Our family member is a 19-year-old high performing athlete who has had daily headaches and post-concussion symptoms since October. After five months of neurologists finding nothing on standard MRI, we flew to CognitiveFX for the EPIC treatment week. The fNCI scan was genuinely illuminating -- the most objective picture of what was wrong that we'd had in five months. The treatment protocols were sophisticated and specifically mapped to her scan results. Her before and after scores moved dramatically. We believe something real happened this week. But here's what didn't happen. On day one I asked explicitly: by Friday we need an honest clinical assessment of when and if she can return to sports. That was the single most important ask. Friday's end-of-week review was conducted by a nurse and a trainer. No physician was available at any point during the entire treatment week. The doctor whose name is on her scans we have still never spoken to. In fact, we were told three of the four doctors listed at the clinic do not come in, and one wasn't coming in the entire week we were there. No doctors -- at all. We had to push hard just to get a Tuesday Zoom scheduled with the physician of record-- after the week was over and we were already on a plane home. There's more. CognitiveFX ordered a cervical spine MRI on day two of treatment. The radiologist found degenerative disc disease out of proportion with vertebral wedging from chronic axial loading. Nobody mentioned this to us during the week. We found out from a chiropractor we saw on the way to the airport Friday afternoon. CognitiveFX had that report for three days and said nothing. We also requested CognitiveFX's own return-to-sport specialist, who had committed to being part of the end-of-week process in a pre-treatment meeting be included in Friday's review. He wasn't there either. No one was but a thoughtful nurse. For what this week costs, the clinical consultation piece should not require a parent to fight for it after the fact. The diagnostic tool is real. The treatment protocols are real. The therapists and trainers were professional and clearly skilled. But a medically supervised program needs physicians who are actually present and accountable. That part was not delivered. I'll update this review based on how Tuesday's follow-up call goes.

I decided to come because I could either pay the price by continuing to live my life with post-concussion syndrome or I could pay the price to come to the best place in the world for treatment and then enjoy the rest of my life. I went to my local medical center and saw their neurologist and speech and memory therapist as well as had physical therapy. I was not getting better. A friend saw me in my condition and decided to research what was out there that could help me. I had no idea that there was a place like CognitiveFX. I made the best decision and flew to Provo Utah for treatment. The therapists cared so much about me and helping me get better. The patient care coordinators are very skilled and are very fun to work with. I connected with so many of them. I heard that they were world renowned before I came here and that absolutely is true. There were patients from several different countries here as well as local people and people from within the United States. Today is my last day and I really hate to leave this wonderful place. It feels like am leaving family. I'm pretty sure that you'll feel the same way when you make the prudent decision to come here for your concussion treatment.

They told me to put my service animal in the car for 2 hours, because I had to do 2 MRI , lumbar and cervical. I got into the MRI Area I follow their advise to put my dog in the car...and after 2 minutes my Hart Rate start raising...palpitation...thinking of my Service dog being restrained by himself in the car. I requested right away to pull me out because of the stress they caused me , the roll of a service dog was to alert me for onset of anxiety, PTSD... Utah State Law prohibits cruelty to animals, which includes inadequate protection from extreme whether, the temperature in a car is 30 degrees higher than the outside temperatures. They don't do any follow up with you on the MRI; if you get one they just schedule you to get an injection without going over the results with you. If they send it to the doctor who referred it, they mail if a week later. I got an Epidural injection and the doctor did it on the opposite side where the injury was even when challenged. The injection caused more damage; I went in with some mild problems and a few days later I could barely walk and couldn't sit down. When I called in to tell them I had problems they said to give it two weeks. It didn't get better in two weeks and they didn't care enough to call back. I had to go to another doctor to try and recover from their work.

Nurse asked a bunch of questions and then Dr. Staheli came in. He also asked a bunch of questions before agreeing to do the sleep study. After speaking with the doc he walked us to Ms. Jackie. Not sure if she was having a bad day, but she was rude and seemed bothered by doing a job and made us walk back up front to reception to get our insurance card scanned. The sweet gals told me they were so sorry that she made us walk back to the front and what an inconvenience when it could have been handled by Ms. Jackie. They scanned my card. Sent me back to Ms. Jackie, and then Ms. Jackie has the nerve to ask me to pull out my insurance card to verify the info! What?! After verifying the info matched she rudely told me a few dates that we could do the sleep study. I chose a date. She then told me I had to be back on a specific date fir the follow up with results. When I asked if my child needed to be present she said yes very rudely. I said well that date was her first day of school and I wouldn't let her miss it. She gave me the next date and said if you don't take this date you won't get your results for another 2 months after. Uh, ok, then give me the next date, she wrote it in a business card handed it to me and said expect a phone call from the sleep clinic a day before and don't be late. My experience observing my wife getting a scan there…read moreconsisted of people in their early 20s lost, confused, and overworked trying to do more than they were able to. Whoever runs this place should be ashamed and embarrassed. They then ran the wrong test resulting in a false negative so my wife's ailment remained untreated trying to figure out another solution. Then they charged the wrong insurance and refused to back down that they could've possibly been wrong resulting in us paying a large sum of money for the scan. Again, I don't recall seeing anybody there who was over the age of 24. At a medical facility. They then were unable to admit that they charged the wrong place so we had to pay for the wrong test because, again, they messed up. Stay away from here. If a doctor recommends you here, say no. You're better off poking yourself with a knife. Did I mention that the 22-year-old-girlypop-would-be-phlebotomist poked my wife with the needle 8 times because she wouldn't believe my wife when she said her veins were too small for a regular IV? Or that I had to remind the 23-year-old nurse aid or assistant Provo bro what he forms he had and hadn't filled out and what questions he had and hadn't asked? Or that rather than trying to help us with their mistake charging the wrong insurance they just badgered my wife incessantly until she had to get her lawyer father to step in while they figured all this stuff out? Seriously, these people don't deserve even the microbial respect automatically assigned to an entity when scrolling past it online.
