I have always liked Founders! The food meds are a bit pricey, but the veterinary care was always top-notch. My pet enjoyed going there for grooming. I always felt that we were lucky to have a quality neighborhood pet clinic. When we finally had to put down our 16 year old pet, they were very caring and comforting allowing him to pass-on in a dignified and loving way. He had been going there since he was a pup! I've been going here for 9 years; grooming services too. They've treated 5 pets and a few fosters too. I love Dr. Zempo so I am sad to go but I can only take so much s*** from Mary Lou (the 'older' woman who "looks down her nose", as other reviewers have described her). My indoor cat got out and was in a cat fight. The other cat sliced her belly open. It was 11:45AM on a week day & Mary Lou refused to let me bring her in because the two Vets weren't there at the time. She was not compassionate, nor did she apologize. She told me to take her to the Emergency Clinic in Tustin-- seriously?! (I ended up going to Brea Vet & they squeezed her in on the spot). So, like an idiot, I go back to get my kitten spayed a week later. At the pre-exam they said it would cost $600. Let me repeat that... $600. TO SPAY A KITTEN???? Wow. Their prices have gone up, the Receptionist/Front Office Manager is snippy, never smiles & probably hates her job, and they even turn people away. I'm done. I went to the CAT CARE CLINIC in Orange & they charged me less than half that! AND they were very friendly, warm and professional. I will NOT be going back to Founders & wish I'd made this decision a long time ago! read more

I had a great experience here, until I realized I was getting ripped off. The staff was always super nice, and they seemed like they cared about my kitten. I explained to them that I was on a tight budget and they seemed willing to work with me -which was my reason for staying with them. My kitten was losing patches of hair, which they suspected was ringworm so they gave me a lime dip solution for his skin. I suspected it was mites, but they did a skin scrape anyway to make sure, and yep- it was mites. Knowing I'm on a budget, they asked me prior to the procedure to make sure I was okay with paying $36- I said I was. They charged me for that skin scrape even and it confirmed my suspicions-cat has mites. Then, they basically told me that whatever the results were wouldn't matter anyway, because the lime dip they gave me would take care of everything anyway. So they charged me for something that was completely pointless. Next appointment, they checked his fur/skin and gave him a dewormer and vaccine. Dewormer and vaccine were already covered, but what I was not expecting was a $62 charge for the doctor to check the fur/skin. They never told me ahead of time that there would be a charge, and to me it was completely unfair considering the doctor just sifted through his fur for what seemed like one minute. After this charge, I decided I'm not bringing kitty in to this place anymore. Was planning on getting him neutered there, but found another vet that charges half the price they do. It sucks because pet owners are vulnerable to their furry friends' health/illnesses, and it seems like this place takes advantage of that. I'd rather take my business elsewhere. read more

I have been bringing my dogs and cat here for over 7 years. Dr Zempo has been great in treating all my pets. I like her holistic approach, and how she isn't quick to prescribe medication to conduct expensive testing that may not be necessary. The staff is great, and always treats my pets with care and respect. read more

We have been taking our dog to founders for many years. We were sad to see Terifi go, she was so great with getting our little guys skin and diet back on track. We have only been there a couple times since the change in owners and so far we have been satisfied with the current care. read more

Update 2015. I no longer take my furry babies to Founders. Their service and care had declined over the last 5 years and this was the last straw. We had a serious incident in January 2015. I won't write a novel here. Long story short, my Pookie stopped eating. This was a MAJOR red flag because she's a foodie. This dog will eat raw lettuce. We brought her in after two days of not eating. Dr. Zeppo ran a bunch of tests that didn't show anything. She prescribed some probiotics and prescription food. Two more days later, Pookie still was not eating and puked up anything we managed to force feed her. I called Dr. Zempo who recommended more tests and (this was the last straw) feeding her "more yummy food." She wanted us to buy some El Pollo Loco chicken. SERIOUSLY??? We already told her we had tried everything from steak, chicken, liver, everything and my foodie dog would literally walk away from it all. Well, we tried the El Pollo chicken, and no surprise, she wouldn't even look at it. That's when I knew we had to go for a second opinion. Fortunately. It all worked out and Pookie is back to her foodie self. read more

I've had many different Veterinarians due me and my husband moving lots of times due to his job. I found "Founders" and wasn't very happy with the obvious fact they want to gouge you. Don't they realize by treating you right and being honest and fair you will come back? (Repeat business is what it's all about.) Gouging NEW customers is not the way to get them to come back. I met Dr. Terifaj and I did like her. But if you choose to take your pet there you BETTER ask what a rough estimate will be on your pet or you will be sorry! I didn't ask how much to clean teeth and ended up spending close to $900.00. (In fairness to them...my dogs teeth were bad...but wow...they could of warned me of the price before hand.) I have always had Vets tell me roughly what it would cost BEFORE hand...not at this place...and I suppose that's my fault since I didn't ask and "assumed" it would be reasonable like the other Vets I've taken my dog too. I've called with some concerns about my dog as they instructed me too...and they PROMISE each time to call me back and NEVER do. This was important. Why do they tell me to call if they have no intentions of calling me back! They got all my money so to heck with me and my pet. I also didn't appreciate them telling me drop off time for my dog the day of the procedure was 7:00 AM. I had to get up by 5:00 AM to get there and I was the ONLY ONE THERE. "This entire parking lot was EMPTY." There was ONLY one lady inside when I got in there. I asked where everyone was? She said they will be in later at 9:00 AM. Well WHY did I have to get up at the crack of dawn and drop my dog off so darned early and have it stressed out for two hrs or more before they even got there!! Had I known that I would of NEVER been there that early...no excuse for it other then to charge me MORE for having my dog under their care. What pissed me off more when I picked my dog up LATER...MUCH later. I hear the front desk girl tell another women drop off time is between 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM. Why was it 7:00 AM for me!!! My poor dog sitting in there for 2 hrs ALONE. No one bothered to tell me that someone else would be doing my dogs teeth either. They needed cleaned and extractions. I would appreciate them telling me who is working on my dog...I again like an idiot assumed it would be Dr. Terifaj. I don't just let anyone work on my dogs. I also noticed my dogs teeth were NOT near as white as they are when I've taken my dogs to other vets for dental. They did look much better...but not super white like my other Vet I use. BIG DIFFERENCE. For $900.00 they should of been sparkling white IMO. I just found out yesterday my friend called there to get her dog a rabie shot. She called to make an appt and asked how much for the rabie shot? The office gal told her since this is the first visit Dr. Terifaj likes to exam your pet and the OFFICE VISIT ALONE will be $79.00. (SAY WHAT!) That DOESN'T even make sense that you have to have your pet examied before getting a rabie shot. (It couldn't be for they can hit you for a $79.00 charge on TOP of the rabie shot...then find other things wrong with your pet and charge even more. Give me a break...I can take any one of my dogs to ANY Veterinarians office right now WITHOUT having to get a EXAM first. By LAW you have to have a rabie shot so she thinks she will profit off of it. That's just wrong! This Vets office must be dealing with the rich that have extra money to throw away. That will be the day a Vet tells me I HAVE to have an EXAM in order to have a rabie shot. Their working for me...not the other way around. They obviously don't care about chasing off new customers.(They should make sure when a customer is walking out their door that they are walking out HAPPY...if they feel cheated, gouged, ripped off it's likely your business will feel the affects..) Because it's all about WORD OF MOUTH these days. I certainly will NOT be recommending Founders. If they don't want my business...nor my family or friends...that's fine with me. It's a shame because I really did like Dr. Terifaj...she seemed so nice...and I'm sure she is. (But this place is all about making money off you so watch out.) There are FAR TOO MANY GOOD veterninarian clinics that are honest and fair without gouging you. (If you choose to go here...INSIST on a ESTIMATE BEFORE hand!) Good luck. If "Founders" was smart...they would realize in most cases ppl like myself and my friend will go into a NEW Vets office for something small like a rabie shot to SEE HOW the staff and verternarian treats you and your animal. It can be very telling. I've found some of my BEST Vets this way. But when someone wants to GOUGE you just to get a rabie shot that tells me everything I need to know. We have been going to Founders for 20 years, although not real close to our house well worth the drive. Dr. Terifaj and Dr. Zempo are very competent, thorough, and caring. They stress a holistic and preventative approach to pet care stressing diet and supplements (when needed). When our dog developed arthritis Dr. Terifaj recommended glucosamine supplements way before this became the "fad". They continue to educate themselves and offer up-to-date medical advise. Dr. Terifaj takes her time evaluating, even for their yearly check-up. LOVE this place and would not consider using anothe Vet!!! read more

My experience at founders was always let down by the very rude receptionist her name is "mary lu" she always has a mean look on her face and when I asked her any questions she always responded curtly and very very rude! We have been taking our dog to Founders to see Dr. Zempo for over 5 years and couldn't be happier. Dr. Zempo and her staff are amazing, attentive, incredibly patient and caring. From annual wellness visits to other things that come up throughout the year, we couldn't feel more reassured with the care that our dog consistently receives from Dr. Zempo and her staff. Even when emergencies have come up, they are able to squeeze us in and see our dog on short notice. Our friends referred us to Dr. Zempo and we've referred several of our friends - we all love Dr. Zempo and her staff! Here's just one example of how Dr. Zempo goes above and beyond: our dog only has one eye and recently developed something in his eye that we could tell was problematic. The specialist that we usually see couldn't get him in and recommended that we go to see Dr. Zempo since she could see him earlier. We went to see Dr. Zempo and she took her time examining his eye and made a tentative diagnosis, took pictures and said she would contact the specialist for us (this was on a Saturday). We got a call on Monday from Dr. Zempo telling us that she had talked to the specialist, they agreed on the diagnosis and then Dr. Zempo helped us get an appointment to see the specialist for further care. The other thing I love about Dr. Zempo is that she is always honest about what is needed, what the cost is going to be and doesn't try to sell us on procedures or products that aren't necessary. She also takes a more natural and holistic approach to providing medical care for our dog. Dr. Zempo is the only vet for us and our pets! read more

Sadly long ago I would have given this place 5+ stars but when Dr. Zempo took over the whole office/practice and Dr. Terifaj retired things went completely downhill. The prices went up and the service went WAY down. Their prices are ridiculous for even just an exam and you get way less time and service it is a total ripoff!. I used to trust Dr, Zempo with my pets while Dr. Terifaj was there but now no way. I had a frustrating ordeal with my dog that cost me well over a $1,000+ that did not need to be spent had she and her staff taken the time to listen to me. I had to come in for several tests and visits and when I would call with a question or more info it would get relayed wrong and I would get call back with an answer that wasn't even close to what I was telling them or asking (mind I only called 2-3 times but each time It was frustrating). My poor dog went through needless tests and I spent a lot of unnecessary money. It took a lot but I finally took my dog elsewhere for a second opinion before it went to another pricey test (ultrasound). Sure enough the new vet said it was exactly what I was thinking was going on and it seemed she was shocked that I was going to have to me doing an ultrasound next. I saved that money and my dog was saved. They really put my dogs life on the line taking so long to figure out what was wrong and giving needless test and meds etc. It was with a heavy heart but with all the frustration and horrible communication and bad service I left this vet and now take all my dogs elsewhere. I had gone there for over 10+ years. I later found out the family who originally referred me to this vet office stopped taking their pets here too as they do not care for Dr. Zempo any more or the prices. Dr. Zempo just really seems preoccupied and lacks a lot of experience and truly seems to not care anymore. Eric used to be the office manager and I am not sure if he left because Dr. T retired or what but Zempo's husband runs the front and really lacks knowledge and they just seem hungry for money now. Truly a tragedy this was such a great place and was just run into the ground. read more

We were out of town with someone staying at our home to take care of our dog when she had an emergency. Our daughter took her to Dr. Zempo and our daughter was right...she and her staff, knowing that we were far away, took excellent care of her and we are forever greatful. read more

The Doctors are fantastic. The staff is wonderful. The place is clean, clean, clean! They offer natural food and vitamin supplements before going for drugs. It was my first time to Founders Vet. Clinic and my cats vet was Dr. Zempo. I brought my cat in because I was unable to get into see his regular vet at Brea Vet Hospital and it was an emergency. My cat had a serious ear infection that was causing abnormal eye function in his left eye and A LOT of pain and discomfort so Founders was our last resort last minute. Long story short my cat received expensive, and unnecessary treatments and I ended up walking out with a cat that ended up becoming more sick that same evening. Luckily I was able to get into Brea Vet Hospital that following next day and thank God because after my cats regular vet checked my poor kitties ear and eye thoroughly she came to the conclusion that my cat was a VERY LUCKY boy because if he had not received treatment that day the infection from his left ear that had started spreading to his left eye would have pertinently effected his left eye and the infection could have also spread to his right eye if not have been treated that day. I am VERY displeased with the treatment my cat received here I will never be returning to them for treatment for my cat, nor will I ever refer friends or family. read more

My husband and I just came home from taking our sick cat to this place. Our poor cat has been wheezing, labored breathing, hiding, not eating, for the last two days. All the doctor did was give us an antibiotic and I think she spent a total of 3 minutes with us. No x-rays, no listening to her lungs and heart, nothing!!!! I am so unhappy!!!!! My husband just left to take our poor cat to Yorba Regional. I hope they can help her and tell us what could possibly be the matter with her. read more

I was very disappointed with Founders. They talked me into purchasing the puppy plan for $200 which was supposed to cover a whole list of things that we "needed." Turns out, all it really covered was her last immunization and rabies. I could have paid $30 for the same thing elsewhere. Oh, but don't worry, it came with a free toy. Last time I took my puppy in she had a small welt and they wanted over $100 to do tests on her (not included in the "complete physical exam" and "blood test" even though it says that is included on the puppy plan). Then we asked about getting her spayed and they wanted at least $500 and "probably more since she is a big bread." She is 8 months old and 30 pounds. That is not big. And $500!! You have got to be joking. I liked the staff, but the amount of money we wasted just made me sick. If they were offering something so much better than another vet, that would be one thing, but you can find the same thing at a clinic for a fraction of the price. read more
