The Four Corners Luncheonette is only so-so in my opinion. This restaurant is kind of run down in terms of atmosphere, and it is not very comfortable; there are only about a dozen or so tables, so you kind of have to take what you can get, which in my and my in-laws' case was a small booth. We barely fit in it, and we are all generally slender people. On to the food... I ordered a BLT (which was to come with chips & a pickle) and a side of coleslaw. Out came the BLT with just a little cup of coleslaw. There was obviously a miscommunication. I didn't want to have to ask for the other sides I was entitled to so I just ate what I was served. The sandwich itself was very good (how do you mess up a BLT, after all?) For $8, though, the meal was lacking in terms of portion size. I did not pay the bill, so I don't know if I was charged $8 and $3 for the coleslaw, or just $8 (meaning the coleslaw came in lieu of the chips & pickle). I left feeling underwhelmed and that the food was overpriced. I doubt I will be back anytime soon. I can sit more comfortably and eat cheaper (but just as delicious) food at My Place & Co. or even the local diner. read more

I want to give this place four stars. Really, this is a strong three. But can someone please tell Four Corners how to make home fries?? The home fries are big chunks of potatoes, barely browned. No, no, no! A thousand times no! Home fries should be diced to about half the size they are here, and be well-browned. Most of our party had plates that included home fries, and no one came close to finishing them. This should be a clear sign that You're Doing It Wrong. What gets me is that the corned beef hash is perfect! The potatoes are diced small and fried up nice and crisp with some delicious corned beef. So why can't they make the home fries similarly? It kills me, I tell ya, it just kills me. If they could just fix those home fries and make them look crispy and appetizing instead of pale and blah, I would gladly upgrade to a four star review because everything else here is creative and delicious. read more

I typically would not review an establishment that 1) I did not pay for myself and 2) I did not visit personally. However, I was at a meeting today that was catered by Four Corners and it was remarkably good, so I thought it was appropriate. They offered a really delightful vegetable tortellini soup that was chock full of vegetables and flavor. They offered a potato leek soup that people seemed to enjoy. I also had a turkey cranberry wrap, pasta salad, and a green salad that were all very good. Maybe I just haven't been to a well catered event before (besides my wedding) but I thought this place did a great job on the food. Also, FANTASTIC cupcakes! I'd like to know if they bake on premises or if they use an outside bakery. Very very good. It seems as though their eat-in customers have given lukewarm reviews, so I may stop in at some point in the future to update with a more balanced perspective. read more

I only came to eat here because my first choice turned out to be closed. Lucky me because now THIS is my first choice. Not only were the two breakfast entrees we ordered fantastic and fulfilling, but the soup and bread we bought to take home made us love this place all over again. And decent prices too. We moved to Delmar almost two years ago now and found this place soon after. This place has been consistently fresh, delicious, and enjoyable. I especially appreciate that they don't only do their own smoking and brining, but they are remarkably good at it. We came for Sunday morning brunch today. Great food, great service, somewhat pricey. I had a three egg omelet with sausage, peppers, and cheese. My wife had a broccoli, mushroom and horseradish cheese omelet. We both had home fried potatoes and toast. Every bit of the food was tasty and well presented, and there was plenty of food on the plate. Coffee was full bodied and didn't need cream or sugar. Reading the other reviews, I have this nagging question... What's up with the service? Today it was fine. Wait staff was efficient and effective with a non-intrusive good humor. I gather it's not always this way. When we go back, I'll encourage them to read the Yelp reviews. IMO, the BEST breakfast in the Capitol Region. I have been here about a dozen times, never had a slip up, never a bad meal, never any problems. I have had the red flannel hash, the rabbit sausage, the out of this world french toast with berries, the raspberry johnnycakes. The Goat and Green Onion Omelette is unbeatable. All of it wonderful. I wish they had their "Dakota" bread every day, this is the dill bread. AMAZING. While the wait at the door can be long sometimes as can the wait for food, the ambiance makes up for it, everyone is happy and smiling and the place is so damned quaint. I have just spent all night making a large chocolate order with a motley group of assorted oompah loompah's (I have a small custom chocolate company) ...just dropped off said loompah for a well deserved rest and turned to Yelp to find me a unique breakfast destination.... What a surprise...!!! In a slightly off the beaten path home turned into a respite for weary chocolatiers... I lowered myself into a spacious booth...no sooner did jeans meet booth naugahyde... Than a coffee was thrust into my hand... I went for the salmon horseradish omelet with delectably seasoned chunks of roasted potato.... I've been here a few times, their sandwiches and kale/Parmesan salad are really good but their French toast is pretty much my worst nightmare. The banana gunk they put on top truly tastes like melted Laffy Taffy, inedible and a waste of challah. Waited 25 minutes for milk for my tea at which point it was cold. Small but quaint. A restaurant of locals. The type of place where the old-timers go every day at the same time and sit in the same seat that they always have. The food is the main draw at the luncheonette but the menu needs some change. It's been the same for a long time. Their bread and soups are consistently good. While there for lunch the other day, my friend and I stood in the doorway for a few minutes until we were told to sit. Two workers were in sight: one was gabbing with a customer and the other was standing with her back to us behind the counter. There were only a few other diners. I didn't have a good feeling. My experience at this establishment over the past 15 years has found the service very lacking. It hasn't changed. The waitstaff, mostly female, is not attentive nor are they particularly pleasant. I tried to remember I was there to eat. The food was average. Because it was a Friday during Lent, I found I had very few choices. I went with the fried fish sandwich which came with chips and pickle. My friend opted for a chicken salad sandwich on rye with chips and pickle. My fish filet was about 1/4" in thickness. I'd never seen such a thin piece of fish. The breading was good but I have to say I didn't taste any fish. The roll was nicely grilled. Potato chips are potato chips, these seemed like Lay's. There was a small handful but that's all I needed. Two thick dill pickle slices accompanied the food. They looked as though they were sliced from a larger pickle. Novel approach. My friend's chicken salad sandwich looked good and she said the chicken salad was good and the rye bread was fresh and soft. All in all, not a bad lunch. Four Corners has the best deserts and soups in the area. The crab chowder on Fridays is my favorite. However, the restaurant needs a good cleaning and some fresh paint. The floors look like they have an inch of grime on them and looking into the kitchen is really scary. I have been going there for 20+ years and I think it has gotten worse. I mean, I've had bad coffee... like waiting for an oil change in a crappy auto shop or something, and this coffee is much worse. Everyone should go here. Why aren't you eating there right now? This place is best described as a homestyle cookin' restaurant for aging yuppies. They've got your yuppie comfort foods like roasted veggies, mesculin mix salad with blue cheese, apples, nuts. Lots of fancy salads and sandwiches like asparagus & swiss. Tons of vegetarian choices. Great homemade veggie burgers which change weekly. Some of the best baked goods in town. Once in a great while they'll concoct a dessert or dish that doesn't quite work, but otherwise, they are drop dead consistently great. Always fresh. This is one of my favorite places to eat when I come home to Albany. Today was the day after Thanksgiving and it was very very busy and they were overwhelmed. My friend ordered Sweet potato omelet with pecans and raspberry sour cream and I ordered the eggs Benedict.They were definitely not on their mark today so when my friends' meal was cold she asked the waitress to heat it up for her, over 10 minutes later she had not brought her breakfast back to her and we had to flag her down. Still her meal was cold. The waitress saw that my friend was not eating it and asked if it was ok and my friend told her it was not. Without any suggestion from us though, she did take the bill and took the charge off but my friend only ended up having toast for breakfast while I sat there and ate delicious and hot eggs Benedict. Besides my friends meal being cold and the waitress taking her meal back for a reheat and then forgetting about it, the ladies room was less than clean. I have been to Four Corners many times and this is my first bad experience. Since this place is normally terrific, the waitress made good on it and everything else was good, I will still give them 3 stars and when I come back I will update. read more

Four Corners is a kitchy-cute little place to get a tasty, creative brunch w/some friends! Wound up coming here after finding out that the venerable Miss Albany Diner was closed for Labor Day weekend, and wasn't disappointed! The food is extremely plentiful, very tasty, and there's an awesome menu of breakfast items w/a twist! (The goat cheese & onion omelet was fabulous, as was the spuds deluxe. Another awesome thing about this place is the different varieties of bread you can get for your toast; I wound up w/awhole-wheat nutty dill bread that was out of this world!) Food is good & creative but service by some of the waitress regulars is appalling. I've been a customer for 30 yrs but have seen & heard enough... The Eileen/ Wanda team pretty much rule the roost when they are present, bullying customers and other waitstaff alike. When waitress Eileen happened to be questioned why I was charged $2.95 for a refill mug of coffee - a stream of angry invective was the response along with assertions that I "wasn't going to get coffee for free" like another (capable) waitress had supposedly provided on another occasion. "Yeah!" crowed in sidekick Wanda. In & of itself this is not a big deal but the cumlative picture is that these staff folk abuse customers and their colleagues alike on a daily basis. Serving customers is obviously the farthest thing from their minds... tolerating and getting thru the day at customers' expense is actually the priority. Trust me, from what I've seen, the feeling on the part of many customers is mutual. The worst part is that owner/ manager Dave Heffley is fully aware of this situation... When asked, he responded "Eileen is loud, rude, and Italian - so what else is new??" What's new is my business (worth a few hundred $'s a year anyway) and that of many others is going elsewhere. My sole regret is that the other good people working in this establishment need to endure the daily abuse from these bad apples.
