I have been a customer of Frame Store for 11 years. Their work has always been pricey, but considering the quality I've always considered it to be fair. Things have changed at Frame Store in the past year, I don't know what has changed. I'm not sure if Chuck being retired is the answer, but it's not the same place. Their attention to detail is gone, and their customer service and regard for customer loyalty has vanished. I recently received a piece I had them reframe after ELEVEN weeks...not the typical two weeks. We moved and with the change, we decided we wanted to swap a black floating frame they framed for another floating frame of another color. Easy, right? After waiting the first two weeks we were unhappy with the fact that the canvas was jetting out from the floating frame nearly an inch! Hardly the flush mounting we were expecting. Turns out that detail was overlooked by the guy who wrote up the order and we needed to choose a different frame. Annoying, but fine. We waited another two weeks and when we got it back the paint on a visible edge was damaged and we refused to accept it in this condition. They were supposed to have it evaluated for restoration and return it in another two weeks. We left for the holidays, weeks went by and when we returned it wasn't ready nor could anyone provide an update or status. Why no update? A few more weeks went by and when phone calls and personal visits got me no information other than a promise of a partial refund for the inconvenience this had been, I called the owner. After a day I learned it hadn't even been evaluated by a restoration expert; what had happened the last four weeks?!? Another two weeks went by and the piece had finally been restored and reframed. When I asked about the partial refund when I picked it up, there was no response. So I asked the guy who promised me a partial refund months ago for the mess ups on their part which resulted in the damage only to learn than "not charging me for the restoration" was my discount! How is that a refund? They damaged my piece after messing up the frame order and I'm supposed to happy they didn't bill me extra to repair the damage. How does that work out? And I'm supposed to overlook the mess ups, the delays, the lack of communication and the promise of a partial refund? And I wasn't expecting a full refund, but something...as promised. I have been a good customer of theirs and spent (literally) thousands with them. Now that they've gone back on their word and clearly don't understand the value of a gesture in the name of good customer service I'm done. read more

The folks at the Frame Store do a fantastic job with archival quality framing. I recently brought them two original Audubon hand-colored prints and I am very satisfied with the level of quality and craftsmanship in the finished product (see photos.) When I decided to frame two of my favorite birds, the Whooping Crane and the American Robin, I knew I had to spend a little extra on an archival quality frame. I can see how some people would think that spending over $200 for a frame is a bit excessive. That may be true if you are framing a poster that costs $10 but if you have fine art valued in the thousands you really cannot afford anything less than a quality frame. In order to preserve the rich hues and the bright whites of these 160 year old images, I needed to invest in a frame made of non-acidic materials and UV-protecting glass. And Frame Store specializes in museum quality products. They have a great selection of frames and mats, too. (I would strongly suggest you keep an eye out for their Groupon. I was able to save a lot of money by using one.) I am amazed at how great my birds look in their new frames. I plan on having more of our Audubons framed in the near future and we'll definitely be going back to the Frame Store in Manhattan Beach. read more

Very expensive for what you get. I purchased a livingsocial coupon for $35 to get $100 worth of services. When I get there I get my painting measured and with no price list , the lady says its $180...so I think... ok so $80 out of pocket. That's more than I want to pay but its fine. When I sign the receipt I see that its actually $180 with the coupon already applied. So wow... I chose the simplest frame ever and still so expensive..... ok so I pick it up a week and a half later and I were that the side of the frame was the end of a name sticking out of it. It's not totally noticeable but when I pay so much I have to be picky ... so I ask the lady if the frame is supposed to have a bump on the side and she's like "i don't know" ... um u work at a frame store ... anyway... not recommending this to anyone. My fiance and I got the Groupon (I know, I know) because we had several pieces of artwork that we needed to have framed. The salesman we met was nice, but very pushy. And talkative. And opinionated. After I finally nailed down the matting, framing and spacing combinations I wanted, we were given the pricing - which was over eight hundred dollars for three pieces, even after using the Groupon. After a week, we got a phone call saying that one of the pieces "looked weird" the way we had chosen to have it framed. We asked them to proceed (I'm an arrogant graphic designer), they did. Two weeks later, two of the three pieces were framed as expected. Our third piece - the "weird" piece - hadn't come in yet. One and a half weeks later our third piece finally came in. It was framed incorrectly, and scotch tape was clearly visible on the artwork. After debating with a second salesman over how it should have been framed, he sent it back to the shop to have it redone. Sixteen days later, I called to ask if it was ready for pickup. We went into the store and unwrapped the frame, only to find a puncture through the artwork. The frame was also created incorrectly - they completely left out the spacers that we had paid for. The only help we got from the salesman was that he would talk to the original salesman who created our order for us; he also acknowledged that there was a puncture and that the frame was made incorrectly. That was it - no refund, nothing. read more

You can't help but feel that he gives your frame job the same attention he would give his own. I've had three special jobs done at the FrameStore. If I want quality, I go there. 5 stars + for the customer service. The only reason why I'm giving a 4 star rating (wish I could give it 4 1/2) instead of 5 overall is due to the price. My husband and I brought in a large black and white print to have framed here. He had the same print framed for his Aunt here two years ago and remembered the price being reasonable ($200-$300), so we decided to go back to have ours framed. When we initially got there at 1:30 there was a sign on the door saying that they had left for a design consultation and they'd be back at 1. Hmm?!?! We went to Target and decided to try again when we were ready to leave. Someone was actually there! The gentelman helped us with our frame selection, which took about 30 minutes. Then he told us the price... over $1,000!!! Are you kidding me? This frame was not made of gold! Luckily, we had a 50% off coupon, so the total came to $562, which we weren't really comfortable with, but the print had sentimental value so we decided to go ahead with it as a wedding gift to ourselves. We ordered it that Saturday and were told that someone would call us when it was ready, but that it would be ready no later than that Thursday. Cut to the following Thursday (1.5 weeks after we dropped it off)... still no call, so I told my husband to call. They told him that they couldn't locate the print and they weren't sure if they had the wood in stock to make the frame... really?!?!?! Finally, we get a call back saying it would be ready the following Sunday afternoon. My husband went in to get it Monday after work... it still wasn't ready. We finally picked it up that Tuesday and they had not attached the portion of the print that was cut off to the back of the frame!! DON'T EVER GO HERE... USE MICHAEL'S!!!!!!! read more

I bought a Groupon for Framestore before reading the negative Yelp reviews. I decided to go ahead and use it because I hate wasting money, I had an additional 50% off coupon, and I needed stuff framed fast. I went in with a set of five large prints to be framed as well as another piece that I needed re-framed (but was keeping the mat and glass). Let me tell you, Shalla, who helped me, was so very thorough and precise and looked up every conceivable frame and glass combo to find the best fit at the best price. She was SO helpful so I could get what I needed with no upsell. After processing all my pieces, she went through the order sheets and saw that she had forgotten to indicate I didn't need spacers on the re-frame and redid the order form so I wouldn't be charged. I myself would likely not have noticed, so it was much appreciated - she could have let Framestore charge me. Shalla also put through a rush order at no charge that ended up being finished a day earlier than she predicted. All the pieces look GREAT. The only issue, which would be easy to prevent in the future, is that the wires hung on the back of my frames are not uniform in length or tacked at exactly the same place on the frame, which made hanging the set level somewhat difficult - but next time I will know to check, and now so will you. read more

We had some work done by Aaron Bros in the past and were not satisfied with the service and product. Aaron framed two small pieces for just over $400, and we got mediocre results. At the Framestore in MB, Chuck helped us pick out the frame for one piece, but we were so impressed with his suggestions we brought in the second piece. Long story short, we picked up the pieces, and were very pleasantly surprised with how well the framing looked. We really did not expect the paintings to come out looking so good. The $600 for both for the work done and the results I thought was a fair price. I will probably take the picture framed by Aaron to the Framestore in MB to reframe it. We have used this particular Frame Store for most of our pieces ever since my first visit there when I discovered how outstanding their staff is. Before yesterday, I hadn't had a reason to go there for years. But now I needed a creative solution to attaching hanging wire to a "tabletop" frame that was also small and made of metal. I took it to two other chain stores closer to home first, only because I was on a deadline for this project...but those places were useless, I'm sorry to say. So, off we went to Frame Store in Manhattan Beach where Sean (I hope I spelled this "his" way!) came up with a brilliant, effective and aesthetically pleasing, truly professional solution...and he did this in a mere few minutes! This was my first time meeting Sean...and just like all of the other professionals I've known at this franchise, he was terrific. I can't thank you enough, Sean! And kudos to whoever does the hiring at this store! Most of the employees seem to be artists themselves and they deliver true expertise and genuine customer service. Very disappointed. Went to get a large piece framed. Priced out different options, selected my preference, and when I presented the 50% coupon I received from online was told it couldn't be used and that I already received a "discount." Really? Why only state that when I offer up your own coupon?? Discouraged, I went ahead with the order because I liked what I had selected. Two weeks later I went to pick up the finished piece and they had the frame in the wrong color. The sales woman became defensive and showed me that she had ordered the correct choice, which was irrelevant to me. It's not my responsibility to make sure those who fulfill the order do it correctly. Then, rather than offering a discount on the incorrect work done or a redo, I was offered the option of a discount if I purchased more frames. Seriously?! I think not. I had lost all confidence. I took my business to Allen Jefferies. Not only did I get a better frame; it was less expensive. read more

I was a regular patron of Frame Store when it was in Manhattan Beach and managed by Chuck. Chuck has moved on and Frame Store is now in Hermosa Beach. I brought two prints in for framing, one with a change in matting. The small, frame replacement only, was returned in about 2 weeks. It took **2 full months** to get my print framed correctly. My requests to have sawtooth hangers, rather than wire, were NEVER accomplished with either print -- even though I saw that request on the instructions. The matte on the larger print was done incorrectly twice. The frame had to be replaced because the color of the frame used for my print was so different in color from the frame I had selected from the store sample. The muted gold of the sample had a garish brass color in the product used. I selected another frame because I could not trust the quality of the frame I had first selected. I will concede that Frame Store replaced the frame at no additional charge to me. However, when the print was returned to be reframed, there were also revised matting instructions because the "shop" had not followed the instructions on the original order. When the print was returned, the matting was corrected -- but they did not change the frame! It had to be sent back again. The person I was working with in the store promised that because this was the 4th time the print was returned, it would be expedited and returned within the week. When 1 1/2 weeks had gone by without I call, I called the store to get status. The store assistant said he would call and have an answer for me that day. By the end of the week, I still hadn't had a call. I called the following week and was promised the print that Thursday, with confirmed delivery in the morning. I called the store on Thursday to get status -- went to voice mail, no reply. I called again on Friday and...finally... my print was in the store. On no occasion did the person I was working with in the store EVER proactively call me with project status. Even when my print was received, I didn't get a call that it was in the store. The only way I ever got information was by calling for status myself, sometimes multiple times. I will repeat -- instructions to use sawtooth hangers rather than wire were not followed on either print. And it took 4 times for the framing to be done correctly. It is a shame that the store that Chuck had built such a solid reputation for is now such a disaster. read more

If you go in they will spend 20 minutes building up whatever you are getting framed and then stick you with another 20 minute speech on there products, and the ever boring history of their store. I at first thought is was the woman, just trying to upsell us like crazy, but when I called back for a quote, a man answered. Same story. There 50% off is a joke. Honestly, if they would just quit with the tactics they would do alot more business. I bought the art, and unless I ask, I don't need a speech about it. I just wanted a frame, and with 40 minutes wasted just to get the highest quote we've gotten anywhere, a huge waste of time. read more

I was calling around to see if any local frame stores could cut the mat I had for a frame. All I got was no, no , no, from everyone I called (with a bunch of bad excuses). Then I called these guys and even though the guy was not sure if he could do it, he asked me to bring it in, took a look at did it (for free!), despite them not even having the "proper" equipment on location (the same excuse a few other places gave me). While I was in there I even checked out their supply/choices which was impressive and a lot more choices than other places I had check-out. I've been taking my artwork to the FrameStore in Manhattan Beach for the last five years. Jason, the salesperson, is knowledgeable about art and has great suggestions on how to best frame each piece. Why do we bother to get things framed? I mean, there are so many special pictures in our life that there's really not enough room on our walls to make this happen. However, we as a society feel that there are those special pictures that definitely need frames, and when that happens, we start looking for coupons. So what is more important, the frame or the coupon? That depends on who you ask. Where I come from, the coupon is King! It's just the way my mother raised me. Every Sunday morning in the LA Times, it didn't matter if the world was burning, the only part of that big bundled newspaper that mattered were the coupons. With that said, once you have the pic you want framed as well as the coupon, you need to see a young man at Framestore named Jason. He's the life-coach of framing. He'll make you want to come back even when you have nothing to frame. One time he helped me to my car with a rather large piece and then I drove away only to find that he was still in the backseat. Hey, these things happen, but my time with him is always rewarding, and I'm sure Jason brings that personal level of professionalism to every customer. I also want to extend a special thanks to the owner. Although he wasn't there, he worked with me on an affordable price after I decided to go from Standard Glass to Museum Glass.
