We came here to celebrate an early Mother's Day brunch, and it was such a fantastic experience! The mimosas were amazing, with a great selection of juices and the food was absolutely outstanding. Khin was our server she mentioned she was fairly new, but you wouldn't have known it. She was incredibly sweet, attentive, and took great care of our entire party. Thank you, Khin! We had a large group, and I really appreciated that they accommodated us inside since it was a bit chilly that day. They seated us in the front area, which we loved. Everything we ordered from the appetizers, to the main dishes was packed with flavor. Nothing missed the mark. Truly one of the best brunch experiences in town! I had the chilaquiles along with a champagne drink that came with different juice options and fresh fruit such an adorable and fun presentation. We walked by this place on our way to another restaurant that ended up having a 55-minute wait so we ended up coming back. We arrived at about 1:00-1:30 and the inside main dining area was already closed to patrons as staff prepared for the evening service. The host's tone did not encourage potential customers to dine there during the transition to dinner prep. Not a great first impression that gave off a late arrival so you'll get what's leftover vibe which was exacerbated by being forgotten for what seemed to be a half hour before our waitperson came to take our order. We chose to sit in the front sidewalk patio which was cold and windy not an alternate choice we will need to make again. We ended up sitting across from two loud, self-centered, immature, foul-mouthed college grad girls bragging about studying for their masters attempting to appear cultured were distracting everyone on that patio. After we placed our order, we finished up the app and hubbs was furious they forgot about his glass of pinot which arrived without an apology for the delay preceding our plate arrivals. I had the ny strip steak on the breakfast menu which came out perfectly med-well & added cilantro rice which was good although a little sticky not fluffy. Hubbs had the salmon which looked amazing and he enjoyed the mango sauce--the dish just didn't fill him up. Good thing we ordered fresh chips, salsa& guac.--which was very well prepared; the freshest guac I've ever had. It had fresh chopped tomatoes & green chiles all perfectly combined. Our wait person/food server made up for the less than stellar first impression of the host. And the food was flavorful. The ambiance was ruined by the diners across from us and the forgetfulness of taking our orders timely and serving the wine after the appetizer couldn't bring us back from what started out as negative experience. There are many restaurants up & down the bay that we aren't bothered. This wasn't the best reception nor dining experience and we are moving on. We hope it's a lesson and possibly could've just been a bad day for the crew, and unfortunately there is so much competition out there. We highly recommend the food for its freshness and flavor; recommend the salmon dish for its flavor and balance but not for its portion size. I came on a weekend, and was able to get a table in the back patio for brunch. The ambiance in the garden was quite nice, and they have canopies and ceiling fans to keep the area cool. The unfortunate thing was that service was a miss. Service was extremely minimal and when I was still trying to finish my drink, the server just came and shoved the bill at me. We were there for less than an hour, so I'm not sure what the rush was about. What they also don't advertise is that they tack on a fee if you pay by credit card, and this wasn't listed on the menu. It only says so on the receipt after you pay that you "save" by paying in cash. For drinks, we tried the Guava Mimosa and Tropical Sunrise mocktail. The mimosa was pretty strong with the alcohol, which could be good if you're into that. The mocktail was quite refreshing with a bit of tanginess that helped with the heaviness of the food. For food, I tried the Corned Beef Hash con Huevos and the Taco Trio with Carnitas. I wish that they allow you to have a mix of fish and carnitas for the trio, but they make you pick only one choice. The carnitas were a good choice though. The hash was good, but definitely a bit on the heavy side. The guava sauce elevated the dish and made it $19. It's decadent! Not too sweet, but buttery, guava-ie and addictive. Would order again!!!! Corned Beef Hash with Hollandaise sauce. We have issue with this dish. Angelicas tried to marry a common shredded corned beef potato hash with a more sophisticated Hollandaise sauce and called it something else. The chef almost did it! Corned beef hash has always been a hearty dish; meat and potatoes. Angelicas took away the heartiness and called it fusion. Okay... I'm trying to say the portion was too small. $22 Camarone. This is another case of regular food dressed up as a fusion dish. For $27 we had a whopping 5 shrimps, 1 cup of yellow rice and 1/4 cup of salad. It would have been okay if the shrimp and sauce tasted good. We only tasted the tomato sauce, nothing else. Despite everything, we had a good time, until.... Our waiter brought us the bill. The tips percentage was set to 22%. Our waiter did what I consider the bare minimum for service: he took our order, delivered it, and did not show up again until we asked for our check. I scrolled through the tips options, looking for 15%. Our waiter was hovering over me, and annoyingly kept saying, "you just need to sign at the bottom", repeatedly!!!! My "Karen" button was definitely rubbed. I settled with 18% and felt robbed. Not a good feeling! Will we come back? Not in a near future. Came to eat breakfast this morning early before 9am and restaurant was open and ready to serve! The ambiance is beautiful and calming outside with ferns and camelia bushes lining the lattice walls. Oh dear lord! So good! I would have licked my plate had I not gone with my coworkers. This was breakfast that I got around lunch time and I appreciate a place that is flexible with their menus because I was feeling chilaquiles and did not want what was on the lunch menu. This came with eggs and what you can't see are the chorizo on the tortilla. I was sweating by the time I was done with eating. The restaurant is gorgeous! The indoor plants are well maintained but I do warn that you understand it can feel like you're in a greenhouse in certain parts of the restaurant. Can finally say I've tried Angelica's after hearing so much about it. We arrived and it wasn't too packed, but there was a little wait before getting seated. I ordered the chilaquiles (as pictured) and despite the image of the meal looking small, it was extremely filling. A Hidden Treasure! I was looking for a space to have an event (a dinner party) and lucked up on finding Angelicas and what luck was it. The picturesque space is nestled in the heart of downtown Redwood City and, if you're moving too fast you'll miss it and WOULD be missing a treat. This 2-star review is in lieu of adding a tip. Yelp used to to add a tip instead of a review. The fried chicken and waffle was a not as described by so many other Yelpers. Even the server said it was very popular. What happened? The dish was not served hot. Which suggests pre-made in my opinion. The waffle was soft. It was quickly and apologetically taken away. It came back with a comment that is was a new serving. Funny, the cut I made was exactly where I had made it. The waffle was soft hot. It quickly cooled down. Microwaved? The chicken was replaced. It was not right out of the fryer. It was not hot and crispy. The skin was crunchy hard. The inside was not moist and tender. The breast meat piece was the driest and hardest to cut through. I was hungry and ate most of it, anyway. Not wanting to send it back again or order something else. I did tell the waitress after our plates were removed. She apologized and said she would let the chef know. It is a very nice restaurant, pleasant staff. Lots of menu options. Note to self, order a Latin dishes the next time I dine there. It sucks when the only thing you'll remember about a restaurant is how their poached eggs weren't poached. I enjoyed the atmosphere, my mimosa, and some pre-meal guacamole and chips, but when it came to my main, I was kinda disappointed. I think a corn beef hash would do stellar with a runny egg, not one that was almost boiled. Even my friends meal who had an eggs Benedict... there is emphasis on having a poached egg... and it wasn't running. It was sitting. On a slow Tuesday night, I had a very important dinner. Here at this meal I would be meeting my partner's family, so it was of the utmost importance. They had chosen this restaurant, so nervously I arrived. We were seated in the back patio area which had a very pretty aesthetic but it seemed like a slow night for them so our service ended up being rather slow as well, however the server was super nice. We got an assortment of appetizers and entrees as well as some drinks. Everything was actually really delicious and I really enjoyed the vibes of the meal. Things were definitely a little slow at times, but because it was a chill vibe it was all good. We also brought a birthday cake to which there is a $15 outside dessert fee, but at least they cut the cake and present it for you. 7/23/24 My now husband and I decided to go to Angelica's for dinner. We made a reservation via the yelp app. Angelica's is located in downtown Redwood City. We thought we'd have a hard time finding parking, but we managed to get a spot about 2 blocks away. The restaurant was relatively empty when we got there. We were seated on the patio and it's beautifully decorated. We liked that the restaurant was pretty quiet (minus a birthday party near the back but thankfully they left when we got our appetizers). Here's what we got: - Old fashioned (for him) - Pink piranha (mine) - Empanadas (share) - Angelica's carne asada (mine) - Fruta del mare bucatini (his) The empanadas and drinks came put first. I admit that the empanadas are on the smaller side, but are very delicious. Zach was practically licking the sauce off his plate while we were waiting for the entrees to come. We only waited 10 minutes before the main dishes arrive. Everything looked great and tasted amazing. The only comment I have is that the beef was a little chewy. The sauce that came with the beef was a little spicy but I liked it. The rice was seasoned well and the corn was delicious. I tried some of the pasta as well, which was really good and the sauce was creamy. Overall, we had a really pleasant time at Angelica's. The food was great, we didn't have to wait long for the food and all the staff was very friendly. The fresh flowers on the tables are a nice touch too! This had been on my list for a while and I was pretty letdown. Came in Memorial Day weekend for Saturday lunch. It took 5-10 minutes after we were seated before a server even appeared to take our order. Salsa+chips aren't free, $7, so we were expecting a good portion. Instead we got some chips, and 3 small salsa containers (the kind you use for ketchup). For $7 that was just ridiculous. The chips were also a bit old. We also tried the fish tacos trio for $18, and went with the fried fish. The order took a bit longer than expected, and the fish was bland, and wasn't crispy. Overall, would rate the fish tacos below average. We weren't the only ones waiting - the table next to us had a party of 3, and only 1 of them got their food, then the others had to wait another 10 minutes for the rest of their food. Then it took another 5-10 minutes to get the check from our server. While waiting, someone from the patio came in to ask the maitre'd for the server since they also weren't getting any service. Decor is great, but the service was ridiculously slow, the food overpriced and below average. I don't know if this was due to holiday service or not, but I'm definitely not visiting again.
