Yes, there is always a line - especially now with the outrageous gas prices - and the attendants are slow, but for the greatly discounted gas, even cheaper with my rewards points, I'll wait. I set my expectations and patience follows. Today I paid $4.85 for regular, before my reward points. All over Portland gas stations are still charging $5.49-5.69. I really like this location a lot, it is easy to get in and out of the pumps. The employees are very friendly and move quickly. Since self-service has been made available in Oregon, I do tend to hit that side and pump my own gas. Employees do constantly check on self-service users to make sure they are doing alright and if not, they assist without hesitation. What I found that really helps get through the self-service pumps is to use the Kroger-Pay inside the Fred Meyer app. It is way easier than using their slow computer screens on the pump, it takes in account your reward points and charges the credit card you have setup in the app. I can start pumping in usually a few seconds after I add the pump number. This also works if you go to full-service and the attendants love it when you do. Lastly the price at Fred Meyer is not as good as Costco, but the lines can be shorter, and it is usually cheaper than any other place nearby. read more

Incredibly unpredictable and inconsistent. We live nearby and have an RV which we need to fill with propane regularly. They do not come to the propane tank when you pull up, you have to go approach an employee at the gas pumps. Once approached, the strong majority of times we've stopped by they tell us they don't have a person there who's able to operate it, other times that they're too busy. Evvvvvery once in a while we have hit the jackpot and got it done here. We've tried to plan according to previous successful attempts, time of day/day of the week. But alas no, it doesn't work. Completely hit or miss...and usually miss. Most of the time they say they're understaffed or too busy...and sometimes it appears accurate. But other times they only have a few cars at the tanks but just don't seem to want to mess with propane and tell us no. I just wish they'd sell propane since they have propane to sell. We've just decided to stop trying here. Better to go out of the way and get propane on the first try. read more

Cheapest fuel around and even better if you get rewards points which almost make it worth paying the Fred Meyer jacked up prices here and there. This is the worst location though - and if you think you are going to drop by and fill up during your lunch break (like everyone else) even at 2pm you are sadly mistaken. I don't have any fancy pictures or elaborate details to give you about my visits to this particular Freddy's, but just know that every employee has exceptional customer service. The store is never dirty or out of order and they genuinely care about rather you're finding everything you need or not. You'll get the same welcoming customer service rather you drop by at 8am or 10pm and that really speaks volumes. This store is 1 mile away from where we live and I'm glad that it can be a one stop shopping trip if need be. I grew up in Phoenix, which at least while I lived there, was a fabulous grocery store test market. That meant there were oodles of markets all in competition with one another, battling it out for customers. My poor mom would strategize who was having what triple coupon deal and comb the ads and shop at various stores accordingly. She and my dad had a tight budget. Recession, you know. When I was on my own I liked Smith's. Cheap takeout Chinese and sales on diet coke. Twenty-nothing priorities. Plus I lived in Lake Havasu for a while. There wasn't much to choose from there. But there was Smith's. I moved to Eugene at 29 and shopped at Oasis(RIP), Price Chopper, and Sundance each for it's own kinda things. Produce came outta my own obsessed hippie farmer girl wannabe backyard garden. Since I arrived in Portland,married, had a baby, moved around town a bunch, divorced, etc. I have never truly landed on a favorite. My then partner shopped at Zupan's. Um, too expensive. I still am not a fan of Safeway or Albertson's. I liked Haggen but it's mostly gone. I truly loathe Winco ( everyone shopping and working always seems so stressed and bummed out) although when I'm extra poor I will go there.I am just not a Thriftway person. Market of Choice overwhelms me,it is too glossy. QFC is my convenient neighborhood milk run place. I hit up Costco, Uwajimaya, Supermercado de Mexico,New Season's, and Trader Joe's for some stuff. Very specific stuff though.Focused and intentional. Otherwise I risk overspending on exotic condiments and wine, you know how that goes. I realized last week that this Freddy's is my main squeeze. So to speak. I'm in here fairly frequently. It lies in my drive path between my house and my job. The parking lot sucks only sometimes. It's got big wide aisles. There is Starbucks inside in case I'm dragging. I buy quite a bit of our family's clothing ( socks, underwear, cardigans for my mom, emergency rainboots for outdoor school, stuff like that) here. I know my way around the store. It is light,clean, bright, there is U scan, and the employees are ok. The "health food" section is just behind the produce and not strangely separate like at some other Freddy's stores. All in all it's good with me. I feel like the prices are fair. The selection gets better and better. There is more organic produce and more things from Bob's Red Mill than there used to be. The beer section isn't bad. I can find most of what I'm looking for here. And buying random non food stuff while still getting the staple pantry items i.e. without multiple trips, is a good thing. One of the bigger, nicer, cleaner Fred Meyer stores. I'm a big fan of the sushi deli. Today at lunch when I stopped in there were no more salad rolls. The sushi chef happily fixed me up with freshly made salad rolls in mere minutes. What great service! Don't laugh - each Fred Meyer sushi bar has a sushi chef running it who uses real crab in some of the sushi rolls, not just the faux "Krab with a K". "Krab" is pollock with red food coloring around the edges. Most of the sushi at Freddies has "Krab" within it - but if you get there fairly early during lunch time, you will be able to get a box of 12 good-sized California roll pieces containing the *real* crab for only $5.25. (The faux krab California rolls are $4.55.) Wander down to the seafood area and notice that crabmeat sells for about $1.50 per ounce, and you will realize what a great deal these rolls are......In addition, the cucumber and avocado are very fresh and the rice is perfectly sticky. No, it's not the best sushi in town, but if you are in the middle of a shopping trip at Freddies and suddenly realize how hungry you are, it's a great healthy option and a great value. read more

Yeah I'm reviewing a grocery store. What about it?! In comparison to other FM, this one is on the top of my list. Not only because it's the closest, but it also rarely makes me want to yank my hair out with annoyance. The parking lot is busy, but you never have to park too far away or wait for...well...absolute morons to navigate around it. Unlike the next FM (Walker) I don't drive with the 96% someone is going to hit me. Otherwise it's got your typical Fred Meyer items, and it's generally true about the one stop shop. Produce is fresh, bread is fresh, selection of meats are good. Here's another perk! Good beer selection. I have no idea why some Fred Meyers have a bevy of beer selection (NE) and some have like one section (Walker). This one has a side for domestics (Coors..only good for tailgating) and the other side boasts imports and local brews. read more

One stop shopping is the motto. And you can for the most part. Groceries, lower end clothing, lower end footwear, cheap Furniture, some toys, limited electronics, jewelry, garden, and housewares. Even light hardware. If you are not looking for high quality or super low prices your all set. In fact prices are pretty high for groceries. When you compare to Winco they are 10-20% higher... The real joy in Fred Meyer is being able to get several items quickly without having to go to different stores... It is really there for pure ease. read more

Walmart whooo? Not when you're 11miles away and takes 20-30min to get to. We were impressed when walking in. Department store, grocery, electronic, furniture and garden center all in one! NEVER AGAIN. Every time I go to this FM gas location I have a long wait. Not because the place is so busy, but because the pumps are SO SLOW. I went today and there were four cars ahead of me, two of which were already fueling up. It took over a 1/2 hour to get through with my car taking 6 minutes to fuel a 14 gallon tank that wasn't even empty to begin with. On top of the pumps being slow, the attendants are too, possibly because they are always waiting for pumps to finish. Whatever the matter is, wasting 1/2 of a lunch hour waiting for gas is not what I will never do again. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME GOING TO THIS LOCATION. read more

I guess everybody does this, but I left my phone at home. Talk about feeling discombobulated and disconnected. The worst part is I left it at home on the day I needed to use it to order a Lyft or Uber ride to get to work. There is no Tri-Met service past 229th & Imbrie Drive. Arrrrggghh!!! Also, there really are very few public phones left in service. Fortunately, one of the grocery checkers suggested talking with the employee at the customer service department. EUREKA!! Once she heard my tale of woe, she showed me how to dial out on the store phone, and then got me a phone book to use to look up a small local cab company. All's well that ends well because of this wonderful young woman. She listened and went above and beyond and helped me in a big way to get me to work on time. I've forgotten her name, my usual practice (hangs head in shame), but she helped turn my day from black clouds over my head to rays of sunshine brightening my day. I don't normally review grocery stores, but I really love my Fred Meyers. I happen to live closer to the one at 158th and Walker (and live even closer still to a Safeway), but I definitely prefer this one and go out of my way to shop here! It seems more relaxed; not everybody seems to be in a huge hurry. It might be silly, but one of the areas in which this Fred Meyers shines is in their parking lot. Its so much easier to navigate and feels so much less crazy and dangerous than the Walker store. They recently put in a gas station across Imbrie from the actual store, and its SO MUCH BETTER than the one at Walker. I will never get gas at the Walker store again. Its just nuts. They have a great selection of groceries and other goods, and have great prices if you shop the sales (and match up coupons with sales!). Their cashiers are fantastic - I've never had a bad one. They're all fantastic with accepting coupons. Bob would be so sad to hear that the cart sanitzier machiney thing is gone :( Not sure if it will be back, if it was just a trial run, or what . With maturity and job interviews on the horizon, it's now time to start shopping for more "grown man" clothes, instead of my usual attire of t-shirts with colleges or professional teams on them. I was able to find a nice button-down shirt that was packaged with a plain grey undershirt under (what appears to be) Fred Meyer's house-brand, "Great Northwest." Originally $15, there were 15% discount coupons scattered throughout the place that kept a few more bucks in my wallet, making the purchase that much better. I think with the exception of the 15% coupons, we could copy and paste this review into another Freddy's location at random, and probably still be telling the truth about their selection sight-unseen. Originally I had vowed not to review every grocery store I entered unless something exciting or unusual happened. However this particular Fred Meyer is the store I frequent most so I gather I could give some kind of usable input. First off about 6 months ago they completely overhauled the store somewhat refining its interior space. This beautification attempt led them to expand a number of areas including electronics, sporting goods, automotive and the addition of a clothing center. The food improvements were mainly done in the produce, deli, and health sections. They have been diligent to incorporate various gourmet items that you'd typically find at competing specialty markets. Some include an expanded cheese section, finishing salts, bulk dried goods, and organic health driven selections. Of course even with its enhancements this store does have some issues. First its organization, I feel the signage and guidance could be improved as some sections don't even have information boards. Yes I can see there's meat over there but what if I was blinded in a nasty cheese grating accident and lost the use of my eyes? Speaking of meat I'm not entirely convinced by the quality here, it does offer "hand cut USDA select meats" but usually when we shop elsewhere we find the meat to be better. One of the more annoying traits is their usage of two signs per aisle which divide the corresponding information. I guess this makes sense for aisles that are 50 ft long but its effectiveness is dependent upon which side of the store you're facing. Also with all the technology corporate America provides consumers like item scanners and self checkout lines I wonder why they don't take it a step further. Come on Fred Meyer if you really want my loyalty invent a machine that I can voice my needs to which would print the most efficient route around the store while estimating my total spending after my coupons are automatically deducted. Yeah that will never happen and why because of control. With the illusion of convenience they follow the old strategy by putting simple items in the back of the store to force your impulsive shopping behaviors, tricky bastards. Hell those nifty cart sanitizers were the only good tech they had and recently they were eliminated. This of course foiled the plans of Bob M. and I to torture unruly small children with the fear of not having their mouths washed out but getting sanitized! Speaking of kids, if you have them they offer a day care room that will probably make your shopping experience quieter if not more enjoyable. Otherwise I'll be seeing you and the family pushing around one of those huge carts designed to look like a race car and blocking the lane because it's 5 ft. wide! This isn't playtime why are we trying to appease these children with themed carts? All it makes me want to do is ram the MF like I'm in a demolition derby since my average, unfun cart, can't fit through. I think the use of electrified carts would work better by administering a mild shock to keep their butts inside those child seats. Lastly what really grinds my gears is the unfriendly, almost nonexistent wine steward here. I buy a lot of wine and while I am very familiar with many brands sometimes I'd just like to try a recommendation. This guy must be related to David Copperfield because he's always pulling a disappearing act. Then when I do find him he barely bats an eye or says hello. What is this guy doing all day that keeps him away from the wine? Maybe he's busy implementing a cyber assault while staging as an orange head on Yelp leaving reviews about how bad customer service is at Whole Foods and New Seasons. Of course this leaves the guy with a half case of wine in his cart namely me, to help customers struggling to find their new favorite. Next time I'm going to slip a note on his station fashioned from cut out letters demanding a portion of his pay check. I will say the brand new gas station which awards 10 cents off gas to reward members is a very welcomed addition. In the end I guess I really come here for its convenience and of course my weekly beer but mostly because I get an employee discount throughout the store from my connection at Kroger. read more

Just an update, this Fred Meyer is still fine for shopping but the salad bar I previously liked so much has gone a bit downhill. The past several times I've checked it out, the pre-made salads and a few other items in the salad bar are all dried out, like with a discolored crust on them. Yuck!! And this is at about 12:30 or so, lunch time when the salad bar should be relatively busy I think. This could easily be alleviated by stirring those items on a regular basis, every 10-15 minutes or so. If that can't be done, or if there is just too much air drying out those items (it's kind of in front of a main set of doors) --- then re-think the salad bar offerings. I'm not about to eat potato salad that looks all warm and dried out like that. Presentation means a lot, even at a grocery store salad bar. read more

In the last few months, the service here is terrible. The attendants are really nice but the pumps break down all the time! And one of the attendants told me the gas is pumping slower and it was repaired but only lasted for a day. It's insanity here trying to get gas. Fred Meyer is a big organization. One of the better grocery stores in town. It's big and has a wide variety of things I need. When I need groceries, they're there. When we need some baby clothes, food, or toys, they're there. When we need some medicine it's usually there. When my wife wants knitting, they have stuff she can use. When we're out of light bulbs... well you get the picture. Even though they have most of what we need, it's still a jack of all trades store, aside from food. Unless we're hankerin' for the old days of the Broadway Market QFC and some funky cheese or an interesting drink, this store has everything we need (except for one, see bottom.) When it comes to the rest fo the stuff, it's good for times when we just need something simple or we're in a pinch, but not if we're on a quest. If you're on a quest for a specific drug or pharmaceutical item, a specific type of hardware, a specific toy, and so one, it would be best to go to the product's respective specialty store, other than that, this place works. The one normal food they don't have is strawberry gatorade. Why not? I dunno. Little do they know that I bought enough of the stuff from the city market to darn near signle-handedly give them reason to keep stocking it. read more

Came here for their deposit machine for bottles. The two multi-bottle machines are out of order and look to be premaritally so. The place is swarmed with bees which I guess is understandable because of the beer and soda? There are bottle caps spilling out the machines onto the sidewalk and doesn't look like they ever clean it up. The ONE other machine stopped working and the guy using it pressed the call button. A few minutes later ours jammed (it happens) and my husband finally went inside because no one had come out yet. Finally got it up and running again and finished up. Went inside to get our cash and the lady didn't scan one of our receipts which was for at least 24 bottles. When I pointed it out, she took out ALL the receipts and starting digging through them saying something like "do you remember how many bottles?" Seriously? You JUST scanned them, didn't even finish the transaction yet, and can't find my receipts? Terrible. There was a line behind me so I said forget it. I understand that fuel attendant are supposed to be pumping fuel, but when they can't even take a phone number down to use the Fred Meyers rewards points that Fred Myers provides and when you have to get out of your vehicle to go to the cashier to pay for your fuel cause the fuel attendant can't comprehend what you have told him.. please don't expect me to trust the fuel attendant around my fuel pump to put fuel into my vehicle. Freddies, Freds, FM - this nick names for Fred Meyer are a just a few to name for this place. They just remodeled this location and it's pretty snazzy. Employees are quite helpful and friendly. This is just another chain of the Fred Meyer empire. I think their pharmacy can step it up a notch with newer machinery to help process their orders. But other than that I think this is a wonderful place to do some one-stop shopping. I was able to find items here that I couldn't find in regular grocery stores. Would I come back? I like this Fred Meyer quite a lot, even though I only come here for grab-and-go items and snacks for work, since it is far from my house but close to my office. It's newly remodeled, large and spacious and bright, and it looks a lot like every other Fred Meyer. The selection is good. The deli selection is superb - I was able, on a Saturday morning (yes, I had to work on a Saturday), to get a hot breakfast from the deli - they bring out a little area with that. I think it was about 7 or 7:30 as I came in and they were just setting it out. I don't know if it varies, as I don't do that often, but they had eggs and sausage and hash browns and a breakfast scramble that day. Not bad! I love that they will make a sandwich to order, but also have a bunch of pre-made sandwiches, as I seldom have time to stand around while the two or three people ahead of me order theirs. I do wish they had pre-made salads in addition to the salad bar. The salad bar is a really good deal, but again if I'm dashing in and out - I just bypass it because of the extra time. Still, they have a lot of options, which is a wonderful thing. The people are always friendly, helpful, and cheerful - without being TOO cheerful for whoever they're interacting with. I've watched an employee be bouncy-cheerful to someone much wider awake than I was, and then be low-key cheerful with me because I was obviously still dragging and only half-awake. I really appreciate that sort of thing...though not consciously until later in the day when I wake up and realize what they were doing. And the self-checkout has never been closed when I've gone in, unlike another area store that never has it open in the 7-8 weekday hour. read more

I'm updating not to change my review, but to point something that Kroger/FM may have no control over: the pharmacy. It feels like the scene in Beetlejuice where you're just sitting in the waiting room waiting for your number to be called. I have never been to the pharmacy without at least a 5-10 minute wait time. 10 minutes is a long time to just stand in a line of one person. One time, I approached the counter and a clerk scolded me, "We'll call you when we're ready for you." There's no one in front of me, no one checking out, there are four people behind the counter, and it's been TEN MINUTES. read more
