The Taro is not fresh. It taste like the freezer. I've been coming for 4 weeks in a row now and the Taro has that old freezer after taste. Taro is not fresh at all. My 1st time I was able to witness how the food was so fresh and has a good taste of the Polynesian flavor. I haven't tasted everything just yet but I will make a plan to stop by again very soon. This is a childhood staple for me, my dad used to take me here. I don't think there's another spot in the city that serves Samoan food. You walk in, it's a counter space to the left that sells accessories, jewelry, keychains etc. all from Samoa. The right side of the store has clothing and ie lavalavas. The food is in the back, cafeteria style serving of course. What they make everyday is half the same as usual and other days it's different. But there's always taro, fa'i (plantains), and sapasui(noodles). I got a regular plate, I opted for all fa'i and no taro. It came with sapasui, fasi povi(corned beef), and Turkey tails. When I tell you the Turkey tails do it every time for me. Slow cooked in gravy with veggies, tender and fall of the bone. Just delicious. The corned beef is a little on the salty side but I just assume it's from cooking in such large batches. The older woman (I call her aunty every time I go in) she's so kind, asks how I'm doing, how my dad and my kids are. It's like walking into your family's place. Always feel welcome. I love love love this place. My family and I have gone here for years (I'm surprised this is my first Yelp review about the place). It is located near the Cow Palace and pretty easy to get to from across the Bay Bridge. I legit don't mind driving here from the other side of the bridge for this food. I've had Samoan food elsewhere in the East Bay and it simply does not compare. The food is always fresh and delicious. The staff is nice and sweet, always greeting you as you walk in. The plates are $20 I believe and they come with taro, banana and 3 other items of your choice ranging from sapasui, corned beef, turkey tail, lamb curry, etc. The lamb curry is freaking BOMB and don't forget to get some palusami while you're at it. I think my mom and I have gone here weekly this summer lol but that's because it is SO good. Can't wait to see them again next week! read more

First off i been coming here since levi closed born and raised in city . Cant believe they charged me 21 dollars for large plate its always a different server this lady that served me i known her for living in sunnydale projects so why do your people like that . Not asking for anything free but really the owner lady always scoops and hooks my plate up because i come there alot . I cant believe my plate is the way it looks and she didnt even add my sausage . No one was in there and its Friday. Thats bad smh no wonder yall went down to 3 days and is not having buisiness like yall should . Good-decent Polynesian food. second time here and it's a hit or miss. First visit the food tasted fresh. Second time, it was alright. Both times were in the early afternoon so it wasn't timing of the day. We also may have caught the lady preparing the food at the front, on a bad day because she was not friendly at all. I was in the area and I came here. It wasn't busy. When the lady opened the food, it didn't look appetizing at all. I got some noodles which weren't good because it had ginger which I cant stand. This was our 2nd time picking up food from here and it was so delicious and worth the drive. Because we live about an hr and half away, we bought multiple plates. We got the plates which comes with taro and green banana and 3 sides. Every dish is it's own flavors and perfectly cooked! It's definitely your home cooked poly food. The staff are very friendly especially the lady that works at the register. She always makes my family and I so welcomed. Also, they sell Polynesian clothes and accessories and it's absolutely beautiful! It's the only place my Mom and I buy our puletasis. This place is such a gem! read more

Food is good however don't eat Cornbeef due to its saltiness and roughness. And it tasted as of leftover from previous days. I was told this place tent to reused leftovers, rewashed corn beef for next day meals. They can really make someone sick as a friend of mine had food poisoned eating food from this place. They can really turned this place a much better food place if they put their hearts in it. I have not visited here since instead I made my own. It's much safer. I was sad when the Polynesian place up the block closed several years ago. The other day I walked by this place (which I always assumed only sold clothing) and saw people eating outside. Decided to come by today and to my delight they serve Polynesian food! Now don't come expecting poke or lau lau or kalua pork. The food here is more typical of home style cooking, something I've always appreciated. Anyhow, for around 15 bucks, you get a banana and a taro along with your choice of three items. You can pick any three and you can't go wrong. The highlights were the sausage, the lamb curry, the tuna in coconut, and he corn beef. Come in with an open mind and an appreciation for home style island food and you won't be disappointed. Otherwise, you might wanna drive to the nearest LL Hawaiian drive in. I wish they also sold the coconut drink with the fruit inside (like that place in San Mateo has before they too closed down). Seems these Mom pop island "restaurants" never last. Food here is really good, very home style and local. The plate for $20 can easily feed two for dinner with leftovers. Pretty wide choice of dishes are offered. I went outside my zone with Turkey Tail, which turns out to be delicious. Like Hawaii, everyone who works here is your auntie, very friendly. Some good island themed merchandise, too, with an impressive island music selection. But the story for me was the food. Awesome. read more

I love that this business is still going. It was very nostalgic walking into the store and smelling the authentic Polynesian food while browsing the imported goods from the islands. Nothing really special about this place aside from the fact that it is here. They offer different varieties of clothing from Hawaiian shirts to dresses, Polynesian jewelry, Polynesian music and fabrics. The food is always the reason my family and I go here. The food is charged by weight and it is tasty when eaten fresh. The place is a little small, and it has always been that way. I wonder how much room can be made by removing things that look like they have been there since I first started shopping here years ago. It is not to say that they do not have a variety, but there is very little walking space for patrons who need a little more walking space. If you are reading this and you have never tried Polynesian food, I would encourage you to visit this establishment. The people are friendly, and are willing and ready to serve. The downside is the parking and the area where parking is available. Be sure that you lock your cars and store your goods properly. This place is a place of survivors and I would love to see it revamped somehow to bring a fresh look to a old town favorite. read more

I'm just a big old Canadian guy who works for PG&E and loves ethnic foods. I usually don't know what I'm doing when I eat ethnic food but I love trying it and I love supporting local businesses. I came in to try the lamb curry and I was not disappointed. It is delicious. The curry is not like Indian curry, it's a lot thicker. It's almost like gravy. They have something of a root that's like a potato that I mixed it with and it was really good but I think next time I'm gonna get some rice from one of the Chinese places around here to mix it with. Also, I thought it was going to be a restaurant that sells clothes but it's kind of more of a place that sells clothes and music that also serves food. But whatever, I'll be back. read more

Omg stopped by here after working in SF and even though it was a detour back home to Sac, it was totally worth the experience!!!! I spent a little over $200 and stocked up on jewelry, sarongs, Bongos, pineapple half moon pies, a large case of Turkey Tail & a fat 3 item plate that consisted of Povi Masima, BBQ Chicken, Sapasui and Banana plus Taro! The staff was so nice and even offered to take my shopping into my car! I had to eat before driving off because the aromatics couldn't of been resisted! I haven't been here since the original owners probably about 11 years ago!! But I wouldn't without a single doubt, highly recommend this Restaurant you will find all you need and way more!
