I love this place, and I didn't even have upholstery work done there! I went in to get an estimate for a scratch in my car's leather seat. Mike Franzini took a look and tried to buff it out and when it didn't work recommended a leather repair guy who can help with surface scratches. All throughout our interactions, he displayed humor, empathy (I was really bummed because my car is almost new and already had scratches) and practical advice. I wish Mike was my uncle! I have to admit this is my only experience with an upholstery shop that I can remember, but it was a good experience. My car was in and out in one day and the quality is unbeatable. Their price was right in line with the other two quotes I received, but I felt that Franzini's was the most qualified, and seemed the most confident in fixing my headliner. I had a tough time finding someone who could install a new soft top for my 2004 Miata. Mike Franzini did a wonderful job of finding one that fits, and installing it. He also recommended against a couple of things I was wondering if he could do. So, definitely an honest guy. This is a review for their customer service and the way they treat their prospective clients, and less about their work (which unfortunately I never made it far enough to experience). This is the first online review I have ever written but after wasting over three hours of my day today alone, I felt compelled. I spoke with Mike a week or so before the holiday break, inquiring about their services to replace a faulty seat heating element using the parts I had already sourced myself. He told me they were booked through the holidays and to call after the new year. I spoke with him again on Monday, reminded him of the conversation and he told me to come in Thursday at 9am and they would take care of it no problem. Upon showing up today on time, I was greeted by an openly frustrated Mike, who seemed as though I was putting him through some sort of torture by trying to do business with him. He was angry that his door seemed to be stuck, and took that frustration out on me sharing that he wasn't doing any work unless he got that door open so I should leave him alone and even if he could get working I would now have to leave my car with him for the entire day, which was never discussed on either call.  When I explained I just drove from over an hour away for this appointment, his response was "well you can go sit in your car and figure out what you're going to do while I get back to work". I sat patiently in my car waiting for him to fix his problem which after about 15 minutes, he was successful in doing.  You would think that upon doing that, he might come speak with the customer whom he had confirmed with just 3 days earlier of this service, and perhaps apologize for being the dick that he just was, but no. He instead futzed around with trash cans directly in front of me, then proceeded to go speak with his neighbor in the office stall next to him, never once making an effort to perhaps salvage my business. These brothers may do fine work but I don't spend my hard earned money with people who treat their prospective clients like this, and you should think hard about it as well. I own many cars and was looking forward to a nice business relationship with them, but alas, first impressions are everything in the service industry and they just squandered theirs. If you are comfortable working with disorganized and selfish people, look no further. read more

I got a tear on my Tesla Model X seat. What was even worse is that it was white and perforated! It was super hard to find someone to repair it as they didnt have the same material to fix or would repair with a patch that would be ugly and totally noticeable after. Someone recommended Franzini Brothers and I brought it there to see what they can do. Mike, great guy, said the same thing I thought that it is hard to find matching color material. Lucky I was able to find an old seat like my perforated white seat. I scheduled a day for them to fix my seat and when I went in they even was able to source the same white matching material incase it was needed! Awesome shop. I got back the car in one day and it was like brand new and matching the rest of the perforated white seats! If you have a Tesla that needs seat work, these guys can do great work just as they did for me. read more

Don and Mike the principals of Franzini Brothers Auto Upholstery are FANTASTIC. In the auto service and restoration business there are a few remaining old-school shops in Marin County who are truly expert in the trade; these guys are gems. The original interior vinyl front sport seats and rear bench seat of my thirty year old BMW E30 (i.e., 325i) were very sad and in desperate need of a rebuild and recover. I recognized early that a seat project was beyond my skill as a do-it-yourselfer. Don took on the job with enthusiasm and skill. He completely rebuilt the front seats with new gas ram adjustors on the seat frames as well as fitted foam and new black leather (sourced from another recommended supplier) to both front seats and the back bench. Seats are now exquisite. Project was completed in three days, as quoted, and for a fair price. Additional bonus was that Don and Mike are extremely nice guys; Don said he'd be happy to provide any adjustments to the fit of the leather in the future as needed. Mike Franzini is fabulous. He hand-stitched a torn string on a side panel to my soft top of my BMW 330Ci convertible, so that it would open and close cleanly. True craftsmanship at its finest. BMW San Rafael advised me that I needed an entire top - typical Dealer with no one that understands or is trained in such repairs. Then, Mike recommended me to Earl at On Location Mobile Detailing in San Rafael for exterior wax of three vehicles. Earl was also great and have a separate review for him. read more

If you believe in supporting mom and pop businesses try mom and sons. Don and Mike make the magic in back while mom runs the office. I was referred by a respected German auto dealer's service manager to the Franzini's Brother's. From my initial visit they treated me with respect, despite that I do not drive an Italian supercar nor am a renowned rock star restoring a 65 year old classic but come here and you'll likely see cars like these pass through their shop. Don recommended the most cost effective way for me to source my materials and then did an amazing job redoing my interior. He suggested I slowly redo the interior as needed as my convertible was subjected to small children who are now growing up; this was a perfect, cost effective strategy. I took my recently aquired old Honda Civic to Michael to fix the upholstery on the front seat. From the moment I walked in he made me feel welcome and important. He took time to inspect my car and immediately ordered the fabric needed. Returned the following day left the car with him and a few hours later I returned to a masterpiece. The ripped fabric and foam were gone, now the area repared looked better than the factory seat. Michael is an artist and his craftsmanship is of superior quality. Just had Franzini Brothers put new Katzkin leather seats and seat heaters in my Nissan 350z convertible. They did a great job on leather install and did a real nice job getting the heater switches in the center console. The car feels like new and lets me drive top down no matter the weather. The side of my driver's seat had several stress tears which got bigger over the years. I tried some DIY patches but they started peeling after a few months and made it look worse. I feel very lucky to have found this place through positive Yelp reviews. My fifteen-year old Volvo has been showing some wear and tear. The cost of replacing the "boots" (the covering for the hand brake and gear shift) at the Volvo dealer was far too expensive -- perhaps $500 or more for parts and labor. Fortunately the guys at the dealer agreed; they suggested I try to find the leather pieces on eBay and try an independent auto upholstery place to do the work. When I met Don Franzini, he seemed a bit wary about what I'd choose to buy on eBay. Though I felt confident about his expertise, I went ahead and ordered what I thought was a match for one sixth the dealer cost. Don was able to replace everything in no time. I was surprised at how little he charged me. Even though you might see some high end cars in this shop, the labor charge made my whole experience a very happy one. Mike and his family saved me. I had been left... high and dry... by a guy who does tops for Z3s in Sausaito. Even though he'd earned good ratings, a professional mishap happened. I was left without a top for about 8 days because the top he ordered didn't come because of factory error. He left the country the next day on a prescheduled trip. Mike gave me a very fair rate, and, bypassing the problem I had, I contacted the manufacturer of EZ-ON tops. They said call the distributor. I wish I had the name. The guy was so straightforward and helpful. He clearly recommended Franzini first and Mike gave me a very good price. He explained that Gahh tops were better, for them, in their experience, with foreign cars. Being a BMW... So I bought it, it was a little bit more, but I could not live with a faulty top so I feel, in my case, it worked out better to go with someone with a location, that's proven, and known. Franzini had good yelps, so I went with them. I also had him resew my front seat and it was a good deal. it was affordable and saved me from big problems down the road. The Mom answers the phone. They are very nice people. None of us is perfect, truly, and they bring a lot of knowledge and experience and offer their fair version of the facts and do a good job. Thank you, Franzini you came through for me in a pinch and I like the top very much. I went with black instead of the former tan, which I did love, and I love the black. I hope it lasts, and shows up as a good investment. A new top is not much more than the back window replacement. It really adds a lot to have a good top. Want a professional job of redoing your leather seat and not breaking the seat warmers or the airbag sensor, and shave the cushion ? Thats where you go in the area. I bought a car with extremely uncomfortable and hard seats (2012 Nissan Altima). That, combined with my height (6'6"), made riding in the car for more than 30 min. unbearable. I worked with Mike to redo the driver's seat. He took out the hard springs and put in a new sling support. He kept making changes in the upholstery as I reported back after test driving it for a few days after each modification. Now I can sit in the car for hours with complete comfort. After 13 years the leather seat covers in my Miata needed replacement. Franzini Bros suggested that I could get the quality I wanted at a lower price by purchasing seat covers from Leatherseats.com and having Franzini Bros install them. This worked at wonderfully and the result is terrific and at a lower cost than other auto upholsterers quoted me. Leatherseats.com was also wonderful. They sent me photos immediately, sample colors within a couple of days, answered all my questions, and provided a good product within 3 weeks. read more
