I tried Freddy's a few nights ago and I was honestly pretty disappointed. I ordered the bolognese and there was not a lot of sauce on the pasta. The sauce also had an odd taste. I figured it might be from them adding nutmeg, but it was definitely way too heavy on the nutmeg. My other friend is Italian and her review was the same as mine, just needed some more work. My friends got the Caesar salad and it looked really good, we also loved the charcuterie. On of my friends got the French onion soup and it came out super cold. The service was also okay. They had party of 30 that night so I could definitely tell that everyone working was overwhelmed. I do feel like if you're going to take a large party you should either have a good plan in place or close the rest of the restaurant so guests aren't disappointed. Overall, it was okay, I just probably wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

Freddy's is a cute restaurant with delicious unique options on their menu. We had a wonderful time here. The food was delicious and I highly recommend the baked pimento cheese. This is a great place to go for a fun night out.

Stopped by for a quick bite and a glass of wine. The vibe was okay--nothing special, but fine for a casual night out. Service was also just okay, not particularly attentive but not bad either. I tried the marinated peach caprese salad, which sounded amazing on the menu, but was a bit disappointing. Instead of true prosciutto, it came with something more like prosciutto bacon bits, which really changed the flavor and feel of the dish. Overall, it's a decent spot if you're nearby, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return.

The food was really good! I had the chicken quesadilla and my boyfriend tried the beef nachos. The lady who helped us was polite and patient since we took time to decide. We went around 7pm on Sunday, not crowded and the atmosphere was cozy. I recommend this spot and will come back next trip!

Freddy's Bistro is located in Homewood (Bham OG's will know this is where Nabeel's used to be) near Homewood Central Park. We arrived early to partake of happy hour offerings, and were one of the few occupied tables. The menu was just okay...there wasn't anything that sounded particularly tasty, but we settled for the Brussels, deviled eggs, and burger with potato salad. We enjoyed one cocktail each, and those were pretty good. The burger was pretty but really dry. The deviled eggs were not deviled at all...they were just two boiled eggs, cut in half, with some aoli type sauce over the top. The potato salad was good, but would have been better with less oil and more vinegar or other type of acid. The Brussels were good but would have been much better with some char and with a lighter sauce (a honey sauce with some heat would be delicious)...the aoli was far too heavy and threw off the balance of the dish. All in all, it's an okay place to eat. Nothing was outstanding. Service was great, though. Very kind staff.

Much left to want from the new location. Everyone's food was very meh. Only positive were the delicious drinks and good service. Probably wouldn't go back. Hope it's just because it's brand new. They couldn't add proteins to meals yet. Friends are spaghetti just noodles sauce and cheese. Ambiance is big time lacking too.

Just...strange. The menu is odd, sandwiches, pasta, couple of salads. The food wasn't bad but the menu was so limited and one note.

The event was advertised online with pre purchased tickets to start at 3. We showed up at 3 and were told that it actually started at 4. No problem, we had a drink inside and enjoyed the vibe. When we tried to cash out, it was a little difficult. There were extra people helping but they ignored me and my friend and walked away after clearing the men at the bar. When the bartender cashed us out, she charged us for the event that we'd purchase tickets for online and that was an ordeal trying to get a credit. As of the morning after, my bank account has a charge and no credit. All in all, I have 4 transactions (all charges) from them when there should be 2. The apps were a nice touch to the event and people seemed to be having fun.

As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by shelves of wines, charcuterie boards, and gourmet accompaniments, making it a fun place to browse before your meal. Unfortunately, my first impression of the service wasn't the strongest. When I approached the host stand, I was greeted with, "What do you want?" While it may have been an off moment or simply a poor choice of words, it didn't feel particularly welcoming. Since I was standing at the host stand in the dining area, I assumed it would be clear that I was there to eat. I was also initially directed toward the bar, despite it being nearly full and located in a busy area where staff were constantly moving through. Since I was dining solo and wanted a more relaxed experience, I asked about patio seating instead, and thankfully that was available. Once seated, my experience improved considerably. My server struck the perfect balance between being attentive and giving me space to enjoy my meal. Since it was my first visit, I had several questions about the menu, and he was knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely happy to offer recommendations. I decided to order one of the daily specials along with a build-your-own charcuterie board and a Kir Royale to drink. The Heirloom Tomato Salad was an excellent choice. It was fresh, vibrant, and had a flavor profile that set it apart from the many tomato salads I've had before. It's the kind of seasonal special I'd happily order again. For my charcuterie board, I selected Soppressata, Prosciutto, and Gin & Juice for the meats, along with Campo de Montalbán and Midnight Moon cheeses. Everything paired beautifully with the accompanying bread, nuts, and garnishes. Each bite felt thoughtfully curated, and it made for a leisurely meal that encouraged slowing down and savoring each combination. The Kir Royale was equally enjoyable--light, bubbly, and refreshing. It complemented the charcuterie perfectly and is an easy recommendation if you're looking for a celebratory cocktail. One of my favorite parts of the visit was the patio. It was the perfect place to enjoy Birmingham's beautiful weather while people-watching and taking in the neighborhood. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, making it easy to linger over the meal. Before leaving, I had one more interaction with the hostess that left me a bit puzzled. Since I was dining alone, I took my belongings with me when I went to the restroom after letting my server know where I was headed and asking him to bring my check. As I walked back, the hostess commented, "I thought you had gone." While she may not have intended anything by it, the remark came across as though she assumed I had left without paying, which made for another awkward interaction. I settled my bill at the front counter without issue, but it reinforced my initial impression of the hospitality at the host stand. Overall, I'd rate Red or White an **8/10**. The food, drinks, patio, and service from my server made for a very enjoyable experience, and I would absolutely return for another charcuterie board and cocktail. The only thing holding this visit back from earning a higher rating was my experience with the hostess. Hospitality begins the moment a guest walks through the door, and small interactions can have a lasting impact. Even so, the quality of the food and atmosphere makes this a spot I'd happily visit again.

We were able to make a reservation for inside dining which I liked because it was a hot June Alabama day, but I would have preferred outside because it was so loud inside, there was no sound suppression, and the tables were very close together. The outside patio was nice and covered. Next time I will request to sit outside. We started with the sourdough bread which I highly recommend! There was enough pieces to have one while you waited for your dinner, and to save one to eat with your dinner. My husband ordered the deviled eggs and really enjoyed them. For our entree, we shared the roasted chicken. It was a half chicken with lemon, garlic, shallots and potato gratin. It was plenty for both of us. We even had leftovers. This is probably because of the appetizers and we had stopped for drinks at Cayo Coco before dinner. We usually skip dessert, but my husband really wanted to try the chocolate custard, bittersweet chocolate custard with chantilly cream. The presentation was beautiful. I had a couple of bites and it also tasted amazing. Our waiter recommended a dessert wine that paired with the custard. He let us try a couple of sips, and the sweet fruitiness really made a difference. The service was amazing. We will definitely be back.
