Popular salon that was able to get me in on short notice. My stylist was Dimitri for a cut, color, & style. I took a chance since it was my first time there. He did not disappoint. He knows his way with scissors. I was pleased with all services. Staff were friendly & kept offering me water. I would continue with Dimitri but he only works Saturdays & Sundays. This salon has such talent! I booked with Monica to go from red to blonde. A very hard ask. Monica was amazing & sweet from the moment I first contacted her. She was very informational and answered all my questions especially in regard to such a big transition. She prioritized the strength of my hair and made me feel like I was in good hands. UPDATE as of 10/22/21 the hair distributor has confirmed directly that they have refunded all packs of hair that have been returned. Franz Salon has the refund and I have contacted the salon to confirm my knowledge of the refund and to request the refund be passed on to me, as appropriate. UPDATE: As of 10/10/21 the salon has responded to this post (below) but has still not responded to my respectful requests (see photos of emails) for a discussion, response, and resolution. Note that the salons response does not refute any information that I've shared and that this salon has STILL chosen to be non-responsive to a loyal paying customer. Their yelp response below PERFECTLY represents the reality of this business and their priorities - cash over quality, respect, and service. If you are looking for a company that prides itself on simple customer services...ya know...like responding to patrons when there are issues...this is not the salon for you. I am shocked and disappointed at the service I received. I've been a loyal patron for 2 years. I have always tipped well, and even showed up regularly at the peak of the pandemic when everyone else was too afraid to go to salons and the chairs were empty. In early summer we started having MAJOR issues with my color and hair extensions. My hair did not match the extensions at all and appeared streaky. The HOT HEADS hair was falling out in clumps. For my last two or three appointments I expressed my dissatisfaction and embarrassment and twice over the summer traveled back to the salon to allow Emma to try to fix it. Ultimately, this last time, I went back after learning that she did not put all of the hair (or even majority) we had bought in (and my hair was incredibly thin). She was nice, installed the extra hair, and I left. While Emma said she did dye the hair and it should have matched, I was horrified to go home and have people ask "what is wrong with your hair, what happened?" After the fix, I was left looking worse (see photos) as the color did not match at all. After sending photos and agreeing that these were NOT photos the salon would ever post on their IG page, I was told that they " weren't sure why this kept happening" and that I could come back, but would need to pay the $350 extension install fee for the fix, as they felt they had tried their best and couldn't spend more time on my hair for free. I was disgusted, appalled, and beyond offended. I certainly didn't install defective hair and apply mismatched color myself? If it wasn't their fault, whose fault was it? I removed the extensions myself, mailed them back, and called and spoke with Franz. He assured me he would send the hair back to HOT HEADS to be assessed for defect and would followup and make things right. Sadly, I've called 4x and emailed 3x and HAVE NEVER HEARD BACK. I am being ignored and have been forced to go elsewhere to get my hair fixed, and am contesting the credit card charges associated with the services. I'm SO SAD, that after my loyalty and spending THOUSANDS of dollars on color and extensions, I am simply being disrespected, ignored, and silenced. If it's not their fault, whose fault is it? Why would any company get to provide "service" like this, keep my $1,000+ and ignore me? Also, DO NOT PAY WITH VENMO, keep everything on your credit card so that you are protected as you cannot recover VENMO payments without taking the merchant to court. While we would like to assume merchants are good and respond, you can see from this post that is unfortunately not the case. If for some odd reason the credit card dispute is not resolved in my favor, I will pursue a claim in small claims court. This is not only unprofessional, but illegal, and it's not right to let businesses take peoples money in exchange for providing defective products and services. read more

My expectations were low since the starting point was brassy roots and silver highlights, but she turned it all around and made my dreams of being blonde again a reality. I just moved to the area and I was in desperate need of a cut and also wanted to color my hair. I have really curly hair and most people of my race would go to a black salon. I'm all for that but I really do believe that if you know your craft, you know your craft. Franz did an excellent job on my hair. He explained to me that he hasn't cut hair like mine before but he was up for the task. I told him that I wasn't open to any heat on my hair because it damages the integrity of my curls. He cut and colored my hair while it was wet. He took his time, talked me through the process, and asked me questions since I know my hair best. It turned out amazing and the color really adds definition to my hair by bringing out my coils. I will definitely return and recommend. Recently, as I have started going back to the office, Konstantine has helped me put together a clean and professional look that still highlights my curls. I have been coming to Ashley at Franz salon for a few years now. I must say that she is a perfectionist! I absolutely love this about her. She always does my hair exactly as I want and suggest what she thinks would look good but leaves it up to me to decide. In the past I have gone to other places and always come out disappointed because I never seemed to achieve the look that I want. One of the most important reason why I love coming to Ashley is because she listen and pays attention to what I say, very sensitive to my needs. I love this girl!!! The salon is immaculate, from the nice person who greats you at the entrance, to the shampoo girls, my favorite shampoo girls happen to be Maya and Jenny. Jenny is amazing and very sweet and I love talking to her. Maya is sweet and clean,she makes sure any color that may have gotten on my face is off but one of the best things about her are her magical shampoo massage hands! Amazing! Had a wonderful experience at Franz Sebastian Salon. I had been here before about a year ago and their service has only gotten better. From the receptionist to the lady who washed my hair, the costumer service was spot on. I came in for a cut and color, same day appointment over the phone. They were able to fit me in and I saw a lovely lady named Grazia. I showed her some pictures of what I wanted and she performed some magic on my hair. I wish I had a before picture but to describe my "before hair" it was grown out, frizzy and had faded color from the sun. Needless to say it needed some work. 2.5 hrs later she had colored, cut and styled my hair in such a way that I left there feeling gorgeous. I highly recommend her. She's very friendly and I felt very well tended to. I love this place and I'll definitely be back. :). 19Nov16 update: Back at it again at Franz Salon but this time with my little sister in tow! I got a shorter hair cut this time, but still with Ms Grazia. My sister (who has insanely long hair) got her hair done by Susan. Her hair was butchered by some other salon and we came here to get it fixed up nice. As per usual customer service was spot on, facility clean and the cuts were amazing. Prices are reasonable for the great service and they were able to fit us in same day appointment. It was definitely very very busy. Great place to come get pampered! read more

Ok I've tried this salon again. Good news and bad news. Bad news I let Denise do my color. Not so much that I didn't leave with anything close to the color I requested or I agreed her to do, but my disappointment comes from her attitude towards me. I was constantly accused of having put something in my hair causing it not to lighten. Like, why would I lie about that? And her entire demeanor was negative like sighing and saying ok let's see what it came out like... even not a giving me a hair cut. It was just all wrong. The nice surprise is that before I left the salon with a wet hair and entirely not what I wanted there was a stylist who was free to cut my hair. If my original booked stylist could not do my haircut she could of suggested someone else in the shop right? Nope. She was okay hearing me say that I would finish my cut and style at hair cuttery. Fortunately, Constantine was able to provide my cut and style along with pleasant conversation. Conversation that I didn't get from Denise but I chalked it up to her having a bad day, my assumption rebuked as she joyfully chatted up her next client. Then I got it. This is a predominately white salon in Bethesda duh. She seemed like the only Latina stylist. I'm Latina, you know how it goes sometimes it's your own people who give it to you the worst in these type of white salon situations. To conclude, my only reason to ever come back to this salon would be to let Constantine cut my hair. And my Latin ladies be careful with Denise. read more

My hair is smiling and singing praises for Emma!!! Going in with hair that was in a ombré style of my natural brown hair flowing through to blond needed some good tweaking!! I felt my hair needed some love and the colors needed better blending done at a different salon. Emma looked at my facial features and what I desired, showed me some online picture options and we chose the best course of action!! Emma conducted a different technique of applying the color than putting thin sheets of paper in between instead of the foil usually used- which Emma explained is a healthier technique and doesn't speed up the drying/frying process. My sister and niece have been seeing Emma for around 7-8 months now and Emma's done Keratin on my sister twice, advised on the best hair color options to suit her style and that would complement her facial accents and carried through. On my 11 year old niece who has very thick course brown hair she's gave beautiful hair cuts. Franz Sebastian is a welcoming and quaint salon on St. Elmo street centered around great restaurants and a yummy donut shop called 202 Donuts up on Fairmont Ave. Parking options include two hour street parking meters or a sprinkling of parking garages- (I parked at Fairmont Ave garage for $10 cash or credit that you pay to the friendly attendant for unlimited hours) and you park your own car. *pictures to follow read more

After a botched ombré job that looked like I had been dunked in bleach, I desperately searched for a place to get it fixed. Luckily stylist Ashley at Franz Sebastian was able to fit me in on Sunday and it was a fantastic experience! Great customer service! She explained the color process clearly and was super helpful discovering a solution for the situation that was cost and time effective. I came in with mismatched tones of yellowish orange hair on my dark brown head. It was yucky. Since I had Just gone through all the bleaching, at that point I wanted to keep the lightness while finding a way to blend it better. She toned out the yellows, applied low lights and lifted my roots to create a significantly better blend of colors!! I came in feeling like a DIY teenager and left feeling like an adult! Since it was Sunday she was the only stylist there so the salon was nice, quiet and not rushed! Before even coming into the salon Ashley was super helpful and let me send her some photos in advanced to determine a plan of attack. She was really professional and strongly recommended I get my money back from the salon I had gone to before and I took her smart advice and worked out a refund! Thanks for the words of wisdom! I found the salon on Yelp and figured I couldn't go wrong since people have raved about this place. Bethany provided me with an amazing experience. She was really friendly and conversational. When I first arrived, I told her exactly what I wanted and she delivered. I absolutely love my new haircut; she really paid attention to detail and took her time. I didn't feel rushed at all and I'm so happy with the end result. I will definitely be back; I'm overdue for highlights so I'll update my review in the near future. What I really like about this place is that it's a bit understated. Located right off St. Elmo in downtown Bethesda (Next to Union Jacks), it feels simple, homey and non-pretentious. The prices are comparable to what you'd spend at any reputable, urban salon. A great haircut will cost you $70+. I needed a new hair spot near work and after reading all the positive reviews I picked Franz Sebastian Salon. So glad I did! I have blonde highlighted hair that I'm trying to grow out into a more ombre effect with my natural color as the base (medium brown with red). Ashley was my stylist and immediately took me under her knowledgeable wing. The process will take some time as my hair has to grow out, but she's making it look stunning in the interim. By the way, I have A LOT of hair and Ashley has the patience of a goddess. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because this is a work in progress. I had a balayage done by Ashley and it came out great. I initially came in for a haircut only but decided to dye my hair on impulse since I have had bad experiences with bad hair dyes in the past and had a hard time getting past it. I'm so glad I took the plunge. I have extremely dark hair that most hairstylists in the past have had hard time understanding dying it orange or platinum blonde, when all I wanted was a simple shade of brown. Clearly Ashley understands dark hair and then some. She managed to find the perfect shade of brown with honey and blended it well for a natural look. The highlights were strategically placed for a sunkissed look that is low maintenance. Another huge bonus was that they did not charge me extra for having Dominican hair. From my experience, some salons charge extra if you do not have the texture or hair color that they want. I will definitely be returning. read more
