Dropped in for dinner, and was looking forward to trying this place. The food was a little hit or miss, the goat cheese ravioli was fantastic, the veggie pasta was good, the burger was fairly ordinary. In their defense the burger is probably the cheapest thing on the menu, but I feel like there is still room for a really nice elevated burger and this just wasn't really that. The meatball appetizer was ok, I feel like the grits kind of mute most of the overall flavors. The fried oysters were under seasoned but the roumelade was great. Cocktails were fine, nothing to write home about. Dessert was good. Service was fantastic, dishes came out quickly, server was super personable. Honestly I would have gone with 4 stars. But my biggest gripe was the space we were in was REALLY loud. We were seated in their secondary? Dinning area. Big glass room, etc. And when we got there it was fine, mostly empty. But they ultimately seated a ~20 person party in the room and as soon as that happened we just couldn't hear each other at the table anymore. I feel like there were a lot of empty tables when we originally arrived so I'm not sure why they seated us where there was going to be a huge party. The group was louder than average in general but the room just really amplifies the noise. So I feel like even if it was a bunch of small groups it would be pretty unbearable, especially for a place where you are spending $100+ per person between apps, entrees and drinks. So just be careful where you're seated I guess if that is something that bothers you. Overall maybe worth trying. read more

This was an our second visit in the past 2 months. The first visit was solid. While we were disappointed with the steak we ordered, ribeye, we chalked that up to this restaurant not being a steakhouse. We were with a larger group - 8 people and the octopus starter and she crab soup were great. Our pastas were all enjoyed. Unfortunately, tonight the food was mediocre. The goat cheese ravioli was listed as having a scallop, corn and bacon sauté but the meat tasted like a dried up chicken or something. Definitely not a bacon, lardon or even pork belly. Both of which could have been substituted had they run out of bacon. We had this on our previous visit and it was nothing like the first time. Burger was fine. She crab soup seems to be reliable. Perhaps the chef was different tonight. Regardless, makes me unlikely to return unless it is just for a drink. The staff were nice and professional, but could be more attentive. read more

4.4 overall for me. Went here before comedy show on a weekday. Decor is nice but the vibe needs work with some different music or something. Just feels little stuffy. Service was great as our waiter was on top of everything. Also, the bread they give to the table was warm and delicious. Split an order of their fried chicken and Henry burger. Had heard the burger was really good but I wasn't very impressed. Thought it was an above average burger but nothing I'd rave about and the fries only had a very slight hint of truffle. The chicken, however, was delicious with all the accompaniments working perfectly together to give a tasty dish. I don't know where the rosemary jus was but wish there was more of it and I do think $31 is a bit overpriced for chicken and should be mid/high twenties. I love this place! The patio renovation is beautiful. They have a big new fireplace and large windows all around the room. The food is consistently amazing and I have to say that this is in my top 3 of the best food in Lexington. My go-to's are the Lettuces (with pistachio!) and the She crab Soup. We had our employee dinner last night. Started off with some great cocktails at the bar. The Black Manhattan and the Vanilla Old Fashioned were both fantastic. Our appetizers were the mussels, meatballs with grits, brie, and oysters on the half shell. All of them were delicious. I had the Berkshire pork chop and my wife had the filet. Some of our other group had the fried chicken. We finished the evening with the cheesecake and the brownie. The food, drinks and service were great. Our waitress, Ashley, was very attentive and made some excellent suggestions on our appetizers and entrees. We enjoyed our seating in the bar area. I know our entire party enjoyed everything about the restaurant and we will definitely be back. read more

Distilled came recommended from a friend and after looking at the menu we were super excited to try it out. We were a larger group and had no problem being seated and had excellent service. Everything on the menu sounded so good, but I went with something that I normally wouldn't order out just to be a little more daring than just my typical filet or ribeye ordered and tried the Crispy Pork Milanese. The description of hot pepper jelly and goat cheese gremolata made the choice for me. This was a very large portion bone-in pork chop that was cooked to perfection. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the goat cheese with it, but I will say that any time I cook a pork chop moving forward, it will be with goat cheese sprinkled on top. So delicious. And while I didn't get to taste the Porcini Dry Rub Filet or the Fried Chicken, others at the table did order these and the plating was just top notch. Spending the long weekend visiting the bourbon trail and made Lexington our home base, what a great decision! Lots of new places to explore. Unfortunately (or fortunately) for us, it was the same weekend as ScareFest which may have impacted our ability to get easy reservations, so we scrambled every night. Luckily, Distilled was available for a not too late spot and was well reviewed! It's an uber from downtown, not walkable and on a not very well lit street. Cute set up, like a home inside, makes it very cozy - right down to the creaking floors. The music track was odd, perhaps on purpose? It was poppy 80s with a little new wave thrown in for good measure but against the stuffy interior it broke my brain a little. We had a table ready even though we were a little early was a huge thumbs up from me. The menu was classy traditional, I had a hard time understanding what was a true appetizer to share and what was a salad or soup just for me but we powered through. I had the lettuces salad which was good but it felt like it needed more oil or lemon, something to break up the pistachio mixture. I had a pasta dish and my husband had fried chicken. He said his was phenomenal, mine was good but could not finish it all. The drinks were fantastic! Overall, would visit again, maybe switch up the dish choices. read more

Spent my visit at the bar, which appeared to be a highly coveted experience. The bartender, Tavvi, was very chic and knowledgeable about local bourbon. She made excellent cocktails and recommended yummy items from the menu. I had both the house manhattan and old fashioned. Both were excellent and left me wishing I hadn't drove, so that I may indulge in another! I had the Creole Shrimp - very tasty and flavorful and the Fried Oysters - authentic and reminiscent of old south heritage. I was very happy with my choices. Would recommend to a friend. First of all, our server was sweet and tried her best. Now, the food. 5 guys had dinner there on Monday at 6. Drinks sat on the end of the bar while we waited for them a couple times. They were out of the twice baked potatoes and only had 4 oysters in the house. For $85 for the ribeye and $60 for the filet, we had to eat "truffle" fries. These were fries straight from McDonalds. The steaks came out cold. We sent them back. One guy had taken a bite out of his and when it returned it was the same steak that was hot on 1 side due to the broiler. 4 pieces of asparagus on each plate - how generous. They were "nice" enough to take 2 dinners off the bill but $500 for a meal of subpar food was ridiculous. Will never go back. read more

We have been traveling to Lexington for four years and we finally just found this place! I don't know how we didn't find it before because it's one of the best restaurants we've been to in Lexington. It's an a cute little neighborhood off the beaten path. Wonderful ambience, food, and service by Gabby. We started with mussels and then had the fish, the steak and the crabcake with cocktails. Distilled on Jefferson is in a really cute building and the atmosphere is great! It is casual enough for a weeknight dinner, but also fancy enough for a special occasion. The food that my husband got was excellent and he raved about it - even the drink. The reason I would give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that our server was not great with my dairy intolerance - I was given things I couldn't eat and had to send back. We made a last minute decision to try out Distilled on Jefferson last night and were pleasantly surprised. This was our first time to Distilled. We came from a bourbon tasting, so we did not try any drinks, but will go back for drinks at the bar some time. Warm bread was delivered quickly and replaced when we ran out! I had the fried chicken, which admittedly was not what I was expecting, but was fantastic. I would highly recommend. My wife is a vegetarian and ordered the roasted mushroom ravioli. It was also excellent. She would have licked the plate were we not in public. Service was excellent and our server was quite personable. Our meals did not take long to prepare, though we were on the earlier side. The place filled up after we sat down. The atmosphere was lovely and not too loud. Had a great dinner here tonight while visiting from NY! Our server Kasey was wonderfully attentive. I ordered the Love in the Time of Corona cocktail. It was made well but a little sweeter than what I usually go for. But a good cocktail! My husband enjoyed his Black Manhattan. For apps, I ordered the fennel apple salad, which was so light and perfect for summer. The cheese (cross between Camembert and Gorgonzola) was super yummy mixed with the peppery arugula, and the fennel was refreshing. My husband ordered the crab soup, which had huge chunks of crabmeat!! The soup had a little kick, which he loved, and it was topped with caviar. Great dish. For entrees, I went for the homemade crab ravioli with corn. It was so delicious and not too heavy. It's not a huge dish so if you're really hungry I would make sure to order an appetizer. My husband ordered the 16oz steak au poivre which was cooked so well. Really really delicious, and the garlic rosemary fries were great. We did not order dessert. We did have a glass of the 2017 Rubus Zinfandel which was quite delicious. If we're ever back in KY we will return, and we'll definitely recommend this restaurant to friends who are visiting Lexington! read more

My friend made reservations here as we were finishing up a great day on one of the Bourbon trails. Parking was weird & tight behind the building, so I parked in the alley. Once inside (and seated), it was warm and chic. Our exceptional server - Ashley - was friendly, personable, & knowledgeable. We could not have been better hands! We started off with drinks (one vanilla bourbon old fashioned and two Pappy Van Winkle's 10 year bourbon). Oooohhhh so smooth! We apparently finished the bottle as the bartender -- Vy -- asked us we wanted the empty bottle. YES, PLEASE! We opted not to have a starter (other than their freshly baked bread to order). For my entree, I selected the Porcini Dry Rub Filet (ordered medium rare), which was accompanied by Okinawa sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, crispy country ham & herb butter with a red wine sauce. OH. MY. GOD. This was one of the BEST steaks that I have ever eaten! I could have cut the steak with a table knife. The accouterments added to entree perfectly! I forced myself to eat slower than normal so that I could enjoy and savor each taste bud tantalizing bite! One of my friends asked Askley her thoughts on the Chicken dishes, and Ashkey recommended the Fried Chicken stating that is is so tasty and moist. She did mention one of the sides being vinegary, which was a great call out; if you like vinegar, it was spectacular. The entree was so exceptional that I asked Ashley if I could meet/speak with the Chef. Instead, the manager (I believe) -- Mark -- came out, and I told him what I wrote above. Very nice and relaxed atmosphere. The food was mostly excellent, although the Berkshire Pork Chop was a disappointment. The dish was served with "creamed gnocchi, shiitake, demi-glace, fried brussels sprouts, sherry gastrique, pancetta". It was an overly large and not particularly tender chop served on a bed of the gnocchi-sprouts-mushroom-cream blend. The base was amazing! The blends of the cream and slightly seared sprouts against the bouncy gnocchi and shiitake was spectacular and I could have made a meal out of that. Highly flavorful yet supremely balanced, it was the highlight of the meal. As I write this a few weeks later, my mouth is watering at the memory. Very well done! The chop itself was a hulking and relatively bland distraction and I did not care to finish it. The menu described it as a 14 ounce cut, which seems absurd and completely unnecessary. The meal would have been a 5 star if perhaps the chop was replaced with a 7 ounce serving of pork loin (or at least a much smaller and better seasoned chop). Others in my party had the mushroom ravioli and the crab cakes and those were very well received and raved about. The service was very good and attentive. Overall, this was a great place and I will go back. I hope there will be more vegetable-forward options in the future as well. read more

Was visiting Lexington with friends, and was blown away by the food and experience. I started with the she-crab soup, which was a delicious and hearty bisque with great flavor of crab and pepper. I could have just dunked my head in it and been happy. I am told that the Kale Crunch salad tastes like lawn clippings. I had the sea bass, and it was delectable. Flaky, and the chimichurri and the curry potatoes were a great compliment. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was attentive and warm. We'll be coming back here. read more

My party of three girlfriends all give this establishment five stars as we were all wowed by the taste, presentation, and service! I am so full that I think I might die, but I will be happy, lol! My girlfriend had the filet with a porcine mushroom rub on sweet potatoes - it looked divine! Other girlfriend got the Airline chicken with baked potato which she said was delicious. I got the burger which had cheese, sautéed onions and a mild sauce which was great! I thought before I took a Bute that it was going to be like a costco patty but it wasn't! It was moist and tasty. This came with fries with seasoned salt on them and they were prefect! Super glad this was within walking distance to our hotel. The vibe was classic southern and we loved it! For desert, we ordered one of each of the first three desserts she mentioned and made her not tell us any others available so that we wouldn't have to choose. We had a mascarpone cheesecake with a ginger snap crust, a orange bourbon glazed creme Brule, and a strawberry shortcake made with lavender scones. Holy heck!!!!!! They were all FANTASTIC! We tried this restaurant for my friends birthday and it was absolutely amazing! The food was really good. I also tried the mussels appetizer which I did not take a picture of, but I would say it was probably my favorite mussels by far in Lexington. The service was really great and everyone on the wait staff was super friendly. The ambiance is very quiet which is nice if you are looking for a restaurant that isn't too noisy. Let me get right to the point. The crab ravioli is to die for and one of the best I've eaten!! The handmade pillows are smaller and rectangular-shaped served with a fresh corn elote, an amazing tarragon burr blanc, chili oil, and greens. A bit disappointed honestly ... some of the dishes myself and the family ordered were prepared to perfection, others left a lot to be desired. As always I start with positives before diving into it. The ambiance was excellent, lovely seating and nicely decorated and gives off the feeling of fine dining without completely breaking the bank. The appetizers were stellar, definitely get the calamari and the tempura grouper. Main dishes were mostly a big hit, the Shrimp Bucatini with squid ink pasta and mussels was the star. The steak frites and catfish dishes I would also recommend. Finally was the dish I personally ordered the fried chicken. I really wanted to enjoy the dish but there were several issues, the chicken itself was cooked well but the crust was a bit soggy from the sauce on the bottom and the chow-chow on top; the latter I felt deterred from the dish by being way too vinegary. Though the potato underneath was a big hit in the dish. So, here's what ruined the experience for me, the service. No one was rude or blatantly bad, so it might have been an off night and I'm not one to out specific people. That said the front of house were mostly nice enough, though gave us a bit of push back when we requested to move to the outside patio, after we were finally accommodated thanks to our waitress. Speaking of our waitress she was fairly nice but was not the most attentive, we sat there for what felt like nearly half an hour without much any service. On the topic of waiting, the main course took way too long to come out so these two coupled together left a lot to be desired. I've been to worse establishments but I've also been to ones that were much better across the board. I wanna give this place 3.5 but alas Yelp doesn't allow for it. read more

Now the food ...those mussels will be something I dream about. Damn. Those were too good. Dipping the house bread (that was right out of the oven) just made it that much better. We split the soup, the wedge and then the fried chicken as well. All were incredible. They even treated us to a dessert as there was a mishap with one of the dishes. The ambiance was beautiful. Over Valentine's Day weekend, Fat Man Reviews went to Distilled on Jefferson in Lexington, KY, a chic joint serving southern inspired food. I had the Caddish, a cocktail made with Silas Jones bourbon, Vida Mezcal, Cointreau, and peach. The peach was upfront and light, then the smoky mezcal and bourbon finished. The drink was sweet, light and refreshing. My fiancé tried the Lavender Lemonade, made with Wheatley Vodka, Lavender, Butterfly Pea Tea, Lemon and Soda. It was vodka heavy with bit of lemon. We tried the Tempura Catfish, made with Spicy Yuzu Mayo, Chive, Scallions and sliced radish. The catfish batter was light, and fried to a nice light brown but was a little mushy in the center and also needed salt. The mayo was great and not overly spicy, and the radish added a nice crunch for texture. I tried the special of the night, a 18oz South Dakota Rib eye with red potatoes, Brussels sprouts, herb truffle butter and cognac au poivre sauce. The rib eye was cooked to a perfect rare, had good meat to fat ratio, but it was a little chewy and slightly under seasoned until getting to the center. The truffle butter added a nice salty earthy flavor and the cognac sauce was wonderful with a great pepper flavor and a slight tang. The Brussels were sautéed perfectly but unfortunately the potatoes were a bit under done, but did have a good sear on them. My fiancé tried the Aged Duroc Pork Chop, a 12oz bone in chop dry-aged for 21 days. It is served with Gorgonzola gnocchi, arugula, Broccolini, demi-glace and red onion marmalade. The pork was absolutely fantastic, perfect temperature, tender and juicy. The gnocchi was amazing, seasoned well with light chew. The arugula and Broccolini were perfect and the marmalade was also fantastic. It was sweet and fruity tasting while helping round out the dish. I highly recommend ordering this entrée. Distilled offers lunch and dinner with various sandwiches, salads and entrées. They have a full bar and offer craft cocktails. Service was wonderful and the staff were very knowledgeable. The Fat Man says that Distilled on Jefferson is Fat Man Approved. read more

Poor business practice! I made a reservation for Mother's Day brunch 2 weeks in advance. After reviewing the brunch menu, it seemed like it could work for our family of 4 (2 school aged children) with options that could work for the kids. They then called 4 days in advance to confirm the reservation, only to then disclose that they were doing a special Mother's Day menu that was $75/person fixed course menu. Was this information located anywhere on the lot website you ask? No, it was updated at the end of the next day - just 3 days before Mother's Day. Of course this is now too late to make a reservation for Mother's Day to pivot to a good plan. When asked if we would be able to order off the regular brunch menu in light of this very late change in menu, they stated the fixed course would be the only option available. I've enjoyed their food in the past, but given this level of disrespect, I'm not sure that I could stomach going back. read more

My wife and I dined here for her birthday, last night, and had a wonderful meal. We went early, before a show, arriving about 6 pm. There were two or three other tables. We were seated promptly and water and warm bread & butter were brought to the table quickly. Took a little longer than expected for our cocktails, but everything else was spot on. We both had the Kentucky Manhattan made with Buffalo Trace and a Pecan liqueur. Tasty. We also both had the Dry Rubbed Filet with brussel sprouts, crisp country ham and Okinawan Sweet Potato mash. Really enjoyed our time. Our server was really good and did not rush us. We started with a couple of the starters. The the Tempura Catfish and the Cheese plate. The Catfish was tender and tasty with a nice spicy mayo sauce and the cheese plate was good but a tad overpriced. Our server had a hard time telling us the types of cheese that were on the plate when we were going to order. My Low Country She Crab soup was very rich and a great way to start.
