The Shop Salon opened a new location. It is in downtown Bethesda off of Old Georgetown Road. It is designed with beautiful, with a blend of bold colors, including black, white, and pink. Since, this salon was just renovated everything's brand new. I like the open air and modern concept. I am now familiar with the parking and directions to get to the building. It was a little tricky at first. But, my favorite part of the salon is my stylist, DK. He is an expert professional and does a precise job with cutting and styling my hair. I love the way my hair looks, feels, and it is really easy to take care of. So, beautiful new salon, my favorite stylist-DK, ... I will see you again in 4 weeks. Overpriced and horrible service. As recommended by a friend, I requested Jeanette Herrera. Unfortunately, my experience was uncomfortable and nasty. Her attitude when telling me to stop looking at myself when she was cutting hair was very condescending. Well I should have continued to look because she did a terrible job. Two days later I ended up at Beautiful Life Salon to get them to fix the "cut". Better prices and more competent. I would have been ok with a nasty condescending attitude if the hairdresser was competent, but she wasn't. Don't let her cut your hair if you want layers and shoulder length hair with a very slight slant. You might look like you stepped out in the 80's. Yikes! Avoid this place. They are seriously overpriced and you can get much better seasoned hairdressers in Rockville. There are people who went and got their instructions from Visible Changes. And there are the ones with experience and just organic talent. Sorry for the negative review but it was one of the worst experiences in a salon I've ever had. I was really disappointed in my experience at this salon, especially after reading and hearing glowing recommendations both online and from local friends. From beginning to end, the roughness and lack of care I experienced was confusing and painful. To start, the person who washed my hair did not do a thorough job (there was shampoo left in my hair when I got back to the stylist's chair and I had to be re-rinsed), and she somehow managed to tangle my hair in a way I haven't experienced since childhood. The stylist, Grazia, asked if my hair had already been tangled (it hadn't, I had brushed it before I came to the salon) or if it tangled easily (this has never been my experience). Grazia was incredibly rough when she brushed out my tangled hair. She used a dirty brush that clearly had someone else's hair in it (the cape that was put on me also had little clumps of old hair stuck down the front of it). I had mentioned at the very beginning of the appointment that I was experiencing postpartum hair loss; this did not stop Grazia from aggressively yanking that brush through my tangled hair. It was the most painful experience I've ever had at a salon. The haircut itself was extremely quick and not as thorough as I'm used to, but I was happy with the overall look. Unfortunately, Grazia styled my hair with a hairdryer on the highest setting, and was not careful to angle it away from my head. My head felt scalded, and still felt tender in places a day later. At no point did Grazia use any product in my hair such as a conditioner that would have helped with the tangles, or a heat protection serum/spray that would have helped minimize damage from the hair dryer. Doing my hair at all seemed to be an inconvenience that Grazia was trying to get through as quickly as possible - she spent most of the appointment watching the stylist who was working next to her. This experience was confusing and upsetting. I've truly never been treated this way at a salon. Usually I enjoy the care and relaxation of the salon experience regardless of how the haircut itself turns out, but this was thoroughly painful and stressful. The lack of care was truly disorienting. I am giving two stars because the haircut itself looks fine. I will not be back to this location. read more

I have dyed my hair for about 12-14 years of my life now (I'm 18) and most times it was done by box hair dye. Adriane took very well care of my hair and She left me loving and feeling so amazing with my new hair. After a full year of having the same color I went back to get it dyed again but this time we went bright red and I fell so in love! She did a such amazing job making sure my curls didn't lose their shape and made sure the color she was mixing was the one I wanted. She's an amazing hairstylist and person! My experience at The Salon Shop is very positive and every time I go there it always surpasses my expectations. Everyone there is very friendly, welcoming, and hardworking. I moved to D.C. almost 2 years ago and I was really nervous about going somewhere new for my hair because I had been going to the same woman for 13 years. I did a lot of research to find a promising salon to have my hair done and I fortunately stumbled upon The Shop Salon. I requested Grazia from her raving reviews about fixing hair colors and balayage styles. I am so happy about my decision to go to The Shop Salon because Grazia did such an incredible job. The moment I sat in her chair she genuinely listened to what I was looking for and what I hoping the outcome out my hair would be. I had a "dream" image of what I wished my hair color would be and Grazia hit the mark with it. Before going to Grazia, I had a balayage that was in rough condition. Grazia really took the time and effort, paying attention to the smallest of details, in order to fix it. I had a great experience with DK at Shop Salon this afternoon. As a new mom during a pandemic, trust me when I say my hair was a wreck. I came armed with a photo of what I'd like it to look like, and I left with exactly what I wanted. DK did balayage, low lights, toner, and a cut (all in 2 1/2 hours - did I mention I'm a new mom? That might have been the best part) and I'm thrilled with all of it. Shop is definitely on the pricey side ($320 before tip) but I'm confident that DK's work will grow out nicely so I won't have to return too soon for a touch up. PS - the salon overall felt very covid safe. Everyone was masked, and chairs are very spread apart. Not horrible but not great for the price you pay I went here earlier in the summer for a just a cut. Now, I have thick 2C curl hair. I showed the stylists a few photos of what i wanted and basically i like cascading layers as I usually blow-dry it. That's how i usually get it cut by other hairstylists. It is not hard. The lady who everyone raves about literally took 2 minutes to cut my hair, and then she was off to focus on the lady she was coloring her hair ( which i get it. I am used to my hair stylists popping away to check on someone's hair they are coloring. Makes sense). But, the lady spent 2 minutes to cut my hair.... when usually it takes a stylists much longer too since they are very focused. Grant it I thought "wow maybe she was super talent with my hair and that's why she could cut it super quick". Anywho, the lady goes away and let's someone do the majority of drying and styling my hair and jumps in for the last 20% to blow dry. At the end I was left with a mediocre cut- that didn't have the defined layers i wanted and that was doable( had it done all the time. I wasn't asking for something not achievable for my hair.) and what i didn't care for was my blowdry- everyone loves a super sleek styled blow-dry. The kind you can't do at home- you know? That is my fav part. But, instead at the end of spending $95 for a "top" hairstylist i left just feeling "meh".. that's it. I paid $95 dollars for what? It was def not up to par from normal cuts and blowdrys I get. On the plus side the staff is polite and nice. The hairstylist was polite too. Haircut and blow-dry was not worth $95 dollars here. I admit, it was only my first time here and I could have a different experience with another stylist who cuts and blowers as I want. I needed to get my newly blonde hair toned after the sun, ocean and pool caused it to turn brassy very quickly. I called the shop salon and was able to make an appointment for the same day and lucked out by getting Vivian. She toned my hair to the perfect sun-kissed color! I've never gotten so many compliments on my hair color before. I also really appreciated her taking the time to educate me on how to maintain my color, especially since I'm naturally a dark brunette. So, for the past month or so The Shop has been going through a renovation. I knew that it was gonna go through a renovation, AC told me when I was getting my haircut a while ago. In any event, I've been passing it and looking in to see if they were almost finished... waiting anxiously to get my haircut. Well, a day ago, my hair reached critical mass. Like, no joke. There was nothing I could aside from burning it off or wearing a hat... and trust me... I don't look good in a hat. I also was going to an event later that night for Taste PG and I NEEDED my hair did. So I went to their website to see if I could get someones email. On the front page it was like (paraphrased) "Yo, we're going through a renovation and biz. We'll open soon as this B is done , but here are some emails JIC #JustInCase". I was like. Thank G-d! So I put out an email pleading for a last minute haircut before I went to this important event. AC got back to me and was so accommodating. He was like... just so you know - we're usually not open Monday... but I'm here supervising the reno so - please come in. Thank G-d! THANK THE LORD! THANK AC! So, I come in, we go downstairs- throw on some music and AC essentially uses someone eles's station to cut my hair, grabbing tools piece-meal from other stations as well. So- aside from taking me on while his entire salon is completely in disarray, on a day where his salon isn't even suppose to be open, and using a bunch of tools he's not super familiar with... I asked for a new stye of haircut, showed him a picture, and he gave me the exact "picture-perfect" haircut. There has to be something I can give him higher than 5 stars... oh yeah- a baller tip. I came here after reading reviews on Yelp and in desperate need of a refresh on my balayage, along with a trim--that's it. For background, I have medium brown hair naturally but have been getting it colored for over a decade. As such, the already blonde strands tend to lift to the ashy tones I love fairly easily. In addition, I found the picture of the color I wanted ON MY STYLIST'S instagram, so you'd think it would be a reachable endeavor (it sounded later like it may have actually been the work of someone she used to work under, but I digress). I usually only get a super basic trim and I'm on my way. I'm what you call an extremely "chill" client so long as my needs are met/ my hair isn't transformed into terrifying shades of orange/gray which is what happened next. Firstly, the tone she kept coming to was that hideous "I tried to save a buck by using L'Oréal box color and now I have Kraft Mac and Cheese orange hair" tone. You know the one. I kept telling her, no, I want ashy (just like the picture I showed her). It was specific and completely manageable, but didn't seem to resonate with her. At the end, at hour 4 and the third re do, she said "you don't mind your ends being a little silver, do you?" I thought she meant silver as maybe an ashy blonde. Y'all, it was GRAY. Gray as your ex's heart. My hair somehow became this terrible two-tone mass of literal orange and gray. I received a $25 discount off my $275 expenditure (what a bargain!) and was told to come back the next day. After spending 2.5 more hours the next day, we were able to pull out the gray but still couldn't manage the ashy blonde for reasons beyond human understanding. Now my hair is a very even shade of Kraft Mac and cheese orange--not to mention totally fried. I was refunded nothing other than the $25 and not even comped a product for the extreme stress my hair had to undergo given such poor coloring. Ladies and gents, save your money and go elsewhere. I had the best experience at The Shop Salon. Grazia went above and beyond when fixing my hair. I got highlights on a Sunday from a hair stylist at a different salon, and they were not at all what I expected or wanted. I knew I needed it fixed and after reading the excellent reviews for The Shop Salon, I quickly and easily booked my appointment online for that Tuesday. Before my appointment, I texted Grazia pictures of my hair (see below) and she immediately put me at ease by reassuring me that she would be able to fix it no problem! Because I dyed my hair twice within three days, Grazia and her assistant, Stephany, were extra careful as to not damage my hair. When they were done, my hair felt healthy and soft, and was a beautiful dark brown (no more streaky highlights!). Grazia also recommended affordable products to help protect and revitalize my hair. Overall, I can't recommend Grazia enough. A few days after my original appointment, I booked a follow-up appointment with her for a partial balayage in November. In 24 year old fashion, I spontaneously booked an appt at a hair salon that I've never been to before for balayage, a service I've never had done before! I took a wild guess and made my appt with Grazia (all of her good reviews helped too!). I've never really found my hair stylist or someone I want to repeatedly go back to but that has changed! Grazia was so easy to talk to and kept a nice conversation going. I also told her that she had full creative control of what she wanted to do with my hair and I'm happy I gave it to her! Found this place thanks to yelp! I've been looking around for someone to give me a good balayage. Via Instagram and yelp I was able to find Grazia. She did such an amazing job on my hair that I will definitely be returning. I went from washed out burgundy colored hair to a nice caramel bronde. Red is not easy to get rid of but she did an excellent job neutralizing the copper tones. Plus the prices are totally acceptable. Wow. Within moments of posting my initial review, Ace, The Shop owner, reached out to make things right. I was incredibly impressed by his fast turnaround and willingness to address the hiccups I experienced last time. Husband and I just visited the second Shop location in Shaw to meet Ace, and not only is the vibe there great, we both walked out with haircuts we love. It had been three months since our last cut, so I joked that Ace "gave me my husband back" since he finally looks like himself again. Ace was really communicative, asking questions about our hair preferences and naturally gravitating towards certain style choices that I'm used to--for instance, he took a lot of the weight out of my cut (after asking if I wanted him to) and the end result had a bunch more movement than it would have otherwise. I was also able to ask him about options for my hair color, which is a project for next time. I strongly prefer to support small business, and we'll definitely return to The Shop after this experience. Husband and I have moved since we visited the Bethesda location, so I think we will revisit Shaw when we are ready. A friend of mine recommended Bruna a couple of months ago. I finally got in to see her yesterday and this friend has earned major brownie points. Bruna is absolutely amazing!!!! I brought in three pictures of color that I liked and she created something for me that meshed it all together. The Shop markets itself as a safe space designed with inclusivity in mind. Unfortunately, this does protect clients from ableism toward the neurodivergent and immunocompromised. When we signed a mask-requirement agreement during booking yesterday, we thought this salon would be covid safe for us as we are very high risk. If everyone signed this agreement as a requirement to book, everyone should be masked. When my husband arrived for his cut today, only one staff member was masked and no one else. I reached out to the manager/owner and asked that she ask that those in the salon mask up because that was what we were led to believe would be happening. She was very annoyed and said she would but we were told by staff that when she called, she made no mention of masks at all. When I called her back she said she had. Someone wasn't telling the truth, which made the situation worse. Meanwhile, my autistic husband was entering a panic attack and having difficulty speaking because he expected (rightly so) that staff and patrons would be masked. If you or a loved one are high risk, immunocompromised, or are in any way predisposed to anxiety (especially as it relates to covid) do not come here. My husband will be spending the rest of the day recovering from this experience. I've been told to expect a call from the owner and hope they can make this right. read more

She asked me questions before starting and helped me understand what would look good and be good for my hair in the long run. Once she started, she really took her time to fix it and do it well. The Shop is an easy place to get to, with a garage across the street. The staff is friendly, and it's cozy and airy in there. Felt comfortable walking in as a first time client. So last month, my brows were in pretty terrible shape so I came to The Shop Salon to see Melissa and get them done. And let me tell you, girl put in work. When people spend 30 minutes shaping and cultivating your brows you know you're gonna look phenom. And they did. She was also excited and all the while telling me about new brow techniques, classes, and products that she was constantly learning. Brows are a sacred thing, they really shape your face, and you can't just let any tech near your brows. I trust her implicitly with my face, and you all should too. I had no idea the process took a minimum of 3 hours on my dark hair!
