I pay online and came to pick up my rental .. the lady at front was very rude, she told us that had to wait till 5pm or we had to pay extra $45 if we wanted the car so it was 30min till 5pm .. so I ask her how much was gonna be the deposit and she ask me I need to have a credit card.. and I said I don't have credit only debit .. she said no , I ask her if I can pay cash or check and she said neither 1 so I was so upset ,, so had to cancel my rental .. they will lose clients a lot .. very bad service read more

These people are thieves. Every time I rented a car from them, they tack on extra charges, like late fees. This last incident, I declined insurance, they asked for my insurance information, and then proceeded to charge for insurance I did not ask for. When I confronted them about it, they offered to give me half my money back. That indicates to me they know there is an issue out there, but don't care to fix it. Very disappointed in this company!! I booked a car and paid $400 for my rental. As I was checking out on-line there was no warning that I had to have a credit card to pick up the car. I did not have a credit card and so therefore was not allowed to pick up my rental car. I was left stranded alone with Five children looking for a new rental car in Hobby Airport, in Houston, Texas for many hours. If that was not bad enough, when I tried to call and cancel that day no phones were in service and continued to have this issue until I came back from my trip. I know it's rare but... After being let down by our original reservation with another big name car rental company who changed the location of our car pick up last minute (the day before our travel) my hubby had to scramble and book another car from another rental place.. FOX came through. We took the shuttle from the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to the car rental location. As we were making our way towards where the Fox counter was we were already dreading the long line that was formed in a snake line. When we got there, Yay! the long line was for Payless! There were 3 companies that shared the counter. I forgot what the other company was but Fox only had 1 customer ahead of us and there were two attendants behind the counter so we were immediately assisted by the second attendant. This was around 10:00p on a busy Friday night. Anyway, we were able to get our reserved car. No hassles, no pressure on up sells, no hidden charges and service was friendly. They do require a $150 deposit refunded upon return of the car. 3 days with unlimited miles $81.29. Pick up and return from the car lot was easy as well. The car ran well and was a gas saver (first time driving a Toyota Prius). This isn't our first time renting with Fox but it is here in Phoenix location and we had a good experience with Fox this time. Review #0606 read more

On December 2, 2020 I booked my Fox Car Rental through Booking.com at the Phoenix Sky Harbor location. I was driving back to California to attend my mom's memorial service. She sadly passed due to complications from Covid19. I presented my credit card and id at the counter to rent the vehicle. My rental was declined because Fox added a very high deposit. The deposit at the counter was MUCH higher than Booking.com stated. I was so EMBARRASSED and inconsolable, I was already distraught over my mom's passing, and now being left stranded and unable to attend my mom's memorial service. What a heartless rental car company! I am so thankful for Payless Rental, they provided me with an even better rental and the reservation deposit was 1/2 of what Fox placed on my card. Thank you Payless for the respectful and compassionate customer service. I have used Fox many times in the past. This experience will be difficult for me to forget. RESPONSE TO FOX RENTAL: Thank you for your response. Unfortunately your company's lack of empathy is further supported by your misunderstanding the customer's core issue and suggesting my lack of understanding of the car rental process. The root cause of this issue as clearly stated, is the disconnect between the Fox deposit requirements reported at time of booking, and what I was asked to pay when I arrived at the counter. I called Booking.com after your agent asked for a different deposit amount than contracted, and they too acknowledged the discrepancy. So inefficient, we stood in line for 2 hours - longer than our flight here. Absolutely terrible service.

Luckily, when we showed up at the counter after our flight into PHX (around 12 noon) there was absolutely no line! We were able to walk right up to the counter. After that, it was all down hill :-/ The agent that helped us was nice and friendly, but she was having an extremely difficult time getting our reserved car (Dodge Charger) from the staff working out in the garage. She had to call out to them at least three times asking if they had the car we reserved. They kept coming back to her, telling her they didn't have any left, even tried to pass other cars off to us. I have to hand it to our agent, she didn't back down, and did get us the car that we reserved. Not sure if that deserves kudos since we did have a reservation...made at least 6-8 months in advance. The car we reserved was pretty used. It was a 2017 with over 70,000 miles on it! We've never rented a car with that many miles before. Also it had numerous yellow paint scratches, on a black car, and a few minor dents. The worst part was the low profile front end. It must have been parked too close to the curb too many times as the front end was loose underneath and flapping in the freeway wind. If our destination wasn't over two hours away, we may have taken it back...although with the hassle we were given to get it, we weren't sure what they would have replaced it with. The other issue I have is the fact that they charge you for the deposit and entire rental up front. We travel quite often and normally we see a hold on our credit card for the deposit, which is released later, not ran as a 'sale', and we pay for the rental when we return it. This was ALL ran as a sale and was processed before we returned the car. Now that the car is returned, we have to wait 5-7 business days for our $150 deposit to be refunded :-/ That doesn't seem right. Overall, we had so many issues with this rental company, we will never rent from them again. I really wish I would have checked Yelp before making my reservation. Lesson learned! read more

Rarely do I leave posts but after my experience with Fox in Phoenix I have to warn others thinking of using them. First, the car air conditioner didn't work, which we realized after driving 2+ hours to Sedona in 100 degree heat. We returned to the location to exchange to car and experienced incredibly rude employees, lack of compassion and attempts to overcharge for the rental. A couple days ago I saw my credit card statement and they overcharged for the gas. my warning to you if you decide to use Fox is get EVERYTHING in writing, video recording the existing damage on the car, and lower your expectations as far as they will go. read more

They will tell you that it's cheaper to have them fill the tank upon return. Don't listen to those bastards! My mom noticed she was charged about $60 for gas (way more than the going rate in Phoenix valley). They also charge you if you drop your car off earlier. Was very hesitant given some of the horrible reviews here. However, I had a relatively good experience. Except for having Walter wait on me. He tried to upsell the crap out of me. I know it's his job but he was very annoying. I'd pass on him waiting on my again. I declined everything. I had booked through Orbitz. Long lines but they moved quickly and had as many as 5 agents at the desk. Make sure to get your return time Based on when you will actually be pulling away in the car vs the time you booked for or the time you are at the window. Otherwise, you'll get charged for extra hour. Would probably use again just for the value. Booked mid-sized car and got KIA optima. read more

We reserved a car with Fox car rental. We arrived 3/7/2019 at noon after an hour and 20 minutes flight. We had 21 month old twins, two car seats, 3 bags, one double stroller and three adults and the line was out to the curb. We could not have waited 90 minutes to get a car so we went to the Dollar Rent-a-Car counter and walked out 10 minutes later with a beautiful minivan. We called to cancel the reservation, expecting to lose our deposit, but they charged us for the entire rental. Had I read the reviews prior to renting with his company I would not have. We were prepared to lose the deposit, but feel it was unfair that they charged us the entire cost of the rental. It was our first time traveling with the twins and it was challenging. Very disappointed in their customer service and understanding towards families traveling with children. read more

This was the worst experience renting a car I've had in a long time. From the moment I stepped in line to starting the car, it took over an hour and a half. The line to the counter was over 20 deep, with only two agents working, which was ridiculous. Once at the desk, the agent, though polite was clearly stressed by I'm sure a long line bitching about the wait. Plus their process was very slow too. Once I got through the line and got to the garage, the car wasn't ready. They told me it needed to be refueled. How long did that take? Well over 20 minutes. Another wait. Plus once I got the car the interior smelled like cat piss. But of course I just dealt with it rather than wait yet again for another car. This company does not know how to manage their customers for shit, nor do the care, because reading the other reviews (wish I had done this first) they know there is a problem but haven't taken any steps to correct it. They probably don't care about the overstressed employees either. Pay a few bucks more and spare yourself long lines, slow and laxidasical service and agravating waits, unless all you care about is rental cost. Nope. Never again. I waited over 90 minutes before I was in a car. The car's heat wasn't working, but they did switch me without much hassle. During pick up, they make you sign for the car BEFORE you are even handed the keys and are allowed to inspect it. If there is a problem, you have to walk back and address it and explain to the other annoyed customers in line that you're not cutting, just trying to finish checking out your car. At the end of my rental, I returned the car and was charged $20 extra for an "early return". When I rented, I asked about that and guy said not to worry about it since I was only renting for one day. Yet, I was still charged an extra $20 when I returned it. My reservation was $54.12 WITH taxes and fees per my confirmation. yet I was just emailed a receipt for $204.12 plus an additional $20 fee. Including $7.99/gallon for gas totaling $132.63 for a car I returned full! So much for them having good prices. I just paid $224.12 for 1 day rental of a mid size (non-luxury) SUV. And I did NOT purchase any of their add-ons...my bill is $224.12 because of gas (although I filled the car), "taxes and fees" despite Orbitz confirming taxes, fees and rental rate at $54.12, and an "early return" fee/penalty on a 1 day rental. The billing department is closed until Monday, but based on the reviews I'm seeing here, I don't expect to get much customer service satisfaction out of trying to clear this up. :-( read more

Due to a flight delay, I was 3 hours late, and they upped my rate by 50%, and wouldn't honor my original reservation and price, even though their alleged "3-hour grace period" was mentioned nowhere in the reservation process on Southwest.com". What a joke!!!! Standing in line with 50 + other customers who are all furious. I understand a bit of a wait, but an hour+ for a pre-paid, non-refundable reservation is unreal! Contemplating paying the full fee and canceling while I stand in line and type this. Fox will year it from me when I finally make it to the counter. I can't believe they are operating this way and I did not even think to check the Yelp reviews for a car rental company at an airport. Never again. If Fox takes the time to respond to this yelp I expect some sort of compensation and not just an empty apology. By the reviews of other Yelpers they have had MANY chances to fix this and don't care enough to do it. Update: After I made it to the front, 2.5 hours later, I was charged for an extra driver (I asked to have it comped for the inconvenience). When I was sent to the car pickup area the Jeep I had reserved for at 8:30 AM pickup was not ready. I had to wait ANOTHER half hour, staring at 4 perfectly good keeps on the parking lot. I finally got the keys to a vehicle at 11:30 AM. I also emailed corporate and all the told me was they would FWD my complaint to the store manager. I waited a full hour in a line that wasn't that long. It seemed like every representative was taking 10 minutes with each customer. They were super pushy about insurance and upselling me, in a way I've never received from other rental places. When I needed to extend my car reservation, I called to talk to a customer service representative. I was told in very certain terms that THIS FOX LOCATION WILL NOT EXTEND YOUR RESERVATION OVER THE PHONE, under any circumstance. This policy is UNIQUE to the PHX airport branch. You can only extend your reservation in person. Overall this place gave me minimal service and a creepy used car salesman vibe. Avoid it as much as possible. The Fox manager in LA informed me that this is a policy unique to the PHX branch. Don't believe their response implying that this is the norm for car rentals in AZ in general. It's only logically true for Fox because PHX airport is the only car rental location they have in the state. Which adds to the inconvenience if you have any issues with your rental. read more

He told me to get my car from a space that wasn't there, he wanted me to sign for the keys before I inspected the car, told me to wait very rudely in front of other customers, and told me I better LEAVE which seemed to me like he was going to fight me when I complained about his behavior. I will never use this company again! I booked Fox last minute for a week in AZ. The advertised prices were slightly better than all the big chain guys at the airport. I reserved a full size SUV, only to given a minivan as my only comparable seating choice. The van had near 50k in miles no phone hookups. Was delivered filthy. Windshield cracks and some kind of film on the inside that was impossible to see thru when driving into the sun or oncoming headlights. Front tires nearly bald. ( didn't notice most of this stuff as I picked it up in a dim garage at night) The change oil light came on on the last day , just glad it made back to the airport, where I was met by .........no one. After waiting on hold for 15 mins in the parking garage by the fox return sign, a van full of non uniformed nor identified young people pull up and hop into 2 empty cars in the same location. I had to yell to get them to stay and asked if they were with fox , they said yes just leave the car you're all set. No check out no final charges mentioned, until I insisted on my final receipt only find out I WAS CHARGED AN EXTRA $20 BECAUSE I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK 2 hrs EARLY!!! Never again. read more

Renting here wasn't that bad. I know a lot of the previous reviews may seem a bit bad, but maybe they have improved(?). Anyways, my family and I rented a Hyundai Elantra (silver) 4 door automatic sedan for a few days during our visit to Arizona. I must say though after driving around in the city, there are several Elantra's! I'm so used to seeing Subaru's in Portland and BMW's/Lexus's in L.A. For a 5 day rental, we only paid about $240-ish (in cash). It was nice that the rental area was combined in the same building as all the other car rental companies and also had shuttles to bring you to Sky Harbor Airport. The rental counter is tucked in the middle of the rental car center with a small sign - we missed it so really look hard for it or you will miss it! They are meticulous when it comes to checking the car for damage so be sure to do a thorough walk around and note even the smallest dings and scratches before you leave the garage. I'm writing this review on behalf of my parents who had a terrible experience with Fox at this location in October. Ill make note that the staff was incredibly nice to them, but everything else was a sh*t show. I'll try to keep this short with the important points only. The line was about an hour+ even at like 10pm or 11pm. They had rented and pre-paid specifically for a minivan. When they get to the counter they realized that anyone who didn't pre-pay was out of luck and were being told they had no more cars for them. Wtf? (so PREPAY if you do book with this company...or just dont book with them) They are then told there are no minivans left for them, and instead were offered an SUV. Which for their trip plans and people would not have been comfortable. However, a group of 20-something year old young ladies next to them were being given a mini-van that THEY DIDN'T BOOK OR WANT. Seriously Fox?! How does this mismanagement happen? So after some back and forward, my parents finally managed to get that Mini-Van, while the girls got that SUV. They were very lucky to be next to eachother at the same time, otherwise I have no idea what they would've had to do. Never again. read more

Was looking for a rental car for a quick trip to Tucson and found a great deal on Expedia for this place. I was able to secure a full size rental for under $20 per day! I've had bad experiences with Fox Rental before, so I was expecting the worst. This time around, it wasn't too bad. When you arrive at the car rental facility, don't get confused and go down the escalator to the cars...you have to check-in at the counter on the main floor first. If you don't, they'll just send you back up and you'll waste a lot of time. I know this because there were several people in line at the counter who told me what happened to them and they were not very happy. Fox shares a counter with a couple of other rental car agencies, so look for that. Their line is the middle line. The worst part of this experience was the wait in this line....it was taking 10-15 minute per customer to get through. That's agonizingly slow. I understand....you get what you pay for....that's what I kept telling myself. Cheap car, cheap service. After a 45 min wait, I finally got through the line and then headed downstairs to pickup the car. When you get down there, you have to wait in line again and another person has to check you in to get your car. It's a ridiculous process in my opinion and highly inefficient. It's shocking that companies operate so inefficiently nowadays. The car wasn't too bad, it was a Chrysler 200 convertible and had about 40,000 miles on it....that's a bit long in the tooth for a car rental, but for under $20 a day, it was fine. Returning the car went well and there were no issues there. I'm rating them 3 Stars overall because the pricing is outstanding and despite the slow service, I understand that the price is cheap for a reason and I can't expect outstanding service when I'm paying pennies on the dollar for the car rental compared to the rental agencies with great service. Classic case of deal to good to be true. Booked a rental car months in advance and for My troubles I get an hour wait with 20 other disgruntled people waiting for slow workers. Keep in mind 5 people were checking out cars so things should be fast fast fast. Once I managed to get thru this part it took another 15 minutes to get a car once I found there spot downstairs. Terrible customer service... pretty much has become a scam at this point... Situation goes like this: rented a car in Tampa, had a toll we didnt pay and intended to pay later online. Turns out unbeknownst to us that there is a toll number that in our travels we misplaced so we have to go through Fox to obtain that number... well over the course of a month i have called in almost every day, spoken with no one helpful and been bumped around from department to department. Now they are fining me for unpaid tolls every month which im trying to pay but like ive said one must go through them to get the toll number... ive estimated in total ive say on hold for over 24 hours at this point.
