Fratelli has a strong reputation in Stamford for being one of the better Italian markets. My most recent experience was mixed. The Italian combo was tasty and well stacked -- plenty of meat (a touch light on the cheese). The bread was fresh and flavorful. The price was a little steep, but the sandwich was good. My colleague ordered the chicken cutlet sandwich, which including much less chicken than should have arrived. The sandwich was tasty -- but simply not enough chicken. We also ordered Chicken Scarp takeout for dinner. The chicken was bland and the ratio of peppers was off -- there were just too many peppers for the amount of chicken included. read more

Fratelli has consistently served me some fresh sandwiches. My absolute favorite part of the sandwich is that fresh mozzarella ball, stabbed with a toothpick and onto my sandwich. It tastes like a fluffy, cheesy cotton ball and makes me feel like I am floating on a cloud. I know, cheesy eh? I've tried the Godfather, Turkey, Ham, and Grilled Chicken sandwiches. However, my all time fave is the simplest sandwich yet - the Italian Tuna. It appears like canned tuna squeezed between a hero, but it's actually more to it than that. This has become my go to little Italian market for fresh ingredients when I want to make homemade pizza, or for home made pasta when i was the real thing but don't want to make it from scratch. They have a large freezer and cooler section that includes house made pastas, pre made meals such as lasagnas and other pasta dishes, and grab and go fresh cheese. They have a number of popular Italian cookies and other packaged items, and a cute dessert selection. There are only a couple of brands of canned tomatoes and they're a little pricey but great in a pinch if you want to pick up everything you need in one place. They will even grab shredded mozzarella from the back to sell as well if you ask. Oh, and they always have ready to make brooklyn pizza dough for sale in the cooler. Of course there is the deli too, and the made to order sandwiches. I really enjoyed the Kate, which was eggplant and meat and peppers and very tasty. I love getting their fresh burrata or mozz balls. The woman who had been working the counter every time I have been there is amazing-- really part of what makes this place great. The only negative experience i had was buying a container of mini mozzarella balls once that was just starting to turn sour. However this was also mid pandemic and I think they had likely been slower than usual, which must make it really hard to balance keeping a stocked cooler selection. I know if I had gone back to let them know they would have taken care of it because of the great customer service. read more

A gem- we stopped by on a rainy Saturday for lunch and were so pleased! I need gluten-free options and they had bread as well as pasta and salads. I had a delicious #22 sandwich (tomato/mozzarella/ prosciutto/basil pesto)- toasted and yummy! Very fresh and delicious. Will come back to try all the market and freezer options. --- Back again a month or so later. Sandwiches as delicious as we remembered. This place is a huge rip off. Received a gift card in paper form and was told "they don't accept those anymore." Received another gift card in the form of a card and was told "we don't take those cards anymore." Both cards were received and attempted use within ample time. I've been here many times and their food is good, management however needs to start realizing that repeat customers is what will keep them in business. I can't say enough about the food that comes out of this kitchen. The party sized lasagne and the eggplant parmigiana are the best thing ever. I love to serve one or the other for big gatherings of family and friends when I just don't feel like cooking for a crowd. Add a big salad, some garlic bread and a couple bottles of wine and you are SET! I always keep one in my chest freezer for unexpected company. It is mad delicious and I mean really really delicious. The sauce is homemade, no skimping on the cheese, and the pasta is homemade. Leftovers? It reheats beautifully because it's so cheesy and saucy and doesn't dry out. Came in because I was hoping to find some full fat, low moisture mozzarella (the kind in blocks) for pizzas, because the lower moisture stuff is hard to find. They didn't have any, but they offered some fresh mozz that they could grab from the back cold to make it easier to deal with (e.g. to shred, though I ended up dicing it). It was DELICIOUS. Thank you for helping me out - I know it was an odd request - it's almost impossible to find anywhere, but the mozz they make there is fantastic. This is a cute little Italian market in Stamford that serves a lot of sandwiches and premade Italian dishes. While I wouldn't say the sandwich I had here was stellar, the selection is voluminous and interesting, and I can see this place being somewhere I'd return to if I needed, for example, really good Italian staples. This sandwich shop is a true hidden gem! Authentic Italian cuisine made to order! As a vegetarian, they had quite a few options. I got the tomato/mozz/balsamic sandwich and it was delish. There is no place like this establishment in the Mid-Ridges, Turn of River, Newfield and North Stamford area. All their sandwiches are very filling and their frozen Italian food section is most extensive in the city, from what I have seen. They also have very good beverage options, with specialty bottled sodas and sparkling waters that are very difficult to find in markets in this region. You can even hear classic songs from the 70s and 80s if you get lucky as the management team has great taste in music. Fratelli's is great for catering. We ordered their subs, one with breaded chicken and the other with ham and both sandwiches were made with fresh ingredients. We also ordered a platter with cold vegetables such as roasted red peppers but their mushrooms were my favorite. They also have a great dessert platter with an assortment of different cookies and chocolates which is great for groups. Possibly the best chicken soup ever. If you are gluten free and you wander into Fratelli Market, you will think you died and have gone to heaven. They have a better selection of gluten free products (pastas, breads, crakers, baked goods) than Whole Foods, and carry some great/ hard to find brands. They have GREAT GF ravioli, and carry Izzy B's cupcakes (best GF cupcakes EVER). But they are MUCH more than a market, they also are a great deli. Whenever I am sick, I order their chicken and rice soup, and it makes everything better. They also make amazing sandwiches/ pannini's, and will put it on GF bread for you! Finally, if you are lucky enough to get there before they sell out, you won't regret buying their home-made Mozzarella or Ricotta.
