We got an estimate for a move a couple of towns away from where we live We were given the song and dance of why his estimate was so much higher than we had expected only because he said that the end of June is when everyone moves and it was his busiest time. His estimate was over $1400 to move 2 bedrooms, with us packing everything and 25 boxes. We did get three other estimates that were much lower than 1000 Obviously we chose not to use this mover. I suggest shopping around first on reputable movers. The companies I contacted didn't have an influx on the end of June. He was very nice though. Just a little overpriced. Truck $61.00 hr 4 men @ $26 hr Est 6-7 hr @ $165 hr Travel time ( 2 towns away) set 2 hrs $330.00 Charge for containers $124.50 (We have our boxes and all is going to be ready to be packed from garage to garage. 6 hr working minimum $1320.00 Plus Tolls Total $1444.50 read more

I contacted Richter days before I needed to move. They calculated the estimate based on my statements over the phone and came in with the best quote of all the movers I contacted. They assured me they could have me moved in one day without any problem and were extremely reasonable about the additional items added after the quote was issued. When the moving day came, they arrived at our home on time in a beautiful truck. Because of the configuration of our driveway they weren't able to bring the truck down to the house and the men began hauling all of our furniture and goods up our driveway by hand!!! They did not add any cost because of this and STILL finished our move before 4 PM. When they arrived at our new home (a 3rd floor walk up), the movers hauled all our stuff up without any dings, dents or scratches. I was IMPRESSED! I highly recommend Joe and his team for your move. I used this company to move from Edgewater, NJ to Paramus, NJ. It was a large move which took 2 days and 2 trucks. There were a large amount of boxes, etc. Boxes, bins were put on the wrong level, (its a 3 level home) and were mismarked. Our suitcases were filled with whatever they could find near where they were stored. They did not tell us what they did. We paid over $5,000 for the move which included packing. Today I found 2 large garment bags filled with freshly cleaned and pressed clothing in a heap on the lower level. There are two closets and 4 clothing racks on that level that the clothes could have been hung on. When I called the owner refused to do anything about it because it was May 15 when we moved. We did not notice them on the level because it was filled with boxes. I want them to pay for pressing the clothing and replacement of the broken garment bag. They refused. I would not use them again and everyone else should be AWARE of their practices. read more

We recently used Frank Richter Moving to move apartments within Hoboken (from a high rise with an elevator to a basement/ground level duplex). I obtained estimates from 3 different companies, and George at Frank Richter seemed to be the most reasonable and realistic based on our needs. I actually originally booked with another company, but ended up switching to Frank Richter - and I'm so glad I did. (Sidenote: when I canceled with the other company, the owner literally scoffed at me, which reinforced my decision to switch.) We were booked for 3 men, for an estimated 3 hours. Everything on the written estimate was clear. They do request a deposit at booking, which is applied to the total cost. On moving day, they were almost 2 hours late - however, I did appreciate that they called to let us know they were running late, and reassured us that they would definitely show up. When the team arrived, they had an extra man with them, but reassured us that pricing-wise, they would do everything to make sure the final cost was in line with the estimate that I had received from George. The entire move took less than 3 hours and I can honestly say it was the best money I spent during the moving process. A close friend of mine used Frank Richter Moving the week before and had a similarly good experience, so I feel confident in highly recommending this company if you're looking for cost-effective, reliable movers! read more

Update using Frank Richter again! The process changed a bit since last time using Frank Richter to move from a storage unit to a 2BR apartment in 2015. This time, we had a consolation a few weeks before the move to get a quote. Someone came by and took a look around to itemize each piece of furniture or thing we wanted moved. On moving day, Mike, Jim, and Glen did the moving. They were funny and easy to work with. They checked to confirm what we wanted moved at that time and what we did not. They were very delicate in the move. Mike actually remembered that he moved us in to our apartment. The prices did increase a bit since 2015 but for the quality and care they took it was worth it. read more

I have used this company twice to move. Once in 2011 and again in 2018. Both times they were incredibly professional and gave a fair estimate. I used standard moving boxes and properly prepped so they also managed to do both moves faster than I thought. The second move I was on a third story walk up and was afraid some furniture might not fit. The guys managed to get everything down the narrow stairs. The truck was packed very well and when we arrived at our house they had us set up in no time. Our second move was a fully furnished 3 bedroom apartment to a small house and we were done by mid afternoon with no problems. Always recommend them to people. read more

Should NOT have taken 5 hours to move SO close (same development different building) with 3 guys. Probably should have taken more like 3 hours. I walked away for 15 minutes a few different times to get keys/etc and virtually nothing was done while I was gone. Ridiculously overpriced to move so close, over $700 for 1 small apartment! Do not recommend - Paid for 4 men and a truck for a move that was 10 minutes away. Everything all packed and ready to leave. Everything was going smoothly until I realized an item that was moved on its own did not arrive. When I called to ask where it was, the answer was on the lines of "well, we showed you the truck - not our problem". Nothing more distasteful and appalling than a service provider who takes 0 accountability on things that are in their sole control. You can bet I'll never use this service again. read more

The crew from Frank Richter just left and honestly I could not be happier. We moved a ton of stuff from my parents in North Jersey to our home in the Catskills-145 miles upstate. From start to finish they were professional, patient with my disorganization (I was supposed to do all packing, oops sorry guys and thanks for your help) and dithering (put it here, no here, what do you think of it there?), careful with my great-grandparents antique furniture AND THE PRICE WAS VERY COMPETITIVE! I got a bid from Roadway ($5700), Allied ($4400) and then my brother in law suggested UBID an online 'marketplace". Those bids ranged from $1200-3500 but NONE of them came out to look at the items (a refrigerator from 1955 weighs much more than a new one) or really seemed more than fly by night 'guy with a van' sort of operations. George who came out from Richtner was old school, a by the books businessman and said that Allied and Roadway has over estimated the weight to charge more and that they weigh the truck before and after loading and he was sure the weight would be less. He gave me a price of $2800 INCLUDING a stop in Englewood NJ to drop off a bunch of stuff at my in-laws house. In the end it weighed less, as George predicted, and they charges us $2400. Who ever goes down in price??? The crew was terrific-Jerry is a prince among men and Carl and Greg were both wonderful too. Just nice guys who work hard and earned more than the tips we had to give them. I don't review often and I was recently told by a shower door installer "you're the kind of person who is never happy!!!" (dude, you cracked two tiles and chipped the glass door. but that's a different story) but in truth I AM picky and exacting. If someone just does an OK job I usually don't bother writing a review. But with all the lower price bids I got on that UBID it was certainly tempting to go a little cheaper. But then I thought about the desk and chairs and china from my great-grandparents and I went with a business that had been around for a long time just like those heirlooms and I am very glad I did. Remember people, you get what you pay for. Moving Ikea stuff, maybe go lowball but if you care about the things and your walls and woodwork then I can without reservation recommend Richter.
