Who doesn't love a good bowl of pasta? Bettola does it right. I always applaud restaurants that have perfect length menus. I do not need millions of options, this is the correct amount. If you know me, you know that if there's burrata on the menu, I'm ordering it. Bettola's is one of the most unique I've ever had. It's almost soupy, and it's scrumptious. The wine list is good, and they serve good cocktails. My friends all raved about the espresso martini. This is a great place for date night or to dine with friends and family. They have an option for everybody. Service is great, no frills. I find parking to be very easy in this area. Like Hot and Hot, you do have to walk through a different hallway to get to a bathroom, a little strange but fine. I love the option of outdoor seating, but the inside is a fantastic atmosphere, too. I've yet to try any of the pizzas, but will have to come back at some point, of course :). read more

Came here for lunch with a coworker on a Tuesday around 11:15 a.m. and it was already crowded! This is located in the Pepper Place district and it's easy to get to and there's a large parking lot in front, but it was almost full by the time we arrived. Service was kind and very professional, but this is one of those somewhat fancy places where service is more helpful and professional, but not necessarily fast. It's nothing against the server, it's just the atmosphere of the place. Seating is crowded and you almost feel like you're sitting with the other people dining (you know, the strangers you didn't come there with). And the restaurant noise is loud. All of this combined reminded me very much of Bottega on Highland Avenue in Birmingham. I ordered the Bistecca (panini), minus caramelized onions. It was good, I polished it off and enjoyed it. Overall 4 stars because of the loud, crowded interior and the length of time everything took. If you need a quick lunch, you'll need to go somewhere else. read more

The ambiance of this Italian restaurant is on the upscale side. Elegant and stylish, it is located in one of the repurposed Pepper Place buildings. It's a nice vibe for a date night. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. We dined on Tuesday night, and sat outside because the weather was fabulous. Our server was attentive, but service was a little slow. In my opinion he had too many tables assigned to him. Food was good. We started with a charcuterie board that was pleasing to the eyes. Meats and cheese were good as expected, I especially like the pickled vegetables. The meatball special is not printed on the daily menu, but one of this two entree specials on this night (the other was grouper). The meatballs are served with a tomato based over bucatini noodles. The meatballs were outstanding, and the sauce had a little spiciness to it. The meatballs and sauce are served on a bucatini pastas. The pastas are made fresh in house.i would say the bucatini was not my favorite. It was thicker than I prefer and a bit too chewy. Bettola was absolutely amazing. I take a lot into account when reviewing, atmosphere, service, food quality, and price, and this place nailed almost everything. The atmosphere was perfect for dinner: ambient, romantic lighting, and a cozy setup both indoors and out. We sat inside and loved it. We started with the Funghi di Bosco pizza and... holy crap. Hands down the best pizza I've ever had. The crust was that perfect wood-fired crisp, the cheese melted just right, the mushrooms were fresh, the fresh egg was perfect, and the truffle oil? Unreal. I'd come back for that alone. For my entrée, I had the Quattro Formaggi pasta with added sausage great flavor, rich and creamy white base, though the mint was a touch heavy for my taste. Dessert was the Chocolate Budino. Not a showstopper, but still a nice, sweet finish to an incredible meal. Our bill was just under $100 for two, and it was 100% worth every penny. We had concert tickets downtown so we thought we would make a night of it. Reservations for 5pm and we're seated immediately. It was a beautiful evening so we chose the patio. Music was light and atmosphere was inviting. Staff was polite and attentive. We tried, the suggested, Mentone AL tomato salad to start. Served with thick, ripe red and yellow tomatoes along with some dressing and corn. It was light and savory. Had us wanting more. Excellent choice. For dinner we chose the pepperoni and filetto pizzas. They serve a classic Neapolitan style wood fired pizza. Pizza was a good personal size. Crisp crust with nice leopard spotting. Chewy inside with good gluten development. Middle was a little soggy, but typical for Neapolitan style. Toppings were fresh and flavorful. Chocolate Budino was light and fluffy with a hint of salt. As I entered for lunch I noticed the rustic atmosphere once seated a waiter introduced himself very professional and polite giving details of what's on the menu. I love going to Bettola because it is consistently good and the food is very high quality. You can tell that their bread & pasta are made fresh in house (and they use Italian flour)! Their lunch menu is excellent--you literally cannot choose a bad thing to eat on their menu. The paninis are excellent, soup/salads are fresh and tasty, & all the pasta is excellent! This is my second time trying Bettola. I reserved judgement after a bad first experience. Well, the second time is really no better. The food ranges from overly salty to horribly under seasoned in any other way. Of the couple of entrees I've tried, the Italian sausage and vodka sauce pasta had the most potential. However, I requested a spicy version, and instead of using the Calabrian chilis incorporated in other dishes, the pasta was absolute COATED in red pepper flakes (think Pizza Hut shaker) it made the entire dish inedible. The only reason I gave a 3rd star, the phenomenal service. I had the same server, Jenn, on both occasions. Not only did she recognize me, but also remembered my drink order. Amazingly knowledgeable about the different options, especially the wine selection. Jenn is an absolute rockstar. Now, on to the drinks. There is an amazing selection of wine, a few nice beer selections and a pretty decent liquor selection. Food and menu were good, but I've had much better. Prices were fair. Only reason for 3 stars is the bar itself -- the way the bar is built, there is no knee/leg room (and I am 5'2"). Wonderful experience. I was not expecting much, but it did exceed my expectations. The food is good very contemporary Italian not so much traditional. Service from the young lady at the bar was a 20 out of 10. I wish her luck on her interview and if she gets her job, you still have to keep her part-time. I walk pass this place at-least three times a week, I've even been inside to purchase a gift card for someone else! However, my first time dining was on a crowded Wednesday during lunch time. The inside is smaller than I expected but cute and quaint. I met two friends at Betolla and we all ordered the Quattro formaggi which I really enjoyed. I added steak for my protein. One of my friends sent their meal back because the portion was small. My friends stated that the pastas flavor was strong, likely due to the Gorgonzola. I agree about their flavor remark; however, my palate is pretty familiar with Gorgonzola so I was in heaven. I was sad that they didn't have cocktails during the day but maybe that was a sign I didn't need it. Because of the open area, it can be just a bit noisy from time to time. Still, nice place. Service: The service started out great. Then the server rarely checked back with us. My guest would have loved another drink but by the time I got the server back over we were almost done. We had such a good time we really did not care but from a review standpoint, it has to be mentioned. Conclusion: Go to this place. It is excellent. I can only cheat on my diet once a month.
