My husband and I are working parents and we don't have time to cook most nights so we use Frannys or other delivery services. We've slowly turned to other options. The food is good, although I wished she would disclose allergy info as we do have a kid who has allergies. My other gripes are she's super old school. She only accepts checks, or cash. She's the only service I use checks for and it's really an antiquated system that only works for her. In this world of payment on the spot she'd rather have you put a check under your mat?! I had a pretty bad medical scare recently and we were gifted four deliveries from Franny's Kitchen once I was released from the hospital. We've receive three so far. Each meal was absolutely delicious. My kid really liked the first two--a teriyaki chicken and spaghetti and meatballs. Our third meal was Indian. My usually adventurous eater just won't touch Indian, but husband and I gorged ourselves. The website is out of date, so sign up for weekly emails to get the low down on next week's menu. Yeah....no...Sorry... We have had Franny's delivered to our office for the last 3 weeks. And I have to say the food is bland to ordinary. Not to mention they give you "extras" in your food (explained later). First if you LOVE cilantro, you will absolutely adore Franny's like a goddess. They put cilantro in everything. If they delivered water, they'd have a few cilantro leaves as a garnish..Lemon? ha that's so passe. I for one detest cilantro. So with every meal I end up scraping/picking out the garden of cilantro leaves. Here's a hint Franny....how about leaving the garnishing on the side? Leave it up to us to add it if we wanted it? I had some sort of southwestern style gumbo soup today..yes it had the dreaded cilantro on the top...so I plucked it out. But that wasn't enough. The offensive garnish is minced and blended with the rest of the soup. Wow...cilantro soup...not so yummy. I suffered through the soup and washed it down with their complementary salad. No cilantro for once. But..here's the bonus extra! There was a 2-3" long black hair in the salad!! woo hoo! cha ching! You win a cigar! Of course I didn't notice this until about halfway through the salad. Pretty gross. I'll now have to wash down the salad with shampoo and conditioner. Oh..and the dressing is at the bottom of the salad container. So you have to dig through your salad to get to the little container of ranch dressing. It's like a daily Cracker Jack box. I'm taking myself off the list of Frannys. Not my cup of cilant...er...tea. read more

Franny's food is consistently good. Her menus include a wide variety of cuisine including Indian and Latin and the food is fresh. The salads are gorgeous and creative and just one part of the meal. Her portions are good too. We always have left overs for lunch the next day. We just enjoyed a fantastic Beef Stew on St. Patrick's day. I love her Eggplant and Ricotta Pasta, her Chicken Picadillo, Cauliflower Fritters, Holiday SUGAR COOKIES, curry. Too many dishes to name. Delivery is always on time. Very honest. We are just concluding our month-plus stay in San Francisco. While here, we were fortunate enough to be directed to Franny's Kitchen for weekly meals that were delivered to our place. We were told that the menu would be eclectic and principally inspired by the fresh produce and other ingredients that Franny is able to procure. The meals did not disappoint. The ingredients were indeed fresh. The salads were often a medley of fresh spinach, lettuce, herbs, arugula, and other leafy greens that tasted like they were just picked from the garden. The greens were never wilty. They were vibrant and crisp. The varied dressings were delightful and healthy. The main courses were also unforgettable. We particularly enjoyed the creamy sweet potato lentil curry with cauliflower rice; the sausage, mushroom, and pea fafalle pasta; the BBQ rubbed roasted pork loin; zucchini walnut fritter with feta tsatsiki; and the roasted cauliflower soup. As you can see, the menu is eclectic. Always fresh with unique blend of spices. While her flavoring, to some, may be mild, I believe it is flavorful enough with the additional room for you to spice it to your taste. We also visited various restaurants during our stay. I am so grateful to Franny's Kitchen. With a stressful job, long commute and a toddler running a muck, the last thing I want to do is come home and cook a meal! We order Franny's Kitchen every week. We love it. The dinners are made daily and delivered between 3-5:30pm. One of the best parts of Franny's Kitchen is the ingredients, there's a hint of South American flavor and an abundance of nutritious ingredients. I really appreciate the low-fat, healthy nature of her cooking. It's so much better than restaurant delivery, in fact it doesn't even compare. I don't know why I wrote that. If you want delicious home cooking without the hassle, you have to try Franny's Kitchen. Note, my husband and I found the portions to be on the smaller side. We now order 3 servings and it's perfect. The price is still better than buying all the ingredients and cooking it yourself. But who am I kidding, I would never be able to cook anything comparable like Frances does. read more

Our whole family LOVES Franny's Kitchen!! We order at least 3 out of 4 meals each week, and are never disappointed. My 5 and almost-7 year old kids usually try her food, and are usually surprised that they like it. Sometimes it's a little spicy for them, but those meals often end up being my husband and my favorites. At least our kids are trying new foods and widening their palate. We love getting food from all over the international palate (her occasional Indian food, in our humble opinion, is excellent, and our older one has discovered that she loves it too). All of her Latin American food is just great, and we have discovered foods we've never heard of before (things you probably won't find in a SF taqueria, as she says). Our kids love her meat loaf, her pork chops, her pasta, her salmon cakes, and many others. I LOVE her Thai food, which I otherwise don't often get, as both of my girls have nut allergies and we've been warned by our allergist to stay away from Thai and Chinese restaurants where peanut sauce and peanut oils are so prevelant. Frances' wide-range of cooking abilities is simply amazing! And then as yet another added bonus, she asks US for menu suggestions. My older daughter loves chicken pot pie, so after I mentioned it in an email, Frances made her version of chicken pot pie -- you should have seen the big happy smile on my daughter's face that night!! Not only was it delicious, but she felt so special to have had HER favorite food cooked that day! Sometimes we order meals that we suspect the kids might not like, just as a treat for us hard-working parents. Frances rarely repeats meals, but when she repeats favorite ones, we jump for joy! Some of her ingredients are organic, and we love that she often cooks with brown rice, rather than boring, starchy white rice. We also love when she cooks with whole wheat pasta. She also tries to keep an eye out on making meals lower in fat, which we all can appreciate. And, her huge fresh salads (with different homemade dressings on the side) or yummy grilled veggies usually accompany the main dishes. I'm otherwise not great about getting in vegetables, so she helps keep me healthier in that department too! We heard about her service over 4 years ago from a fellow preschool mom, but doubted how good it could be. We started getting her meals a year ago, when our older daughter went off to kindergarten and we were faced with schlepping all over SF to get from work to our younger daughter's preschool, and then across town to get our older daughter from elementary school. As two working parents, the thought of arriving home around 5pm and then having to start cooking was just TOO much. And the thought of trying to find parking and then dragging 2 young kids into a restaurant to pick up take-out was not appealing. Then we remembered our friends' advice. We looked thru our old emails, and found Franny. The first week of Franny's Kitchen was like heaven!! That cooler on our front doorstep with delicious food inside was just too good to be true. Then, an added bonus of no pots and pans to clean. And we've happily continued ever since. Our only thought has been, "why didn't we do this SOONER!" Financially, I agree with the other comments. You'd be hard pressed to get equally good (and healthy) food as take-out from a restaurant. Maybe burritos, but not a lot else. That makes us feel good too -- it's been a bit of a luxury to arrive home to her yummy food, but not a budget-breaking one. You can order as many portions each day, and as many days (Mon-Thurs) each week that you want to. You're not obligated to anything. Each week is a new order that you place the weekend before (by Sunday noon). We order 3 portions, and my kids split one. When they really love something, we then wish we'd ordered 4 portions! When they don't love something, my husband and I then have yummy leftovers for a Saturday lunch. She does take some vacation, and we miss her cooking those weeks, but everyone is entitled to time off with family! We've used Franny's Kitchen for several years now, but she is so rude that we had to stop. Our food was stolen once, so she asked us for a gate key, which we gave her. Then she lost our gate key, and when our food was stolen again, she refused to refund our money and blamed us for not having a safe place where she could leave the order. She also told me that because I hadn't contacted her immediately after the food was not delivered, it wasn't her fault. Give me a break - we are all juggling work and kids and on the night when her food didn't show up, we were a little preoccupied with feeding our family. She's not worth the trouble or the attitude. I LOVE to eat good food, and having time to grocery shop and cook is not in my cards these days. The food is seriously some of the best I've ever had - and I am very picky. I just love the attention to detail that Franny puts into her meals. She finely dices all the veggies, the spiciness is absolutely perfect, the meats are so fresh and tender. You can't go wrong ordering meals from Franny. They are yummy, fresh, organic and have our uber-picky 5-year old asking for a taste! Just this last Monday, we had a Latin style Torta Sabrosa (whole wheat tortilla with smashed potato, sauteed onions, tomatoes, zucchini, corn and roasted red peppers) and watched in amazement as our two daughters gobbled it up. As two working parents, these meals give us variety in our diet and a real treat at dinner time. They provide the joy of eating out (something we could never whip up) at an extremely reasonable price. Franny has been delivering home-cooked meals to my family for over 2 years. We never tire of her cooking. It's healthy--there almost always is a big green salad included. It's varied, with a lot of ethnic dishes in the rotation and very few repeats. It's flavorful--she is not afraid to use spice in her food. The prices are low, and often cheaper than take-out, and she delivers the meals inside our door so they are waiting, warm and ready to eat, when we get home from work.
