This is a great locally-owned restaurant to try in the Danville/Avon area. The interior is spacious and has a unique but welcoming ambiance. At first I was worried because the person who greeted us when we first came in didn't even look at us, she grabbed menus and walked away, she didn't say hi or ask us to follow her. But everyone else at the restaurant was friendly. Frank's Place is a great choice if you are in the mood for non-chain Italian food. They have some great pasta entrees, I especially enjoy the tortellini with prosciutto and the spumoni is amazing! The chicken Marsala is also tasty. I have heard great things about the stuffed pizza and we love the anti pasta salad (what a great lunch). We have been to Frank's many many times. Unfortunately, their biggest issue is inconsistency. At times the cook is phenomenal as is the service, other times both are only so-so. There really aren't many fancy places in eat in little Danville, but Franks is nice if you're wanting something a little classier. The atmosphere is nice, and the food is pretty tasty, though somewhat hit or miss. My biggest complaint are the prices, as they are a bit high in my opinion. The last dish I had there was something along the lines of angel hair in a red sauce with some basil. When I had come in, I smelled fresh basil, which I love. I've been here to eat a few times. Based on past visits, I would have given Frank's 3 stars. However, I have always gotten pizza. This visit, I tried the penne pasta with marinara and a garlic roll. It was really good. The pizza has always been average. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat it. But the ambiance of the restaurant is really nice. The prices are reasonable. The location is great--right on the Danville square--making it great for date night or a business lunch--and it is t crowded or loud. The service is quick and friendly, and you won't go home hungry. The only thing I would do to add one more stars is kick up the spice and seasonings a bit more on the food. If you want a nice restaurant that it impressive in Danville, your choices are somewhat limited. This place is in my top 3. read more

I love this local place! Sits on the square in Danville in a good location. Seems like it can hold a decent amount of people. The food has never disappointed, they have many options on the menu. According to my lovely mother (who would dine at the Outback Steakhouse over any other restaurant in the world ever) this place is five stars. She was in love with their stromboli calzone! According to me this place is 3 stars. We stopped in on a sleepy Saturday after checking out the farmer's market on the square. We needed somewhere cool and quiet because we had a 3 month old as a dining companion. I have noticed very quickly that some hostesses will give you the "Oh shit where do we stick a baby?" look when you walk in, but the hostess was super pleasant and showed us to private corner. We were one of maybe three tables filled (granted it was 11:45ish, so a bit early for normal lunch). Our server was friendly and recommended the calzones. I had ham with spinach, and my mom enjoyed the stromboli. The calzones, in my opinion, were A-OK. I must admit that all we had were the calzones and our drinks, so I cannot speak to the pasta, pizza or salads. read more

I really wanted to believe that the reviews so long ago had changed, and this place would be good. We had reservations and when we got there the place was a mess and it just got worse. When we left every table still has not been cleaned.. There were 4 couples that came in before we left and they had to wait while someone cleaned a table. The hostess did not help clean when there was no-one to seat. The server Justin had only been there 4 days which was a disaster he couldn't remember to bring anything that was asked of him, and couldn't make suggestions other than the pizza. Other reviews talked about the service. I think the only people that keep this business going is the town of Danville. The portions are very small for the price. The Lasagna was so small that they put extra sauce to fill the bowl. The chicken picata was ok. The pasta served with it was very bland, and I had to ask for more sauce. The salad had the wrong dressing on the side, lettuce was iceberg with one slice tomato. The soup was decent. I told a lady waitress,didn't catch her name, about the issues we were having. She was going to tell her boss. No-one came to the table to talk to me about it, not that it mattered..I told her they need help, alot of help. Driving from Plainfield to here wasn't a trip around the corner. Again, I will never be back especially after spending 50.00 plus dollars for 2 glasses of wine, and 2 dishes of food. Frank's is a pretty decent place. For Danville, it's downright lovely. The decor is simple but classy, the prices are reasonable, and the food is above-par, if lacking a certain sizzle. It's good, it's not bland, but it doesn't quite hit the spot. In a range of limited options though, it's a good choice. Great food and locally owned. Our favorite item on the menu is the stuffed pizza. The rest of the menu is filled with homemade Italian meals, priced comparable to what you would find at Olive Garden. The restaurant is housed in an older building and the interior brick walls add a nice atmosphere. My husband ate here for lunch for the first time the day before Valentine's Day and thought it was so good he made us a reservation for Valentine's Day dinner the next night. The table was ready when we arrived and the sever was somewhat attentive. We ordered a glass of wine but she never offered us another which was probably best in the long run but if she had offered me another I would have said yes. I noticed the servers all seemed to be very young (they couldn't serve the wine) I would expect to see more mature servers in a place where I paid $66 for the meal. Anyway my husband got the lasagna which he loved. He loved how meaty it was. I got the spinach artichoke ravioli. I didn't taste the artichoke at all but the sauce was very good. Tasted fresh and homemade. The salad was very fresh as well. We ordered the special champagne cake for dessert and that was the worst $5 piece of cake I've ever eaten. It was so dry it could've cut your throat. Overall the meal was very good. Service was ok (could have been a little better but it wasn't horrible). What a let down. After reading the reviews - most of them positive - we decided to give this place a try. The atmosphere is nice, casual and charming. Our server was pleasant but not very attentive. The warm bread - tasted like it was from a can and you were served margarine with it - not real bitter or better yet olive oil for dipping. The salad was good though generic - iceberg lettuce with a couple of olives, one tomato slice and some cheese. Our main dishes were lasagna and chicken Michelangelo (chicken is a red pepper cream sauce). First the lasagna - tasted like they heated up a TV dinner. It wasn't fresh at all, barely any cheese, and the noodles were rubber. The chicken was ok - nothing I would go out of my way to eat again. There was very little sauce and a bunch of dices peppers covering a barely sautéed thin chicken breast. It came with a side of pasta and I have to say the marinara sauce on that was the best part of the meal. We had a view of the kitchen and saw their desserts were not freshly made either so we passed. I love a good local restaurant and hate to give bad reviews to the independent guys but this place was awful. read more

We have been here at least 10 times. It's our favorite local restaurant in Hendricks county. The grilled chicken salad is perfect.

If you're in Danville and want a nicer restaurant... well this is pretty much the only choice. It's good Italian food and locally owned. My favorites are the tortellini and manicotti, but everything I've had is excellent. Good choice for pizza as well. Highly recommend the Italian Margarita as a drink selection! As always is the case in Danville, the water/fountain drinks taste funny sometimes, as Danville's water in general tastes kind of funky. Not the fault of the restaurants however. read more
