My friend wanted to take us to some of his favorite neighborhood bars, and Young Ethel's was our first stop. This place is a great little hole in the wall where the locals like to hang. It has a relaxed, casual vibe. The décor is lovely and fun. The bartenders are friendly and greet you with a smile. They have a nice selection of signature cocktails. I ordered a Bee's Knees, and it was very good. There is also a room in the back where you can catch free shows daily by local musical acts and comedians. They even have pinball machines. Young Ethel's has become one of my go to spots in Park Slope. Live music, comedy, and great tasting cocktails. I feel like Ethel's should be more packed than how it is most of the time I'm there. Don't get me wrong, the back isn't huge but I feel it could be more packed, which is a good thing. For how great the cocktails are and for the price which isn't bad for Brooklyn at all, this place has become one of my favorites. Stopped into Young Ethel's for a quick drink on Saturday afternoon. Got a chance to check out the beer bar and live entertainment spot and would definitely return when in full gear. Quality: I may have visited at a weird time, but there was still a lot to like. The small, but varied draft menu, pinball machines, and awesome background tunes, bode well for the live entertainment selected and busier evenings. Quantity: No issues with pours. Value: $5-9 for a Draft Beer. Ambiance: Young Ethel's is located in Park Slope. They have a small outdoor setup, and then plenty of stools around the long bar. Elvira pinball machines sit towards the back of the front room, and a stage for live music and improv can be found in the far room. Divey and cool style, with great music playing. This place is a like a hole in a hole-in-the-wall. Divey as hell, as down-to-earth as you can get without literally operating out of someone's basement. Drink menu is folded red printer paper and food is mostly frozen pizzas and a taco truck down the street. It's the kind of bar you want to be a regular, but not really the place you'd take someone from out-of-town. Because of the name, I really didn't expect much of this place. I was very pleasantly surprised to find it was a very clean, reasonably priced and decent sized place. Young Ethel's is exactly what a neighborhood "dive" should be: a fun and light atmosphere to drink, with the added bonus of a stage for showcasing local music and comedy. I'd been to this spot in its previous incarnations and had some underwhelming experiences (to say nothing of certain former owners' obnoxious reputations). Ethel's qualifies as a huge improvement over its predecessors on drink quality and service alone. But they also do a great job of welcoming local talent and being a positive cultural presence. I happened upon this bar because it's in front of my bus stop to go home from work, and sometimes the bus takes awhile. I'm so glad I went in that first time. I've since told everyone about it. Fun, laid back, funky and chic. This eclectic bar is understated in spite of its whimsical chandelier in front, velvety couches in back and a sense of fairy dust sprinkled throughout. The warm, welcoming bar has well-spaced stools (and outlets!), the back room is a comfortable size (large but not swallow-you large) and offers pinball, board games, cushy seating, a stage and a projector screen. This joint recently opened and it's already one of my faves in the neighborhood. They have a menu of craft beers with enough variety to satisfy your pickiest friend and good selection of wines, too.
