I normally don't review on Yelp, but I think that Frank and his team deserve a shout out. I drove up without an appointment to get a quote on having my seat cover replaced on my Subaru Forester. Frank gave me a fair quote and said if I gave him a day's notice and dropped it off in the morning he could do it. Two days later I dropped it off at 9A and got it back at 12:30P. I was completely blown away by the impeccable work done by Franks Auto Upholstery. I had been living over a year with a torn ratty leather center console in my VW BEETLE that had completely come apart, dreading the cost to fix it. The dealer and body shops all quoted $600-$700 to replace it. Then one of them suggested that an auto upholstery shop might be able to fix it. I brought in my 2013 VW Golf to get the center console frame replaced. Mine was starting to deteriorate, which seems to be a problem with a lot of European cars from that time. I brought in an after-market replacement and asked Frank his opinion and for an estimate on the labor. He was super honest with me about what they can and can't do, and what might happen if the piece didn't fit (they would still have to charge me for the labor). I totally understood this and appreciated the up-front and transparent communication. Frank and team completed the job that day, and while the piece didn't fit perfectly (due to it being a sort of cheap after-market purchase and not an official VW replacement), they did a fantastic job and I was satisfied with the result. Frank and I chatted quite a bit about upholstery businesses in general, and I really enjoyed his candid and honest insight. Thank goodness for Yelp, I had called around searching for a mechanic that does auto upholstery but couldn't find one until I searched this app and read reviews and found Frank. I cannot thank Frank and his team enough for replacing the roof of my convertible after a large part of a tree fell on it and ripped a foot long tear over the driver's seat. I stopped by for a consultation and he was very kind and took his time to show me exactly what needed to be done. He even cleared out a drain on my car door that I didn't even know existed when I told him how the door had filled with rain water during a recent storm. He gave an affordable quote and we got started. Before the new top came in, there was going to be another storm so he asked me to stop by and kindly put a patch over the roof to protect the interior. They replaced the top in record time, I couldn't believe how quickly. I didn't need to have a rental car for long at all. The quality of the new top is fantastic, it looks beautiful! Like a new car! Wow! He also added some cushion to my driver's seat back chair when he noticed a piece of metal was protruding. It is so much more comfortable now! He asked me to text him pictures which I did. He called as soon as he got them and explained everything he would have to do and gave me an estimate. Terrible experience with Franck. I asked him to have a look at my Porsche 964 to replace the whole carpet from white to black. He quoted 1200 USD with imported fabric or 1050 USD with local fabric, and told me he 'had a lot of experience in those cars'. I shook hands with him for 1200USD. He took the car. A week later he dropped the car at my local shop in Silverlake with an invoice of 1450 USD. When I gave him a call to have some explanations, he told me : "Yeah but we had to do the center console and the door pockets", which I answered: "Yes it's part of the carpet set, remember I asked you a quote for a carpet set and you said you had a lot of experience on those, plus if there was extra charge, why don't you just give me a call to get my approval first?", which he answered a very arrogant manners : "I don't deal with you anymore I deal with the shop where is your car", which I answered : "Fine then, did you give them a call then to get the extra cost approved?" which he didn't even care to answer, just letting me know I was "bothering him" in his work and that would be 1450 USD and if I was not happy it would be the same. Well, first of all I ended up NOT paying the 1450 USD but the 1200 USD as planed, and second I promised him to write down this review to make sure other customers would not get a similar experience. I own several classic cars, and I always have some in restoration. In the past I always used New Life Upholstery on Venice and never had any problems with them (I did 6 cars with them). I did 2 cars with Franck, and both of them let me with a very frustrating and bad experience. You just don't shake hands at 1200 USD and present a 1450 USD invoice at the end, if you are professional like you say you are, you know what "full carpet set" means. read more

This review is so long overdue and for that I apologize to Francisco. I had my little '95 Nissan p/u recarpeted with a new headliner about a year ago. The job was excellently done and a bargain for the quality. Other places might be a bit cheaper but Francisco's quality is up there with places that cost two and three times what he charges. Additionally, I was in a rush to drop my vehicle off in front of his place on San Fernando and I totally forgot to clean all the junk out of my car!
