I called one afternoon and received a prompt call back the following morning. We made an appointment for an estimate. On the day of our appointment Martel was running a little late. To my surprise he call me to let me know he was a little late. On Tuesday morning May 29, 2018 he arrive at my house on time with crew and equipment. Franco came to our home for a free estimate and was able to tackle our large job within a few days of giving us an estimate and scheduled the work on a Sunday.; which most companies do not do without additional charges. We had approximately 40 live oak trees that needed to be trimmed and dead branches removed. Just as he explained things would flow, they did. Crew of 3-4 guys came out with chainsaws and towing a large wood chipper. He said the job would take about 8 hours and he was right on the button. The crew arrived right on time and worked throughout the day to have job completed within the 8 hours estimate and in the end cleaned up as if they were never here. Franco was very prompt in coming over the weekend to give me quotes for cutting my evergreen-pear tree. He did a good job. He neatly cut and piled firewood that he didnt have space to take in his truck (and I was able to get rid of it easily on craigslist). But he did under estimate the size of my tree and I had to agree to give him $25 more in the middle of the cutting and hence the 4 star. read more

Owner Mardel Franco is licensed and insured and seems to be knowledgeable of the requirements of various types of trees. I noticed that he does all of the "artistic work" up in the tree, trimming and shaping the canopy, while his crew handles the clean-up, stump removal, etc. around the yard. INTEGRITY Mardel Franco (owner) is a pleasure to work with; his crew hard working and efficient; his prices fair to low; and he stands behind the quality of his work. We needed fairly extensive yard cleanup in a hurry to prepare for an appraisal. Mardel said he could arrange his schedule that week so the work could be done the next day - at less than half of the price we had just received from another vendor. Mardel arrived on time every time; unfortunately, I can't say the same about myself. I wasn't even home when he arrived to do the work the next day and I left a huge obstacle in his way. He and his crew rolled with it and performed all the other tasks they could until I returned 3 hours later to clear the area so he could complete the other items we had agreed on. The work was completed at the time Mardel said it would be the same day. A quick review of the work done left me very happy with the drastic visual transformation and overall, happy with all the work. I paid him and his crew left. The next day I spent more time in the areas the work was done and realized that one task had not been completed at all and another was not completed to my satisfaction. I spoke with Mardel and he came to my home at the end of the same business day and did the work himself - committing to more than our original agreement in an effort to make me a happy customer. Franco was very good. They were working across the street. I went over and asked for a bid. He said he'd be at our home the next day. He did and was right on time. I had 4 trees in the back trimmed by half with 1 removed and 7 palm trees throughout nicely trimmed up with the chainsaw. Took almost all day. Very professional. Absolutly a professional company. Actually covered a small plant so the falling branches didnt hurt it. Cleaned everything up....small leaves, twigs, everything from the ttee to the chipper on the street. You wouldnt even know they were there judging by a mess left because there wasnt one!!!!!!!! The tree was blocking our solar panels and now were making power when before the sun would sit behind the tree. Our squirrel friends still came back so theyre happy too. Quick job too. 19 May 2015: Ten years ago, a landscape contractor convinced us to put weed-block fabric + gorilla hair on our yards (roughly 3,500 sq ft) -- to retard weeds. Big mistake. Why we agreed to such folly, I will never know. What gorilla hair does is ATTRACT weeds (one year weeds were over five feet tall). It has been on our list for a long time to hire a contractor to get rid of the fabric + gorilla hair. We also have a sizable paver path that weeds love too. Finally, after thinking of yet another season battling gigantic weeds, I compiled a list of possible contractors. Several said the project was too small for them, or too big. A couple contractors seemed approximately a good fit so we asked them to come out and take a look. One of the two was Mardel (of Franco's): he was enthusiastic and his price was reasonable and fair. We hired him; his crew was here (on May 19). Five guys arrived, and cleared the yards in 4.5 hours, hauling away the debris, sweeping up everything. The crew was professional. I don't impress easily, but was impressed. The yards are bare dirt now -- the way we want it (for the time being). We paid by check. I checked Mardel's contractor's license, and it appears he subtracts rather than adds things (clear things away rather than puts things down). "Out with the old, in with the new." Mardel is a 'out with the old' guy. Mardel's crew did such a fabulous job, I am ignoring that they were an hour late. You can bet I will hire them again if I ever I need yard stuff removed. Thank you, Mardel and crew! Five stars (*****). ------------- UPDATE ------------- 19 May 2015: Downgrading to three stars (***). I noticed that three sections of front yard still have fabric + gorilla hair on them, which Mardel's crew missed. I just text-messaged him to please come back and fix those sections.
