Strawberry Limon Agua Fresca, Carne Asada, Pollo Asada
    Daejah A.

Fresh ingredients, generous portions, and amazing customer service. The hardest part was choosing an Agua Fresca because all of the options sounded so good. I love that they let you sample the flavors. I ended up going with the Strawberry Limon cause it was just the right amount of sweet/tartness. For the tacos, I got carne asada and pollo asado. Both of which had amazing flavor and cooked to perfection. This place is a true gem in Escondido. A new favorite taco spot for me!

I had Frida's on my list for a while and finally made the trip out to Escondido. Frida's Taqueria serves up TJ style tacos, burritos, mulitas, quesadilla, fries, tortas and many more. For my first time visit, I always order the al pastor and carne asada. Both were delicious, with a 2 fresh corn tortillas for each taco with a good amount of meat, onions and cilantro, salsa and guacamole. Each taco was packed with flavor with all the juices dripping out with each bite. I was very happy with their al pastor as well as the carne asada. I highly recommend both selections. Happy to see another TJ style taco in Escondido. Frida's is a well run operation where you order inside and pick up your meal by giving your receipt to the taco assemblers. Plenty of seating in the patio as well as inside. The only downside is the parking as Frida's does not have their own dedicated parking lot. You will have to circle the block to find street parking.

Tldr; TJ Taco across the street still reigns supreme. I can't help but draw comparisons as I tried Frida's just to determine if it's better than my favorite taco shop. I found Frida to be not as good in quality of their corn tortillas and their meats. Tons of meat per each taco, but still pretty pricey at almost $4 a piece. It's good, don't get me wrong, just not as good. The single line to order your items also makes for slower service. The outdoor seating area was too smokey to be comfortable, we all ended up smelling like a campfire by the time we left.

Authentic, amazing tacos that came highly recommended by locals. The quesabirria taco was juicy, flavorful and recommended by staff. The smell when you walk in is intoxicating. Friendly and helpful staff and some of the best Esco offers. Park in the back and there's always a spot. We scored no line at 11:30, there was a wait by the time we left.

I visited this location late afternoon on a weekend. They don't have a parking lot but there was street parking in the back. There was not wait, and actually nobody other than our party in the restaurant (there's another taco spot across the street that was much much busier). This location does weekday taco deals so I assume it's much busier on those days. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Ordering is done inside, and the tacos are prepared outside (the sauces are inside though). Our group tried this spot as part of taco crawl, so I just tried a carne asada and adobada (al pastor) as staple items. Unfortunately, I was fairly disappointed in both since they were kinda dry in an overcooked way. There was gauc on the tacos as well, but it didn't taste like anything. This is one of few taco spots includes complimentary grilled veg. Overall, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. They do offer a catering service!

Ximana gaves us amazing service and made wonderful suggestions on what we should order. It's a cool concept. You order inside and take your ticket outside, talk to the chef and get your food. Tacos and burritos were absolutely amazing.

They have several locations in North County. If you enter from the back, you will see an outdoor, shaded patio with cooks preparing the food. I saw people waiting in line so I thought that was the line to order but you actually order inside, then they will give you a receipt, then you go back outside to give the cook your receipt order. Maybe a sign saying this would be helpful because several people did not know where to order. They serve tacos, burritos, quesadillas, fresh juices & more. I went for Taco Tuesday where they have deals all day! I ordered Carne Asada Taco, Birria Quesataco & Chicharron Taco. The tacos were just okay & unfortunately, the Chicharron looked like a glob of straight up fat that I lost my appetite.

We've been to Frida's three now and each time has been amazing and I think is our new go to spot when we're in the area!! Notable standouts are the quesatacos and campanchana fries with carne asada and adobada. I can't wait until my next trip because there's so many other items I want to try!! The service is always friendly and helpful and we really enjoy the vibes!

FRIDA's TAQUERIA @ Escondido This place was so incredible, every single experience for me from food, service, and ambiance was OUTSTANDING! My best friend and I decided to stop by here, parking is available for street and there's a plenty. We came here on a Tuesday, and the have $1.99 tacos each instead of the original price of $3.49. You have to go inside first to order, and then go outside to get your tacos. We got 4 adobada tacos, and a horchata and strawberry milk. The horchata wasn't my favorite (my friend ordered that one) and it was a bit bland. However, I was OBSESSED with how good the strawberry milk was, the lady allowed me to have a sample and it was so fresh, had strawberry bits, and was such a delicious sweet drink. It can be a bit sweet, but i personally really loved it, and it balanced well with the ice. Tacos took a bit long because it was busy. Once the tacos arrived, we then went to the side bar that had all sorts of sauces, limes, and containers for us to even put it in. I really loved how easy and organized everything was. The tacos were juicy, and they were not skimpy with the meat and the avocado! Overall, I would highly recommend stopping by this place, the ambiance was clean, and everything was just an incredible experience!

Can't understand why 4 stars, these tacos are the best I've ever had. Great service and ambience. Don't miss out, beyond good food and the drinks are out of the park.

Even other taco places, like Frida's, are much more accommodating. Overall, the food did not justify the price, and the customer service left a lot to be desired. The first time I visited a few weeks ago, I had a really positive experience. The location was a little hard for me to find, but once I got there, it seemed worth it. I walked in craving a breakfast burrito and was helped by a very nice, slender gentleman at the counter. I asked for a ham, bacon, and sausage breakfast burrito and also requested that it be cut in half. He was friendly, said no problem, and within minutes I had exactly what I ordered. That burrito was delicious. The salsa station was stocked and convenient with self-serve cups readily available, and the atmosphere was nice. The people around me were friendly, and one gentleman even mentioned this was the place that used to be near Peterson's Donuts. Overall, it was a great first impression and I left happy, already planning to come back. Fast forward to today, Saturday, April 25, 2026 around 10:30 AM, and unfortunately, my second experience was the complete opposite. This time there was a young woman working the register, and from the moment I approached, she didn't seem very welcoming. I told her I wanted to order a breakfast burrito but wasn't sure what kind I wanted today. She told me the only options were bacon, egg, cheese and tater tots, or egg and cheese. I politely asked if I could add ham and sausage and pay extra, since that's what I had ordered before. She immediately responded that they "didn't have that type of breakfast burrito." That response confused me because I had literally ordered one there before. I wasn't going to argue, especially because her tone and attitude made me feel like I was bothering her just by asking questions. I then asked if the burrito could be cut in half and never really got a clear response. I also noticed the salsa station no longer had the little self-serve cups available, so I had to ask for those too. The same cashier asked how many I needed, and I said two. A few minutes later, another woman called my name and handed me the burrito. I sat down and realized it wasn't cut in half like I requested. At that point, I had to go back up and ask for a plastic knife and fork just to cut it myself. Which was not a problem or issue for me. I ate half of the burrito, but honestly, it wasn't nearly as good as the first one. The taste was underwhelming, and by the time I left I was just so disappointed. I ended up throwing the other half away after I left. Consistency matters, especially when the first experience set the bar high. The food was great the first time, but the service and quality were lacking the second time around. My honest opinion: if someone is having a bad day, they probably shouldn't be the first face customers interact with at the register. I may update this review depending on how management responds, because I know this place can do better based on my first visit.

I ordered a #1 combo (shredded beef taco, cheese, enchilada, beans/rice) for myself, and two shredded beef tacos à la carte for Mom, to eat at home a half mile away. Upon opening, the combo looked good, although the tiny smattering of pico on the taco and particularly the super skimpy portions of both beans and rice immediately stood out - a real bummer as I REALLY love Mexican beans and rice. So presentation was quite disappointing. Then, the second I picked up the taco, it was apparent it didn't survive the trip, having completely disintegrated on the bottom. This appeared to be from using a thinner than usual tortilla to make the taco, which was then set directly in a puddle of unusually watery enchilada sauce. So that was strike 2. As for the cheese enchilada, there was so little cheese had I not known what I was eating I wouldn't have been able to tell you. In addition, it was swimming in the same watery enchilada sauce that caused the demise of the taco. As for the à la carte beef tacos, mom reported they were good. So at least she was happy (Whew! Thank goodness!). The good news is, the food all tasted good, with the issues all relating to quantity and plating, not quality or taste. So despite the low rating, I'll be back at least once more to give them another go, if only because it's so conveniently close to home. Fingers crossed...

We ordered a standard fish taco, as well as octopus, marlin, and smoked tuna tacos, along with a sampler of the aguachile. We ordered the verde, mango, and tres chiles. Pros: - Friendly service; our waitress gave us some great recommendations as we were overwhelmed by the huge menu. - The tacos were fantastic. The tortillas were lightly griddled and not too thick. The octopus and fish tacos were very well-seasoned and flavorful. The marlin taco was a standout--it was lightly spicy, smoky, and well balanced with minced carrots and celery. - Decent portions, especially the aguachile. Each sampler dish had ~4-6 shrimps. My favorites were the verde (spicy salsa verde) and tres chiles (tasted like a limey, spicy chipotle salsa) Cons: - I was not a fan of the mango aguachile and would not order it again. I thought it would be a standard aguachile sauce with some fresh mango chunks, but it turned out to be shrimp marinated in this overly sweet, gloopy mango sauce that tasted like a melted mango popsicle. If you are sensitive to spice, I would make sure to check in with your waiter before ordering anything. I thought I had a medium spice tolerance but found myself huffing and puffing like a chud after eating the aguachile, lol. All in all, would visit again if I was in the neighborhood!
