Flavors were amazing! Ended up with dulce de leche and dulce de leche with flan. Definitely would come back. However, the guy working there didn't seem to enjoy his job lol. Didn't really smile or was friendly . He seemed irritated when we were asking to try a few samples. Would have gave a 5 but due that issue, brought it down a star.

Now I know why this was packed on a cold March evening. The gelato is really good. And it's not your typical Italian gelato either. It's Argentinian (who knew that was even a thing?). The line was long, but it moves really fast because there were about half a dozen workers behind the counter.

My new go-to Gelato/Sorbet place! High quality scoops and unique flavors without compromising the authenticity of the Argentine fare. The chocolate sorbet was an easy standout and is and a must try in my opinion. They have 2 other locations. One in nearby Wilmette and the other at the touristy Navy Pier. But note that the Navy Pier location is more limited with their flavor offerings.

Absolutely love this place -- I'm a total sucker for it. Every time I walk by, I somehow end up inside with a scoop (or two). The gelato is incredibly smooth and flavorful -- rich without being overly sweet, and you can really taste the quality in every bite. Their strawberry, coconut, and dulce de leche are my all-time favorites, but honestly, I've never had a bad flavor here. They rotate in seasonal options too, which keeps it fun and worth repeat visits. The staff are always warm, patient, and happy to let you sample before you choose (which I always appreciate because choosing is hard here). [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small, cozy shop with a really welcoming vibe -- the kind of place where they remember you if you come in often enough.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Whether you're looking for a quick treat or want to linger and enjoy, Frio is just consistently excellent. One of my absolute favorites in Evanston -- I'll keep coming back as long as they're around.

This is an Argentinian gelato shop that serves good tasting gelato with a nice variety of flavors. Their gelato is creamy and smooth. The flavor profile of their gelato and sorbetto have a unique taste. They use high-quality natural ingredients to make their gelato flavors. Their flavors, shop, and kitchen have nut-free products. I have been here a few times now but can't remember if I had written a review before or not. This shop was clean. It has nice decor. The service was nice and friendly. The prices for small, medium, and large scoops and the relative portion sizes are reasonable. I tried their Mascarpone Raspberry Swirl and Samoa Coconut flavors, as well as Mango and Lemon sorbetto flavors. They were all good. The sorbetto flavors were creamy for being dairy-free. The lemon flavor was refreshing. The Mascarpone Raspberry Swirl was my favorite. My party and I enjoyed our visit here and would go back to try more of their offerings. I definitely recommend checking out Frio.

One of the best gelato spots I've been too. My husband and I were so intrigued by the different flavors. They were so nice and patient to let us taste some of the flavors. I got the dulce de leche and their popular flavor of tramontana. The little shaved pieces of chocolate definitely hit the spot. Next time I'd get the small size, the medium was too big but enough to take home for another day! Perfect gelato for a hot day!

Came here to get some unique Argentine gelato and frozen desserts. FRIO is one of the hip places in Evanston. It's got lots of gelato as well as coffee and sorbets. A bit pricey but worth a bowl. There's lots of rotating flavors, making you need to come often and get more. A few other choices besides gelato. It also has dairy free sorbets. These rotate in flavors as well. It's about $6 a cup. That's a lot but this isn't average gelato and sorbet though. It's Argentine. Lots creamier than most others it seems, and a lot is packed into the cups too. All the sorbets are non dairy. There was Chocolate Sorbet the last time among others. Get some coffee to warm up, and some gelato to be cool. It isn't big but it's large enough to have a few tables inside. The prices are higher than regular ice cream but this is better quality.

We know not every place is going to be a home run, but Kilwins in Evanston had one of the worst price-to-quality ratios we've ever experienced. The prices were shocking. We paid $66 for three tiny scoops and three small scoops. Even the cheapest single scoop was over $9, and if you wanted two flavors in one scoop, you had to order the larger $11 option. I've been to plenty of premium ice cream shops that charge more than average, but this felt completely out of proportion to what we received. The selection was also underwhelming. There weren't many flavors, and nothing stood out as particularly creative or memorable. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment was the ice cream itself. It seemed like it may have been made with quality ingredients, but every flavor we tried was overwhelmingly sweet. Instead of tasting balanced or rich, the sweetness drowned out everything else. We don't mind paying premium prices when the quality justifies it, and we certainly don't expect every ice cream stop to become a favorite. But after visiting so many great ice cream shops over the years, this was easily one of the most disappointing experiences we've had. Between the extremely high prices, limited selection, slow and blah service, and mediocre ice cream, we won't be back. Maybe their other stuff is good. But the ice cream portion of the store is best avoided.

So we just walked up to the counter to look at the flavors. We sampled a few before we decided to get a cone of the rootbeer float which was so unique because it was like a root beer sorbet and vanilla gelato in one mix. If you've had a root beer float and loved it - this is the move! I'm still thinking about it and it's been a week! The other flavor we ended up with was the Kitty Kitty Bang Bang, which was super subtle with like a raspberry and chocolate flavor. It reminded me of those brookstone raspberry chocolates but in ice cream form. Delish! Highly recommend this was well! I will say the prices were a bit higher than we expected (not that it wasn't listed) but just higher than most ice cream shops but we didn't mind supporting local. I will also say it felt a bit disorganized with the staff there were 2 staff members who were sitting on a stool on their phone and barely said anything to people who were asking questions and engaging. But nonetheless, overall a great experience and can't wait to come back and try other flavors.

Back then, the ice cream was outstanding, and the experience matched its reputation. Today, I live in Glenview, so we usually go to Oberweis because it's much closer. Their ice cream is consistently excellent, and the stores are always clean and well maintained. We decided to give Homer's another try the other night, and it was honestly very disappointing. The building looks like it hasn't been updated in years. The paint is peeling, the ceiling tiles are stained and dirty, and the entire place feels worn out and neglected. After all the success Homer's has had over the decades, it's surprising that more hasn't been invested back into the store. Even more disappointing was the ice cream itself. I don't know if the recipe has changed, but the texture and overall quality were nowhere near what I remember. It honestly reminded me of inexpensive, mass-produced ice cream rather than the premium product Homer's was once known for. Of all the local ice cream shops in the area, this was my least favorite experience. It's really a shame because Homer's was once an institution on the North Shore with an incredible reputation. I sincerely hope the owners take a hard look at both the condition of the store and the quality of the product. This place deserves better than what it's become. Unfortunately, after this visit, I won't be returning.
