Damn this food is delicious with large portions. This meat is cooked over wood coals & you can taste the difference! I love their red salsa they put on their tacos but woo wee! it is spicy!! One last thing, they make all their tortillas and they toast some of the corn tortillas. I love a good carne asada tostada! Try this, order your carne asada tacos but when you get to the window where they prep your food, ask them to make 1 like a tostada. Thank me later! read more

Holy guacamole the portions here are big! The Horchata was massive and super sweet, which was actually perfect to cut through the savory saltiness of the food. Nachos Al Pastor were tasty and the meat was very flavorful. My boyfriend got the tacos and said his only con was too much guac (though that doesn't seem like a con to me personally). I loved the setup of this place -- you order inside and can customize your tacos outside. Just be warned that if you eat outside, your clothes will smell smoky after. read more

Out of the chain of locations I've visited being in san marcos and vista, I didn't receive as good and quick of service here as I did in other locations. When I went to the other ones, they quickly finished everything and the juice tasted really fresh but I felt like the quality of food and time spent making it at this location didn't exactly match. I had Frida's on my list for a while and finally made the trip out to Escondido. Frida's Taqueria serves up TJ style tacos, burritos, mulitas, quesadilla, fries, tortas and many more. For my first time visit, I always order the al pastor and carne asada. Both were delicious, with a 2 fresh corn tortillas for each taco with a good amount of meat, onions and cilantro, salsa and guacamole. Each taco was packed with flavor with all the juices dripping out with each bite. I was very happy with their al pastor as well as the carne asada. I highly recommend both selections. Happy to see another TJ style taco in Escondido. Frida's is a well run operation where you order inside and pick up your meal by giving your receipt to the taco assemblers. Plenty of seating in the patio as well as inside. The only downside is the parking as Frida's does not have their own dedicated parking lot. I don't recommend that you trust this business with your catering needs. I called a total of 12 times over the course of four days. Was only able to reach them twice. They sent me a text message saying they would send party tray info then never sent it, and they didn't respond to any of my follow up messages. In my last call, I said I'd call back later that day to confirm they said okay. They never answered the phone or responded to a text again after that. Tldr; TJ Taco across the street still reigns supreme. I can't help but draw comparisons as I tried Frida's just to determine if it's better than my favorite taco shop. I found Frida to be not as good in quality of their corn tortillas and their meats. Tons of meat per each taco, but still pretty pricey at almost $4 a piece. It's good, don't get me wrong, just not as good. The single line to order your items also makes for slower service. The outdoor seating area was too smokey to be comfortable, we all ended up smelling like a campfire by the time we left. read more

I visited this location late afternoon on a weekend. They don't have a parking lot but there was street parking in the back. There was not wait, and actually nobody other than our party in the restaurant (there's another taco spot across the street that was much much busier). This location does weekday taco deals so I assume it's much busier on those days. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Ordering is done inside, and the tacos are prepared outside (the sauces are inside though). Our group tried this spot as part of taco crawl, so I just tried a carne asada and adobada (al pastor) as staple items. Unfortunately, I was fairly disappointed in both since they were kinda dry in an overcooked way. There was gauc on the tacos as well, but it didn't taste like anything. They have several locations in North County. If you enter from the back, you will see an outdoor, shaded patio with cooks preparing the food. I saw people waiting in line so I thought that was the line to order but you actually order inside, then they will give you a receipt, then you go back outside to give the cook your receipt order. Maybe a sign saying this would be helpful because several people did not know where to order. They serve tacos, burritos, quesadillas, fresh juices & more. My best friend and I decided to stop by here, parking is available for street and there's a plenty. We came here on a Tuesday, and the have $1.99 tacos each instead of the original price of $3.49. You have to go inside first to order, and then go outside to get your tacos. We got 4 adobada tacos, and a horchata and strawberry milk. The horchata wasn't my favorite (my friend ordered that one) and it was a bit bland. However, I was OBSESSED with how good the strawberry milk was, the lady allowed me to have a sample and it was so fresh, had strawberry bits, and was such a delicious sweet drink. It can be a bit sweet, but i personally really loved it, and it balanced well with the ice. Tacos took a bit long because it was busy. Once the tacos arrived, we then went to the side bar that had all sorts of sauces, limes, and containers for us to even put it in. I really loved how easy and organized everything was. The tacos were juicy, and they were not skimpy with the meat and the avocado! Customer service is no good here, super cramped at entry, and the establishment was recently ordered by the health department to close down due to vermin infestation. This review is for the spot Poway Farmers Market. Love the tacos but have stopped eating here on Saturday morning. They are the only food vendor not ready to serve food on time. They quote you 2 or 5 minutes until tacos are ready never that as they are still setting up. This is not a one time event this is everytime we have tried to have breakfast here. Definitely a great experience here! I've always wanted to try this establishment ever since I saw it in Vista. If you're familiar with certain Mexican establishments like Tacos el Gordo or TJ's Tacos, the set-up is pretty much the same where you need to give your receipt to the chef/kitchen to pick up your order. My husband & I ordered the Birria fries, Birria burrito and the mango agua frescas. We were so torn with their drink assortments because we love the drinks! The cashier was nice enough to give us samples of two different mango drinks, which helped our decision so much more. We had the chance to sit outside in the back to enjoy the sunny weather. When you look around, it's set up with a nice tent with fairy lights hanging, with another kitchen area set up in the back for outdoor events I assume? It was cool seeing the ambiance that way. Food rating: Birria fries - 10/10. The Birria soaks up the flavor of the fries sooo much and it was not soggy when consumed fresh. It was probably my favorite Birria fries by far. Birria burrito - 3/10. Probably not the best decision to get a Birria burrito as well since it was so heavy. Finally visited this place we've heard so much about. Outside seating and smells wonderful! Nice decor inside and outside. Order inside, select a drink from a variety of Aqua Fresca and head outside to the cook. Show them Your ticket and wait for your food. Food was so GOOD! My family and I first had Frida's at the Poway Farmer's market. The people working at the PFM are always so sweet and helpful. I have visited the Escondido location as well. My go tos are their mulitas and their passion mango agua fresca. The cabeza I order for the mulita is so tender and flavorful and delicious - an example of simple ingredients and flavors coming together for epic-ness. The agua fresca is so refreshing and comes in a good sized cup (my family and I always order our own bc we can't share an agua fresca!). We'll always keep coming back to Frida's, we love this place so so much! read more

Walked in around 11 and it was pretty dead. Couple of customers finishing their meals. I get to the counter and I'm greeted by younger girl who quite clearly has no sense of what customer service is and doesn't want to be there. I place my order and she says, in a very soft spoken voice barely audible over the loud music, something about my ticket and the food window. I assumed she meant they'd call my number. So I walk over to the salsa bar and grab a couple things and she grabs the ticket off my table and says in the most dismissive way possible, "I said you have to take it to the cook to make your food." Who does this? You know they make ticketing systems that will print the order automatically for the chefs? Or does that make too much sense? I proceed to the cooks counter ticket in hand and he starts making my food. A short while lady another patron, just as confused as I am by the lack of class and explanation from the girl at the counter, attempts to get her food without her ticket. And the poor cook in broken English is trying to explain it to her. Probably not the best system, Fridas. Anyway so I get my food and he made me Carne asada fries when I wanted Al Pastor fries from that gigantic trompo in the window. He says I'm sorry, and points at the ticket which says clear as day, "Carne Asada". Mrs. Nonchelance at the front counter strikes again. I'll take some blame for this one too because I should have double checked my ticket. So I sit down to eat and the fries are pale, soft, and lack flavor. The Carne Asada was dry and charred to hell. The generic salsas do very little to salvage the situation. The Carne Asada Quesa taco doesn't do any better. Maybe a slight tick above Albertos but not much. Not to mention this whole meal cost me over $30 dollars. Tl;dr: Bad service, mediocre food, frustrating process. Go to TJ tacos a couple blocks down. It's a shame they call this place Frida's, because there is zero art. read more

I would say if it's your first time the process of ordering and receiving your order could be confusing. Defiantly ask about that process or you could be waiting for a long time. There is plenty of seating indoors and outside as well but parking seems to be limited on busier days/times. The food is amazing. I would order to your taste because everything I've had has always been delicious. I often fight myself deciding whether or not I like TJ tacos more and my friends seem divided on which is better as well. This is my current favorite mexican food in North County. This is a Tijuana style Taco bar which is open until midnight. Their food is not the best but still gives you the vibrancy of an open air restaurant with some live counters prepping up tacos. Easy 10 stars for me. Our party tried three aguas frescas (pepino y limon, leche de mango, and watermelon). All 10/10 The tres leches is the best I've ever had. It was soaking wet. I believe it's supplied by a local home baker? Not sure though. Hats off to them. We had adobada nachos, and the adobada was flavorful and tender, no gristle anywhere. The nachos have both shredded cheese and NACHO cheese, which I usually only see in more American style restaurants. Hats off to alllllll the cheese on our nachos. We also got carnitas mulitas for someone with a cilantro allergy, and they kept all the cilantro off, which never happens at any restaurant we've been to. They usually end up putting MORE on Both indoor and outdoor seating have a really cool vibe to them. I have been trying to try Frida for a while and since I was at the Escondido library with a friend and it was both lunch time and Taco Tuesday, I proposed to her to go there. The mural of Frida outside is spectacular and the design is cool. The patio in the back is great but the music is extremely loud and impossible to hold a conversation. The line was long, after all $1.99 each taco seems pretty cheap these days. Tacos were well presented and abundant avocado but...they were pretty much tasteless and the quality of the meat was not great. Not the best tacos I have had, just regular in a nice environment (except for the loud music). I also had the mango guava drink and left it intact, it was so sweet I would not tolerate the amount of sugar and chunky pieces. Do not recommend that drink. read more

Heard really good reviews about this place so I definitely wanted to try it. It's well organized, ordering up front and food pick up in the back. You tell the cooks how you want your meal, salsa/ no salsa, guac/no guac etc. I had the quesotacos- 1 asada and 1 pastor. The tacos are a good size for the price point. The asada was ok in taste, the pastor was better. Horchata had a good flavor to it, so definitely recommend. Even though they had seating indoor and out the place was packed so seating was limited.
