Came in to get a tune up on my bike and was blessed with the homie who gave me a full run down and tutorial on on parts, tools and riding tips to get me back on the roads/trails. Free repair! I came in on a Thursday thinking I was gonna have to pay. I replaced my tire because I got a puncture in it. Got a tire repair kit, then put the tire on. The 4 holes on the back are for a rack, not for your derailleur. I waited like 5 mins to get it fixed. Not too long. The person helped fix and explain it easily. Highly recommend. read more

Great local bicycle shop in the heart of Franklinton. Franklinton Cycleworks is also a nonprofit, and is focused on the community. They have a great selection of used bikes, do repairs, and are very friendly. This is a great place to donate your used bikes, or to buy a great used bike that their bicycle experts have gone over and made any needed repairs. read more

My bike is now optimized by the shop making it an American made trek converted to 700 rims dialed in and perfect bike as opposed to new one. BTW they have excellent used bikes or bring one in as opposed to buying new. Thanks again! read more

Didn't feel like fully replacing my bike for a new one so I brought it here for repairs. Job was done quick, mechanic called me twice with updates. Picked it up, paid, and I was out the door. Haven't had a hiccup since. Way better option than taking it to some bike shop on Lane Ave where water bottles for your bike are $1,000, helmets $3,000, and repairs reserved only for designer bikes purchased from their shop for $5,000 and up! Screw that, I'll bring it back here every time for bargain basement repair prices. read more

This place is amazing. We were on the hunt for a new bicycle for our son. We've done the looking through Facebook, going to local bike stores, and surfing garage sales. Franklinton Cycle was where we landed, and we feel very comfortable about our purchase. Good quality bikes ( as far as we know) helpful people, and a price that doesn't make us gag. And throwing the nonprofit nature on top of all that is icing on the cake. We will be back when our daughter needs a new bike. read more

I got a bike from here. This shop is really an awesome place to buy good quality used and refurbished bikes. The person that we spoke to showed us some good bikes that were being worked on. I was able to tell him to reserve the bike that I liked, and he called me exactly when the staff was done working on the bike and it was ready for sale. The staff is top-notch and knowledgeable and even better they have a large assortment of accessories and used parts to make your bike the talk of the town! I returned with my granddaughter today to look for a bike for her as she has grown and needs a larger one. We found helpful staff, good options and a very nice bike for her at a great price. We also returned (later) with a very tired bike to donate, and again, later, with a bike which needed their tools to replace the very tired seat with another one we had. Staff were helpful all around and we are much better equiped now. Did I mention that my granddaughter was offered a free helment in great condition at no cost? read more

Columbus's westside bicycle co-op definitely has it together. They participate in a number of community events and have several outreach programs to benefit people in need, things that went missing over time at the other co-op in town. Their space is well organized, large, and inviting. Work areas are open and accessible, and on no visits have I seen anyone barred from the work floor, which I have seen elsewhere. Not only that, but these are great guys who truly want to see bicycling take hold in this city. They went out of their way to help me fix up a number of bikes I was readying for a ride I was hosting for a large group of out-of-towners. I brought in, I think, 8 bikes that were broken in some manner or other, and left with 8 functioning bikes. Some of these problems I could address myself, but the volunteer staff was happy to help with those I couldn't. They even let me store the bikes there for several days before and after the ride. One of the volunteers even accompanied us on the ride. All of my experiences with Franklinton Cycleworks have been fantastic. I consider it the best example of bicycle advocacy in the city, and we have quite a few bike advocacy groups at this point so that's saying something. read more

Excellent co-op! Friendly, helpful volunteers, big space for open shop (twice the size of Third Hand, which equals more room for more workers), plenty of communal tools. I've met one if the managers, Jonathan (via phone), and he was more than willing to help out with a community event that a friend and I are organizing - knowledgable management! I got to the shop at 7 pm - it's Tuesday night Volunteer Nite. Volunteers come and help clean up the place, organize items, converse to get everyone on the same page. Thus, it was not crowded at all, which was a plus (I didn't have to worry about talking over other people, or getting their attention). I am thoroughly excited to spend time fixing up bikes for our event. I'm planning on taking their Bike Maintainance course, they are hoping to offer it again starting in June. I will then be more of a help during volunteer hours, because I'll get a chance to apply the knowledge I learned in class. Like they say: if you don't use it, you'll loose it :D read more

This bicycle co-op is a treasure for Franklinton, the Columbus West Side and all of the Columbus cycling community, especially those of us who have not the finances for purchasing and maintaining their bike through retail Local Bike Shops. It also provides a place for people to retire bicycles and parts no longer needed through donation. The store sells donated bikes that volunteers recondition for superb prices and helps community members learn to maintain their bicycles. You can also have your bike worked on by staff for probably just a little less than the LBS would charge but the money goes to help the co-op which helps keep a traditionally struggling community able to roll to work or to stores on two wheels and embrace many aspects of cycling as sport. You can find mountain bikes, hybrids, road bikes and some inventory of new and used parts for all. Even great used tires for $5 and repaired tubes for $1, something you will not find if you have to go to an ordinary retail store or a Local Bike Shop. read more

Amazing place and super helpful people! We went here for the first time to have our bikes checked out before Pelotonia and everyone was very helpful. There was one actual employee tonight but tons of volunteers ready to help one another and one guy, Harry helped me fix everything on my bike! It's a very great community and I would love toward more so I can start volunteering here myself. In the couple hours I was there I learned so much about bikes and can't wait to share the knowledge! I checked out the co-op during the Go West! neighborhood festival (good stuff). There's community outreach to teach residents the how-tos of biking and repair and you can stop in to get help repairing your bike when they're open (Mondays and Saturdays right now). It all depends on volunteers, so if you know how to fix bikes unlike myself (I almost always manage to make things worse) you might want to consider getting involved in this community asset. Not only that, but they're working on getting a coffee bar (Poverello) in the front up and running (the pour over I had was delish), as if the bike co-op part wasn't already the best thing to happen to W Broad in years. Hopefully, the right Columbusites will take notice and there will be more good places opening up nearby this year so that there will be more to bike to in the area. read more
