Upon walking in, this was a cute trendy restaurant which looked clean and modern. We sat in the garden area which is covered. I loved the live green walls and the lighting. There are also picture worthy areas for a quick photo. We ordered the ceviche to start off with. It was mid at best.. Nothing that stood out and not enough protein. It was served beautifully but the actual dish itself was lacking. Wagyu burger, this was exactly what you would expect. It was an average burger but cooked a little on the more well done side versus the medium we asked for. This made it a bit dry... Birria oxtail, based on other reviews I had very high hopes for this dish. But maybe because of this, it did not live up to what I was hoping for. Once again, the dish was good but not great. You get 1 piece of oxtail and some scrap meat for decor on a cup of rice. Typical braised method and not the typical birria consume. All in all, the place is beautiful. Service was great. We'd been here once before for brunch on Valentine's Day and loved it, would've been 5/5 stars for sure if I was yelping then. The food was flavorful, the drinks were delicious, and service was great. We returned just this past Wednesday and were kind of disappointed all around. Their dinner food was where it was lacking. We started with the chicken tortilla soup to share, gave it a good stir to ensure all the sour cream, avocado, and other bits were all mixed up .. but when we tasted it, it literally just tasted like warm water. Not hot, and no flavor at all. Seriously, just like water. I even tried a tortilla strip on its own but it tasted like water soaked bread. Gave the soup a second bite just to be sure and then put it at the end of the table to get rid of it. No thank you!! Still paid for it since the busser took it off the table and I don't think our server ever realized we hated it. For entrees, the salmon caesar was nice. The salmon was delicious, the salad itself was basic but you really can't go wrong with a basic caesar anyway. I wasn't disappointed at all. My boyfriend had the lamb chops, which he was left really unsatisfied with. Again, not much flavor on the chops themself, they were SUPER dry and chewy. Definitely could've benefited from a sauce of some sort - the one it did have was scarce and watery. The mixed veggies around the plate were boring and tasteless, but this seems like a common theme here. Would we return? Maybe for breakfast, but this kind of scarred us to ever make the trip out there again. Service was good, she was very sweet and kept us outwardly happy despite our internal dissatisfaction with the food. But overall, quality is just not worth the prices at all, for dinner at least. The food was phenomenal! A great spot for a bunch that gives you a balance between breakfast and lunch and if you're feeling like you would like something a little closer to dinner, they have plenty of options for you to pick from throughout the day. I spent a little over $30 but left full! The restaurant is gorgeous! I enjoyed my experience here when I visited for my cousin's bridal shower. I think my experience is a little biased, but the restaurant was beautiful and quite busy. We had great service and we were able to rent out a part of the restaurant that was shaded, and had some airflow since we had so many people. Our party ordered some appetizers, we had mimosas, and then we had our brunch. I'm thinking about the bruschetta, the guava juice with a mimosas, and the salmon with the corn side! I came on a weekend, and was able to get a table in the back patio for brunch. The ambiance in the garden was quite nice, and they have canopies and ceiling fans to keep the area cool. The unfortunate thing was that service was a miss. Service was extremely minimal and when I was still trying to finish my drink, the server just came and shoved the bill at me. We were there for less than an hour, so I'm not sure what the rush was about. What they also don't advertise is that they tack on a fee if you pay by credit card, and this wasn't listed on the menu. It only says so on the receipt after you pay that you "save" by paying in cash. For drinks, we tried the Guava Mimosa and Tropical Sunrise mocktail. The mimosa was pretty strong with the alcohol, which could be good if you're into that. The mocktail was quite refreshing with a bit of tanginess that helped with the heaviness of the food. For food, I tried the Corned Beef Hash con Huevos and the Taco Trio with Carnitas. I wish that they allow you to have a mix of fish and carnitas for the trio, but they make you pick only one choice. The carnitas were a good choice though. The hash was good, but definitely a bit on the heavy side. This was breakfast that I got around lunch time and I appreciate a place that is flexible with their menus because I was feeling chilaquiles and did not want what was on the lunch menu. This came with eggs and what you can't see are the chorizo on the tortilla. I was sweating by the time I was done with eating. The restaurant is gorgeous! The indoor plants are well maintained but I do warn that you understand it can feel like you're in a greenhouse in certain parts of the restaurant. Ambiance: 5 stars We sat at their outdoor space. Very nice, comfortable and rustic place. Our family had a good time until.... Food: 3 stars Guava Pancakes. The pancakes themselves were just okay. The guava sauce elevated the dish and made it $19. It's decadent! Not too sweet, but buttery, guava-ie and addictive. Would order again!!!! Corned Beef Hash with Hollandaise sauce. We have issue with this dish. Angelicas tried to marry a common shredded corned beef potato hash with a more sophisticated Hollandaise sauce and called it something else. The chef almost did it! Corned beef hash has always been a hearty dish; meat and potatoes. Angelicas took away the heartiness and called it fusion. Okay... I'm trying to say the portion was too small. $22 Camarone. This is another case of regular food dressed up as a fusion dish. For $27 we had a whopping 5 shrimps, 1 cup of yellow rice and 1/4 cup of salad. It would have been okay if the shrimp and sauce tasted good. We only tasted the tomato sauce, nothing else. Despite everything, we had a good time, until.... Our waiter brought us the bill. The tips percentage was set to 22%. Our waiter did what I consider the bare minimum for service: he took our order, delivered it, and did not show up again until we asked for our check. I scrolled through the tips options, looking for 15%. Our waiter was hovering over me, and annoyingly kept saying, "you just need to sign at the bottom", repeatedly!!!! My "Karen" button was definitely rubbed. I settled with 18% and felt robbed. Not a good feeling! Will we come back? Not in a near future. Will bring our companions to Foreigners, Surisan, Taste and Glory, even Berkeley Social Club (all wonderful worth it brunch spots) before circling back to Angelica. read more

The outdoor patio was cool and shaded and had a great vibe with chandeliers and colorful decor. We were helped quickly and our server even brought us water for our pup without asking. Came to eat breakfast this morning early before 9am and restaurant was open and ready to serve! The ambiance is beautiful and calming outside with ferns and camelia bushes lining the lattice walls. They offered to turn on the outdoor heater as it was chilly. Service was very attentive throughout the whole experience. We showed up on time for our reservation with my mother, wife, daughter, three year old and six month old grandson. We ordered our food. My daughter asked for chips and salsa. The waitress asked if she wanted guacamole, she said "No". When they brought it out, guacamole had been included. I asked to have it take it back, but they refused, as they could not take it back to the kitchen. That was($6.00) that I had to pay extra because they refused to simply take back after my daughter had aid "NO". She also ordered pancakes with chocolate chips for my grand child. That was an extra $2.50 charge, (I guess those days in which the chocolate chips were included in the price are long gone and they charge you extra nowadays). The meals arrived and as we were enjoying the food, plates got empty, but no one came to bus the table, nor did they come and asked if we needed anything or at least stop by to check on us. Service was pretty bad. We had to flagged other servers for refills. No one, not a single person, cleared the empty plates on our table. We ended up stacking them to get them out of our way. To top it off, when they brought the bill, they included a 20% gratuity for a party of six. Since when is a six month old baby, who did not order from the menu, counted as a member of a party of six?! When I asked for a hard copy of the receipt, the "guest count said 4." My guess is that the restaurant policy is that every single toddler and babies are counted as adults in order to charge the 20% tip, even though the babies do not order and eat solid food? We have frequented Algelica's multiple times but I must sadly say, we will not be going back. : / read more

I ordered the chilaquiles (as pictured) and despite the image of the meal looking small, it was extremely filling. My parents ordered the omelette and breakfast burrito as well, which they both liked especially with the chorizo. It was a nice breakfast/brunch spot to try out and would love to come back again and try more on the menu. The real charm of this place was eating outside, which we weren't able to at the time. On a slow Tuesday night, I had a very important dinner. Here at this meal I would be meeting my partner's family, so it was of the utmost importance. They had chosen this restaurant, so nervously I arrived. We were seated in the back patio area which had a very pretty aesthetic but it seemed like a slow night for them so our service ended up being rather slow as well, however the server was super nice. We got an assortment of appetizers and entrees as well as some drinks. Everything was actually really delicious and I really enjoyed the vibes of the meal. Things were definitely a little slow at times, but because it was a chill vibe it was all good. We also brought a birthday cake to which there is a $15 outside dessert fee, but at least they cut the cake and present it for you.
