I had originally planned on just doing a quick lunch walk to do some bird watching but when I got there I quickly realized I'd be there longer than expected because there were so many rarer birds I had never seen and the place was so beautiful! The trail along the gorge rim was really gorgeous. Pun intended Some of the other trails inside of the woods were pretty muddy and a bit hard to follow because of the leaves, but using the alltrails app helped a lot. All of the trials were well marked too, which I really appreciated. It does seem like this place needs a bit more upkeep, but for the most part it's a really great park to walk at and it's dog friendly. All of the trails are pretty moderate and not too strenuous.

I naively came after a storm this morning and all of the trails were very wet and/or muddy. My feet are soaked leaving but I still had a good time. I saw a lot of birds including a green heron, an osprey, a bluebird, and a pair of immature trumpeter swans.

It was so quiet here and you'd never know it's right in the village! Don't follow Google Maps to the "entrance" that's right in the village. Go to the entrance that shows in the middle of a residential neighborhood. That's where the park is.

It's off of the 219 in East Concord, take the Genesee Road exit and the park is literally right on that same road about ten miles down. You will pass the Sugar Mill on your left and the specific trail that I took was on the right hand side. At sunrise, there was no one there and when we left around 10:30, there still was no one there. Except people mowing the grass... Anywhooo. The trail starts in a small hut, you cross a bridge, and then you're off. The first thing you should note is the looming trees and vast foliage. The trail is small but the trees loom tall over you. It really puts things in perspective for the hiker... you're small in comparison to the nature around you. Also, fun bonus, squirrels and wildlife were eating the acorns from the trees and dropping them near us (maybe throwing them at us? Only *they* know). The trail is several miles so you really need to dedicate a full morning to this trail. Especially since the main problem here is that the trail ends up being unmarked for small portions so you're likely to get lost, just a heads up. Don't let that deter you though because some of the best parts of the hike were the unmarked spots. Unmarked location one) We ended up near a flowing creek where you could hear nothing but the waters, your own wavering breath, and the birds overhead. There's nothing more I love than those combination of sounds to form tranquility. Breathe in, exhale, release. Unmarked location two) At sunrise we were already deep into the forest and stumbled upon an open field. Now here's the cool part about the open field: looking straight into the field gives you a simple perspective. Open field, light, awesome. But when you turn your head slightly to catch the light from a different angle, there were HUNDREDS of spider webs formed on different leaves with spiders inching up the webs. You're probably thinking "Oh my god, spiders..." but it was such an incredible thing to witness. And you could only see them if you changed your perspective slightly... I can't wait to come back here! This was only one trail, but there were some on the other side of the road as well (near the Sugar Mill). The Forestry Bureau seems like a huge expanse of land, made up of intertwining trails that lead you everywhere and nowhere. If you're looking for a bit of a break from the chaos in life, a prescription of a hike might be in order! Try this trail and experience the beauty of nature for yourself.

The rocks in some area in the creek are tough so water shoes or crocs are recommended. There is a ton of flat spaces though once past the rocks and it's really awesome to just play there on the edge of it with the current pushing you along to the deeper side.

Trout fishermen love it here during the spring and fall months best known for trout fishing. People will pile ontop of eachother while casting. It's also a nice park for a quick hike or picnic with the family! There are two parking lots, one on each side of the creek but please be mindful of where you are walking/fishing. When you get there and find a parking spot, you're greeted with a rustic, barely beaten hiking trail path, a miniature trestle bridge, and a fairly spectacular waterfall! As stated, the path is rustic... as in take your hiking shoes and watch your step! The path is just a trodden walkway through the foliage; you're surrounded by green! The stream is of a decent size and makes an enjoyable view as you walk the path. It's a fisherman friendly stream as well. The fishermen there were hoping to catch trout or bass and camped out along the banks near the bridge. If you have a rod and reel handy, you can try your luck out too! You might even get a chance like we did to see a bald eagle fly overhead! Just stay close to the path though. We spotted clumps of poison ivy edging towards the trail in more than one location.

Interesting facts learned on fireflies: they like leafy dark areas, eat slugs, and snails and really lite up the park. Paved trail, not very long, perfect for quick walk or hike to explore the many trees. Family, everyone friendly.
