Three phalanopsis orchids

I almost don't want to give this little secret away. Nestled in the back of Palolo Valley after the Korean Temple is Kawamoto Orchid Nursery. Besides their large selection of Orchids are an assortment of plants, flower, succulents, and air plants. I have a black thumb and can't keep anything alive. But I come here for inexpensive DIY gifts for others. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable.

Orchids and air plants ... if you're in search of either on Oahu, this is the place! Located deep in Palolo, the nursery is has different levels and the lower ones can be steep to get to but the main level has more than enough plants to suit most needs. Prices are extremely reasonable compared to what you see at the big box home goods stores or even other commercial nurseries - $2-$3 for Tillandsia that typically go for $7-$8 elsewhere, for instance. The orchids, however, are the show stoppers and it's worth the drive just to see the many flowering varieties they have. I didn't realize orchids can be fragrant until I stepped inside their showroom! In addition to the many potted varieties, they also sell many types of hanging varieties. Worth the drive just to see the orchids!

Decided to try out this place after researching nurseries that were certified so we could bring home some unique orchids to the mainland. Although this place has TONs of different orchids, there was smaller bunch of orchids that were actually flowering. Perhaps there were about 30ish different kinds of orchids in their main greenhouse that were selling orchids with flowers? There were some unusual orchids that I had never seen before with smaller varieties of orchids. BROWSING THEIR WEBSITE: Apparently, they have descriptions online of orchids they sell and ship that indicate what are the most unusual collector orchids. But i wasn't aware w of it at the time and I believe there weren't any that were being displayed and flowering at the time. But had I known, I would have asked to see them. OUR PURCHASE: Ends up that I didn't buy any super unusual ones but I'm glad I got some that appear to be hearty. We had to catch a flight the same day, otherwise we would have loved to stay much longer and look at all the varieties. Apart from the ones that are flowering they have a HUGE array of non flowering orchids in the other outdoor areas. And they have a huge section of air plants outside. I only wish I had more time to look through them! We ended up buying 3 healthy orchids ($20 each) and 2 air-plants. Costs of the orchids are $15 and up and most of them are about $20. If you are going to the mainland, they can either ship it for you or you can pay $20 for them to certify and pack it all in a box to hand carry on the plane. One of my orchids already has new shoots that are growing from the branch/stem just a few days after arriving on the mainland. And the one with small flowers uniquely and delightfully smells of baby powder! So happy with my purchase and I hope they won't die on me in the colder mainland weather. It all kind of added up in costs especially w the packing fee, but it was one of my most favorite "souvenirs" from hawaii. THE PACKAGING: Of special note is the packing!! Don't be afraid to buy and bring onboard to take home! Packaging is absolutely top notch! Compared to another very well known orchid nursery we went to in Kona, this place did a superb job of packing! The other place charged about the same to pack and threw it all in a make shift carrier made out of coke can boxes with no padded protection at all for my beautiful plants. But here, they use high quality waxed crepe paper and sheets of soft cottony material around the leaves and flowers and then wrapped in newspaper and then taped securely to the box (!!) to ensure that the plants are protected during travel. There was not a single flower, branch, or leaf that was destroyed on transport! Absolutely amazing w peace of mind that my beautiful orchids would make it home safely on the rough transport. They really know what they are doing! If you're in Honolulu this is a great place to buy orchids to take home.

Cyndy's Bottom Line: Beautiful assortment of orchids *Hours: Mon-Sat: 8am-3pm, Closed: Sun & Holidays *Look for and follow the orchids signs on the side of the road deep into Palolo Valley. *Sharp left turn, slow down as you approach the nursery *Parking available with about 10 stalls *Attentive, friendly service. *Credit cards accepted. *They will nicely box up your orchids for the drive home. *They ship to the Mainland. and sell on eBay Website: Kawamotoorchids.com, e-mail: orchidsebay@yahoo.com Kawamoto Orchid Nursery (KON) has been in business since 1947. A third generation business. Located in the beautiful, cool, lush and tranquil Palolo Valley. Visiting the nursery is delightful and relaxing to see all the blooms and the endless amount of orchids. The KON has a wide variety of beautiful healthy orchids and has a section of exotic plants too. The owners and staff are very helpful and knowledgeable if you have questions. They also provide plant rental services, orchid center pieces and custom arrangements. The website contains their Orchid Store for online purchases, posting of upcoming orchids shows and great orchid care tips too. Worth the visit, highly recommend!

Amy and her grandson (I'm not sure what his name is) are welcoming & helpful. Came here to find my grandmother's favorite orchid after doing LOADS of research where to find a specific one. AND THEY HAD IT!!! Came back to try and buy more but hasn't had in stock for awhile. ***TIP: If you want it, GET IT. Quality of the plants definitely meets their price. Do not miss the opportunity to walk through their greenhouses in the back. Showroom is always pristine. Can see how their business is award winning.

I have wanted a popcorn orchid for the longest time so for my birthday my kids tracked down Kawamoto's Orchid Nursery. They called were told yes they had several so we took a drive to the back of Pālolo Valley. Luckily there are a few signs as you near the place but watch for a fairly steep turn to your left. What an amazing place filled with so many orchids! They have a showroom/main shop filled with flowering orchids but you can wander through several greenhouses too where chickens and roosters roam about. I got my popcorn orchid but added another stunning red I've never seen before. The popcorn orchid was not pricey maybe $20 and the blooms lasted a month. They red one was one of their specialties and much pricier so I bought one not yet in bloom since it was cheaper and waited for it to bloom. Kawamoto's seems to be a family business that's been around for a long time. The love and care they give their plants show. I've been back again since now I want to have a blooming orchid in my house all the time!

Since I start plant hobby due to quarantine life, I collected healthy and beautiful plants. This place is located on waiomao road. It was 10min drive from 10th Avenue. There are enough parking lots. Omg this place is huge. So many kinds of plants with reasonable price. I came here for air plants. Usually it's $5.95 at some big store but here is around $3. All air plants price range is $2-$15. I got 5 and it was $18. They have some pots and woods for air plants.( I Forgot to take a picture). This place has clean air, quiet and so blessed! Definitely I go back and highly recommended!

Absolutely ethereal. So relaxing to come here and walk through the various selections of plants that they have in the nursery. I especially was excited to see that they added an exotic plants section. When they say exotic plants she meant ExoTiC plants because some of the plants that I saw I had never seen grown to that extent or maturity in real-life before! I love this place and definitely is such a great to wall through for a therapeutic day with family and/or friends.

Wow! Randomly came across a FB ad for airplants and am so glad I visited! Tucked in the back of Palolo Valley, there are hundreds...maybe thousands, of airplants. Tons of different varieties, small and large, ranging from $3 to over a $100. My daughter and I loved roaming the aisles and picking a variety of plants out. Highly recommend this local nursery - won't go anywhere else!

I loved this place. Unfortunately I didn't have space in my luggage to carry any more plants but boy did I wanted to. I loved their selection.

Koolau Farmers is a locally owned/operated nursery and garden supply business that are home…read moregardening experts. It was started in 1938 by East Oahu farmers and a Kailua papaya cooperative as a farmer-founded business entity that shifted from farming to home gardening. Today, it supplies plants, floral arrangements, fertilizers, pesticides, garden tools, etc. for home gardeners. There are currently two locations for Koolau Farmers: Kaneohe and Honolulu (McCully). This review is for the Honolulu location. Items that the McCully location carry include: bromeliads, flowers, fruit, orchids, palms, fruit trees, peppers, tropical fruits, shrubs, soil, trees, veggies, hono hono orchids, dwarf fruit trees (Meyer lemon, Tahitian limes, Naval oranges, jabong, grafted mango, avocado). It also offers seed starting supplies, fertilizers for plants and flowers, worm composting bins; and info re growing and care of indoor potted plants, organic gardening, soil testing, and proper lighting. What brought us to Koolau Farmers is my lilikoi vine that I've had in my back yard for a number of years. With the help of bees, the vine had flourished and produced many delicious fruits for homemade lilikoi desserts, such as lilikoi chiffon pie, lilikoi curd, lilikoi bars, and more. But in recent years, the flowers would bloom, but because there are no bees to pollinate the lilikoi flowers, no fruits are produced. Questions to Koolau Farmers confirmed that there is a lack of nesting sites for carpenter bees (I think they're known as the black bumblebees that we no longer see) to pollinate the lilikoi flowers, resulting in a lack of fruit. According to Koolau Farmers, the flowers must be hand-pollinated instead. Staff provided instructions to my hubby on how to hand-pollinate the beautiful lilikoi flowers. A work in progress, and I'm sure more questions to follow. Then the next project will be our dwarf local orange tree. Where is the fruit? There's a single tiny orange on it, yes, only one! Hope Koolau Farmers can help us on this one! Another work in progress. Staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and provides helpful guidance. An unlikely spot in urban Honolulu to have a nursery and garden supply store, but I'm glad that it's there! The interior space is not that big, but houses boxes of fertilizers and various home gardening equipment for home gardeners. There may be displays of seasonal items on how to grow certain plants, such as hono hono orchids. Open daily from 8a to 5p. Free parking in the private lot. On the outside private lot are scattered variety of healthy local plants, herbs, orchids, and fruit trees. We look forward in working with Koolau Farmers and knowing that they are there to help us with our home gardening needs!

It can be really tough to find the right florist...someone you truly trust with your wedding's…read morefloral design. I initially chose a different florist, but as the process unfolded, I began to have doubts. I decided to keep looking and ultimately found Plant Hawaii--and I'm so glad I did! Working with Scot and the entire team was an incredible experience from start to finish. They were excellent communicators, truly listened to our vision, and created stunning inspiration boards that perfectly captured our theme. What stood out most was how collaborative and transparent the entire process felt. Their online portal was fantastic. It clearly showed each floral request, counts, inspiration photos, and costs. Their suggestions were beautiful and thoughtful. In addition, they were upfront about pricing every step of the way. These are two very important things to consider when selecting a florist. First, having an online portal made it incredibly easy to make adjustments together and immediately see changes reflected in the proposal. Second, clarity around flowers and pricing felt surprisingly difficult when speaking with other florists. Plant Hawaii stood out because they were so clear, organized, and transparent by comparison. On the wedding day, Scot and his team arrived and immediately jumped into action. As a planner, coordinating vendors can be stressful, but Plant Hawaii needed no direction. They built a breathtaking ceremony arch, placed all aisle and reception florals, handed me the bride's bouquet, and made sure I knew exactly where all the leis were. Everything was seamless and effortless. Florals truly set the tone for a wedding, and Plant Hawaii delivered the most jaw-dropping tropical Hawaiian arrangements. The bride envisioned a sunset palette, and the team quite literally painted a sunset sky with flowers. Their attention to detail, artistry, and love for what they do showed in every single element. Mahalo nui to Scot and the Plant Hawaii team. We are so grateful to have worked together! If you're considering them, don't wait!! They are the best!!!

Q: What do I do on weekends?…read more A: Plant shop, but not at Plant Hawaii. New hours as of last week, Mon-Fri only. Closed on weekends. I've actually been there on the days and hours that they say they are open but they were closed. I pressed the Ring button as instructed, but no response. I got into my car but spied another family coming to the parking lot. I got out of the car and followed them. Somehow they had the magic that I didn't have, and got a lovely young girl to open up the shop. I tagged right along, glad that I didn't drive away when I was going to. The girl was really nice. I've purchased a variety of things from them in the past: lipstick vine, hibiscus and etc. The prices are pretty good; hibiscus on the pricier side but they have the Cajun series that I crave so much. Bummer that they are not open on weekends but I totally get it.
