I'm a Pasadena local and I live about 10 minutes away. I had left my purse with Frank the Saturday before the Eaton Canyon fire started, for context. I had evacuated; my home is okay. So when I came back over a week later, I tried to pick up the repaired purse. I didn't know his situation and I just wanted to make sure that he remembered what my item looked like. We had a bit of a language barrier but I showed him via the purse I was wearing that day where I had requested the repair and his face lit up. He was very apologetic. He lives in Altadena and mentioned the fire. I didn't press him and left him with my number. He called the next day and said it was ready. It's the best repair I could've asked for and only $40 for both loops replaced. This is a $300 item so it was worth it. Frank is so kind; he didn't want to charge me the last $10 (I only had $30 on me when I dropped it off initially) because I had to come back twice, but I insisted. I forget whether he lost his home or it was so damaged and the air so toxic that he couldn't come back. Despite all the trauma he's undergone, he remained very friendly and professional. I'd give this business negative stars if I could. Absolutely terrible service!! I requested that 4 items of clothing be altered. Frank even pinned and marked clothing where appropriate as I tried them on. He charged me an outrageous amount, but I thought at least the clothing will fit correctly. He took a month to do what he claimed would take 2wks. One pair of pants had the widths uneven--I didn't even request that this be altered. Another pair had the legs hemmed ~5ins shorter than requested! The 3rd pair had the legs hemmed, & again, another alteration I never requested. The material was torn everywhere. He shortened the brocade border in a way that I didn't request. When I called to complain to Frank, he said "What do you want to do--kill me?! Just come in but just don't bring a gun" Highly incompetent, tremendously unprofessional--really a terrible business. My friend recommended but warned that he's good just not great. I went in w/somewhat low expectations, but I didn't need perfect--just good enough. This is far below expectations!! Absolutely terrible service. He was also completely insensitive to the fact that, in this terrible economy, people can't afford to be ripped off and scammed or have expensive clothing ruined. I am so sad to write this review but the writing has been on the wall for quite some time. I have been to Franks for years and it is always hit or miss. Never on time has ruined items, everything is "so much work" or "too hard will cost a lot", "so much fabric on that hem". Call to pick up, needs one more day or week, etc etc. Prices have doubled, "you know, the pandemic"? What, same shop, same tailoring. But when he attempts to gerryrig a repair, that is another story. This store is a gem. The owner/operator Frank is such a pleasant guy who cares about every repair like it's his own personal items. I had old (but wonderfully broken in) Kobe X's I took a chance on with Frank as a test pair. They were ripping around the ankle area and pretty dirty around the lowers. Frank cleaned them up beautifully and sewed the ripped parts back together with a leather seal (blending into the black trim perfectly). He def exceeded all my expectations and I essentially got my Kobe's back to play in for a good additional year or two. Worth the $50 vs buying a new pair, which is especially true now with Kobe's as they are $180 minimum and good luck finding your size unless you're paying a premium in StockX. Planning on being a regular here and taking some more of my older Jordans and Nikes for Frank to restore. Don't bother with a test since I did it for you, just take whatever repairs you need done so Frank can service them and you can check those repairs you've been waiting on as DONE! read more

I took in two pairs of my husbands dress shoes late in the afternoon and Frank had them ready the following morning. He touched up some scrapes and cleaned them up and had them looking like new. I had my leather jacket altered at the sleeves (shortened) and Frank screwed it up. It's too bad that a $35 alteration ruined a $500 jacket. First, the inner lining was so loose that it stuck out from inside; second, the stitching was never tied up properly; third, he glued some parts but not others (which shows visually); and lastly, it was not ready at the time and day he promised so I had to wait an additional 40 minutes (I told him NOT to rush it, but obviously he did). I should've paid $5 more and have gone down the block to South Lake Tailor. Just because this is a leather shop does not mean he will do a better job. Learn from my mistake. UPDATE. The owner has the nerve to tell me that the inner lining does not ruin the jacket and that I should have taken it back. Por fa vor. Please. Number one, why would I go back to a place that obviously does not know what they are doing; and number two, it wasn't the lining that ruined it but the uneven glue. I would not go here for tailoring or alterations if you want a professional job. I can't speak to shoe repair. I was so disappointed by the job done to a suede skirt I brought in. It was brand new and came back to me looking like it had been attacked by a sewing machine. The lining was snagged, the thread colors did not match and there were two very obvious darts which he did not tell me would be necessary. This is the place to go for leather. I brought in 1 pair of shoes, and 1 pair of boots. The work was exceptional. This is the only place that I will take my shoes from now on. The pair of shoes that I brought in were used everyday for three and a half years. They made them look like brand new. The boots that I brought in were 35 years old. They look clean and ready to wear for another 35 years. The knowledge and the expertise is shown in the quality of their work. I also saw a number of leather bags and purses that were being repaired. I have no doubt that they will be done with the same precision as my shoes. I suggest that you let them take their time as this kind of quality can't be hurried. My hero!! I came to Frank with a super last minute alteration request on my wedding (reception) dress. Literally brought him my dress one week before my wedding reception and told him I needed it in six days. I had bought a last minute dress that I loved, and it fit great, except it wouldn't zip up all the way. He looked at my dress, had me try it on and quickly agreed to take on the project. He had it ready when promised BUT the zipper was getting stuck halfway, so I ended up having to leave it and pick it up the morning of my reception. I didn't even have time try it on until I was getting ready in our hotel room! So risky, but his confidence made me feel confident and damn was I blown away by his work! I dropped off a pair off scuffed hiking boots and picked them up looking worse than they did before. They appear to have been haphazardly and unevenly smeared with a yellowing polish that doesn't match the original color of the boots. This polish was even hastily applied to the soles which are now severely stained and discolored. I paid $20 for a service which appears to have taken no longer than ten minutes.
