I walked in with short notice during the Christmas holiday period, and Alex was obviously practiced and therefore expert in advising me on how to fix my purse. He quoted me a fair price and said I'll be done in 20 minutes. I went for a walk and lo and behold he was done. My bag was as good as new. A very satisfied customer here. (By the way a young man interrupted our consultation with a demand that he fix his athletic shoes. I brought my pair of handmade Italian leather sandals here to be fixed. The sole had come apart on one shoe after walking hundreds of miles in them on many trips. I also tend to wear out the back of my heels on my shoes and often need them redone. They did a great job on both the repair and replacing the heel! One star off because I had asked them to shine and polish/condition the sandals too though they're not in terrible condition. He said it would be an extra charge for the service. Alex is expert, and honest. I have brought several pairs of shoes in to Alex. Most recently, he dyed a pair of all weather boots that I've had for a few years, and the result was well beyond my expectations. I loved the boots, but never the colour, so he dyed them black, and shined them up, and they look better than when I bought them. I brought in a pair which he stretched for me. He did such a great job that I brought in another pair I had just bought. This time, he told me I should buy the next size up, because he didn't want to risk damaging the shoe. I brought in a pair of leather Sperry top-siders to be widened. They went from being a huge struggle to put on (and intensely uncomfortable to wear) to feeling like CLOUDS. I can't believe they're the same shoes! Alex also checked which foot is larger to make sure he widened that one a little bit more for a truly custom fit. Great little neighborhood shoe repair and locksmith. Alex helped me with a pair of boots that were uncomfortable. He asked a lot of questions about the fit and where they were pinching. He was able to figure out that the insole was too thick, squeezing my heel. He took them out and with some trial and error, and a properly fitted new pair of insoles they're super comfortable now. read more

I was charged $40 for getting my low pump heels somewhat fixed and the leather somewhat cleaned. It was a rush job because I was leaving town the next day. I appreciated being seen last minute but the overall job did not seem worth $40. It's s cool old school shop though. Next time, I'll price compare and maybe come back! Architectural detail State of the art equipment Open 24 hrs a day None of the above statements apply to this joint. Thankfully, none of them matter. On every visit I've made here there has been just 1 employee present (that would be Robert). The sign on the door says they open at 9:30, but sometimes it's more like 9:45. The same sign also notes that they are closed from 2:30-4:00 for lunch (hey, a man's gotta eat). What we are dealing with here is a sole-proprietor. Mr. Robert is a pretty no nonsense guy. When you arrive place your goods on the counter and allow him to take a look at them. If he sees something wrong with your kicks he'll let you know. If he doesn't he'll simply ask you what you need. A straight shine will run you $6. He does a good job on leather but I've never allowed him to work on my exotics (I only trust a select few to handle my exotics). Despite the disarray you may see in the shop, your shoes should be fine. I arrived at 9:40 only to have Robert arrive 2 minutes later. One pair of dress shoes, one pair of black "boots", both needed minor work on the heels, both needed shines. The tally was $25 dollars. Robert requested a $10 dollar deposit but was thoroughly satisfied with the lone $7 I had on me. Like I said, this place is old school, cash only. Even though he initially told me to pick them up the next day, he agreed to have them ready by 5pm when I asked. When I picked the shoes up they looked nice. They looked so nice I tried in vain to leave a tip but he refused. Robert is a stand up guy; 'nuff said. I would walk out the door with 5 things; a smile, my shoes and my balls...all scuff free. read more

After six years, the soles of my very well-worn and much loved Blundstone boots gave up the ghost. I don't buy Blunnie's line that they aren't worth resoling, either. So I took them to Alex for a little overdue attention. My boots were promised by end of day Tuesday. The Friday before they were supposed to be ready, I got a call that he had finished the work early. I swung by to get them. Not only did Alex do a great job on the soles, but he refinished the leather for free. Now my boots look new again! (A few Yelpers noted parking and payment. It is sooooo hard to find a good shoe repair place - I was so pleased to have found this place! I have had so many bad experiences from over charging to long wait times for an item to return to half baked work. My experience with this shop was the total opposite. The person working there, Alex, was able to return the shoes to me quickly (he offered the next day) and exceeded my expectations. He also fixed a minor blemish on the boots I was wearing on the spot and for no additional charge. His rates are reasonable (the man's got to eat and feed his family!), but the pay is worth every penny! The parking is a bit of a pain, but his service and job allows me to give him 5 starts.
