, and she goes up to look at it, and says it is not locked "Oh you made me come all the way up here"...??? umm ok...So for the next hour or so, my mover and I are unloading and loading my stuff, and we pass her several times throughout. It is obvious I am moving INTO the storage locker. We finally finish, and as I leave, I wave to her, and wish her a happy birthday. I get into van, ready to leave, and she rushes back and says you need to come back. And I am confused. So I come back to office and she says "you need to do your move out paperwork, arent you 921?", and I look at her and say I am a different locker, and I just moved in. I mean hello? we went through a whole thing about an hour ago...how does this woman not remember? so then she has to go through her paperwork, and I keep repeating my storage locker number, and that I MOVED IN! finally she let me go without an apology... I am writing this because I regret using this storage place when there are other places out there that will treat you better for about the same price. Foster Ravenswood has served my needs very well. Moving to a smaller unit after three years was not an issue at all. Infact i overstayed the operating hours by five minutes during the move. They were very accommidating. The place is spotless; the bathroom is always clean. Thank you. Management cares about their customers from my point of view. (I have never been late with a payment). The worse service ever. Manager very unpleasant and not professional at all. She is in the wrong business. Manager never returned my 5 calls. Spoke with 2 different men and I women leaving messages also left 2 voice mail asking for credit since I moved out early and they said only the manager gives refund and then when I finally got a whole of the manager I asked her may I speak with manager and she kept insisting what can she help me with and I kept pressing her for the manager and she finally stated she was the manager and she stated no refunds for early departure and she blame her employees for not letting us know. Super affordable compared to other local prices. Here is how we figured the math: simply divide the total cubic square feet offered by the monthly cost. We added back in the admin fee and lock (you bring your own) and spread that out over anticipated number of months. Viola! We had a price per cubic feet. This place was cheaper, closer and the area inside is nice, heated/aired, protected, clean and quiet. Able to do auto pay here, they also sell insurance for your stored goods. Only downside is hours, which can be tough to coordinate if hiring movers but this worked out for us. read more

My PERSONAL experience with this facility has been and continues to be a source of frustration and concern in regards to their billing practices. I have been charged late fees on bills that were paid via credit card. The facility conveniently forgets to run the charge and then informs us, "You are late," and charges extra fees. It's a deliberate practice, not an infrequent human error. read more

i have very mixed feelings about this company ill start of with the good i guess. They are very clean, cleanliness is extremely important to me. I been to a few self storage facilitys were they are extremely dirty with foul odors. The man who cleans deserves an award, every other weekend i went he is always going back and forth cleaning the entire facility on his own. The office staff is made up of a teenage kid, a guy in his mid 20s and they're female manager. I have nothing much to say about the kid he does what he is suppose to do he took my payments nothing else really. The older guy is extremely respectful and knows how to make a customer feel valuable,always checking to see if i need help with anything. last but not least the manager, I wish i can meet the owner so i can complain to him about the manager she is completely rude and has no respect for her customers. She talks to us as she pleases in a disrespectful way. she disrespected me infront of a friend because i was late in my rent once. if you do not know how to respect your tenants then this job isint for you. Ever since then i decided to handle my business with the other employees. she should take a lesson in customer service from them. read more
