I've been a big fan of Gerard's work for over a decade now, since he was pretty much my emotional arm floaties as far as trusting non-Asians with my temperamental Asian hair. But it'd be remiss of me to not give a shout-out to Chenelle, who has garnered so much of my trust with her cut, highlighting, and coloring skills over the past few years. The low-key transformations she's given to my hair always grow out beautifully, and she's fixed two unfortunate haircuts that I've gotten elsewhere while traveling. Chenelle is amazing -- talented and empathetic! I had a really bad haircut from a salon across the street where the stylist cut 12 inches off despite me requesting a trim of 3-4 inches, made the right and left sides completely uneven, and left a huge cliff between the front framing layers and rest of my hair. My friend took me across the street to Salon Gerard to fix it, and despite me not having an appointment, Chenelle stayed late to trim my hair to fix the unevenness and cliffs and expertly calmed me down as I was still in shock. I really miss my long hair, but Chenelle styled it so well that I was not completely distraught and even gave me tips on how to preserve the blowout. She's not only highly talented as a stylist but also incredibly empathetic and reassuring in stressful situations. I would recommend her to everyone. read more

My hair is recovering from bleach-outs and an accidental black-out, both from different salons, that made me afraid to get my hair professionally colored again. The previous colorists I saw didn't make me feel like they cared about me at all - they did what they wanted, didn't give me aftercare advice, and when the result wasn't what I thought we agreed on, they told me I was wrong and sent me on my way rather than discussing where I could go from there. Full 180 to Salon Gerard - Heidi corrected my root color to make it easier for me to grow it out gracefully, restored softness to what were straw-like ends, and revived my faith in hair professionals. She considered where my hair had been and where I want to go with it, and did exactly what she said she would! She was honest about what will happen with the color in the coming weeks, and clearly wants to keep working with me to keep my journey back to hair health on track, vs the "goodbye and good luck" I received from the previous colorists! Gerard is the best! I've been seeing him since he first apprenticed at Lux and I was a part time receptionist responsible for book 10+ stylists. I would notice how everyone looked before their appointment and how good they looked after. Even as an apprentice, Gerard made his clients shine. Once he became a full fledged stylist I made sure to book all my appointments with him because his clients had the best transformations. His cuts are amazing and his blow dry skills are phenomenal. I recently lost my hair color virginity to balayage by Nadine at Salon Gerard and I couldn't be happier! The whole process, from booking an appointment online the night before, to getting the treatment done, was super easy and painless! I get really nervous just getting a haircut so you can imagine how nervous I was to get color for the first time. After seeing reviews and photos of Nadine's work online and on Instagram, I decided to make an appointment. I showed Nadine some photos and described what I was going for - something really natural, sun-kissed and subtle. I already had natural highlights in part of my light brown hair so I just wanted to spread them more thoroughly through my hair. She knew exactly what I meant and got straight to work. The whole process took a few hours but it flew by, with water/tea/coffee available and a beautiful, bright salon to relax in. The finished product is better than I could've asked for! I ventured out of the city to try this new salon in Bethesda in hopes of saving a buck or two. The location is .3 miles from the Bethesda metro stop, so very conveniently located for anyone familiar with the metro. The salon itself is striking from the outside and difficult to miss with its' mint green exterior. Inside, the salon has tons of natural light and I really appreciated that having gone to so many underground salons in DC over the past couple of years. Now for the hair! I asked for partial highlights and a cut. Nadine looked at my hair and suggested we do some low-lights as well to help with the summertime brassiness of my blonde. What a great idea! My hair looks so fresh and natural and I feel ready for fall! My hair is very thick and takes a long time to color but she was patient and easy to talk to. I was so excited for a haircut but left frustrated with no haircut. I arrived the salon and someone told me sit in the corner with no information. After multiple times asking at the front desk, Nadine finally came out 30 minutes after my appointment was suppose to begin and informed me it would be another 45 minute wait. Gerard is fantastic! I had previously seen him at the Kennedy Warren location downtown in Cleveland Park and was so happy when he opened a location closer to me in Bethesda. The new space is beautiful, modern, and clean! Huge glass windows allow for lots of natural light which is great for seeing your true hair color. I went to Gerard twice already - once for a color correction, and once for a cut.
