I had a couple great tacos this past weekend at Freddy's taco shack. I actually accidentally entered this line on the feeder. I had recently right and ended up in line the other morning. I was about to exit the line until I realized if others were bothering to wait for tacos maybe I should too! I got the chorizo egg and the Mexican egg, both fully loaded. I fully enjoyed them both but the chorizo egg was my favorite. They have two salsa offerings - green and red. Ok. So I'm going to start by saying the place is efficient and decently friendly and the food is not bad. My issue is the contents. I do not like the fact that they use bacon bits as bacon. It doesn't even taste like real bacon. I really really want the owner to reach out to me so that I know they actually read these reviews. And I dying mind for paying more for extra toppings, onions should not have a charge. I felt cheated on toppings and I could've gotten cheaper tacos with real toppings. Love Freddy's! Been coming here for a year. They have some of the best barbacoa tacos that I have found in Porter. They are decently priced and when there isn't a line they are pretty quick, however if there is a line be prepared to wait. The restaurant is small but that's ok, there are a few tables to sit at inside. I recommend the breakfast tacos, pretty much any of them are really good. Oh and the spicy green salsa is on point!! Ever since this place opened the drive-thru line at breakfast extends into the right lane of the 59 feeder. I always drive by and wish I had time to try it. This morning I was working from home and Diana was sleeping in. I ran an errand and skipped the drive-thru line and went in. Their usual egg tacos are scrambled with diced onion, tomato & jalapeño. I'm not a morning salsa guy so they made ours without the diced veggies. Egg. Bacon and cheese. We got them home and they were great. Smaller homemade flour tortillas absolutely stuffed with filling. We thought the tortillas were greasier than we'd prefer. I may need to try again and only skip the jalapeño. I'm a West Texas guy and breakfast burrito drive throughs are everywhere. Somehow this upgrade to breakfast tacos hasn't made it to Houston. I prefer the burrito iteration. Easier to eat, less greasy and room for more variety. read more

In the Kingwood/Porter area there exists the holy trinity of tacos. That's Freddy's Taco Shack, Kingwood Taco Shop, and Kingwood Meat Market. Each is its own manifestation of the goodness that is the breakfast taco. Completely different styles but all incredibly delicious. My favorite varies from time to time, but invariably Freddy's is where I end up most Saturday mornings almost every week for over 5 years now. The ambiance when you walk in envelops your senses and lets you know you've come to the right place for authentic home made tacos. It's small and crowded, a true "hole in the wall" type atmosphere that you want when looking for authenticity. The staff typically headed by Freddy himself is welcoming, efficient and generous. The tacos are always bursting at the seams with deliciousness. The Grant's, Nacho's, and Jason's tacos are among the best. But, don't sleep on the quesadillas. AH-MAY-ZING!
