Do not even try to order anything on line from here. The system is so terrible. They send a shopper to get your things who can link your order with other orders, if they don't have your items, which show their availability online, the shopper will text you over and over to cancel your order to get a refund. No silly! you can't do that online! You have to sit on the phone with an automated voice for ten minutes then sit on hold for 20 min to cancel your order all the while your shopper is texting you over and over and then you are out on hold again for them to cancel the order. read more

I know for a fact they treat their employees as shit. Elevator or escalator down at any given point, the produce department is disgusting, just look in the wedges and crannies. So I just moved into my new apartment at Grant Park Villiage about a month ago. Fred Myers is right next door. So of course, that is my go-to for my shopping needs. The staff there is always more than willing to help me find my way around and search for items on my list. They don't just point and say, oh, it's over there. They drop whatever it is they are doing, and damn near take me by the hand to make sure I find just what it is I am looking for. I haven't stepped foot in a Wal Mart since I moved in here, and honestly, doubt I will. Job Well Done Fred. Keep up the good work. read more

Massive store. I know this review won't encourage or discourage anyone from shopping here but I wasn't impressed with my two latest experiences. Previously being a wine/beer sales person and former employee with HQ, I dealt with this store a lot. Very high volume for beer, wine, and everything. I love that they have their own cheese counter. I had an item I wanted to return from Xmas and was fine with a credit or just being able to get cash, whatever. I had receipts from my gift giver but they were all the wrong receipt. Doubly annoying, but not Fred's fault. I go to return my clothing item and clerk allows a gift card for the now reduced price of the item. I think it was originally $33, but I ended up with $19.97 gift card. Great. I get to spend it at a store I don't really like. But I did have something in mind. So I bought some underwear- ha! Guess what? I guessed the wrong size, so I then WENT again to Hollywood FM to exchange 1 out of 2 pair. Was prepared with recieipt and everything. I am in line for a few minutes at the Customer Service counter - no sweat, I am in a good mood, this should be quick once I get my turn. There's a lady in front of me being helped and she backed up her E-Z scooter and completely knocked several pegs of cellphone accessories onto the floor. I saw her struggle to recover these items. So I bent down to help and re-hang them up. She thanked me several times and I just said "Hey I usedto work here". Which is true, I just wanted to help her and the store. I then resumed my place in line, the clerk that helped me a minute later barely said hello, didn't thank me for helping clean up the floor and was slightly weird about my underwear swap. He started to grimace and was saying the price was different. He said he'd price match to the original. I was thinking, yeah, whatever I will accept $ back, but I am not paying more for the straight across same item exchange. Not very genuine or friendly service here. read more

Sigh...2 stars...seafood area is hit or miss (gotten bad shrimp from here more than once). Deli takes Forever, and if you want flowers I would avoid the cranky florist at this Freddie's. You can tell they dont like thier job and dont want to be there. My biggest problem though is checking out. I tend to be a later shopper, but by 8-9 pm they only have 1 (yes ONE) check stand open. Checking out can take 20mins. Yes I know they installed self checkout, but I am not interested in doing thier job for them. Also at that time of day the managers at the front obviously do not care you are waiting forever. Shame on them. read more

This pharmacy has some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. The lines are very long, service is slow, things aren't ready when they tell you they will be. After waiting in line for 30 minutes to pick up a prescription ordered the day before, after when it was to be ready, I was told to come back in an hour. I came back 90 minutes later, and it still wasn't ready. They told me I'd have to come back and go through the line again. Totally unreliable. The workers don't make eye contact, do not ever smile, alway act like customers are an inconvenience. read more

This is a review of the Weidler Street grocery and pharmacy.They just finished a complete remodel of the store and now it's a complete mess. They took away the "12 items or less" registers and put in more u-scans and expect you to do their work. When I complained, the gal said, "oh, but we have all these baggers now, so we actually created more jobs." I was there today and long lines at the registers with only six cashiers and NO baggers. Where's all these new people you hired? I gave the pharmacy a prescription to fill and was told it would take 30-45 minutes to complete. I had groceries to buy and went back to pick up my prescription and had to stand in a long line. When It was my turn, the gal said it hadn't been filled yet. By this time it had been an hour and 20 minutes from the drop off. I was told to take a seat while they finally rushed to fill it. Never again. I'm done with Kroger. Or do they still want you to call them folksy Freddy's? read more

Was waiting outside the dressing room about an hour ago while an employee wearing the nametag Marcie made several negative comments about customers in the apparel section of the store. I tried to ignore her comments at first but it got to be too much with her last comments and I finally said something and asked her to keep her horrible thoughts to herself. I would normally have good things to say about my experiences at Fred Meyer but this particular employee is really damaging to that positive image. 1. She pointed out a woman wearing a back pack and called her "a lazy thief, I guarantee she's stealing something" 2. Told a customer to enter the dressing room with caution because she saw the "ugliest man's birthday suit because the idiot failed to fully shut the dressing rooming door" And finally, 3. Made racist comments about a young black man trying on slacks in the fitting room. When he walked past with the pants, she sternly commented "young man, if you're not going to buy those you need to leave them right here, you can't just take things" implying that if he continued to hold onto them while in the store, he might steal them. Then as he was out of ear shot, speaking to the older man that I assume was his father about how they fit, she muttered about the perfectly fine pants "disgusting, I don't even want to touch these!" Completely unacceptable and abhorrent behavior. To cap off the whole ordeal, we got home to realize the cashier failed to remove the security tag off the purchased clothing requiring us to go back. read more

This FM is frickin' huge. That's pretty much what it's got going for it. It's giant, so it has every department you could expect from a Freddy's. I've only shopped here a few times (the location is out of the way for me) but each time I've been able to find what I was looking for. It turns out that while I'm OK with the weirdness that is a Fred Meyer when they're multi-story, my support completely disappears when I'm faced with a single-level version. The quirk becomes chaos and I get cranky. Compared to my other Freddy's experiences, this location seems less focused on food and more on being an "everything you could possibly want" emporium, and it suffers from diminishing returns. The food selection seems less complete, and there's just a sense of disorganization. Plus, the lines at the check-out are almost always crazy long. I don't need to buy my diamonds where I buy my almond milk. I also don't need to come to this store, when saner locations are just a few extra minutes away. read more

With Nazi Aggression threatening the French, a line of defense was built in the misplaced hope of avoiding Third Reich dominance. The Maginot Line (French: Ligne Maginot), was a system of tanks, artillary and other deterrants that was impressive in theory, but proved flacid against hitler's onslaught. (I don't capitalize that name because he was a jerk). Instead of this approach, the French could have adopted Fred Meyer's way of keeping me out: simply have 2 rows of girl scouts begging at me while i leave the store. Why 2 rows, you astutely ask? Hmmmm...it seems the front row was the buffer, to slow you down, perhaps demand that you give up your silly attempt at gaze avoidance. The second row, assuming the failure of the first, was to have them seated at a table, taking up valuable side-stepping space. Don't get me wrong, i loves me some Fred Meyer. It's the only place where one can get a cumquat and paint thinner while at the same time perusing Guitar Hero-themed undergarments. And i don't blame the Girl Scouts. They need money (those sashes aren't going to dry clean themselves). And their cookies are fine, even though their palm oil is apparantly killing off chimpanzees (another bummer, thanks NPR). I guess it is just one Fred Meyer shopping item I don't need on my list today. UPDATE: Yesterday someone at Yelp deleted my Fred Meyer review that discussed (along with photographic proof) that people were canvassing the parking lot trying to break into cars. Apparently this wasn't considered part of my "shopping experience". I have had multiple conversations with employees at this store that have told me they are not allowed to stop shoplifters and thieves in the store or parking lot. I suppose if I would have gushed over their produce it would have been a more relevant review? This review is for the PHARMACY only. I'm ok with the grocery part, at least they have cheap-ish prices. Their pharmacy is the pits. My recent experience was that my doctor put in a prescription and they needed more information. I called my doctor's office, they called Fred Meyer right away, they have a record of the call and who they spoke with. I go back the next day to pick up my medication and the pharmacy tech is like, oh, we didn't get a call from your doctor. He couldn't even find me in their system for a while, then he couldn't find my insurance, even though I've been going here for quite some time. I called my doctor's office that evening and they called Fred's again, they, once again, have a record of the call and the person they spoke with. I then got busy and couldn't go by for a couple of days. They finally had my medication, but this is inexcusable. The worst customer service and so completely unprofessional. I will NEVER go to this pharmacy again. I'm going back to my former pharmacy, I only left them because I had a work schedule that made it difficult to go to them, but now I work early shift. Soon after moving to the Portland area, I noticed all the signs. They're everywhere. "Who the hell is Fred Meyer?" I asked GF. "And why does he have his name all up in ginormous red letters everywhere we go?" "You've never been to a Fred Meyer?" she replied incredulously. She grabbed the steering wheel and sent us two-wheeling into the parking lot of the closest Fred Meyer. It wasn't that hard to do--it seems there's one every few blocks or so. Hmmmm. Interesting. In SoCal, they keep the supermarkets and department stores in their own separate realms. I remember they wanted to build a mega Walmart near my old burg, but the peasants descended with pitchforks and put the kibosh on that deal. I like Fred Meyer. I like being able to go buy groceries and then say, "Hey, I also need a new garden hose...and a new wallet...and some new chonies...and I can get it all HERE!" Oh Freddy's. I only discovered you when I moved here since you're about four blocks from my house, and I was like, "Who the hell is Fred Meyer?" Now I have come to sort of unwillingly love you, like that great-uncle who doesn't have anything really nice to say but since you're related and he gives you money every Christmas, everything is cool. This Freddy's is massive. It has a ton of stuff. Luckily, I have been here probably hundreds of times now, mostly on beer runs. So I know where a lot of things are by heart. However, here's a list of things I still have yet to find in the store: bathtub cleaner, hair catch, bathplug, bathtub brush, and a mojito making set (there are seriously specific tools for making mojitos). Okay, so a lot of it is bath-care items. So I like to bathe! So what, Portland! A girl needs her luxury time. HOOOK A GIRL UP FREDDY. A couple of things I just discovered recently about this Freddy's that I do like: 1) They now sell baby bok choy! For $.89/lbs! A steal! Really! Considering it's like $2/lbs at Uwajimaya and $2 a BUNCH at the Farmer's Market, I do not give a jizz about organic, local, blah blah blah. I just want me some tasty cheap bok choy! 2) Don't know if this has been forever or if I've just never really checked out the cheese section, but they sell smaller pieces of their "good" (as in, not Kraft) cheeses that range from $1-$3. So you can try 'em all out without making a huge commitment to a huge piece of cheese you may never ever finish. I mean, it's no Whole Foods, but when you need some standard pecorino romano, Freddy's is there for ya. 3) Catholics, rejoice. They sell Mary, Jesus, and the Saints votive candles here. She spent so much time pointing out different types of cheeses I might like, and let me sample all of them, more than once. Good god, I had so much awesome cheese. I love Fred Meyer. Well, let me backtrack. I love grocery stores. Love 'em. Got 10 minutes to spare? I'll pop in a grocery store and just wander the aisles. I especially love places like Fred Meyer and Whole Foods; places with clothes and makeups and baking goods and produce and SO MUCH STUFF TO LOOK AT EVERYWHERE. One stop shopping? Yes, please! If I have to pick a favorite Freddy's (and you know I do), it's the Hawthorne location. It's so big and well laid out and has a great 'Natural Foods' selection and even has escalators. Now that's fancy. And now, with the current remodel, this Fred Meyer on Weidler is coming into its own. It's the closest grocery store to my house (if you don't count Lameway, which naturally I don't) and it is getting radder by the day. I'm loving the remodel, and loving their natural foods selection, and their produce aisle is looking up, and my oh my have you SEEN their wine selection? Gold Stars all around, Freddy's. read more

This Fred Meyer is HUUUUUUUUGEEEEEE compared to the Burlingame's Fred Meyer by my apartment. They have everything at this Freddy's from groceries, apparels, cute guys undies, Nerf toys, and Garden Center. This year is my first year for me to start a mini garden at my backyard. Fred Meyer has everything that I needed from soil, seeds, start up plants, and cute pots. It's literally one stop shopping at this Fred Meyer. The most convenient Travelers Clinic in Portland operates out of the Pharmacy at the Hollywood Fred Meyer on Weidler. I needed Hepatitis A and Typhoid immunizations for an upcoming trip to Peru. I was unwilling to take time off work to go to one of the weekday business hours by-appointment clinics, and it took quite a few calls and inquiries to find that Freddy's - this one location only in the Portland area - offers immunizations on a varied schedule including occasional evenings. I got mine at 5:30 pm on a Friday, but was told that they offer immunizations as late as 8 pm on a few nights. This is a one-man operation, by Pharmacist Sean Toyooka, an engaging young man who appears well-versed in immunization options. He works a varied schedule, so call ahead, work your way through the automated response phone tree to get to the pharmacy. The immunizations I needed were no problem, they had them in stock, but it sounded like some more exotic ones might require ordering ahead of time. There are forms to fill out, no doctor's prescription needed, bring your yellow immunization card, or, they'll start a new one for you. The only reason I rate this 4 stars instead of 5 is that Freddy's website sure didn't steer me here, the page just said that some Fred Meyer Pharmacies offer traveler's immunizations, didn't say which ones. And the first Freddy's I called, the Johnson Creek one, had no idea, transferred me three times and eventually disconnected me. A call to the Interstate store steered me here. Highly recommended as an efficient location to get your travelers immunizations at a time convenient for working people. I had a fine experience here, and so did my husband, six days later; his was at 10 am on a Thursday. read more

About a year ago I purchased a .5ct Sitara Diamond Engagement Ring from Fred Meyer Jewelers. Recently I tried to sell it and was informed by the jeweler that the diamond may be "glass-filled" or "enhanced". I took a look through their microscope and low and behold there was a blemish. I contacted the store and they guaranteed that it was not possible. Because I was living out of state, their regional guy at the Beaverton store had me mail them the ring. He had the ring appraised and verified that it was not enhanced; that it just had a huge blemish on it which made it appear to be enhanced. It did not affect the original rating. I brought it to several local jewelers and they all informed me that the "appraisal" Fred Meyer gave me was not official, not even close, it was some fancy in-house generated document. None of the jewelers I brought it too will even make me a low-ball offer and I don't feel right trying to make a private sale because of the blemish. The Fred Meyer staff were helpful and accommodated me to the best of their ability. And I thank them for that. But I feel that I was sold an inferior product and my lack of knowledge was taken advantage of. The reason I am reviewing their business is because I want to warn people. I did extensive research before making my purchase, but obviously it was not enough. Had I viewed the diamond under a microscope and seen the blemish I would definitely not have purchased it. Technically I was not wronged, but it sure feels that way. Please ask to view any and all jewelry purchases under a microscope and be sure to seek outside consulting. read more

If you've never been to a Fred Meyer, be sure to make the trip! This is what I imagine Walmart would be like if it started as a grocery store and branched out into the clothing/home-goods/electronic business second, instead of the other way around. The big exception- Fred Meyer doesn't have the history of paying employees sub-minimum wage or wage inequality amongst genders or the myriad of lawsuits. Reasonably priced (think Target prices for goods and somewhere between Target and Safeway prices for groceries). Very clean floor room, semi clean bathroom, and okay customer service. Includes a pharmacy and offers online shopping with 6 available parking spaces for you to pick up your order (they bring it out to you) read more

OMGosh--how I've missed you FM!!! After I left P-Town, I was aghast that other states didn't have something comparable. While Walmart is supposed to be a 1-stop shopping store, it's definitely not the same as Freddie's in terms of quality & cleanliness. You can buy camping gear, makeup & dinner roles all in one trip. I like this location & visited several times this trip b/c it's one of the larger stores. They even have a Starbucks inside AND outside. (Talk about cannibalizing business). read more

This store was just remodeled. The company went all out and really changed it - it's different from every other Fred Meyer I've seen. At this point, they took over the Hollywood Video (RIP) space and a loading dock. As a result, apparel was reconstructed and electronics was enlarged to take over where shoes used to be. The jeweler and pharmacy departments also relocated. Take your time, but eventually you'll find what you want. My one "beef" is that the company decided to change the grocery aisle layout. Now, instead of being like almost every other Fred Meyer store- where entering from the 'food' entrance means walking into produce, then natural choices with aisles that run perpendicular to the main store near the bakery, it's now instead plants and flowers, then produce (but kind of walled in on the corner), then wine and cheese hiding behind that. The next aisles over in the rear of the store are beer, natural choices (now with aisles that run parallel to the remainder of food) and the pharmacy area. Positive additions: More garden center space, even more seating by the deli counter and Peet's Coffee, the area behind that made to feel a little bit like a living room with large windows and a TV set. However, I could see the newly added restrooms becoming a problem as they are out of sight of employees and most shoppers. read more

This location will always get a 4 star in my book because they sold me a Wii today! I also like that it is hidden from the rest of the world, and everyone misses the turn into it off of 28th. The truth is that it is just an average Fred Meyer. Nothing great or bad about it. It helped save my life a few months ago when the power went out, because I bought about $40 worth of emergency candles, flashlights, and junk that I have yet to use. It's annoying when you buy essentials for a power outage and the power comes back on before you get home. In summation, they sold me a Wii, so they're cool. They have candles, both emergency and scented. And their can return people might be from West Virginia. read more

They have recently re-done this Hollywood (NE PDX) location. It is modern and polished in the interior. It is very popular and there isn't much you would want to buy that they would not have. It's nice and clean - it's very busy. I go there often. They are owned by the super grocery store conglomerate Kroger Inc. (which I am not a fan of). It has every feature that modern grocery stores have today. Including a very large and douche wine section (do we really need 700+ varieties of wine at a grocery store?). It can feel a bit too large at times - if you want to do a quick in and out at this location this is not the store for you. You can't really expect any level of service or product knowledge by any of the employees. The employees seem to have little investment in their jobs (which is usually code for "they get paid little"). I give the store 3/5. There isn't much local and community oriented about it (they need to do more) - it's a major hub for the multiple neighborhoods that it serves. read more

I like the remodel at this location. Customer service seems to be lacking, like at most Fred Meyers. I avoid it during rush hour times because the aisles are still too snug, even after the remodel. Two years ago I parked my bike here. It was locked and I went inside to open a bank account at chase. I was inside for an hour. I came back out and someone had stolen my bike seat and lights. I brought this up to an employee at the customer service desk and she didn't appear to care. Recently, I noticed another persons bike locked at the bike racks and their seat was also stolen. Not sure if there is organized bike theft going on at this location or not? Beware! read more
