This is not Deep dish pizza

Was tricked by deep dish on the menu. What was delivered was a large square. With a thick crust that was rock hard, nearly inedible. Don't order deep dish from this place..it is NOT deep dish. Closer to normal Sicilian but omg..the several day old bread for a crust..huge waste of money very disappointing

My daughter wanted pasta for a pre-birthday dinner and she decided on Sal's. She had the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken which she thought was pretty good, though chicken was shredded which seemed unusual in this dish to me. I had the Pizziaolla (similar to chicken parmigiana but not breaded). It was really good, with tender, and thin chicken breasts. The dish had a light red sauce with tomatoes and mushrooms, and a bed of spaghetti. My wife had chicken parmigiana which I didn't try, but she remarked it was not warm at all, and from my seat it didn't look great. They were pretty busy, and food took a bit. Wait staff was attentive. Overall, food was good but not great on this visit. Apologies, I ate part of the dish before I took the picture.

The food here is INCREDIBLE. I have never gotten something here that I did not enjoy. My family from out of town always request to come here. It is so so good. The one thing that we have noticed every time we dine in is it usually does take a while. We have done both takeout and dine in and if we are in more of a rush we will do takeout! Highly recommend!! My favorite thing to get here is meat ravioli! I also love their pizza.

Celebrated a late birthday here on a rainy Wednesday eve. I was pleasantly surprised to see there were many occupied tables when we arrived! We intended to dine outside in the wine garden area, but obviously Mother Nature had different plans! We were seated quickly in the dining room which is cozy in an Italian family sort of way. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. Our salads arrived quickly; one exception was an appetizer mussel special which took a few minutes longer but was presented beautifully when it arrived. All were fresh and flavorful, as well. We chose calzones and a spinach roll as our entrées. These were quite large and none of us could finished the whole order so we had leftovers for the next day. We then paid via Apple pay and went on our way. I'm a sucker for a locally owned restaurant and Sal's has yet to disappoint us!

Sat immediately, even with a pretty full house. Friendly service. Fettuccine Alfredo was creamy and rich. Plate was hot and steaming.

    Love their pizza.

We love Sal's pizza and salad. It is our go to for take out. They also have delicious pasta. You can't go wrong with anything you order. The staff are great and attentive. The restaurant is warm and inviting. They have it all decorated for the holidays. If you're looking for a good Italian restaurant in Plai girls this is the place.

Sals is a local favorite of our whole family for weekend dinners together. We always are treated like family, especially our little Charlie who the owner always comes over to personally say hi to. They've done some recent renovations to their patio and main dining room that add an extra charm. They have great classic Italian food and wood-fired pizzas. It's a cozy, classy, welcoming and clean restaurant with great service and wonderful menu great for any occasion. Today they're hosting a Christmas lunch event with Santa waving to passersby and visiting with the kids that come to see him. Inside the festivities continued with beautiful Christmas decorations, trays of chewy delicious cookies, other treats, and hot coco. We love coming here anytime but today was a special treat! It was a lot of fun! Thanks Sals!

This was my first time trying Sal's and I was very impressed. I stopped in during dinner time on a Friday night and was in-and-out with a carry out order right on my order time. You'd think you were watching an episode of The Bear with how much movement I saw from the staff! Go y'all! The pizza matched that of a high-quality wood-fired pizza (which it is) and would surely get a good rating by Dave Portnoy. Additionally, the space was really nice. I managed to capture a photo of the outside before I left. The space is lovely and lives up to an authentic Italian restaurant. It's not too busy and perfect for an Italian night in or out. A firm five stars for the experience and pizza. A more critical review would be surrounding the appetizers (I got a sampler). I wasn't overly impressed with the quality. It tasted and presented like something I'd pickup from any other pizza shop. I would love to see some differentiation on that front. In addition, prices are competitive for what'd you pay for this quality. Overall, great experience. Better pizza. Brilliant decor (the outside is deceiving). I'd recommend to anyone to check it out.

I've driven past this fun spot a few times and decided for my birthday to try it! We made reservations but as it was a week night in February it wasn't busy. We were seated promptly and given our choice of socially distanced options. I like the classic and bright decor, and immediately admired the wood oven. While waiting fir our party we perused the menu and there are options for every taste. The waitress was attentive but not overly but took good care of our table. Once we got settled we ordered appetizers and enjoyed the complimentary fresh bread with an herb infused olive oil dip. It was delicious! Our appetizers were large and I have to admit next time I might just order the garlic knots as my main course! It had 4 large sized buttery concoctions (think savory cinnamon roll) that were piping hot and melting with ooey gooey cheese inside. The appetizer comes with sauce so I suggest the marinara, perfection! The second appetizer was breaded eggplant which was just so-so. It had somewhat good flavor but was too fried and rather greasy and heavy. The sauce on it was what made it edible in my opinion, so I'd skip that next time. The main courses chosen were various ravioli, pizza and a creamy pasta. I had the spinach ravioli which was perfectly al Debye, rich flavor and textures between the spinach and cheese and marinara. Yum! I split that with my husband so as to try his pizza. I loved the crust and could taste the wood fired aspect. Our choice was a bit flat and lacked a kick to it, but was done well. We probably just need to choose another pizza or different toppings. It was good but I'd try another pizza option next time. All in all everyone loved their food and given the cost the portions were generous and filling. You get a soup or salad with an entree so we did not go away unsatisfied. We will definitely go back and enjoyed the homey feeling and tasty food. It is a fun spot for some good Italian in Plainfield.

Every meal seems a little lacking and leaves you wanting a little bit more but the atmosphere and staff are nice which helps to balance the disappointment. We ordered the bruschetta as our appetizer, it was enjoyable but more olive forward than we were expecting. I ordered the arugula salad which did say it had spinach in it. However, it was a mainly spinach salad. I opted to add chicken to it and ask our waitress if the chicken was seasoned and worth the ad and she assured me that it was. Unfortunately it was not seasoned and it was very bland reminding me of the pre-packaged chicken pockets you can buy at Costco. Had I known I wouldn't have added it as it did not add anything to the salad. My friend really wanted the brussel sprout salad and apparently they did not have brussel sprouts so it was only romaine salad so she opted for a pasta dish instead. We appreciated our waitress giving us the heads up and confirming that she still wanted the salad with the changes that would be made to it. We ended the evening by sharing a tiramisu for her birthday along with an espresso martini. The dessert options were nice, but the espresso martini wasn't traditional; it was more Baileys-forward than expected. Overall, it's a decent restaurant for a casual meal but it hasn't offered anything that would make us eager to return or crave another visit.

The owner, Felipe Espay, personally placed all the pizza boxes into the venue's warming oven himself, told me to leave it on for 'no longer than 10 minutes,' and explicitly instructed me to turn it off so they would just stay warm for the event. I set a timer and followed his instructions exactly. Despite this, the gluten-free pizza arrived severely burnt and inedible (see attached photos), leaving the guest of honor without her meal. The rest of the bulk pizza order was also heavily overcooked, featuring virtually no cheese and a rubbery, hard-to-chew crust. Because I was hosting a busy party, I only managed to photograph the burnt gluten-free pizza before realizing toward the end of the event that guests weren't eating what should have been high-quality, authentic Italian pizza. While the owner did eventually refund the gluten-free pizza, his follow-up emails defensively blamed me for overcooking the food in a deactivated oven. Sadly, after years of loyalty, we will not be returning due to this terrible quality control and refusal to take responsibility.
