I always forget about this place but glad I remembered again yesterday. The prices and specials are always great and the service is SO FRIENDLY. They are super attentive without being overbearing and the whole staff is so nice. The food is good and the place itself is so cozy. On a personal note, they really stepped up when our dog had a moment, wiggled out of her collar and almost pulled over an entire table. Every staff member came to my rescue to help and assured me it was ok. I was super embarrassed and frazzled but the staff again stepped up and took care of not just the dog, but me as well. I hated this place. The one star is for the food, which was good, my BLT was delicious - but just try to get the waitress over to take your order. When I asked her if I could have a separate check so as not to get involved in a giant bill, she gave me all sorts of attitude about how she'd "f*ck it up". Nice. Bad logo, bad decor . . . Serendipity--I was on my way to a dinner appointment on Lincoln, approaching from the west on the residential streets so as to find free street parking. I happened to notice this spot and remembered it later when we were looking for a bar with outdoor seating. It was a great choice! I have an idea that the sidewalk seating waters down the character of this place; in winter it probably comes close to being an old man bar, or at least a really great neighborhood place. But that's all to the good, and I want to come back to find out. It's like a Northwoods lodge in there, with pool and darts. It's like "a bar for all seasons." Plus, they have some interesting beers that I never see on draft, such as Domaine DuPage. On special in April are New Belgium Mighty Arrow pints for $4. read more

Best chicken wings and chicken tenders in the city. The best part about the wings is that they taste like a classic hot wing and not crapped up by a place trying to put their own unique spin to differentiate. The wings stand out because they don't try to stand out. The wings are cooked perfectly, deep fried but not breaded. The chicken tenders remind my girlfriend of her childhood, crispy, yet not oily. The Thursday night shrimp taco is the best taco I've ever had to boot. The staff are super friendly and welcoming and they have a revolving beer list so you can keep coming back to try great beers to wash them wings down. Stopped in on a Friday night for dinner. The vibe is a little retro. They were playing Carl Perkins, etc. and overall, it felt very homey. It was reasonably full, and we were able to grab a seat at the bar. The bar service was friendly and attentive. I ordered the burger, which met my bar food expectations. It came with a large side of fries that hit the spot. We also got a very large chicken tenders appetizer. Go for the small portion if you're getting an appetizer. Four Moon is a bar that does every bar thing well. Good beer selection? Check. Superior food compared to other bars? Check. Pool table? Check. Excellent jukebox? Check. Cool back room with dim lighting and candles? Check. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with wing sauce and it was really good. Not greasy at all. The fries were burned, but we finished them anyway. Then we ordered more. The second round were much better. We also ordered the nachos as an appetizer and they were pretty darn good. I'd happily go back to Four Moon. LOVE. I love this spot. Yes, it's somewhat divey (not too much, but a bit), but the food is excellent, the service is top notch and it's so cute and cozy for a relaxed dinner. I have to say that while I've had burgers here, I think that the chicken sandwich is wonderful. I don't know what they do to it, but it's delicious and juicy and that bun - wow!! Great beer specials and the wine is pretty good considering I would put this in the 'beer drinkers bar' category. Look for the charming outdoor seating area, white christmas lights, and their retro moon sign. Finally checked this place out after hearing good comments from beer-enthusiast friends about their menu and beer list. I agree, they have a nice beer list and a great comfort food menu too. My date was in heaven - meatloaf sandwich, bratwurst dinner plate AND sloppy joe!? How is a man supposed to choose?!?! He went with the bratwurst dinner (two diff. kinds o'brats + kraut + potatoes); I went with a most delicious chicken gyro + sweet potato fries - this gyro was heaped with enough filling for two (lots of crisp lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, great cucumber sauce and flavorful chicken pieces), and served with a giant mound of nice big sweet potato fries to go with it. Everything tasted great, and service was prompt and friendly. We took note of their awesome-sounding nightly dinner specials, and we plan to be back (hopefully soon!) read more

A great neighborhood bar with an excellent list of craft beers on tap, bottle, and cans. Worry not though if you are the type person that gripes at the price of craft small batch brews, then you can take advantage of the can of Hamms or Strohs for $2.50. Schlitz in a bottle is a dollar more. The food is better then I expected and they have a great menu with daily beer and food specials. I don't really know how this place gets later in the evening because I always go earlier in the night so I give this place the thumbs up as a great starter bar for a bite and some booze before the night really gets going. read more

I'm pretty old. Twelve or fifteen or even twenty years ago I'd have been a bunch more enthused about spending too many hours at a place like Four Moon. But we don't really go out drinking any more. Still, I can appreciate from a Sunday evening dinner there that it looks like a great lowlit, timeless barroom, with good music on the sound system, loads of neighborhood tavern atmosphere, and friendly good times. Hell, if I were going there to drink, I could see it being a five-star kind of place. But we were staying in the neighborhood and read up on neighborhood places to have a somewhat late casual meal, and the reviews of Four Moon Tavern suggested that it had really good pub food as well. On that score, Four Moon was pretty damn disappointing. In fact, the meatloaf sandwich I ordered was one of the least appetizing things I've had in a restaurant in a while: It was more meat-mush or meat-paste than meatloaf, squishing out of the bun when you tried to chomp through it. Just a complete mess. And almost flavorless. Wife's chili was OK, but overly sugary. Brother-in-law ordered a burger, and that item looked big and worthwhile. Handcut fries looked better than they tasted, i.e., warmed over for too long. Decent beer selection, and on the night we were there, efficient if rather grumpy service. Four to five stars for the barroom. But closer to two for our food on this night. That's not all that great an average. read more

They love me here, and I love them back! Dogs are welcome on the patio, and the friendly servers brought me my own water bowl and a sweet potato fry as a special treat. This was my first stop when I came to town for the weekend to visit a friend, it was very laid back and we brought an uno deck as we drank and snacked on our food. I live very close to this place and I love it. The staff are very friendly, always making conversation. They even remember you after you've been in once or twice. The beer selection is massive and they have some killer food. For dinner you can't go wrong with the fish or the grilled cheese. Breakfast is a real treat. They had some of the best biscuits and gravy I've had. Top em of with fried eggs , known as the Harold, and your in breakfast heaven. I definitely recommend this place. The place is gyspy-like and cramped but from outside it look inviting and warm. If you notice sometime the apartment above the bars little balcony is tipping over and looks like it will give way any moment. Consistent Roscoe bar/restaurant that has great food. Went again recently and sat outside. Definitely felt safe from observing the cleaning practices. Hostess and waiter were friendly and ensured we had what we need. I had the crab cake appetizer which was great for dinner. My husband had the fish and chips which was excellent- tender fish and wonderful fries. Lots of options for drinks. Have had burgers before and have been great. I went here on a "technical" first date with someone and actually wasn't really focused on the place but I really liked the warm decor. It reminded me of a lodge I spent a lot of time at as a child...and there is a very sexy little back room, past the bathrooms that I didn't notice until I was leaving, thank god... Server was very attentive though not intrusive and the beverage selection was pretty wide ranging with the exception of the wine list. The beer selection could rival any bar in the North Side of Chicago, and the food was comforting. I'm so stoked I found this gem, I can once again be reminded of the oddly comforting moment of not knowing what to eat and having the ability to go to a "safe go-to." Fair Warning: If you're looking for something trendy and hot, like a flash in the pan, go else where. This is my happy place. I come here to satisfy my craving of grilled cheese and tomato soup. The bread they use is KEY. Perfect crunch factor. And that cheese! Gooey you guys. It's always so perfectly gooey. Anyways I've come here a lot with blinders on to anything that isn't grilled cheese, but recently I tried their fish sandwich and my life has forever changed. Between the down to earth, "known you for years" staff, awesome comfort food, and cheap beer...this is a great place to become a "local". At this cozy spot you can relax at a table outside, post up at the bar (like we usually did), or play some pool. The back room is more intimate with tables and a couch and makes for a great date night. I've eaten here a number of times & have tried the quesadilla, marinated chicken gyros sandwich, nachos, char-grilled burger, beer battered fish and chips, classic homemade sloppy Joe, the big salad and their pirogues. While all these selections did not disappoint, my ultimate favorite meal at Four Moons is their Meatloaf Sandwich. This perfected home cooked meatloaf is served on either a roll or toast (your choice) with lettuce, tomato, mayo & fries and oh man... is it out of this world! They also serve brunch on Sundays and although I've never been, but I've heard it's quite spectacular (and probably the perfect hangover cure!). Of course I don't just venture on over to this local tavern for food, we make sure to quench our thirst as well when we're here. They have a full bar along with 11 beers on tap, 41 bottles and 14 different cans. Now that's a selection! Looking to nail down your go-to "spot" on the north side? This is my favorite bar, and my greatest sadness is that I can't go here all the time. The beer is great. The food is even better. Yes, a kinda divey bar with awesome, AWESOME, food. There are few better low-key saturday night date ideas than Four Moon for some drinks and a delicious blackened fish sandwich. Also fish and chips. And, surprisingly, the gyro. And the nachos!
