Shot of the falls in the background from a small overlook near the parking lot!

Wow, totally low-key obsessed with this little park! It's the summer of hiking, and I've been trying to explore as many little hidden gems, parks, and hiking trails as possible. This is a state park, located in Springville just a couple of miles from where the 219 ends. Scoby Dam Park is right down Scoby Hill Road, and at the Dead End is the entrance to the park. Be sure to park to the left of the Dead End sign, as the right side is private property. This place has a very short & sweet history lesson: the Scoby Dam plant was constructed in 1925, placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. Right at the parking lot you can get a pretty gorgeous view of the water streaming over the dam! There are tons of rocks below so it's tough to get closer to the water from there, but further down the path there are a few fairly steep, but manageable declines where you can get a closer view of the falls. The trail you'll follow (just through the gates) is partially still an access road, but once you follow it you'll discover some really nice scenery and foliage. All the way at the end you'll find yourself underneath the bridges that are Cascade Rd and the 219. Overall, you'll get some pretty breathtaking views here, and what's awesome about this place is the fact that you don't have to trail hard to find them! I would totally recommend this place for people who are just starting to get into hiking, or like an easy stroll. Totally worth a visit if you're heading to/through Chataqua County.

This is a great little park with some unique features. The dam is super cool and offers some stunning views during autumn around the creek. The grade of the path is very easy and you can follow it for a nice distance past the top of the dam and the way to the overpass for some stunning views of the gorge from below. The path is gravel and is an in and out of maybe a mile in total and there is a nice parking area at the beginning. There is plenty of area to fish if you want to try your luck and just enjoy the scenic beauty of this little park!

I can't help to think about Scooby do! Lol. I don't know how my friend found all this place for hiking. She planned, I showed up. Very interesting park. Nice view, easy walk, different. I like how quiet, a bit obscure not many people visit this place. For a little quiet walk, I'll come back here again.

What an excellent hidden gem to discover! This park, which is just past the town of Springville, has a gorgeous dam, accessible trails through the woods, and a great viewpoint of the bridge on Route 219 that crosses above you. Only about 40 minutes from Buffalo, you can easily do some fishing or take a ton of pictures during a leisurely stroll. I don't have much more to add-just check it out!

What a beautiful walk through the woods at Scoby Dam!

Cool hidden gem! Bring water shoes so you can walk in the water below the dam. Really pretty place!

In honor of hiking on The Weekly Yelp Buffalo, here's another one for all of your beautiful hearts…read more The Erie County Forestry Bureau cannot be put into words how stunningly gorgeous it really is. It's off of the 219 in East Concord, take the Genesee Road exit and the park is literally right on that same road about ten miles down. You will pass the Sugar Mill on your left and the specific trail that I took was on the right hand side. At sunrise, there was no one there and when we left around 10:30, there still was no one there. Except people mowing the grass... Anywhooo. The trail starts in a small hut, you cross a bridge, and then you're off. The first thing you should note is the looming trees and vast foliage. The trail is small but the trees loom tall over you. It really puts things in perspective for the hiker... you're small in comparison to the nature around you. Also, fun bonus, squirrels and wildlife were eating the acorns from the trees and dropping them near us (maybe throwing them at us? Only *they* know). The trail is several miles so you really need to dedicate a full morning to this trail. Especially since the main problem here is that the trail ends up being unmarked for small portions so you're likely to get lost, just a heads up. Don't let that deter you though because some of the best parts of the hike were the unmarked spots. Unmarked location one) We ended up near a flowing creek where you could hear nothing but the waters, your own wavering breath, and the birds overhead. There's nothing more I love than those combination of sounds to form tranquility. Breathe in, exhale, release. Unmarked location two) At sunrise we were already deep into the forest and stumbled upon an open field. Now here's the cool part about the open field: looking straight into the field gives you a simple perspective. Open field, light, awesome. But when you turn your head slightly to catch the light from a different angle, there were HUNDREDS of spider webs formed on different leaves with spiders inching up the webs. You're probably thinking "Oh my god, spiders..." but it was such an incredible thing to witness. And you could only see them if you changed your perspective slightly... I can't wait to come back here! This was only one trail, but there were some on the other side of the road as well (near the Sugar Mill). The Forestry Bureau seems like a huge expanse of land, made up of intertwining trails that lead you everywhere and nowhere. If you're looking for a bit of a break from the chaos in life, a prescription of a hike might be in order! Try this trail and experience the beauty of nature for yourself.
