Fantastic little meal! Smoked meats and poutine are a must when visiting Montreal and I was worried that some places might be tourist traps or gimmicky but this spot has great food. We shared the smoked meats sandwich and Philly steak poutine while we sat outside and people watched. I would absolutely come back and maybe enjoy a local beer at the bar. Service was polite, as soon as we were sat they got hit with a lunch rush but once we placed our order it came out pretty quickly. 10/10 read more

A great spot along this fun cobblestone road! A lot of choices here and this is one of them. Service was slow even though they weren't busy. Waitress and one of the other staff left and walked about the corner and in to the alley for 10 minutes while people waited to place their order. They also forgot my drink. Heard you have to try a Smoked Meat Sandwich while in Montreal. We researched a few places, but stumbled upon this while exploring the streets near our hotel. We couldn't leave Montreal without trying smoked meat! On the hunt we go for one close to Cirque du Soleil and Pointe a Calliere. I found Franklin's Subs and Suds and it didn't disappoint! It was during the FIFA World Cup so all the TV at the bars were showing this. There is seating indoors as well as patio seating. We ordered a Philly cheesesteak, smoked meat sandwich, chicken sandwich and fish and chips. They were all really good! The fries were well seasoned. The virgin Pina colada hit the spot. Went for the poutine but the chicken wings were the star. Really liked how they were prepared, juicy and crispy with nice spices. We stumbled across this place while looking for a lunch spot and since we wanted to get smoked meat and poutine this seemed to be a good fit! The smoked meat sandwich was tasty and if you haven't had it before it is somewhat similar to corned beef. The poutine was also good per the family member who had that. The decor is fun particularly if you're a member of Gen X. One heads up if you're visiting with kids who ask a lot of questions, one entire wall is covered with Playboy covers. family. when i tell you the kind of cheesesteak snobbery i performed before eating at this place...i showed my true delco/philly side...only to be thoroughly impressed by tristan and his father Lu Vic's version of philly cheesesteak poutine. y'all if could have smuggled anything across the boarder (besides a hockey player or 2) it would have been this meal! Staff was friendly, virgin lemonade with dried lemon was very flavorful and enjoyable and thirst quenching. I had a petit Quebec which I couldn't find online. So it is probably a sandwich special. I am someone prone to go for the specials. That being said. the ingredients were reasonably fine and I like this had some veggies with it but I don't think the combo work. There was lettuce, tomato, smoked meat, other things. We walked in on a Tuesday supper. The place looked interesting with a terrace and interesting decor. The music was nice. We ordered a couple of beers on tap. They don't have much choice on tap. Ordered the Poutine ($8.50), Hot Dog ($3), and a draft IPA ($?). Food took a while to come by, though the cook was by his lonesome. Beer came first, and it definitely was not an IPA (after some back and forth, it was determined they didn't change the keg). Poutine is good - basic gravy, curds, and fries - proper balance. We were in the old port and feeling a bit hungry and saw the sign for Franklin's and through that we would check it out. Turned out that the had a vegetarian sub, which is not always a given, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered the Beyond Meat sub and an order of onion rings. I have to say that the sub was by far the best sub I've had since I stopped eating meat. It was juicy, messy and everything that a good sub should be. Jean Francois (pictured) is a great source of information if you're looking for where to go and what to do while in town. He's also very willing do do a few shots of Jamo with you, on the house. If you go to Franklins later in the afternoon, Makenzie will be just as friendly, will also make you the best milkshake in Canada, fully loaded. (Warning to some, one wall is decorated with old Playboy covers, NO nudity, but just in case.) The smoked meat poutine was good, but not great. If I could, I would give Franklin's a 3.5 (instead of a 3). The service is friendly, the decor is unique (not often will you have a wall covered in old Playboy magazines), its open late, and the food isn't bad. It's just not that great, and not that fresh. A few little tweaks here and there could help this place take off (better quality buns for the cheesesteaks and hot dogs, slightly fresher toppings, a unique ingredient or two to add to the pretty basic poutine). Also, I actually came here because of the variety of cool milkshake options on their menu, only to find out they weren't serving milkshakes at all (a pretty big letdown).
