Tooth pulled. Cleaning. Fillings. How this all came about, is my jaw was aching. MIL said there was a new dentist in the area. I called. They took my insurance. So made an appointment. I just thought I was clinching my jaw too much due to stress? Well, news wasn't good... serious infection, tooth couldn't be saved. Background. I explained my past trauma dental experience as a child. The whole staff was very kind to me as I was going through the emotions. It's sad that I had to leave my last dentist of 20 years, but he no longer took my insurance. I loved that office. And to my surprise, I think I found a new dental office to love. She then looked at the crown and said you have worn a hole in it so I am unable re-glue it on and thus you will need a new crown at $1,607 !!! I'm wondering if you can tell that by just looking at the old crown, why the photos and Xray with a $145 charge for the office visit that didn't help me at all ? I also had another tooth with an old deteriorating filling. More Xrays and photos, then I was told "you need to see a specialist about this", but no suggestion about who that may be and what may be needed to be done. My $1700/tooth veneer fell off within a week and they spent the whole session making fun of me. They offered the $49 new patient cleaning but it's actually $225 and only after a week of them messing up the appointment. The hygienist broke off a retainer bracket and wouldn't go get the dentist to glue it back on. Then she told the receptionist it was just because "I was too tired...?" I've had it. Two other dentists were pessimistic about their ability to fix it with bonding, without substantial removal of tooth structure. As I am blessed with overall healthy and pretty teeth, I resigned myself to just live with it. While it was barely noticeable to others, it was a substantial source of frustrating, near-constant physical discomfort for me. After moving to San Antonio, I wondered if this practice could help me out. Dr. Beckel saw me for what I assumed would be just a preliminary consultation, and he convinced me to let him fix it right then and there! I got the sense he could tell it had really been bugging me a while, and wanted to make it better. I felt his communication was good and his bedside manner really excellent. He gave the problem a lot of thought personalized to my specific case, and was optimistic--but realistic--about his ability to fix it with as microscopically minimal enamel removal as possible. After just a few minutes, I got handed a mirror and was stunned to see a tooth that looked genuinely as good as new. It was actually a bit shocking, in a good way. I am truly amazed by the appearance of this bonding.
