Stopped by Frankie's Jazz club and we had good time. They were playing live music and it was fun. Parking: Finding parking was little bit hard the front recommended to park at the hotel garage, but it was full, so we decided to park behind the building. (Public parking) it was little bit sketchy, so do not leave any personal stuff in the car. Food: I ordered mushroom ravioli and I loved the sauce and stuffed mushroom inside of the ravioli. Just happened to stroll by this place, as it is adjacent to our hotel. Came in for a light dinner and saw a jazz trio perform. The music was outstanding, as well the venue, service and food. Sat at the bar. The bartender never missed a beat. Started with an old fashioned, then switched to a locally produced red wine that was very good. Great food, old-school nightclub feel, and real jazz. My wife and I had a reservation, but we still felt lucky to be seated at the table right up front,center stage. I happened to have earplugs with me, and needed them, as we were so close to the action. If we were any further back I would have been fine without them. What a fun night out at Frankie's! You need to reserve a table online, to see a live show its $17.50/pp. You need a credit card to reserve. This amount gets added to your food or drink bill when you arrive. Food was delicious. They make most of their own pasta so I highly recommend. I ordered the rigatoni with Italian sausage and it was perfect. Great flavour, bite size pieces of tasty sausage and the pasta was cooked perfectly. Drink menu is extensive and wine is reasonably priced. We ordered a bottle of Gray Monk Pinot Gris for $40.00. The jazz was awesome. The bands change weekly it seems so we happen to see Kuya Quintet, they were great. loved it. We will be back for sure! read more

The music and food were incredible. Enjoyed the fresh salmon salad and a fruit forward Malbec. Loved hearing Lewis Nash, Peter Washinqton, and Mike Allen for his CD release of "Just Like Magic". The venue has excellent acoustics and the staff is friendly. read more

This restaurant is likely the most pompous in Vancouver. Booked a reservation weeks ago as a standard table. Hostess attempted to seat us at a communal table and when we asked for something different we were told by the infantile hostess that no other tables were available even tho multiple tables had not been sat yet. This restaurant clearly needs to be more specific when a table is booked by informing the guests that communal tables are present. The bartender/manager was completely inflexible and rude and told us too bad. Without a doubt the most disturbing individual was the hostess. Frustrated, annoyed and rude are just a few words to describe her behavior. Clearly she should pick a different profession. Avoid this place they don't deserve the business. read more

Overall it's a pretty nice place. The jazz was good. The food and service was hit and miss. We had pasta. The flavours were good, but casarecce boscaiola was way past al dente hard and pancetta tastes a little stale. The misto olives were good. Perfect balance of flavours served warm. We didnt order the calamari but some table did and it stunk up the place like fish. The mussels weren't super fresh either, but it was ok. The service was hit and miss. One server was nice the other sort of rude. One forgot to ask us if we wanted fresh ground pepper or cheese the other realize they served us an order that we didnt put through and took it off the bill. I came here to celebrate a friends 21st birthday, and minus the beautiful singing, it was a terrible experience. The waiter barely came around or acknowledged us, only gave water or cheese to one of our friends then just disregarded the rest of us or walked away before we had a chance to ask for anything. We brought our friend a birthday cake, but when the waiter finally brought it out after we asked him multiple times, he didn't even bring a knife, or any plates. We literally had to dig into the gorgeous cake with our forks and ruin it, and he didn't come back around or even care. Never coming back to this place. Very disappointed with our experience, and I truly hope you can do better and be more welcoming to willing customers that appreciate old music and jazz read more

Jazz and Italian food: you can't go wrong in my books! That said, this wasn't JUST jazz and Italian food, it was good jazz and delicious Italian food. I was pleased with the menu options and portion sizes, and found everything about the experience to be of fair value. The wine menu was good, and the other beverage options seemed extensive as well. Our service was excellent (a tall, slim, blonde gentleman who deserves kudos despite noting that he's new). There is a noise policy that precludes people from having large and/or group conversations during the performance, which gives it a real dinner theatre-like experience. I personally enjoyed this, especially because the lights were still lit and soft conversation could be made in order to enjoy good company along with the music. I have been searching for a place just like this in Vancouver and am glad to have found Frankie's! read more

Pick your clients carefully Franks - you never know who might be turning off - we would have been happy to stay but you guys need some tact and we were great guests. Friday night was the second time I had visited this establishment. The first time was a reservation through Open Table (fabulous music though rather than playing the full time they only did one set because there "weren't many people", this left the evening finishing early and people arriving thinking they still had time to listen and the band was done. I saw 3 groups come and go that evening due to the music finishing early. Lost revenue and damaged reputation.) The second time we just popped in for a bite to eat before a show at the Queen Elizabeth. The Garlic prawns were in a tomato bisque that was so delicious. I could have just spent all evening dipping bread into eat. Even the server said that is the best she has ever seen it look. What ever you did that night with the dish, keep doing it. The Margarita pizza was really good. The crust could have done with a little less olive oil and the tomato sauce was a little bland but the bocconcini was the best I have tasted in a long time. The service was professional and very friendly. In the right spot at the right time. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is due to the shortened show on the first visit. Please don't do that again as we will be back for sure! read more

Michelle, the hostess and greeter at the restaurant's service more than impressed me. We made the reservation in person 1 week in advance. The nature of our group composition required special attention that normal hostess would neglect. Not only did Michelle took note of our party demography, she called me a few hours before our reservation time to tell me that the band that night was going to be unusually loud. She relocated our booked table to somewhere else in the room that turned out good. I am impressed with her service. Will return because of Michelle. Will recommend my music lover friends. read more

Bad management, bad food, bad policy. We'd never been before and were excited to attend the jazz fest based on reviews. After paying cover and ordering a bottle of bubbly and dinner, we were promptly told by are server that we could not speak for the rest of the night. No talking. At all. In a restaurant/club. Amplified jazz and no whispering at all. We were rudely told on two occasions that we could not even whisper even though their policy card on the table said keep conversation low so as not to disturb performers or other guests. Food arrived after a long wait and was flavourless. What a horrible experience. Our server told us she hated having to tell her customers that they couldn't speak and her table behind us was literally in tears from the request. This place is a waste of time and money. read more

Hands down, the best jazz club in Vancouver. With considerate and creative programming by the former owner of the beloved Jazz Cellar working with Coastal Jazz, the venue hosts the best of the city and incredible touring acts. People go here to listen to music like a soft-seat concert, thus the quiet/listening policy. If you want to visit with your date or friends, arrive early and then take advantage of the substantial break between sets. Sometimes there are other genres like soul, Latin, country-tinged jazz, but mostly there's lots of great vocal, bebop and straight-ahead instrumental jazz acts featured. Beautiful piano; rare to find in restaurant music venues in Vancouver. Check the schedule, get on the newsletter list, read the bio and explore the links to find out if what's on is to your taste and then make a reservation through Open Table so you get a closer seat. I have got to see acclaimed performers or groups up-close at Frankie's that sell out larger venues in NYC; we locals feel lucky to have Frankie's and so many great shows happening each week. While attendees are listening, they can enjoy the cuisine from the shared Frankie's Italian Restaurant kitchen next door. I am an avid jazz fan and have eaten here many times... one I'll highlight... the mushroom risotto is incredible. The restaurant next door is also popular and serves locals, its hotel guests and diners before stadium events; the food is fresh. The staff are all lovely, and I have been to this venue a couple times a month since it opened and have never had anything but a fantastic experience be it alone at the bar, with my husband, or with friends at a larger table. read more

I've been here so many times and have forgotten to review until now. I must say I was prompted to write because we had such a positive experience a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday night. Our server was a gentleman who had been working there for 23 years, he told us! How can one do such a demanding job and remain so pleasant after 23 years? Normally the service is not all that great actually (typically young women who make themselves scarce and not all that interested in good service). But with this gentleman we were thoroughly impressed! We'll try to come back on Saturdays and sit in his section everytime from now on. Good service makes all the difference in my books. Aside from that, the positive review is for the amazing music we've been privy to in the past and I don't mind the no talking rule at all. It's nice to have a serious place to go hear good music, much like the VSO. There are plenty of other places to go to eat and have atmospheric music in the background. The cover on weekends is $25 be warned. But worth it. This place is highly regarded for a reason. read more

Loved this place! I have never been to a live jazz club before and I was pleasantly surprised on how much fun we had. Dinner was amazing. The show was GREAT. I got goosebumps several times. (cheesy, I know but i did!) I splurged for the Filet Mignon and am so glad I did. Meat was cooked perfect, medium rare. They had the best scalloped potatoes to go with it. I was only in Vancouver for one night and am so happy the concierge at my hotel (The Shangri-La) told me about this amazing venue. Reservations required. $20 fee per person charge, but worth it in my opinion. Especially if you're a live Jazz music fan. read more

A little pricey though plus cover charge ($15 which unless you knew in advance the host did not warn you about). My wife and I went to see the Anton Shwartz Quintet with another couple on Saturday May 6th. We had great seats and the band was fantastic. Our dinners were also very nice and the service was excellent. All in all Frankie's is a great venue and we're lucky to have it in Vancouver. Kudos also to Coastal Jazz. However there was one problem that would make me think twice about returning. My wife had two Margaritas and I had two Pisco Sours. Neither of us felt a thing. There was very little if any alcohol in these drinks. This is becoming typical of Vancouver clubs and restaurants. Frankie's isn't the only offender. It's disappointing because the whole point of a club is to loosen up, enjoy the music and get a little happy. Tough to do with watered down drinks. Bad policy. read more

Go for the music, which is great. Probably the best venue in Vancouver for Blues and Jazz. The food was hit and miss for the four of us, ranging from good for a salad, ok for calamari and pizza, and 'inedible' for lasagna that was burnt and so rubbery it required a knife to cut! Probably there are better entrees, but I don't think we will return for food. The music however, was most enjoyable. And we'll go back for that. read more

Been to some of the best jazz bars in New Orleans, never have I been asked to shut up by a patron......do yourself a favour if you want to chat, don't go! Food was adequate, gnocchi was over salty and that coming from a Italian friend. Never again! read more

MUSIC--A+++--fives stars FOOD--excellent--better than I can ever remember it here. We had the rigatoni and the halibut special. BAR--Just OK. Very friendly, helpful young man, but he fell behind. Maybe they need two bar tenders on busy nights. NOISE during the music--the servers seating guests need to say VERY clearly that if they are sitting in the front half of the restaurant, they will not be able to talk, at all, during the music. To say, "Keep your speaking voices down" just doesn't work. To be heard over the music, they must talk LOUDER than the music, thereby disturbing everyone trying to listen. The EMCEE also needs to say this precise thing, "Please, no coversation at all during the music." It's unfair to both sets of guests if this isn't made clear the moment people come in the door and again by the EMCEE before each set. read more
