Well, I've been to a lot of Fosters Freeze locations around California and this one has the BEST soft serve of any Fosters Freeze. Vanilla or chocolate, both thick and creamy and delicious. My husband and I used to enjoy getting vanilla and chocolate dipped cones from our local Dairy Queen and Fosters Freeze, but then they went and closed all of the locations near us in the Bay Area. It's probably better for our waistlines, but we often tell each other once a week, "Wouldn't it be nice to get an ice cream from Dairy Queen or Fosters????" Not too bad to find off the freeway. We wanted ice cream and heard that Fosters Freeze was the way to go... and we were not let down! The LOCATION- A little off the 5 south road, but worth the detour. Easy to find, and has a small, yet quick turn over parking lot. There's also side street parking, so not bad. They take orders from the outside drive-thru like windows and side street drive-ins. You can be in line and wait at the bench they have in front of the window. The menu is easy to read and follow, prices are clear. There's also an interior sit down area where there bathrooms are, but we didn't go in. It looks clean and spacious and quiet. It's a great refuge from the heat or just a easy spot to chill. The ICE CREAM- Man! we wanted everything. but we settled for the vanilla and chocolate swirl, and the rocky road Twister. OMG! definitely worth the creamy delicious calories- you don't even feel like you're indulging. It's luscious and well balanced. The Twister has texture throughout and definitively worthy the rocky road name- marshmallows, nuts, crunch with the chocolate freezing dip they pour over it. We left satisfied. The STAFF- Friendly and courteous and enjoyed serving us. There's something awesome about eating at a place where the employees enjoy what they serve. Foster's Freeze has been around in California for decades. The location in Los Banos is a short drive off I-5. My favorite item since childhood has been their orange freeze. It is cold, tasty and refreshing on a hot day driving across the valley or on I-5. They are open for takeout only at this time. There is easy access and plenty of available parking. Pretty decent place with a very old interior. I felt like I was back in the 90s, even the paper placemats in the trays had 90s advertisement. It's not the cleanest inside but the food was decent. Mozzarella sticks are definitely had some stretchy cheesiness to it. The marinara sauce they give you is a little too chunky for me. Husband said his burger was okay. We came for the desserts, dipped and two twisters. All were so yummy, the dipped cone surprisingly was better than most places I've been too. There are not a lot of Fosters Freeze places near where I live in the Bay Area, so this was a unique experience to try a California chain. They advertise ice cream and burgers mostly, but I found that their ice cream is not really like Baskin Robbins, but more like Dairy Queen. They have their own frozen custard that you can order on a cone or with mix-ins, in a cup. The mixed option looks like a DQ Blizzard. There are a lot of sizes to choose from, and the portion sizes are huge! Malts, milkshakes, and smoothies are also options on the menu. Besides that, the savory food such as burgers and fries are available, but I can't comment further than that since I didn't order any savory food. This was my last stop before heading home to Fresno, we stop at this Foster's because it is convenient located right on the 152 with easy access off and on. Food quality was great with friendly staff. We ordered three medium fries and three twisters. Twisters were bomb-diggy! This Foster Freeze is my absolute favorite. The hamburgers are cooked to order and always delicious. They use plenty of fresh crispy lettuce and the buns are always fresh. The French fries are cooked to order and always hot and crispy. They don't use fries that have that weird coating to make the fries artificially crispy. This Fosters is consistently good. I've been to the Fosters in Hollister, CA and they actually precook their burgers and stick the assembled burger into a plastic box and reheat the whole burger, lettuce and all. I was shocked. The burgers were fine, and the French fries were perhaps the hottest we've ever been served -- and they stayed that way. Sure, there are Foster's Freezes in numerous locations, and in numerous cities...and their menus are supposedly the same. However, let it be known that while they share menu items, preparations can be completely different depending on the location. Los Banos' Foster's Freeze has, bar none, the best fruit freezes available... Unlike most other Foster's, this one makes the freezes a bit chunky. My standard since I was about 14 has been the Strawberry Banana. Every other place tends to blend the freeze until perfectly smooth, but nothing beats sucking up little chunks of strawberry and banana at the end of your freeze. What the hell's a freeze you say? Well, it's pretty much like a milk shake, but instead of milk, they use soda water. Similar to the NY concept of an egg cream, but definitely closer to the CA concept of a smoothie. It's a lightened up alternative to the shake. Aside from the Strawberry Banana Freeze, their spicy chicken sandwiches tend to be be better here than in other locations...the spiciness does tend to fluctuate however from time to time and can range from searingly hot, to just a little spicy (the latter being what I had most recently) read more

I love stopping on my way between home and the Bay Area to this very original Foster's Freeze. I literally have been dropping by here for about 1/2 a century. I think they may have changed owners in the last 10 years because it used to be a family running in and now it seems like a different group of people. No matter, it's a very casual, non-corporate looking fast food type of place with what I'd imagine is the original kitchen and dining areas. I personally love the walk up window for those hot days you just want to get a dipped cone and get back on the road, or better yet, being able to walk my dogs around the block, walk up to the window, buy a cup of water with that cone and move on. I would say that the bathroom (that I used Sunday) really needs a good overall and cleaning. It used to be one of the cleanest on highway 152 but it's real grubby making for 4 stars instead of five, but I'll never stop going to FF in Los Banos.
