I hired Miabella to trim 3 large trees in our yard. A few days after the job, I went in the backyard to put back up our expensive copper wind sculpture and found that it was bent and wouldn't turn. I had moved it to a location away from the tree and it looks like they dropped a large branch on it. We were disappointed in how careless the workers were with the plants and yard. They trampled the daffodils, broke the support stick for a rose plant, displaced a post for the clothes lines, broke the Marguerite plant in the front yard and didn't clean up completely. Also disappointing was that they didn't follow instructions. There were branches hanging over the roof of the house in the front yard. We are disappointed that the boss, Manuel Chavez didn't come back to inspect their work. One of the workers came to the door to collect the check from my wife after they were all packed up and ready to go. They never asked (and my wife speaks Spanish) if everything was done okay. Unfortunately, she didn't check their work before giving him a check. I sent a complaint email to Manuel and 4 days later, still no reply. Update: Manuel finally came out to apologize for the damage, that our directions were not followed and that he didn't inspect the work. Completely destroyed a heritage oak and damaged our fence in the process! This tree company showed they do not care about the trees they are trimming. Find another company. This is unconscionable. What happened: Our neighbors hired them to remove two large limbs on their side of our oak. The crew hacked off the entire side of the tree and took off far more limbs than they said they would. Miabella just finished their job here, and I am completely satisfied! Background: We are located in the Santa Cruz mountains, on 1/2 acre of redwoods, firs, bays, oaks, and maples. Lots of trees :) The main part of today's job was "spring cleaning," which consists of collecting and chipping all the branches and debris that comes down during the winter before it becomes kindling during fire season. And some of the "debris" includes redwood branches up to 20' long and 7" wide. When they finished the chipping they'd filled the truck. We also had them remove one completely dead bay tree, and trim a few dead branches off of a couple more trees. Also weeding for a minimum 5' fire clearance around the house and cleaning leaves/twigs/debris from the roof of the house & garage, including porches and walkways. Adolfo said they'd arrive between 12-1pm, and they actually pulled up at 11:45! The crew worked quickly and efficiently and got it all done in barely three hours. When I looked over everything they had gotten it all, even better than I would have expected or accepted. I will be happy to call Adolfo and his crew again next season. Awesome work! I had a big pine tree to remove from my front lawn. I got about 7 quotes before I made up my mind. Either the price was too high or they didn't have insurance. My insurance guy told me that if one of the workers was falling on my lawn, I would be responsible. So worker's compensation was my top requirement. Leonel was the best quote and was insured and had worker's compensation. I received an email with the quote the same day as I called. They came and within few hours the tree was gone. They were very careful to not damage the bushes around the tree. It took me 5 years to get those bushes to that height. They left and it was clean and just perfect. First the positives: - Manuel was quick to respond and we worked out a deal pretty quickly. - The team was punctual. - They did a good job on removing trees, grinding stumps and hauling away rocks without damaging the property. - There was a minor chip on the fence that they proactively fixed. The main reason for them losing a star is because they did not clean up after grinding the stumps. It was a huge mess everywhere and they said it was my problem. Only after I said I wouldn't pay they started cleaning up. I would highly recommend putting everything in the contract to ensure nothing is missed. I had 8 giant Italian cypress trees removed by Miabella. They were tidy and cleaned up after themselves and were respectful of me when I approached them to ask a question. Beyond that, three plants were broken, my trimmed ivy hedge is mangled when the heaving branches landed on them, and even though I was told by Manuel that they would need to cut through some pvc piping, the pipes were mangled too. No care was taken in cutting them. Communicating with the guys that came out to cut down the stumps was very difficult because of a language barrier which made the whole thing that much more stressful. I so wish I had seen the negative reviews before I hired them. I've called and left a message to report the damage, but no one has called me back. Avoid this company. read more

The local tree service industry serving Sunnyvale and surrounding areas has, unlike many other industries, about a half dozen clear leaders when it comes to competence, knowledge, and customer service. The slightest edge can lead to a sale and a longterm relationship. Miabella earned my initial business and, after doing the job, my future business. The recent high winds knocked over one of my huge birch trees right onto my neighbor's garage. Since I didn't know how much damage it had done, and was expecting more high winds, I wanted it taken care of as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it blew over on a Sunday afternoon, when most businesses were closed. I put out a call for help on Yelp and, within the hour, got an email response from Miabella. The gentleman who responded asked me if Tuesday morning would work for someone to come out. I told him that I needed someone out on Monday because of the predicted high winds. He checked, and then got back to me and told me he would send someone out on Monday. The project manager, Leonel, showed up on time and was respectful and listened carefully to my concerns. I asked him the probable cause of the tree falling over (besides the winds) and he showed me the evidence of dry rot and what appeared to him to be a fungus. I told him that fungus had taken out another tree in the grouping two years ago. He wanted to look at the remaining birch and recommended that I have that one removed as well as it was showing the same problems. I decided to take his advice and he gave me a quote for taking down the two trees, three stumps (one left from the third tree), remaining roots and cleaning the area. His bid was extremely competitive and I let him know that a couple other companies were coming to bid and that I would let him know ASAP. One company came while we were talking and the man barely got out of his truck, took a look at Leonel with me, called over to me that he didn't do competitive bids and that I was wasting his time, got back into his truck, and left. A third man and gave a slightly higher bid and told me the second tree looked healthy enough to last another year or so, followed by a last company who was represented by a man who couldn't tell me anything until he talked with his boss (who didn't answer the phone). By that time, I had decided to go with Miabella and Leonel, not because of the slightly lower bid, but because of the trust that he had earned with me. The team showed up early the next day, cheerfully and competently did the job (Leonel was there as well) and the problems were resolved. They removed the tree from my neighbor's garage which, fortunately, just slightly bent the rain gutter but didn't damage their roof. The guy who was doing the stump/root removal knocked on the door to let us know he was done and to come out to see if we approved of the job. It was beautiful; very neat and tidy. Leonel, who had to leave briefly to check on another job, returned and made sure we were satisfied with the work. It turns out that the second birch was in even worse condition than the one that blew over (see photos of the tree's interior). Both birches were soft inside and it was just a matter of time before they both died. So, my gut instinct in going with Leonel and Miabella proved right.
