I cannot believe I even need to write this horrible review! We had a TERRIBLE experience using Mark's for our residential move this past weekend. After I called to confirm our move with them the day before, they sent one less mover than I contracted for (they sent 2, not 3) and THE TRUCK WAS TOO SMALL TO FIT EVEN 3/4 OF OUR 2 BEDROOM APARTMENT. How does that even happen? I've seen larger trucks used for smaller moves. My husband spent 7 hours moving heavy boxes and furniture alongside the crew because they literally could not get the job done without him. After 7 hours, we hired a Task Rabbit with a moving truck to come assist, for $250, and I still paid $900 to Mark's. Again, this was a 2 bedroom apartment, not a mansion. I have not received a call back to mend this situation and am appalled. I suggest you do not work with this company. read more

Save your money and pay extra for professional movers. I don't know where to begin saying how awful of an experience I had with the two men who helped me move my small two bedroom apt. My items were damaged. The sofas were not wrapped properly, so they had ton of damage at each ends from scraping against the walls. My wooden headboard was not covered and lamp table. My Chicago high-rise move was just a little over 2 miles door-to-door and there is always tension created by the building management at both ends for elevator reservations and loading logistics. So, the move MUST be on-time. Mark's 2-man team of Headley and Devon exhibited military precision by calling exactly 30-minutes in advance and arriving on-time. These men are lean athletes that move swiftly, but take all due care. My small move with 6 large pieces had been budgeted to take 3 hours in total. Devon and Headley cut that in half. Used them again last Saturday, crew was later than the planned start time by an hour and the way they moved the TV (65" flatscreen) caused the screen to crack. My fault for not noticing the damage prior to them leaving. Sent an email the next day (Sunday) and didn't hear back. On to another mover for any future needs. read more

I recently hired Mark's movers. Please note this was the 4th move I have used them fore. The past two have been so-so and the most recent was terrible. Lowlights of the experience below. 1.) Movers did not bring any tools, so they could not dissemble a tv mount or unscrew the the frame of a bed. What movers don't have even a screwdriver? 2.) By the end of the move, they were moving SO slow, my teenage sister and I moved items out of the truck and into my apartment, along with the movers. My sister and I carried my box spring from the truck, up the stairs, to my bedroom. Yes, we did. 3.) The movers set up my bed so my headboard was at the end of the bed and the end of the bed was touching the wall. Hence, in reverse. Really? Even the condo building I moved into asked why the movers were taking so long. Riding the clock, I think so. Disappointed, frustrated, and will never recommend this terrible service again. 4th time is the last time and this should never be the 1st time for anybody else. read more

Had three pieces of a used oak wood office furniture set to move from Mt Prospect to Wheeling. Called this company on Jan 18th, to have these three pieces of furniture moved on January 21. Very clearly told the man I needed to be called when the movers were on their way, because I did not live at the Mt Prospect location. Jan 21 received call from one of the two movers that they had ALREADY ARRIVED at the home in Mt Prospect. At my home in Wheeling one of the two movers told me that the large office desk could not be moved into the room I was making into my office. Found ONE man on Craigslist who came to my home ... long story short, this one man was able to move that large desk into my office. When I asked for a partial refund from Mark's Small Moves, that request was completely denied. I have been on a fixed income since 1991. I can not afford to pay twice to move a piece of furniture! Bottom Line: This company will never be used again! read more

I was really excited to move with a small, local company. We moved Feb 22 and from the get go, there were red flags. I was quoted $300-$400 for the move, and no one called to confirm the move was on the books. I finally got in touch with them the morning we were to move, and they were on the way. On the way will be the theme of this review, because that is where the movers spent the majority of their time (NOT moving our stuff.) They were an hour and a half late to our first location (my boyfriend and I moved both our apartments into one new place) which set the whole day back. As we were moving into an elevator building, we needed to be done with the elevator by 3pm. Since the movers took their time getting to the first location, that didn't happen and we got charged by our new building. But I digress. When I called, I made it clear that two apartments were being moved into one. I was assured this was not a problem. It was. Stay tuned. The movers took an hour and 15 minutes to drive from 225 N Columbus to 1301 W Argyle at noon on a Monday. All of which we were being charged for. When they finally got to my apartment, the truck was almost full. It took the movers an entire extra hour to play Truck Jenga and move things around to make them fit. It did not all fit and I took eight trips of stuff in my own vehicle. Which I carried myself down from the old place and into the new place. When we finally arrived, now 2.5 hours behind schedule (extended elevator time we had to pay for in our new building that I was assured we would not need), the movers smelled like they had been smoking cigarettes, and weed. Gross. They moved our things up, and $675 and almost 3 hours later than schedule, we were done. Most concerning, I'd say, is that I called the company to inquire about the time of the drive between the two apartments, as well as the gross underquote. Had hey given us an accurate quote, we would have gone with a real moving company that quoted us that from the start. I've called and left three messages, and heard nothing. Customer service is non existent. My recommendation is to avoid at all costs. The quote may be attractive but they are not timely, efficient, or even remotely responsive to customers. If I had to move again, I would only use Mark's Small Moves & Deliveries. I scheduled Mark on July 11th, remember the crazy storm we had? Well, due to the weather, I was an hour late and frazzled. But, Mark was patient, professional and fast. I was on a really tight budget and O.M.G. he saved me! I lived on the 3rd floor and had some huge furniture pieces and lots of boxes. He shrink wrapped my items and his staff moved my stuff into the 16ft truck in 2 hours, it was amazing. Nothing was broken or scuffed. Side bar: when I moved into my apartment the furniture delivery service charged extra for living on the 3rd floor and took an hour to get my couch in (smh). Needless to say, I was very pleased with Mark's service. Oh, I almost forgot, when I called to schedule the appointment I originally had a 10-ft truck, but Mark recommended that I get a larger truck. Thank goodness I did, as I had more stuff than I thought. This guy knows his business. read more

We selected Mark's Small Moves & Deliveries because we wanted a no-nonsense move, and we thought the move would take a very short amount of time, so we liked Mark's policy on minimum duration of a move. It was much better than others. The 3 guys showed up a little after our scheduled start time, but we were sure to budget enough time so that this did not set us back. The guys were able to carry everything, and nothing was damaged. The guys were professional and paid close attention to fragile items, and wrapped the glass table tops & televisions appropriately. Nothing was damaged, and the guys also took care of being gentile on the new hardwood floors at the destination. The main guy contacted Mark when he started the job, and also started a timer on his phone. At the end, he stopped his timer, and we confirmed agreement on duration of the move, and he called Mark to end the job. Mark then confirmed how much we owed, we paid the guys, and we were done. After using several different moving companies within Chicago, I would go with Mark again and recommend him to my friends. read more

I purchased a dresser from Cost Plus World Market and since we're in the never ending polar vortex, I decided to have it delivered rather than pick it up myself. I spoke with Mark and he was really nice and quoted me way less than any other place did. His driver and delivery guys were also nice and they showed up on time and were in and out in no time. I've used them twice in the last six months. These guys moved me into storage and then out of storage and into my new house. Both times they arrived about 15 minutes early (not complaining, always good to get a move done early), and they seriously moved quickly. They got me out of a third floor walk-up in Chicago, wrapped all my large items in protective plastic, got the stuff down into the truck, drove thirty miles to Addison and unloaded into storage, all in under four hours. Not a scratch on my stuff either. Similarly quick and fast on the move out of storage a couple months ago. Friendly guys and good rates (they let you know precisely when they start and end the clock). Would definitely use again, god forbid I have to move again. read more

Mark and his crew were amazing!! I still have 1 out of 4 parts of a move to finish tomorrow morning, but so far my experience has been great! I had quite a huge catastrophe happen with my storage unit...due to my own mistake, and Mark was calm and collected and helped me figure out how to handle the situation, all while dealing with many other things. He even fit me in on one of the busiest days of the year to help me out of my debacle. The crew was fast and careful and came with all the right supplies. We were thrilled with the efficiency, timeliness, accurate quoting, and professionalism of this company. We shopped around for almost 3 months and this was BY FAR the lowest quote and they did not try to get any more money out of us (but DEFINITELY deserved the tips we left them). We had a couple scheduling conflicts and they were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to make sure that we were satisfied. They assembled and disassembled our furniture and even gave us some advice on layout due to a small condo. This is the second time used Mark's. First time was great but a recent move between apartments in Chicago had a issue. The loading dock camera was damaged and it is all on the footage from other cameras. The cost is $1300 and the management Cannot get a response from Mark. The move was in October and now the apartment building is going to charge this cost to my daughter which is not fair. We were told the company had insurance so no reason to not handle this professionally! read more

Fast, cheap, friendly. Same day service really got me out of a jam, and it was at the height of moving season. Mark even cut me a break on the timeclock. Let me start by saying that within the last three years, I have moved a total or seven times and NEVER had a good or decent experience with a moving company/service, mainly because of hidden fees/costs, horrible customer service, etc. With that, I am SO happy to say that the my experience today was beyond phenomenal! I booked the service very last minute, literally a day before the move and they had availability, and with probably the most affordable hourly rate. The three man crew handled all of my belongings, which was quite a bit for a fully furnished one bedroom apartment, with great care and caution. They shrink wrapped all of my furniture, which is definitely a huge help, at no extra cost. What I thought would take four hours at the most, which included a three story walk-up apartment, took a total of two hours at pick up and delivery. I would use their service again. I used Mark's small moves to move from studio to studio about a mile away. It was a crazy day, and the end of the month, so they were a little late, but it's understandable and Mark kept in constant communication. When the movers got there, they got everything done, and moved everything up 4 floors in the new apt in a flash. I will probably use them again if i move next year. I found out that I had to move less than 2 weeks ago and assumed that I'd have friends to help me. I've never used a moving company before. It actually never even crossed my mind. I've heard a lot of horror stories about what a nightmare moving companies can be so it's not anything that I've ever really looked into. Coordinating schedules with friends was beginning to seem impossible though so the night before (yes-ridiculous), I got on Yelp and began looking into possible moving companies. Mark's called me back almost immediately and explained that since it was the night before, they were going to be nice enough to squeeze me in, but it would have to be between 7-9 when they finished up all the other previous moves. I completely understood and said okay. It was pouring and they showed up at 8:30 in good spirits and began to help me move. They were incredibly fast and kind and helpful. I felt terrible because I knew they'd been out since 5 am that day, but not once did they seem to be upset or annoyed at all. They had my couch (a sectional two piece), my gigantic dresser, a large wall mirror, a queen sized bed, a nightstand, a tv stand, and a bike wrapped and loaded in less than a half an hour. It was unreal. When we got to my new apartment we realized that the couch would need to go up the back way, through the alley, down the gangway, and up two flights of stairs. They were completely wonderful. I have some really heavy furniture and even after being out all day in the rain, they could not have been more helpful. After all of this, they charged me an incredibly reasonable price. I happily tipped them on top of that. I would and will recommend them to absolutely everyone. What a wonderful experience! **UPDATE** Mark (the owner) emailed me AFTER I posted this review threatening to take legal action and SUE me because of this review. Let that be a clear indication of how this business is run and NEVER USE THEM! NEVER EVER USE!! WORST COMPANY EVER. If i could give NEGATIVE STARS i would. I read the bad reviews, but we were in a bind and going a few blocks from our previous residence. I thought it would be no problem and not worth the cost of a professional moving company. I wish I had listened to the others' reviews :( Firstly, they came in in a hurry and just started hauling out our boxes. I was somewhat surprised how fast they were moving. Then I realized, they didn't take ANY time to plan or discuss with us what they were moving. One of the movers kept dropping boxes. I was reading yelp reviews about htis company as they were moving us. (reviews like they were slow, on cell phones) and SURE enough..I went down to the loading dock and the man in the van that was supposed to be organizing and putting the boxes on the truck was standing in the truck, surrounded by boxes, TALKING ON HIS CELL PHONE. As soon as he saw me, he quickly hung up and started 'working again'. I had to stand down at the loading dock to monitor b/c any time I left and came back, he wasn't working since he was by himself. The work SLOWED exponentially. They didn't have enough blankets or wraps and had NO idea how to get our furniture into the truck. They are NOT A moving company by any means. Again, we were only going THREE blocks so I figured it would be okay. I was SOO wrong. Our furniture WAS SCRATCHED. DENTED or otherwise damaged. They DRUNG our king mattress on the pavement, tearing it. They set down our king, solid wood headboard on the pavement and left a ding in the corner. They had NO idea how to actually move furniture without damaging it. Long story short, we spend months trying to get a claim for damages and the owner, Mark, was less than helpful. He LIED over and over again and we even sought legal advice. He would write emails claiming he had sent money for damages and then it would get "lost in the mail". We eventually got a minimal amount for our furniture almost five months after the move. WORST BUSINESS. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. All in all, it would have been the same amount to hire professional movers and worth every penny. read more

Overall, the experience was very disappointing. I reached out to the owner after seeing positive Yelp reviews to schedule a move from a third-story walk-up into a first-story apartment, with a stop to pick up an additional piece of furniture. He recommended that I reserve three movers, and the move was set for 9 am on a Sunday. On the day of the move, I was standing outside my apartment building until 9:30 am, waiting for the movers to show up. I called Mark and was told that they were "five minutes away" - twenty minutes before they arrived. The movers didn't call to tell me they were late until 9:25 am. Then, when they arrived, I discovered that there were only two movers instead of three. I helped the movers take boxes and furniture out of my apartment to speed the process, which meant that I wasn't supervising the loading of the truck. I discovered, when they were unloading at my new place, that they had taken desk drawers and other smaller furniture and thrown them into a huge cardboard box in the back of the van, with no protection. As a result, the drawers to my TV stand got scratched and one of the drawers of my desk was irreparably damaged. It was clear that the movers were hurrying because they didn't have enough help, and they were both exhausted and grumpy since it was really a three-man job. I emailed Mark to tell him about the damage and was told that they would only compensate me 0.30 cents per pound, which is a ridiculous policy - what if something small but valuable got damaged? When I pointed out that the movers were late and he sent the wrong size crew, he told me that "sometimes mistakes are made, people call off, no call no shows etc." I sent him the specifications for the damaged desk and he never wrote back. read more

My 2 bed room apartment move for 2 miles took 6 hours ..Yes 6 hours for a couple of beds, sofa & love seat, a couple of dressers and bunch of boxes with three guys. They took their own sweet time loading the truck (3 and 1/2 hours). I personally had to help them unload the truck. Otherwise who knows how much time they would have taken to unload. There were two guys who were helping with the unload while the third guy no where to be seen. The reason given for the slow move was they had to unload till 1:30 pm previous night. Could you give negative stars? Our movers were supposed to arrive at noon. At 12:15 we called and Mark told us they were running behind, and he was going to send another team. The team arrive at 1:15, we only had the elevator reserved until 3pm. We went over our time, had to beg management to allow us to use more time, they agreed. The movers were sluggish, and in NO HURRY to move. Fast forward to our new building, they took 45 mins to go a mile, and still did not understand the concept of moving quickly. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Unprofessional workers that ruined my expensive mattress. They literally tore off the top layer of my bed by using savage grip. Mark told me he would compensate me which did not happen. Agree with other yelper in that the guys were super slow. If you care about your stuff or have semi expensive items dont call these guys. They are available in short notice cause they lack any sense of being professional and lack experience. I came across Mark's searching "cheap movers" on google 4 days before my move. I had gotten 5 quotes before I decided on Marks and I was not disappointed. We made 2 stops before my final destination, we started in the North Shore Suburbs and then drove to make 2 more stops in the City. The two movers that came (James & DJ) were punctual, professional, fast, and efficient. They wrapped up all of my large items with blankets and plastic wrap. They did not dawdle or waste any of my time(or money). James drove the large truck through the tight Chicago alleys like a pro. What I thought would take 3.5 hours only took 2 and what I thought would cost $400 only cost $250. The price is right, would highly recommend, and use again. read more

Got a bed online and had to go have it picked up, unfortunately i don't own a car. Awesome guys, called up and they were in the middle of a job but made sure to get me later on in the night. Set up for the appointment was fantastically easy. Mark does all the setup and driving himself. They show up and load my stuff, then take me right to the entrance of my apartment and load it in for me. I got quoted a higher price and since i'd done a bit of the work myself he knocked it down anyways, but seeing how courteous, fast, and gentle they were with my new bed, i gave them the agreed on flat rate. They work fast, cheap, and on a short call (if reasonable). Definitely do business with these guys. Seriously the best moving experience i've ever had anywhere. read more

STAY AWAY - MOVERS NEVER SHOWED. CONFIRMED TWICE BEFORE MOVE I had such a terrible experience with this company that I created a Yelp account just to warn the Chicagoland area of this company. I set up unloading services with Mark himself about 2 weeks prior to my move. All I needed was 2 men to help unload my trailer into my new building. I explained to Mark that my building only allows 2 hours for the move, so the movers had to be there right at 10. Mark said no problem and scheduled them. I called twice to confirm the movers that they will be there right at 10 (making sure Mark knew that I physically only had 2 hours to move into the building) and he said no problem. Moving day rolls around and I get a call around 9:45 that the movers will be late, about 10-20 min because of traffic. No problem I thought - I started unloading and staging the boxes waiting for them movers. I called and spoke to Genesis - she said the movers are on the way and will call when they are 10 min out. I keep unloading and preparing my items to make the move even easier. 20 min go by, no call. I call them up again and get the same message that they are on their way and they are tracking them via GPS. Another 25 min goes by and still no call or movers. I then get the voicemail at the business and can't reach anyone. At this point, it is 11:20 and I only have 40 min left of my allotted moving time left with my building. My girlfriend and I had to rush and unload our trailer by ourselves because Mark never sent any movers. I got a call around 11:30 asking if I still needed them. If you are looking for a company without integrity, then Mark's Small Movers and Deliveries is right up your alley. I confirmed 2 times prior to the move and the movers still never showed up. HORRIBLE - Save your time, spend a little more money, and hire movers that will actually show up. STAY AWAY. read more

Mark definitely helped me out when I was stuck with a new couch, chair, and ottoman and no way to move it the next morning. I needed to get some big pieces out of Chicago to the northwest suburbs Sunday morning. I called at 10 pm Saturday night, and they were able to show up early the next morning and did a fantastic job.
