Considering this is my first time in a Fred Meyer's store, I was really impressed. This is a Super Fred Meyer store. It's huge and goes on and on. The pharmacy at the Barbur Rd store (I'm assuming the rest are the same) are all about volume, not actual healthcare. Recently have had multiple prescriptions stalled due to conflicting info from whoever answers the phone (after many, many minutes). As someone who unfortunately has a very complicated medical history, generic phone messages that don't identify which RX and what the problem is make the issue worse. We're bailing on them and moving to CVS. read more

I love how much this Fred Meyer has to offer and how large the parking lot is. The lines can be really long and they never seem to have enough check stands open. Their selection of products are vast. They're always out of bulk nutritional yeast though, which is a bummer, and it makes me sad how much certain things need to be in locked cases because of theft in the area. Generally a good place to find what you are looking for. Not always the lowest prices but then what do you expect as Fred Meyers specializes in convenience and not reduced costs by selling bulk. More or less if you don't find the specific item you were looking for they have a suitable substitute. Customer service at Fred Meyers varies by both location and time of day as well as a number of other factors and in some cases the service is either extraordinary or completely nonexistent. read more

I do a bulk of my shopping here. Therefore, for being a major supplier of my life, I have to give it 3 stars. Also I am lazy and want to save time on shopping, so having it all in one place adds another star. It is large enough to have a little bit of everything, but not a lot of any particular one thing. For example, they have organic fancy teas, but maybe not the organic fancy tea you were really looking for. And they have hammer and tool sets, but something tells me they aren't the same high end brands a real tool aficionado would buy. (Yet, I bought the whole tool kit at the 50 percent off sale for $15 and dude...it works for me!) All the basics, neither cheap- nor over the top expensive. read more

As a bicyclist, found it tricky biking crossing NE Broadway, but there are 3 rows of bike racks outside of this Fred Meyers, cool. I like this Fred Meyer because it is a little bigger than some of the others (read: they have EVERYTHING, all departments and not a super limited selection). It's also close to the hubs' workplace so we can swing by at a moments notice on the way home. Plenty of parking as well. This place was remodeled a while ago and has lots of grab and go options for foods (salad bar, olive bar, sushi, and hot items). They also have a pretty nice selection of wines and even a station for filling growlers. Pretty decent cheese counter too (the gals from Wisconsin notice these things, what can I say?). They also tend to have printed out coupons from their flyer available by the discounted items, so if you forget your coupon, they have your back. read more

Echoing other people's reviews, this is based solely on my experience with the pharmacy. As a side note, I utilize and mostly enjoy the shopping in the store as a whole. Yeah its busy, but the store is organized and the pick up option is a bonus. Now for the pharmacy. Maybe I caught them in an off day? For what was a rather common prescription for an ointment (I won't get into the details), I expected a rather quick transaction. I was greeted by a man who can only be best described as Robin Williams in One Hour Photo. He quickly asked me the basics, name, dob, and couldn't seem to find me in the system. I explained my doctor had forwarded my prescription a few hours earlier and that while it was my first time using this particular pharmacy, I've visited other Fred Meyer Pharmacies in the past. He asked me to write my name and date of birth on a piece of paper and mentioned he was handing it to a colleague to research and it would be "at least 30 minutes." I work in customer service too so I get it. It is a first time prescription and a little last minute so I didn't make a fuss. Luckily this Fred Meyer has a growler fill station, or I wouldn't have known what to do with my time. 30 minutes later and now near closing I am greeted by another employee. While nice and professional, he informs me my prescription is out of stock, and would take two days to refill. Now this isn't urgent stuff (my rash will be just fine), but it did seem like a waste of a good 45 minutes of my life in line and window shopping. How was this not explained at the beginning? And more importantly, what is Robin Williams doing with my medical history? read more

I like the store it a sister store to Kroger they have great sale sometime my one problem is they allow dogs in the store service animals are okay but doing this Pandemic time maybe they should suspended non service animals from coming in the store. read more

For those that right the bad reviews, you also have to look at the good reviews. The store has changed and updated in the last year or so and is great. I am a current employee there but still shop every week or so for things I need. I never had problems with the products, workers and or customer service. They do a good job and make sure they help you find whatever you need to the best of their abilities. The cons are that many homless and drug addicts tend to hang around outside but arte usually chill and lowkey during the day and havn't been known for harrassing customers. Parking is usually pretty decent eccept for the holidays. KEEP IN MIND- This is the biggest Fred Meyer's in the state so it attracks quite the crowd with it's broad selection. read more

Linda is the ONLY person who knows what she's doing but unfortunately she can't do everything, leaving her brainless coworkers just sort of floating over here and then floating over there. Short haired older woman literally asked me THREE times what my name was even though she had already written it down twice, with that piece of paper still in front of her. Holy %#*%!!! How can you proficiently assist people with their medical needs? *NEWSFLASH* she can't. Thanks for stringing me along for an hour though, only to tell me that it would be another 25 minutes and that you "didn't really know" how long it would actually take to get my inhaler. Ha. Thanks for going above and beyond to expedite the process of affixing a label to the box and handing it to me. I need my albuterol inhaler before I leave town today. Was able to call the Kroger pharmacy where I'm going and received far more proactive service there. read more

This Freddy's is so mich bigger than the one I usually go to on NW 20th. I may have to forgo going to Target because it has everything that we need plus it is so close to where we live. It is easy to get lost or spend a ton of money here. They carry Pap Haydn desserts (yummy) and Moonstruck chocolates. I like that they keep it local. read more

This is NOT the Freddy's I grew up with. it is a crummy, too-large Kroeger store with the world's worst customer service. I lost my keys, which had a Fred Meyer Rewards tag on them, and a good samaritan turned them into Fred Meyer. And there they vanished! I just spent the last 40 minutes on the phone with customer service; nobody was able to tell me where my keys were. These keys have a car fob on them that costs $360 to buy again. I was told that they may be in Louisville, KY, because that is where Kroeger is headquartered. However, I was also told that they may be in the lost and found at Fred Meyer headquarters on Powell Blvd, but nobody in customer service is able to tell me whether they are there. I was just on hold for 30 minutes, to no avail. Aside from that dismal customer service experience, the actual shopping at Fred Meyer sucks because they expanded into the next-door, former Hollywood Video space. THE STORE IS TOO BIG. I'm wandering all over the place looking for a few things. They used to have a natural foods section, which was great because it meant I didn't have to wander the football-field-sized store looking for organic yogurt; they've done away with that and now the organic products are all over the store. I look back with fond nostalgia on the old, pre-Kroeger Freddy's; this is a paltry substitute. Oh and PS, Freddy's: give me back my keys! read more

Tried to buy something from the meat department, the guy behind the counter had his hair up in a bun.. had one headphone in his ear and was just standing there and said nothing to me when I walked up. I asked for two chicken kabobs, and he said "you're going to have to speak up" so I said again louder "can I have two chicken kabobs" again, he said "you need to speak up" with a huge attitude... maybe you'd be able to hear me if you weren't listening to music on your headphones... so a final time I said extremely loud "Can I get two chicken kabobs please?" To which he replied "there you go, finally" and rolled his eyes and had a giant attitude .... I then told him never mind I don't need them and walked away. I get these people aren't getting paid much, but there's literally no reason to be that rude to people who are just trying to grocery shop. I wish I would have gotten his name. Have literally been standing in line at the pharmacy for over ten minutes with only one person in front of me. They have at least six to eight people working behind the counter, none of which know how to move with any sense of urgency, it's as if they get paid more if they take longer. We called in a prescription over a week and half ago and they claim the doctor never called them back but I was physically at the doctor's office when it was sent to them, so who's lying?!? read more

Holy shit! Where are the canned tomatoes? Three employees give conflicting answers and they are ALL WRONG. They now seem to be a hispanic food (not a canned vegetable) and a sympathetic customer helped me find them. Next I am going from one check stand to the next. Where is tonic water? Uhhh.. next stand "what is that?" next stand "the water is on..." finally its on the way to cheese" I ask for an isle number, "uhh no, it's on the way to cheese" OK. SIGNAGE!! Employee TRAINING!! This Fred Meyer is very conveniently located and generally always has what I set out to buy. It's interesting that they display how many organic produce choices they have everyday on a sign in the department. I guess they're really trying to show that they sell organic produce too and can compete with New Seasons across the street. They also have a good selection of organic options in their natural foods section. I actually dislike the concept of having all these 'natural' items together and all the 'other' food spread throughout the store. It would be much easier to compare products if all the tea or the milk or the chocolate was in one spot. I hate having to look for something in the 'natural' section, see that it's not there, and then walk all the way over to somewhere else to see what other options I have. I'm sure Fred Meyer recognizes it would be much easier to compare if they were next to each other as well, which it why they spread them out, further encouraging anyone who's going to spend three-times-the-price on an organic item to do so, since they're already shopping in that section. But I digress... I don't do much of my grocery shopping here. It's usually the other stuff I'm looking for, like office supplies or gift wrap or fashion earrings for a costume party. Their bottle return area is always dirty and sticky. I actually hate even having to walk by it because it literally stinks. It would be nice if they could devote some effort to making that area cleaner. They have a pretty serious natural health care and whole foods sections. Its great for the granola eating, rice milk drinking vegan on a budget. Some things can be pricey in that section, but they often offer a generic brand or sale prices which is great. Other than that, Its your average freddies. I don't know where else you can get a Starbucks americano, a pound of beef, undies, paint and a basketball in one stop. read more

Sure you can still get a lot of things here, but they've restricted their product lines in the last couple years. There used to be a payoff for the hugeness: although it takes forever to go in and get a quart of milk, produce and such, you were sure also to get your paint, small hardware bits like screws and hangers, as well as lighting, extension cords, power tools automotive. Heck 20 years ago you could get lumber too. Now, it is still huge and takes a long time to get around, but you have no paint dept, hardware has shrunk to almost nothing, almost no power tools, but you can get 30 varieties of storage tubs. That and the fact they keep rearranging the place makes it really hard to find what you need, so I go to dedicated HW stores more often now. read more

This place is massive. I must say - it blew my mind. It rambled on to some unknown end and then followed a wall to some other point. It dwarfs a Costco - if the ones in Hawaii are any measurement - and I doubt it is. I did find assistance quickly. There was a person who pointed me to where the irons and ironing boards are. Each subsection is labeled and pulls the eye to that point. Then the aisle goes to the food section. It may be a deliberate move to have people go to a bordering section. Each thing that I sought had a label and a person ready to help me. Even the cashier was very helpful. She double bagged my items knowing that I had my helmet with me for the long bike ride. If it is this active at 10:00 PM then I will gladly come in the earlier daylight hours. read more

It's unacceptable for the store to take overflow reservations with lines going into the street for folks waiting their turn with 2 employees loading cars. The pharmacy is horrible since they moved locations within the store. No one ever answers the phone, they just pick it up, place you immediately on hold, then never actually pick up. Lines get very long because there is typically only one, maybe two people working. No notifications when an rx is ready, so you're basically forced to stand in a line for 20 minutes only to most of the time find out it's not ready, or wrong. Switching pharmacies ASAP in hopes of finding somewhere better. read more

I understand this store is under yet another remodel but I have been to other Freddies that were under remodel and they weren't as dirty as this store. The aisles were half empty and I couldn't find what I was looking for. When I tried to ask for help, the people working there were either on their cell phone, didn't work in that department or too busy having personal conversations with other staff. Wandered on here after some idle internet foray. Today I want to talk about the Seafood Department. It's that always irresistible urge to buy a two or three pound wild Pacific salmon for $3.99/lb. flawlessly and waste-lessly filleted to perfection by the friendly folks behind the display counter! I have filleted fish. It was not easy, and I was not good at it. But these employees: They serve with a smile. They're helpful, friendly, and patient. AND they usually assure me that my order will be ready in fewer than five or ten minutes. Except for the occasional cod as well as the whole salmon, I rarely purchase anything else from the department. I buy what I buy with at least an idea about supporting the selling of only the more "sustainable" piscine species. Wish I could say that this Freddy's was better than so-so in this category. I give them four stars partly because their Seafood Department sells wild salmon for $3.99/lb. Such a deal! But it's mostly because the people who work behind the counter with the customers who merit the real kudos! read more

This store is vast and daunting but asking location questions to plentiful and hard working associates has been pleasant! I am usually a big fan of Fred Meyer, but what I saw tonight was almost enough to turn me into a Safeway shopper! The tomato display stand was horribly depressed and in an unsanitary state. I went to pick one up and my fingers just sank right into the fruit. Then I noticed the smell of the fruit rotting. The heirloom tomatoes were literally rotting away right there on the big display at the front of the produce section. After that I looked closer and realized the area was swarming with fruit flies. As they flew they were to small to get a photo of, but I made a short video of a group that had landed to eat. I posted it on Instagram at PDX_love. I really am surprised at the lack of attention given to your fruits and vegetables - it was a disturbing thing to see; seeing as I give my business to Fred Meyer, and like so many others trust you to provide us with safe healthy food. read more
