What a gem of a dessert shop Lickity Split is! Really good to see Rogers Park having a place like this near by. It has that old school ice cream aesthetics interior, which is really awesome. Got their vanilla concrete custard with cookie dough, and that was an amazing treat. I got the regular size and it was just right. Their custard tasted wonderful with the right consistency. They have a variety of topping choices that you would expect. They also sell cupcakes and candy as well here. Some indoor seating and a couple benches outside. Service here was friendly and prompt. Definitely would come back. Meter parking on Western, but you could park for free nearby along the residential streets by Indian Boundary Park. read more

A cute little ice cream spot in Rogers Park that serves custard. If you a crazy thick, velvety ice cream and want to be local this is a good spot. It's for sure a grab and go spot for ice cream as it's too small to snag a seat and enjoy. I got a fudge brownie sundae and I wouldn't recommend that. I would keep it simple and just get regular custard as I was let down by the overall product. They don't serve real brownies here just little brownie crumbles and not worth the price. Pass on that. I'd say this location is just as good, as the one at Glenlake and Broadway. And to be honest might be a tad better, since it tends to get less crowds. And as it has the same custard menu, candy, and soda selection like the one on Broadway. I don't need to make this review much longer, since you know the drill what they are like, if you've also visited the one on Broadway. Just saying if you are near Indian Boundary Park, it's a good place to stop at before or after. I really wish Rub BBQ was still in business, since that was also a great place to go to whenever I was in this area. NOTE as of right now due to businesses cutting back hours due to you know what, there is a note at the Glenlake and Broadway location stating that the Lunt and Western Lickity Split is TEMPORARILY closed. And states it'll remain this way, till all restaurants and bars go back to full service(and not just take out only) again. Quite possibly the best frozen dessert we've found in Chicago. After a dinner meet-up nearby, we decided to go rogue for dessert and stumbled across this place on yelp. I'm so glad we stopped by, because after eight months of intentionally seeking out every local frozen/ice cream/custard shop in the city, I think we finally found the best. First, the shop is adorable, like a truly old school soda fountain or retro candy store. The service was great - friendly, speedy, and quick with recommendations of staff and customer favorites. I went with a small special seasonal flavor- the pumpkin pie. This was pumpkin flavored custard swirled with real pumpkin pie - crust and all- topped with whipped cream. It was amazing. The custard was rich, smooth, and intensely pumpkin flavored. It was soft but still scoopable/spoonable- certainly closer to softserve consistency than milkshake consistency, which is what I prefer. The mix-in ratio was also spot on. My fiance went with their "OMG" concrete, which we were told is their most popular. Once we tried it, it was easy to see why. It's a rich mix of vanilla custard, a real, housemade brownie, peanutbutter, and hot fudge. It was OMG Good. For the portion size, the intensity of the flavors, and the quality and quantity of the mix ins, I felt the prices were very reasonable. Even though it's a 20+ min drive for us, we will definitely be back! read more

Retro style ice cream and candy shop certainly without the retro prices. Prices are too high. Quality stuff but come on with those prices. I know a lot of folks don't mind paying almost 5 dollars for one brownie but come on. There is also no consideration from what I saw for anyone with diabetes. I saw no no-sugar or fake sugar options. I also saw no option for milkshakes to be made with low fat milk, soy or almond milk. It's cool to be retro, but if you are charging such high prices that are so modern, then modernize the consideration for other's needs as well. At least offer some options please. This place sets the bar for neighborhood sweets/ice cream shops. I went here with my friend the other day because I had a hankering for a really good milkshake. They delivered a chocolate PB malt that melted me- it was sooo perfect. My friend got a vanilla cookie dough malt that was equally irresistible. We took two cupcakes for the road for our respective boo thangs, which also received rave reviews. The array of treats they offer at Lickety Split is really spectacular. We can't wait to come back and try their other flavors. Lickity Split used to be located on Broadway Ave and moved to Western not too long ago. It feels like an old ice cream shop with nostalgic candies and unique flavored sodas (bacon soda...really?) My friend and I sampled their peppermint ice cream with crushed candy canes...and we were hooked. Their ice cream is flavorful, but not overly sweet. I ended up getting their junior size of their concrete (ice cream + custard) of the day: Peppermint Party. It was heavenly. I can't wait to come back and try some more of their concrete mixes. My only complaint is that their smallest size is still a tad too large for my taste. I'd prefer something half the size of their current "small." It feels a bit strange to mention service received at an ice cream shop, but I have to add that the two workers here were very sweet. They really took the time to explain how their concrete mixes work, offered samples, and were just very friendly and helpful. There were a ton (at least 7) of kids (junior high/middle school-aged?) and they were all asking for samples and just hanging out at the store, but the workers were very courteous to them as well. read more

Yes, there are candy, cookies, cupcakes, and specialty sodas, but I have eyes only for custard. First things first--they make a hell, I mean a HELL of a chocolate malt milkshake. So, product: A; Atmostphere: A. Service...I'm not sure. C? Two of three people working were quite cheerful and moved with alacrity. The other employee was slow and dour. And I was very disappointed to wait over fifteen minutes for my two milkshakes. The shop was doing a predictably brisk business on a (relatively) warm Saturday afternoon in February, but it should not take that long to fill orders at any time. There were three customers in front of us in line when we entered, and we placed our orders within about three or four minutes. After that, we waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. For far too long. 3.5 stars. Great milkshake, probably in my top five malts, but they need to speed up the operation during peak periods. read more

And then the guy who made my s'mores drink was cool. At some point, I forgot I was supposed to be meeting the lady for the business meeting and just wanted to hang out. I came back two more times: once on my own and then a second time with my mother who'd just turned 60. The cashier not only complimented my mom's shirt "I make 60 look good," but he took several photos of us and they gave her this cute little dessert with a candle in it. She thought the place was adorable. I for sure can't go there all the time. I won't be able to wear any of my clothes. But I love it in there. I decided on the OMG and it's name says it all. Chocolate custard infused with hot fudge with peanut butter fudge brownie bits.......every bite is OMG. There is also plenty of space to move around and look at their great candy selection. The kids had a hard time making a decision on what to buy.
